Just think of this inherently... Up to this point, Obama has blamed all of his transgressions on the previous administration. I can say with certainty, swine flu isn't going to be the basis for Obama to enact such measures.
What happens to his political capital/goodwill when he sets up guantanamo in the continental U.S. and puts white people in it? Is that change you can believe in or "not only shitty like the last guy, but worse"? No possible way this happens.

The issue was raised during the Bush Admin. I recall Army troop deployment plan for a site upstate from NYC. The issue of posse comitatus was discussed and steam rolled. It was reported in the MSM briefly. Something about millions of body bags reported by that web radio guy in NY deemed to be a kook. I humored you... even though I didn't like your racially motivated post the other day... so I searched FEMA Concentration Camps... and just like I thought I would I ended up in the the extreme-crazy-right-wing-world... but about 8 entries in was one from Glenn Beck (who exemplifies the right-wing of the MSM, but I will emphasize he is not in the crazy extremes, his ideas are a little over the top sometimes imho)... and he actually worked at debunking in thisinternet rumor this spring:

A new bill has been introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives called the National Emergency Centers Act or HR 645. This bill if passed into law will direct the Secretary of Homeland Security to establish national emergency centers otherwise known as FEMA camp facilities on military installations. This is an incredibly disturbing piece of legislation considering that the powers that be have already set in motion an agenda to setup a nationwide marital law apparatus through U.S. Northern Command and the Department of Homeland Security. Apparently, the fusion centers, militarized police, surveillance cameras and a domestic military command is not enough. Even though we already know that detention facilities are already in place, they now want to legalize the construction of FEMA camps on military installations using the ever popular excuse that the facilities are for the purposes of a national emergency. With the phony debt based economy getting worse and worse by the day, the possibility of civil unrest is becoming a greater threat to the establishment. One need only look at Iceland, Greece and other nations for what might happen in the United States next. With this in mind, it appears as if these so called national emergency centers will be used in a national emergency but only if the national emergency requires large groups of people to be rounded up and detained. If that isn’t the case, than why have these national emergency facilities built in military installations?

Thanks... read it... appears to be a program where persons already adjudicated in the criminal justice system and incarcerated in primarily Federal Prisons (although they can use other prisons also if there is no fee involved) are loaned out to the Army as free labor... which makes them actually productive instead of sitting in a cell 24/7...
With a few exceptions, the Army’s Civilian Inmate Labor Program is currently limited to using inmates from facilities under the control of the Federal Bureau of Prisons...

I agree we need to stay open... but there is a way to present ideas that offers people the chance to reflect and analyze... then there are reactive posts which offer no basis to even begin to analyze the relevance... and to accept that rant at face value would be as bad as the German citizens accepting what Hitler said at face value. Well as much as i completely appreciate what Glenn Beck is doing now, it was only maybe a few months ago when he learned that the Fed was a privately held corporation, so, i wouldn't count on him being the barometer of verity for things in our universe.

The language in the bill says they can be used: "(4) to meet other appropriate needs, as determined by the Secretary of Homeland Security". Of course, that could be anything, including civil unrest.
They will probablt be "sold" as help centers in the event of another hurricane Katrina, or perhaps to house people with a contagious illness.
They are being set up on closed military bases which is problematic. Why not a foreclosed hotel? Plenty to choose from.

Is that a military coupe--as in Coupe de Ville? I'm trying to visualize a desert camouflage Caddy with a diamond in the back, sun roof top, diggin' the scene with a gangsta lean, ooh hoo. A few questions arise:
1) is the trade deficit ever going to turn into a surplus? (if you answer no then I would really like to hear the reason)
2) when will the trade deficit turn into a surplus?
3) how is this going to occur (a mooth bell curve reversion or a sudden drop)?
I speculate that regardless of whether the United States government ever intends to pay its obligations (deferal debt, medicare, mediaid, social security) the deficit will have to go down. If the United states does decide to go down the course of paying off its debt then it will have to at some point have a trade surplus to do so. If the United States does not go down that course and instead strive to perpetually expand its debt then the trade creditors will eventually attempt to break free of this unfavorable condition.
I have heard the argument that the exporters "need" the US consumer but I am quite certain that they know how to consume just as well as the US. Does it all come down to geopolitics and military strength?
I don't want this thread to develop into an echo chamber of worshiping ZH posts ( that was done many many many times, and rightfully so ) so i'll ask a somewhat esoteric question; in the year 2010 do you see any potential arms conflict which could shake the global economy; as an example of the nature of that conflict i would like to point you toward Israel-Iran conflict; Russia-Georgia or even a " black swan " type of event which could happen between two or more industrialized countries in the middle Asia and possibly Latin America.
In order of probability:
1) Caspian Sea. There's oil there.
2) northern south america. There's oil there. Hugo chavez signed a deal with China for avoiding dollars in their oil trade. There will be a reaction.
3) Mexico. Civil unrest, conflict seems like an excellent excuse for the US/UN to barge in and save the day.
5) Pakistan. But I see the conflict there as more of an isolated thing.
A pretty sad state of affairs the geopolitical scene is right now IMO. A pretty straight forward formula for where the next war will crop up is this: resources of the land/difficulty of obtaining those resources. The difficulty depends on the will and armament of the indigenous people as well as the perceived geopolitical implications.
I have an Israeli friend who completely believes that at some point in the next year, Israel will take our Iran's nuclear installation with or with the US's help. It will be messy, but necessary.
I also agree with South America. Chavez has been militarizing Venezuela big time, which will eventually cause a mini-arms race in South America. This is actually good for the US, Russia and China, but you put all those weapons in the hands of a psycho like Chavez and he will use it at some point.

Cheeks I don't quite see things that way. I would definately expect Israel to take out Iran's nuke. They have no choice. They won't have any U.S. support because Bama is, well, you know. But Israel will have the support of the other Arab countries because they don't want Iran to have a nuke either. So, although they may not publicly support Israel I think they will do it behind the scenes. Any oil shortage will be short lived and the other Arab countries will be more than happy to sell oil at a higher price.

you're looking it from the wrong perspective. It is not about nuclear weapons; it is about the inner conflict that could arise from the support for Israel. Remember Islamic countries are dominated by both religious and public opinion. Governments are merely a middle man for that interest to be implemented on the whole of the society and potential enemies to be removed.
Obama may not publicly support such a move by Israel, but I assure you that move, if it happens, will be supported at least clandestinely by our interests/resources in the region. The CIA would likely have a hand in it and I could see Israel making a deal to use our bases in Iraq to stage or gather intelligence.
