Only 35% of Americans Support the Afghanistan War
Despite the government's best efforts at scaring people with overblown hype
And at labeling people opposed to war as terrorists or traitors
And the government and media's attempt to sell the war as being necessary, good and patriotic

Only 35% of all Americans support the Afghanistan war, according to a new CNN poll.
Americans are finally starting to wake up ...

I don't pretend to know the real motive for remaining in Afghanistan
but consider this. Aside from all else it is good training for drone pilots
and de-sensetizing of soldiers in the event they are required "elsewhere".
Let's see what we have here....
-A horrible group of religious fanatics called the Taliban who enforce their own interpretation of Shari'a Law. Don't be a woman if the Taliban is around. Oh, and try not to get born there. Accidents of birth carry a cost.
-An "ally", who as Mayor of East Kabul, er, President of Afghanistan, has at least one Minister who owns a house on Dubai's Palm Island, with Rolls' in the yard, and was recently caught at Dubai Customs with $50 million in cash in his suitcase. Oh, and don't be a woman in Karzai controlled Afghanistan either. Again, don't get born there.
Our "ally" doesn't care enough to produce a non-corrupt government, so what difference does it make to the average rural Pushtu or Tajik who is in control? Why should the US spend any blood or treasure supporting anybody so unworthy? An easy way to pick up and leave is just to state the obvious, "My goodness, Karzai, we see you are corrupt! Well, serves you right what happens to you."
Al Qaeda? Even Leon Panetta and Gates estimate that there are no more than 100 al Qaeda types along the Afghan-Paki border, and even those might be in Pakistan. As for the training camps that used to exist in Afghanistan, al Qaeda now uses "live fire" drills in Iraq thanks to that war of choice, or camps in Pakistan and Somalia. The constant drone attacks have infuriated even the moderate types in Waziristan, and put additional pressure on an already weak coalition government in Islamabad (who just lost part of the coalition yesterday). There is not a single non-military politician in Pakistan who can lead the country and control a military and intelligence service split between being Pro-Pakistan and Pro-Islam. Look out nuclear proliferation, look out India. Policy failure: Obama.
The only reason the US is still in Afghanistan is because no one has yet determined what "victory" is, so no one can yet say the US has achieved it. The Nobel Peace Prize winner's excessive use of Pakistani Wedding Crashers, aka drones, is making new enemies every day, and at some future date will lead to criminal charges against the Gameboys safely playing computer warrior ten thousand miles away while munching on Big Macs. Obviously the CO's and POTUS will be immune from prosecution, but some little guys will do time.
Count me in the 65%.
It used to be that if you ever uttered a word against the status quo (also known way back when as .... the 'establishment') that you were branded as a 'commie, pinko' and
told to leave the US.
Amazing how those troglodytes seem to have died off.
All for the better too.
While there's an aware crowd here on ZeroHedge.... how does that get leveraged
to the mainstream. Because while it might be as some have stated that it's only 10% of the population that are the drivers in a revolution.... we aren't yet in a revolution.
George Washington here seems to have a wise formula.
Persistence. Steady persistence with a calm, rational argument.
Like the Colorado wearing away the limestone untill it has created this vast canyon.
I imagine it takes time to alter public perceptions.
Steady as she goes.
Cut and paste from above.
Financial/survival stress can quickly kill off apathy.
I'm pretty much in agreement here GW. The 1999 NATO bombing of Yugoslavia is looking pretty good right now by comparison isn't it? I think we lost like two guys in that one. I understood the Get The Taliban motivation in the beginning and I was all for it but I thought we had learned our lesson with this shit already: Rubble don't make trouble and nation building is for bonus points only.
'Restrepo' is well worth watching in this context http://restrepothemovie.com/
Here are a bunch of great soldiers, really likeable American guys, facing terrible, constant hardship and danger - for what? They spend a year fighting over some shitty hilltop in the middle of nowhere, bumping up against and haggling with the crazy locals who might as well be the fucking Sand People from 'Star Wars' ...getting shot at every day, getting killed...and then in the end their outpost is just abandoned like that. Sorry fellas.
Oh, and now we're also protecting the heroin trade to show that we care about indigenous livelihoods....and screwing around in Pakistan...lots of ways to win there I'm sure...
What the hell?
Look closely at the thread.
Everybody so far has commented rather narrowly upon the war in Afghanistan when in fact, it is officially referred to as the Af-Pak conflict.
Indeed, the propagandamedia mechanism is even subsuming those of us claiming freedom therefrom into the Hegelian Dialect.
QED
We too, are being compromised.
Breathe deeply...
The first step is in admitting that we ourselves suffer from a problem...
The other 65% don't know there is an Afghanistan war.
10 years into the battle now those who were 11 years old are now 21 with 3 children of their own. Sadly we have failed to reach the hearts and minds except possibly to close them forever.
You are not a problem, you are a pacifist. But that is dishonering the many who genuinely came to that postion sans ideology.
Only 2% to 5% said they thought it was going VERY WELL. Never a rave review.
That was 2007 thru 2010. (go to the link at the bottom).
Obama said he would extract the US from that war. Did he do it?
Gotta fight Alcia duh to stop the terrorists.
There is $40 trillion in oil reserves out there. We need to take a giant chunk of the $1 trillion we are using for our insane military and make the value of that go close to zero. Terrorism will then go away. Otherwise, we are just taking up the ass from a few thousand Defense CEOs and major shareholders... wake the fuck up people...
No oil in Afghanistan amigo. Wrong geology. Perhaps there is some
other hidden motive besides the above mentioned "stimulus" but oil
ain't it.
How 'bout them poppies? Think anyone made a profit from the heroin trade?
... and yes, the Nobel Peace prize has zero meaning...but you see, everyone must have a second term (otherwise you a damn losa) and if he pulls out of Shitcountry then Bin Laden (as he still lives) would pull the trigger on a terror attack and then Palin would get in which is what Bin Laden really wants - just pure unadulterated chaos...
What bin laden wants is to destroy the US economically. The banksters are doing a mighty fine job of that without any outside assistance.
Bin Laden makes all his propaganda clips in a studio few blocks from the Hollywood in LA. Bin Laden is an old CIA operative.
It's not a war, it's a ....stimulus program!
You nailed it buddy, that is the whole story right there!
I think Graham would love to be bitch-slapped, if you know what I mean. That asshole wouldn't last a night out there. The Wimpy Warmonger. Can someone from that state please explain his existence ?
35%..... so in Bush's darkest moments (say, the last 5 years)... support got down to 26%...so we have a new segment of the warmonger, idiot mix. Anyone speculate on who this 9% is ? They read ? Speak ?
Yes, but only basic gibberish, with occasional grunts and belches.
And copious farting.
Obama, like Bush before him, is an Un-American War Monger. It is nice to finally see Americans wake up to the truth....
Unfortunately, guys like Ron Paul will never win - will never get the backing required to be in a position to win.
Until the game is played differently. Financial/survival stress can quickly kill off apathy, IMO.
Are 35% of Americans aware there's a war going on in Afghanistan in the first place?
Noted tough Senator Lindsay Graham thinks we should have permanent bases in Afghanistan. So there you go. Who cares what the American people who have to pay for these things think.
Wait a minute. There's a WAR in Afghanistan?
If there was something going on, don't you think CNN or Fox or somebody would be talking about it all the time?
I just don't think I believe you.
No, not Afganistan, it's called Ignoritstan. Don't worry, we've got it covered.
They're considering using that weapon you mentioned a few days ago.
99% of Americans believe in a false alternative:
- endlessly spend blood and treasure against an enemy we cannot name
- declare a loss, blame ourselves, and surrender
Of course, as Chamberlain proved, appeasement never works.
The above should *NOT* be taken to mean that I support security theater, suspension of the Constitution, guilty-until-proven innocent, gestapo tactics, etc.
"35% of Americans Support the Afghanistan War"....uh! 35% of Americans are idiots.?
I doubt the figure is that high. Remember who it came from.
best post ever
Looks like it's time for another false flag attack to pump up the numbers.
Let us stop repeating the same lies again and again. Germans/Nazi did not start the WWII. Stalin and FDR did.
It is funny but following the collapse of the Soviet Union some documents were released. Russian historians studying these documents concluded that in April of 1939, FDR was doing everything in his power (money, arms, geopolitical concessions) to involve Soviets in a war with Nazi Germany. However, Stalin had different plans hoping that Germans would be involved in a long and protracting war with England, France, and America. Then, after the fighting sides became exhausted, Stalin intended to invade and capture the entire Europe. By May1941, Stalin had much more combat aircraft, tanks, artillery, etc., that America, England, France, Germany together plus a 8.5-millions strong army.
Back in 1939, FDR and Churchill came with the idea of "a regime change" in Germany. Sounds familiar? FDR goals was to protect and defend Jewish bankers who were expelled from Germany in 1933-1935. Note Nazi did not arrest or imprisoned Jews until 1938.
Hitler wanted to get rid of the Versaille Treaty. This treaty was unjust and had to go. Soviets also never recognized the legitimacy of the Treaty.
The Soviets got half of China ?
Please explain.
And the half of Europe ? They got it for 44 years (excluding the eastern part of what was Poland, which part admittedly they now have in perpetuity).
WWII was one of the noblest thing US ever did. We did not do it for for profit. Yes we timed it to come out on top. I call that good strategy. WWII WAS necessary. Would you have Hitler running the world? Fuck you ArmanyDinnerJacket
Give me a break. American long-range bombers were flying over the concetration camps in Poland and they pretended that they didn't know afterwards - the Russians were first to liberate all the big camps I hardly need add.
Also, another piece of American fiction (thanks Hollywood) is that the Americans won the WW2 for the Allies - BS. The Germans had 5 times as many troops on the Eastern Front as on their Western Front. Nevertheless, the Russians got to Berlin first despite having to push the Germans back around 3 times the distance that the Americans/British/Canadians etc. did. Don't believe me? Go check the history books and measure the distances.
For a person who claims to be Jewish, you are surprisingly ill-informed. BTW, as many Christians as Jews died in the Holocaust - tell that to your friend Spielberg!
As for the Afghan war,
The world needs America to keep China at bay.
By your reasoning.
