Paul Krugman Comments On Shooting, Blames Republicans For "Hate-Mongering"

Tyler Durden's picture

Just posted by Paul Krugman, who apparently doesn't need to hear the facts before blasting away at Republicans.

From the NYT:

We don’t have proof yet that this was political, but the odds are that it was. She’s been the target of violence before.
And for those wondering why a Blue Dog Democrat, the kind Republicans
might be able to work with, might be a target, the answer is that she’s a
Democrat who survived what was otherwise a GOP sweep in Arizona,
precisely because the Republicans nominated a Tea Party activist. (Her
father says that “the whole Tea Party” was her enemy.) And yes, she was on Sarah Palin’s infamous “crosshairs” list.

Just yesterday, Ezra Klein remarked that opposition to health reform was getting scary.
Actually, it’s been scary for quite a while, in a way that already
reminded many of us of the climate that preceded the Oklahoma City
bombing.

You know that Republicans will yell about the evils of partisanship
whenever anyone tries to make a connection between the rhetoric of Beck,
Limbaugh, etc. and the violence I fear we’re going to see in the months
and years ahead. But violent acts are what happen when you create a
climate of hate. And it’s long past time for the GOP’s leaders to take a
stand against the hate-mongers.

Update: I see that Sarah Palin has called the
shooting “tragic”. OK, a bit of history: right-wingers went wild over
anyone who called 9/11 a tragedy, insisting that it wasn’t a tragedy, it
was an atrocity.

Update: I’m going to take down comments on this one;
they would need a lot of moderating, because the crazies are coming out
in force, and it’s all too likely to turn into a flame war.

Details about the "trusted identity" project are remarkably scarce. Last year's announcement referenced a possible forthcoming smart card or digital certificate that would prove that online users are who they say they are. These digital IDs would be offered to consumers by online vendors for financial transactions.

*squirms*

thanks for those links Salinger, the above is from the second one which made my eye twitch. . .

while I'm keeping an open mind about today's event(s), one link on the main thread caught my spidey-senses:

Rep. Giffords was recruited to run for Congress in 2006 by Rahm Emanuel, the former White House chief of staff who was at the time head of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. Mr. Emanuel noted that she was shot while "doing the Congress on your corner" kind of event that he pioneered in his home district in Chicago and that he encouraged new Democratic lawmakers to do regularly when back home.

it's just a small piece of information (from the WSJ, with one of those annoying, large URLs), but these "events" are always staged and/or used to push forward the agenda, IMHO. . . and your links have the sharp tang of "agenda" from where I'm sitting.

I'm sure more will arise from the dirt over time, sadly.

Expect more like Krugman. I reviewed the suspects YouTube videos. He was anti-government, and, in my opinion, psychotic. Schizophrenia strikes first from the late teens/early 20s. This assailants writings were near gibberish, paranoid, and he was convinced everything was "conscious dreaming." Meaning he could no longer distinguish reality from the dream state.

Anti-government would be anarchist. Those who believe in complete government control over everything in your life are statists/socialists/communists.

Those who believe in smaller, less intrusive government, would be the vast middle ground in between these two extremes.

First of all, while victims are still in the operating room and only a suspect’s name and his YouTube site have been released, why is an economics professor outlining the full scenario of cause and effect?  Do we not have Bernanke’s opinion, for example, or Geithner’s…is it because they are not Nobel Prize winners?

Paul Krugman’s comments could have been written yesterday; it’s not as if he has the total picture of what this represents.  That Krugman and others on the Left are decrying “hate speech” before they even have the full details shows what this is—an agenda. And what is Paul Krugman's column but politics and hate?

When Kennedy was shot the media instantly spread a mantle of guilt over all of his opponents, decrying that their opposition created this act of violence.  Over and over and over the public was told, “Our hands are stained with blood"--as if the actions of one person applied to a entire political viewpoint. (Incidentally, Oswald was never convicted.)

In this case, Krugman is so inappropriate.  The man is completely out of his element.  It’s bad enough that he is a poor economist and a shameless, corrupt insider, but now, like Alan Greenspan, he has an opinion on everything.  Perhaps Greenspan could be encouraged to appear on NPR for a running commentary, hour by hour, as the details sift in.

Honestly, I can't believe Paul Krugman has waded feet first into this issue like this.  Are you sure it was Paul Krugman?

A young man who walks up and shoots indiscriminately people that he doesn’t know, hardly represents a widespread viewpoint in this country. The Tea Party people in Arizona--right down to Loughner’s closest friends, his relatives--are mortified.  And then, for Krugman - Krugman for heaven’s sake! -  to bring out Sarah Palin and say that she is probably happy now, implying that she was not sorry to see this, makes you begin to wonder about HIS mental condition.

He’s over the top.

At this point, you know whom to blame; it’s the guy who pulled the trigger.  But why he did it, no one knows at this time. The point is, to make a political statement about what happened today as Krugman did is a mistake.  This is not the time to take political sides. This is not good what happened today; this is bad   It shows extreme lack of understanding to make a political comment today.

Why would he drive off of a bridge anyway?  There is a theory that someone did a head on chicken type deal with him, which means, he had only one choice, go off the bridge in order to not be hit by a approaching car. You have to understand the Kennedy family and its tragic circumstances, circumstances, I might add, that were introduced into that family by, let's just call them, parties unknown, for reasons, that we can only guess about. It all has to do with the old man and his political views during ww2. Revenge is the name of the game, if you must know. The Kennedy's were Irish Catholic. And that my friends is clue number 1.

Paul Krugman is a disgusting simpleton and a fool. I doubt he has had any commentary for other tragedies. Why now? More than likely he feels threatened on his economic views and maybe he himself has received threats.

The problem I see is that many of us are so polar opposite of what we think will get us out of this mess. In these cases it is hard to find common ground. We must though and peacefully find solutions.  Our democracy is strengthened by debate and will be torn end to end by violence.

Krugman: There Will Be Blood

Former Senator Alan Simpson, co-chairman of a special commission on deficit reduction, says: "I can't wait for the blood bath in April. ... When debt limit time comes, they're going to look around and say, ‘What in the hell do we do now? We've got guys who will not approve the debt limit extension unless we give 'em a piece of meat, real meat,' " meaning spending cuts. "And boy, the blood bath will be extraordinary," he continued.

So, the shooter was a republican? Didn't know that connection had been made. Maybe it's just me, but I find the rhetoric of Olbermann, Griffin, and those folks to be much more inciteful than Beck or Limbaugh.

Anyways-it's more likely the judge (a Bush appontee) was the target than the congresswoman.

Violence is NOT the answer. Pointing fingers at anyone other than the shooter is wrong. He was the nutjob who decided to put an extended magazine on his gun, and shoot over a dozen people.

Later, when the back story is known, then we can discuss intelligently the merits of his motivation and his world view.

Until that time. I would suggest that we look for common ground upon which we can agree. This was wrong. It is the worst thing that anyone could do. It takes the actions of one man and causes a country to over-react to the point that we who love freedom will loose more of that precious commodity to those in the government who would be our masters, and are only waiting for something like this to put their plans into place.

And on January 7th 2011, Markos Moulitsas of the leftwingiest Daily Kos listed those who voted against Pelosi, and said, "they have put a bull's eye on their backs." Which naturally upset one of their left wingiest nut job readers and bloggers, who might well be Jared Loughlin, the shooter.

Is left wing site DAILY KOS's "BOYBLUE" Jared Loughlin? Sure sounds like he is and DK scrubbed his ramblings from January 7th 2011 from their site pronto. Check out the link to the screen grab below. Why did DAILY KOS take down/scrub BOYBLUE so fast? BOYBLUE posts are lucid, but all over the map and  contradictory and disturbing: says he was married but is gay; he had attempted suicide by gunshot and only managed to mangle his mouth; gave and raised thousands for Gifford's campaign, but is on severance from his job and public dole -- but also says he is a lawyer; 'BoyBlue' admits to living in Tucson area; just found out Giffords is a moderate and voted against "his girl Pelosi" for house majority leader. Chillingly, BLUEBOY says after the vote against Pelosi, Jan 7th, 2011 one day before the shooting -- "Giffords is Dead to me."

First, let's be totally clear.  Every sane, honest, ethical, productive human being would rather resolve problems without violence, present company included.

However, what is the appropriate action when a small group of predators gain control of extraordinary powers to abuse and destroy on an astronomical scale... then proceed to do exactly that?

Should we persuade them to stop... the "non-violent way"?  Well, that's been tried for decades, but power-crazed predators only chuckle and turn the screws even harder.  What a surprise.

When non-violent ways do not work... then what?  Just let the predators have absolute, total, 100% control over every one and every thing on earth?  Because that's precisely what they want, precisely what they intend, precisely what they say.

Frankly, I'd love to believe we could just defuse the beast by "going on strike".  You know, just refuse to feed the beast, and let them starve.  Actions like "everyone converts all [fiat] paper assets into real, physical assets, and starts exchanging real, physical goods for real, physical goods".  However, this only works if a large percentage of people adopt the plan.  Today, sadly, 99% of humans are utter morons and/or totally brainwashed and/or authority lovers/obeyers, rendering all such approaches impractical.

Which leaves a stark choice.  Either leave the domain of the predators, or submit to unlimited abuse, or fight.

NO other alternatives exist - those are the only choices.  My choice is to leave, though I see very clearly this is only a temporary solution, since the "domain" the predators totally control will soon include every country on earth.  Thus, in the medium run, only two alternatives exist: allow yourself to be utterly enslaved, or fight.

So the chant that "we must avoid violence" is massive denial, massive wishful thinking... essentially "put off action until it's definitely too late".  Clearly, the "founding fathers" did not wait until KingDoofus gained sufficient foothold in the "colonies" to secure his control.  Why does everyone mumble this rationalization now, when the fate (liberty versus slavery) of the entire planet literally hangs in the balance?

Sat, 01/08/2011 - 23:00 | 860795 trav7777

I predict the government is going to show its teeth now...everyone going forward is going to have to be awfully circumspect about advocating violence.

Especially with the recent focus on this notion of "domestic terrorists" and the DHS's slant on it.  I mean, this guy fits Napolitano's definitions, the gold, the anti-gov writing, the war veteran angles.  The FBI will doubtlessly be poring over all the talk in the blogosphere and on sites such as ZH that feature articles critical of US policy or where membership support such figures as Julian Assange, and where people openly discuss the possible necessity of armed rebellion.

The police don't give a crap about anybody; they defend the system above all else and gleefully follow orders.  I mean that G20 footage from CANADA of all places shows all you need to know.  Those cops happily followed illegal orders from supposed "leaders" and defended themselves with the Nuremberg appeal.

The mantra going forward will be "work within the system if you want change."  "Vote if you want to make a difference."  "Call your representatives."  Hell, you can't even fucking peacefully protest any longer without having G20 shock troops show up and bulldoze you, and the "system" is set up to destroy any attempts at real change.  All you say is true and there appears to be no way out.   Those who go out on a limb as the tip of the spear of change will probably be serving lengthy prison sentences while they wait for this change to manifest.

Top tier.  Precisely correct.  Nobody, and I mean nobody wants innocent bystanders harmed.  We have gotten to the point that every member of administration, congress, courts, Federal Reserve, central banks, mega-corporations and NWO insiders regularly comit high treason and massive crimes against the population of whole nations and planet earth.  Probably RonPaul is the only exception.

The elites regularly, gleefully and intentionally violate the constitution, the highest law of the land, after giving oath to protect and defend it when they accept office --- and nothing happens because the elitist predators totally control the entire [in]-justice system.  That is why only two possibilies exist for those who cannot or will not escape [planet earth].  They are predators, pure and simple.  Peroid.

This guy was probably 10% right and 90% nuts.  I haven't learned his position, but the fact he went nuts at random people in the crowd indicates his simply passed his breaking point and went nuts.  The revolutionary war was nothing like that... careful planning is key, starting with the principle you mentioned (top-to-bottom).

However, in the end, I'm pretty sure nothing will happen, the people will do nothing, the USSA will become a total slave-state, and the rest of the world will follow over the next couple of decades.  Why?  Because humans have rendered clueless morons by parents, school and media, and almost totally disconnected from physical reality.

Game over for the human race.

Right now, the charge that’s gaining the most traction is the claim that health care reform will create “death panels” (in Sarah Palin’s words) that will shuffle the elderly and others off to an early grave. It’s a complete fabrication, of course. The provision requiring that Medicare pay for voluntary end-of-life counseling was introduced by Senator Johnny Isakson, Republican — yes, Republican — of Georgia, who says that it’s “nuts” to claim that it has anything to do with euthanasia.

Sure is allot of anger on this page tonight. Strange the anger is aimed at everyone except the man who spilled fresh blood onto a sidewalk outside a supermarket earlier today.

Krugman, the tool.

And the Arizona Sherriff "It's these people spreading Vitriol that caused this..."

Bullshit.

A nutjob caused this; only the person that pulled the trigger caused this.

Only I have the choice to act upon information and media that I absorb, no one forces me to act.

The notion that people should be mentally controlled leads to those in power and leadership positions treating people as though they are stupid, which lead the leaders to act in corrupt and malfeasant ways, which leads the populace to feel powerless and disenfranchised by the very leaders that are supposed to represent their interests (and not bail out banks and insurance companies and....etc., etc.) which leads to vitriol.

It is so clear but no one seems to see it.

The equivocation, the sophistry, it leads to vitriol.

Peaceful civil disobedience Martin Luther King or Mahatma Ghandi style en masse is what is needed to start.

Is left wing site DAILY KOS's "BOYBLUE" Jared Loughlin? Sure sounds like he is and DK scrubbed his ramblings from January 7th 2011 from their site pronto. Check out the link to the screen grab below. This is about all you can find anymore. Looks like Krugman owes everybody a face palm.

http://americanpatriotscommission.files.wordpress...

Why did DAILY KOS take down/scrub BOYBLUE so fast? BOYBLUE posts are lucid, but all over the map and  contradictory and disturbing: says he was married but is gay; he had attempted suicide by gunshot and only managed to mangle his mouth; gave and raised thousands for Gifford's campaign, but is on severance from his job and public dole -- but is also says he is a lawyer; 'BoyBlue' admits to living in Tucson area; just  found out Giffords is a moderate who voted against "his girl Pelosi" for house majority leader. Chillingly, BLUEBOY says after the vote against Pelosi, Jan 7th, 2011 one day before the shooting -- Giffords "Is Dead to me."

Yes, none of BOYBLUE's ramblings really make sense which is consistent with a nut job. A left wing nut job who lives at the DAILY KOS, in Tucson, AZ around the corner from the grocery store.

And, you know somethings up when Pelosi's temporary new HQ is inside a church for photo-ops invoking God and being prayerful, and saying funny religious things like those vile conservatives. Krugman should be following Pelosi's lead, she's the politician.
