The Pain In Spain Comes Mainly In The Form Of A Police Baton
A few weeks ago some rather disturbing scenes of police brutality were caught on tape following that particular day's austerity protest (now a daily occurrence). It now appears that Spain police has learned a thing or two from Greek Policemen especially when it comes to dispersing protesters. Expect these videos showing a violent smackdown of protesters on Barcelona's main Plaça Catalunya, to go viral shortly.

All I was thinking watching this is how these thugs should get beaten themselves. I imagined someone slicing open open of the cops achilles heels with a knife, the only place they are vulnerable, and the beating said attacker would then endure. If, from 9000 miles, that is my response imagine what the Spanish populous is thinking.

Problem with spray paint is you have to stand right in front of the policeman, and then stay there for several seconds while, presumably, he is beating you with something. Paint balloons are better.

Last night I was watching Discovery or History (some relatively useless channel) and they highlighted Broward County Police. They used the SWAT team to do a raid on a guy. They went in with flash-bang grenades, semi-auto assault rifles, and full combat gear to confiscate less than a nickel-bag of pot.
Don't you think these abusers of freedom are itching for a full-scale riot?? Hell yes! They are the ones that will turn a protest into a riot and will smash your skull in with a baton with no regrets. If you have any doubts, just Google Prince George's County police and see how they act whenever University of Maryland beats Duke!!!

There is a lot of noise about these types of things coming to NA. I doubt it will get that severe here but hey - what do I know. If it does it won't be polic snipers versus the crowd but civilian snipers versus polic snipers, helicopters, armoured vehicles etc. It would be very very very ugly. The government tactics of beating the protestors is stupid. They need to go medieval on them and put them under siege. Just surround the protest area. No food goes inside the area. Remove any access to bathrooms. Then just non-violently stand back and wait. Let the protestors protest all they want. Hunger and lack of sanitation will do their job for them.
From the protestor point of view, there is no better marketing than video of armored police thugs beating unarmed women and people sitting on the ground in a non-violent manner.

In any case most don't have much knowledge or experience in protest movements. All of these comments recommending Rambo tactics need to realize that those tactics have been tried on many occasions and always fail in western democracies.
The pseudo-democratic governments in the west achieve sovereignty through propaganda, not violence. The way to destroy their sovereignty is by forcing them to reveal their true colors and resort to violence. That violence ends up on videos like this which results in popular support and swelling in numbers of protestors. It's pure propaganda on the part of the protestors, beating the state at their own game. It's not that these pigs don't deserve to be met with violence, but if these protestors turn violent this movement will not succeed.
Yes and no. There WILL be mutual violence. If the movement expands and becomes popular (already the case in spain), violent confrontations will happen, no matter how much of a minority - and the state sponsored media (read: all mainstream media), will focus exclusively on those cases. So, you cannot prevent the MSM showing violent stuff anyways... what instead matters is that you can spread a lot of contradicting media.... thus achieving a double-win: Getting support AND making people stop trusting MSM media.
Oh, and.... if during such a movement you will get the chance of controlling media that has wide coverage, make it a primary objective! Get as much media control as you can get.
Even if there isn't mutual violence, it'll be staged and disseminated without question by the corporate-state media. Which is why you're right, you need to spread as much contradicting media as possible to combat the onslaught in the mainstream press.

while i hate to agree with you, these videos are excessively tame.. has anyone on this site been to protests in the US? they use fire extinguishers filled with mace to douse whole crowds, tear gas, rubber bullets and sand bags, pull whole groups of people and plastic cuff them just to get them out of the way..
this currently still works as effective crowd control for the levels of people demonstrating, but i won't be surprised in any way when the first live round hits the first live american.

I'd expect that these protestors are well trained in the art of non-violent resistance, which has by any reasonable measure proven the most effective means in the era of television and internet video. They are urging one another not to violently resist. Because when average joe on his couch sees this he says, "what the fuck, those cops are beating those innocent people for no reason!" Next day that crowd multiplies five-fold and their sheer #s force the police to escalate. Ideally number of protestors continues to grow and number of cops and level of force used continues to escalate until there are no more cops to summon and protestors win and pigs are forced to retreat and hide until it's over.

I give your scenario a couple of days. Once violence begins to escalate, there will be no stopping it.

Violence would be a strategic error on the part of the people. Western pseudo-democratic governments rule their populations through propaganda, not murder. They don't have the stomach to use the level of force necessary to successfully put down a peoples' overthrow if that's what this is. However, they will clumsily escalate their tame level of violence and play right into the hands of the protestors. The only way the protestors lose is if they too become violent. Think about it, you're in a bar and you see two men fighting. You most likely step back and let them have at it. But you see one man calmly sitting in his bar stool and another pummeling him, you're much more likely to act in that man's defense.
I know this is a bit sick, and myself I feel uncomfortable watching this, but this is unfortunately necessary.
