Only In America- General Motors to Offer a 60-Day, Money-Back Guarantee
In a country and consumership society that loves a guarantee, and demands satisfaction, General Motors too will now offer a 60-day, money-back guarantee if you're not completely satisfied with your Chevrolet, GMC, Buick or Cadillac purchase. Yes, much like a late-night infomercial- you'll be completely idemnified if you're not happy.
The new GM Chairman Edward Whitacre Jr. will appear on television and like Jimmy Dean and his sausage commercials- will guarantee his product, "or your money back."
Lee Iacocca guaranteed your satisfaction with the Chrysler K-car back in the 80's but, that was just to be taken at face value. Remember "if you find a better car, buy it?" Yeah, that was his excuse- but it worked, at least back then.
Running now through the end of November, GM will allow its customers to return the vehicles, no questions asked, for a full refund within 31 to 60 days of the return.
Stipulations include- the vehicle must not have more than 4,000 miles on the clock and the buyer must be current on their payments.
The offer is good on Chevy, Caddy, Jimmy and Buick lines- but not Pontiac, which is being phased out.
Evidently- similar programs offered in other countries by other makers (have they offered this? I don't know for sure?) have seen a return rate of roughly two to three percent- according to a statement made by GM.
This is quite a sales gimmick- but, having worked in the business- it's going to be a nightmare in paperwork, as well as a heartache for many a pissed-off buyer who wants out, because if it's one thing about the American car business- there's always a catch. Don't be surprised if you still have to pay your dealer fees, documentation fees, destination fees and other fees for this "100%" money-back guarantee. Because even on an infomercial offer- you still have to pay for shipping, handling and processing if not completey satisfied.
There will be snags. I guarantee it.

Short the car rental companies....LOL
You can drive a new clunker for 60 days free!
Exactly my thinking. The buy & sell paperwork will likely be less than rental cost, so they'd better add more qualifiers.
Time for a road trip!
lol... you took my thought before I could get it typed in :-)
Next up - money back guarantees on houses.
and expired dairy products
Costco will take anything, including expired dairy
They're desperate.
That'll get 'em rolling in, now that Cash for Clunkers has pulled forward all the demand for the next six months, at least. Who thinks of this stuff?
The supply was already still overloaded and now they are ramping production for a market that will be worse than what they just came through.
It will have succeeded in padding GDP numbers which all part of this confidence game they are playing.
Paint the tape=paint the psyche.
As Toyota pulls back ~10%. I agree with you, but this shell game can go on only for so long.
The Obama Economy will be a cesspool of unintended consequences.
in california..the sales tax rate is now 8.75%, so if u buy a $30,000 car, u will pay $2,625 to arnold. u won't get that back either.
Tax: 2625.00 ( non-refundable )
Now don't forget the CA Vehicle registration for
the same 30K vehicle.
Registration: $3,283.00
Tax: $2,625.00

fuck em...the consumer spoke during CfC when they didnt buy GMs crap
Looks like they are trying to empty their inventories. Do they have a new technology on the ready that would make the old stuff obsolete soon?
Yes, Ecoboost for the SHO. ROTFLMAO.

Our electric grid cannot even handle all the air conditioners and big screen TVs we have.
It certainly cannot support electric cars.
And never mind that most electricity comes from burning compressed dinosaur guts [coal].
Electricity is not a clean energy.
I here you CB. But I believe there is a slight hitch in that particular line of thinking.

This kind of stuff is why I quietly laugh at the "Inconvenient Truth" / Global Warming crowd.
LOL; I'm in a insomnia induced delirium bordering with madness, but this shit is even crazier than i am; you got one thing right though; only in America.
I tried to buy a new Ford last week for my kid, but they tried to gaff us on the rebates and interest rate (and price). So instead, I bought him a new KIA. More car, better warranty, less $$. As for GM and Chrysler, there's NO WAY, I would buy anything from those walking corpses - especially since those two, in their current form, were stolen from shareholders/bondholders and essentially given for free to the unions. Bah!
Oh and by the way, if you do go look at a new Ford, look underneath the rear of the car before you buy.
Every single new Ford we looked at last week, was heavily rusted on the under carriage - and these are brand new cars.
There were more than 20 new 2009/2010 mustangs that we examined and on EVERY SIGNLE ONE of them, the rear axle and rear suspension was heavily covered in rust - I kid you not!
American Axle up f-ing 25%, on positive outlook for pickup truck sales... fantastic.
In an attempt to create anything resembling wage inflation......
General Motors Co. has rescinded temporary pay cuts for salaried staff, including many executives, a spokeswoman said on Friday.

Well I think that this is the official signal that recession is officially over... would someone call Dennis and let him know he was right after all :-)
Pisani: "wage stagflation is a victory for the bulls."
Lithium batteries explode. They explode in laptops they are beginning to explode in hand held games and apple iphones etc etc. You put 20 lbs of lithium in a car full of batteries and you'll have rolling fire starters bombs class action lawsuits. We have a super efficient capacitor that would make electric cars cheap and easy and safe but it appears to be military only.
This is step one in the process of becoming a rent to own company. The "you can bring the stuff back" sales pitch is what keeps the rent to own industry viable. Of course, a lot of times people just get a big screen delivered to their apartment and then move...
