Overnight Clips From A Revolutionary Egypt

Tyler Durden's picture

You won't see these images on the TV. After all we haven't even anniversaried Waddell & Reed's sudden and dramatic selling of ES into a bidless market that caused the world's most "liquid" stock market to lose 1,000 points. In the meantime, what is going on in Egypt is promptly deteriorating. Our only question is: who's next?

This might be good for Tunisians and anyone who follows. Change is much needed in the region, dominated by autocracy. In the second video shows IAEA Atomic Inspector wiggling his way to rule Egypt. That is a very strong indication that the Oligarchs are behind these insurrections, just probably a puppet show - replace Mubabrak by El-Baradei and the show will go on. Unless I see a Muslim Brotherhood taking power this is all farce. Hilary still supporting Mubarak in word atleast.

As anyone who's been to Egypt or worked with them will know, there are some golden rules:

it's always someone else's fault

no matter how bad your problem is, they have a worse one

everybody's got their own idea how to fix everything, and they won't listen to any else, but will keep talking.

they will never give an honest answer if they can think of a more elaborate alternative

Seriously, if they lose the strong man leadership and embrace the idea of democracy, we'll end up with 18 million political parties, and only the Islamic Brotherhood will get people to vote for them without favors and bribes.

I'm sorry that this sounds vaguely racist, but anyone who's tried to work in or with Egyptians will understand.

Still is doing something better than just sitting there and continuing the status quo?

Depends, .. on the cost vs benefit analysis, lol but in our case (any Western Economy), I would say yes !

The long term benefits of shaking dat political machine and bringing the new faces will

outmatch costs... Not calling for riots, but a somewhat peaceful mass demonstration in the center of every large city, with demands for a f. change for a change and breaking up the financial lobby would be nice.

And don't give us a f. energy independence by 2035 bull shit promisses, we want the open responsible government and we want it now !

Why, well cause we deserve better.

p.s. It is kind of disappointing not to see young people repeating the 60's movement and demanding better government. Generation X, Y & Z.. it is about time you left your mark in history,  about damn time.

Ah yes, "western democracy," the brainwashed mindset/populist front that has helped us to:

-develop and use, ruthlessly, all the most horrible weapons of the last 200 years;

-take fiat currency far beyond its logical end, turning the biggest liars into the biggest winners and starving much of the world;

-extend "the vote" to any imbecile with a pulse, guaranteeing that "elections" are swayed by whoever is best at manipulating idiots, regardless of how easily more intelligent people see through their lies;

-create and advertise the highest principles of decency, while doing virtually the exact opposite in reality.

Etc. etc.  Aristotle was quite right. If you don't know what that means, you need to look it up.

Let's look at who's choosing our legislators and executive at the present time:

http://www.peopleofwalmart.com/

Do you actually think this is the best possible system of governance?

I don't think someone should be allowed to vote unless they are, at a minimum, capable of taking basic care of their personal finances, managing a very simple business, and mature, moral and responsible enough that you could, in good conscience, let them babysit a few children for an afternoon.

A majority of our current legislators would fail that test, and I don't think they got there by being voted in by people who meet that test.

I LOVE! what you said... I do, God strike me dead, I do... but I have to disagree...

I know, bare with me...

There should be no citizen of the United States.. that is so ignorant.. to elect what we now have.. ever again.. We (me and you Max, everyone else too) should make sure to educate anyone and everyone we can.. if we fail at insuring minimum requirements for education then we doom the next generation to suffer being robbed blind by inflation part duex... feel me?

Everyone should be educated and everyone should be able to vote.. '

The flip side of the arguement that you are making, I made when I was 25... I should be able to vote based on the taxes I pay. If I pay taxes as compared to 15% of my community, then I should get 15% of the vote based on my level of responsibility / shouldering the carry of that community... see it gets real dicey real quick when we throw our ego in... I am one man, what I do as one man is my business but I should not have more rights than any other one man... regardless of how much more I pay than any other man.

I hope that helped, I really was not trying to be a dick.

"God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion.
The people cannot be all, and always, well informed. The part which is
wrong will be discontented, in proportion to the importance of the facts
they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions,
it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty. ...
And what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not
warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of
resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as
to the facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost
in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from
time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
It is its natural manure."

-- Thomas Jefferson

Alright, if it must happen may it be quick, painless, and effective then. But I doubt it - the nature of chaos is its unpredictability and the baying mob is a senseless monster. Armed conflicts almost always affect the innocents the most. I wouldn't wish it on anyone - even Americans.

Egypt protesters set fire to government building in Suez

(Reuters) - Protesters in Suez set a government building on fire and tried to burn down a local office of Egypt's ruling party late on Wednesday, security sources and witnesses said.

Officials in the city in Egypt's northeast ordered that shops be closed after incidents of looting were reported. Clashes with police left some 55 people injured, according to Reuters witnesses.

Protesters threw petrol bombs at the National Democratic Party office but failed to set it alight. Police fired teargas to push the demonstrators back, they said.

What we are seeing is the end of the line of the lies and obfuscation that happens when an economy has been hijacked and it's wealth taken and the govt. is telling you the opposite.  These people as in Tunisia are tired of the lies the corruption the double speak the blatant hypocrisy of their society.  Young people with degrees and no jobs (sound familiar), retirees money isn't going as far as it should, etc. etc..  These people aren't dumb, they want the status quo to end and end now.  Will this happen in the US, yes it will but not against the state.  As we have done before, the govt. will make a boogeyman for the restless population to go after.  And then let them fight it out.
