Once? Happenstance. Twice? Coincidence. Thrice? Enemy Action.

Marla Singer's picture

A lone suicide bomber, on foot managing to catch unawares five "senior commanders" in Iraq where only the smartest and best organized insurgents are still alive to mount such action might be a three or four sigma event. A lone suicide bomber, on foot managing to catch unawares five "senior commanders" of Iran's Revolutionary Guard by waiting by the entrance of the complex where they were to meet local tribal leaders... that's a bit rarer still. Whisperings of western involvement in the incident are... still just whisperings.

One wonders, however, what strength Tehran will now have to divert to Sistan-Baluchestan near the Pakistan and Afghanistan to beef up security, where those forces will come from and what confusion the loss of senior commanders in the area will cause. All in all, rather an effective bit of work if you are in the force disruption business. Crude longs: take note.

Meanwhile, Iran's Majlis (Parliament) Speaker Ali Larijani attributed the terrorist attack to American hostile efforts against Iran.

"The terrorist attack is the result of the U.S. efforts and a sign of U.S. hostility towards Iran," Larijani told reporters before departure for Geneva for the General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

and then a different opinion,

"There is no evidence of outside help for Jundallah from wider militant networks," said Mustafa Alani, director of security and terrorism studies at the Gulf Research Center in Dubai. "It's a homegrown group that moves across the borders within fellow Baluchi tribes. It is very hard to control the border."

And one more from the NYT:

A terrorist group calling itself Jundallah — or Soldiers of God — took responsibility for the attacks, according to the state-owned Press TV. The group is made up of ethic Baluchis, who can also be found in Pakistan and Afghanistan, and has taken credit for other attacks in the region in recent years.

The Jundallah has ties across the border into Pakistan, and Iranian officials say it has been encouraged, financed and armed by the United States.

Someone will have to get the blame here. either they start saber rattling at the US or they increase security at the border.

This is a real moral quandary.  Do I hate the militants for their use of suicide bombing, or thank them for attacking the Revolutionary Guards?

I don't know.  In either event, I think suspicion of US involvement is inappropriate at this point, and I am thankful that at least some of the militants are fighting the Iranians instead of the US.

Zerohedge has continually reported (SUPPORTED!?) its views that Iran is about to become the next target for a US attack. A lot of posts have purported that oil prices will increase and people (ZEROHEDGE!?) will be making money. A lot of content on here is very good, this I am afraid is neo capitalism, a lot of your 'fight' seems to be against the neo capitalists, why not this?

Find the word "American" or "U.S." in there. Take your time. I'll wait.

2. We haven't made a call on crude.

No, but you keep up on the Iran agenda.

Anyone watching energy better keep up on Iran... long or short.  So would you like to retract your claim that we have called for prices to increase?  Or do you just want to leave that hanging?

3. You will want to review our conflicts and disclosure policy.

I have read. When something smells biased and propagandized, it needs retorting!

Sounds great.  Too bad you aren't doing that here. If you want to retort my posts feel free.  However, it is better if you don't invent a new position for me that is easier for you to retort in the process.  I haven't said any of the things you take issue with.  Go argue with your phantom elsewhere.

What, exactly, does any of this have to do with watching crude futures options and pointing out some screwy stuff is going on?  Does that not meet with the approval of your socio-political framework?  Sounds progressive!

I am a socio capitalist, wealth through entrepreneurship, building business, and a part of the wealth for everyone.

Some work and pay for all.  You're a socialist.  Let's not mince words.

Well anyone with a reasonable IQ would know that there only two (one) countries which would attack Iran - Israel/ US, one or two, undecided - (Obama vs Hawks so far).

"Anyone watching energy better keep up on Iran... long or short."

So you do agree with me, ZEROHEDGE is reporting on Iran on a weekly basis, mostly long so far but might go short in the future? Excellent.

"What, exactly, does any of this have to do with watching crude futures options and pointing out some screwy stuff is going on? Does that not meet with the approval of your socio-political framework? Sounds progressive!"

Hawkish views on Iran do not meet my approval, if you do not understand socio world structure, why reply?

"Some work and pay for all. You're a socialist. Let's not mince words."

NO, 'some work and pay for all" sounds LIKE THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA WHEN IT WAS A GREAT COUNTRY, not the country you! and other bankers (you have of course worked in the banking industry) BASTERDIZED IT!!!!!!!!. I will repeat my sentence, its not that hard to understand because it is what the USA used to stand for:

wealth through entrepreneurship, building business, and a part of the wealth for everyone.

"Well anyone with a reasonable IQ would know that there only two (one) countries which would attack Iran - Israel/ US, one or two, undecided - (Obama vs Hawks so far)."

So did you find "American' or "U.S." in there? It wasn't clear from your answer.  Also, I notice you omitted Pakistan (the likely source of the latest attack).  I suppose that Reuters has something other than a "reasonable IQ" since they don't seem to know that only Israel or the US would attack Iran?

So you do agree with me, ZEROHEDGE is reporting on Iran on a weekly basis, mostly long so far but might go short in the future? Excellent.

I'm not sure we are reading the same website.  Perhaps it is some strange bizzaro web filter, or a bridge between parallel universes or somesuch at work?  Anyhow, your version sounds interesting.  Let me know how the neo-capitalist long-short Iran position works out.  (By the way, how are you shorting Iran exactly?  Is there a 2x Bear Iran ETF somewhere?)

Hawkish views on Iran do not meet my approval, if you do not understand socio world structure, why reply?

And you think Zero Hedge is hawkish on Iran (by which I take it you mean supportive of military action there) because we have observed interesting pricing in crude futures markets?  Again, I'm not sure we are reading the same website.  Your version sounds more... exciting though.  I will give you that.  Feel free to continue disapproving of Bizzaro Hedge, but please do it in Bizzaro Hedge's comment section instead.  Thanks!

The rest of your reply devolves into "I'm not a socialist but let's make sure we redistribute a bunch of wealth," amid a lot of arm flailing.  Given the prominence of CAPS in your post I can only conclude that some odd seizure attack or something took hold in the last two paragraphs (which explains the cognitive dysfunction evidenced by your socio-political confusion in that section).

Anyhow, thanks for participating.

Classic straw man attack on Marla that devolves into a personal attack when the lack of logic employed by the attacker failed to get a rise out of Marla. Perfectly played Marla. Perfectly played.

This is the brilliance of ZH displayed for all to see. The attackers anonymity doesn't protect him from his obviously flawed straw man attack. But Marla's anonymity allows her to stay on subject and not chase shadows.

Don't take the bait, stick to the facts, let the attacker collapse into a foaming-at-the-mouth example of the idiocy he is.

Zero Hedge has done more to publicize and openly question the ongoing crimes of countless individuals and entities than all the MSM outlets combined, principally because of its credibility.

In doing so, Zero Hedge has exposed itself to attack that its able to ward off because of the intelligence of its operators/contributors/commenters and its anonymous format.

I think this might fall under the classification of "terroristic threat."  You are flirting buddy....not to mention your blatent disrespect.

A terroristic threat is a crime generally involving a threat to commit violence communicated with the intent to terrorize another, to cause evacuation of a building, or to cause serious public inconvenience, in reckless disregard of the risk of causing such terror or inconvenience. It may mean an offense against property or involving danger to another person that may include but is not limited to recklessly endangering another person, harassment, stalking, ethnic intimidation, and criminal mischief.

Uh, that's Iran who is tying it to the West, as reported by Reuters. I'm not "trying" to tie it to anything. As for conspiracy, considering the group with apparent ties to the West immediately took credit, speculating about some internal Iranian freedom fighters no one has ever heard of before as the source sounds like the "out there" theory to me.

Bitch, after you called her bitch, I'd step in here and fcuk with you, but fight club has rules. If the ref is fighting seems some one needs to do some splainin' to you.

1st RULE: You do not talk about FIGHT CLUB.

2nd RULE: You DO NOT talk about FIGHT CLUB.

3rd RULE: If someone says "stop" or goes limp, taps out the fight is over.

4th RULE: Only two guys to a fight.

5th RULE: One fight at a time.

6th RULE: No shirts, no shoes.

7th RULE: Fights will go on as long as they have to.

8th RULE: If this is your first night at FIGHT CLUB, you HAVE to fight.

Now anon bitch, are you limp? You sure sound limp. Did you tap out? Did you say stop? Cause I'll remind her of the rules if she is beating up on you too bad.

Yes I did Kitty Head. I may need to post to you there, later. We are getting ready to have an epistemology/ontology debate. If I said I tend to be a postmodernist, deconstructionist type, could we head this off? Our discussion will be a long one, otherwise.

Regarding the above, there is emotion, but I also injected logic into my choice, too. Cut and pasted the rules of fight club, which this site is based on, and then I, for the most part, followed them. The fight is not mine, it is Marla's. But if we were at a party and the person called her a bitch in front of me, it would be difficult to restrain myself. That is emotion, but if I don't hit him/her (if it is a dude, I admit, I want to hit him bad) then I have subsumed my emotional desires to the logic of appropriate social interaction.

Has it slipped your memory that Kindasleazy Rice, when she was still secretary of state, under the Bush regime, called for and received billions in dollars for covert activities against Iran?

And it has been rather common knowledge that the "soldiers of God" group has been financially supported by the US, along with two other groups out of Northern Iraq (Kurds), and Pakistan, for quite some time.

Au contraire. Iranians are Persians. Baluchis are not. Civilization is tribal in this area. Memories are long. ( Ask an Arab about Mongol invasion. ) Everyone is stressed by economy. In a subsistence economy a 10% reduction =~ 10% less food = death. It doesn't take much assistance to help someone on the edge to strike 'back'. Nothing to loose.

Given all the influence of India in Afghanistan (road building, other construction, and protection of workers by Indian soldiers - which goes little reported, plus that $1.8 billion in aid to the Afghani gov't.), one might surmise the possibility of such a thing in the future, certainly by the Pakistanis, more so.....

Could you imagine the fun if China and Iran started supplying the Taliban with comparable assets?

Iran (shia sect, hazara/persian-ethnicity) does not really get along with the Taliban (radical sunni sect, pashtun ethnicity) - so it is unlikely that Iran will supply them with anything.

China supplies, on the other hand, already get through to the Taliban via their local launderer/proxy - Pakistan.

While most people here would like to relate everything to the financial markets, one has to be a bit broader in his thinking(don't fall in the same trap that most here accuse the general public off which is limited thinking). The Balochis(the region where the blast occured)are sunna,do have grievances with the current Iranina system. Many of their leaders have been excuted or imprisoned. The problem here is that this entorage of revolutionary guards was there obviously for reconcilliation(my assumprion),and the operation don't make sense from a tactical stanpoint for the group that carried it.

Also the direct link between the US and the Jundullah is the ribbon that ties it together.

Iran must tread carefully here; if they ramp up the Great Satan rhetoric, then the next attack on U.S. soil will be linked to them as a retaliatory strike for this killing, and the war with Iran will begin in earnest.

I expect a measured public response from Iran.

Not that any scenario involving a conflict with Iran will end well, but if Iran is not "proactive" their ability to disrupt the Strait of Hormuz will be all but neutralized. A first strike by US/Israel will quickly undo any "war" premium in the oil markets as their prime target will be the Tunb islands and associated threats to the Strait. The administration's delays in addressing the Afghan situation could well be related to an impending operation against Iran.

Regardless the owners of oil in the ground gain nothing, and only risk revenue, by failing to get it out and to the market. In fact unstable regimes have even more incentive to export.

Not sure exactly what you think has been "debunked." I've read all of the "debunking" from the corporate media on this topic, which amounts to hand-waving, appeals to authority and arguments absent supporting facts.

Here is an academic paper on this topic:

http://www.business.uiuc.edu/poteshma/WorkingPapers/UnusualOptionActivit...

"Consequently, the paper concludes that there is evidence of unusual option market activity in the days leading up to September 11 which is consistent with investors trading on advanced knowledge of the attacks."

This paper has most certainly never been "debunked."
