Peter Schiff Launches "Make Schiff Happen" Political Action Committee

Tyler Durden's picture

While this is certainly a good development, "Make Shiff Happen"... is the best name you could come up with Peter? Really?

Just out from Peter Schiff:

Friends & Supporters -

I write with exciting news. In the months since my Senate campaign came to an end, countless Americans have asked me how they can continue the fight for the principles of liberty and personal responsibility. Here is my answer.

This Thursday, at the First-in-the-South Republican Presidential Debate, I will launch my political action committee, the Make Schiff Happen PAC. It’s time to get serious about making changes in DC, and there is no better place to kick off Make Schiff Happen PAC than at the first presidential debate.

I intend to impact campaigns all across the country -- starting now. After witnessing firsthand the incredible support to take back Washington for the ideas that you and I hold dear, the time has come to channel our political energy toward candidates who are our best hope.

Make Schiff Happen aims to be the “gold standard” of fiscally conservative political action committees. It will focus on shrinking the public sector so that the private economy may prosper, and will endorse VIABLE candidates with the economic know-how to save America before it's too late. I've spent years working to secure my credibility; you have my word that I won’t lend it out to just anybody.

Here's a more detailed picture of what I aim to accomplish:

  • Pave the Way for Real Reform: It’s critical that Americans understand the importance of our core objectives: Cut spending, slash taxes, achieve sound money, reduce entitlements, shrink government, lower the debt ceiling, and phase out borrowing. We'll do this through advertising campaigns, social-media outreach and original issue briefs.
  • Elevate & Elect Qualified Candidates: Make Schiff Happen will identify candidates in key races who possess an iron-fisted grip on constitutional governance. Think of an endorsement from our PAC like an emblem certifying authentic gold bullion -- it’s a guarantee you can take to the bank.
  • Provide Clear Policy Prescriptions: Once we've established a network of elected leaders who share our vision for rescuing our economy, we'll distribute specialized “rescue kits”: policy prescriptions complete with supporting research, talking points, and other resources.

Here's how we'll get there:

  • Select Investments: Make Schiff Happen will furnish candidates with financial contributions. As a businessman who created a successful financial brokerage from scratch, I will ensure that every penny we spend will achieve its maximum potential. I'll never throw money at a lost cause or back already well-equipped candidates simply to boost our record. Instead, we'll target candidates and races where select investments promise big dividends.
  • Free Courses at the Schiff School of Advanced Economics: Chosen candidates will be supplied not just with financial backing, but also with critical intellectual ammunition. Between personalized tutorials with me and a steady supply of original research tailored to each candidate, no Make Schiff Happen candidate will ever be ill-prepared for the battles they face.

Opinions of, if it ever came down to it, Ron Paul or Schiff?

Eh?

Both.  Ron Paul can be president, and Schiff can be the young VP that will take over if RP succumbs to old age.

No, he won't choose Rand.

He was asked that question in a recent interview (If I find they video I will post it). He sounded very definitive

I saw that interview, as well.  He didn't give a definitive answer because you have to win the primary before choosing your running mate, it's part of the rules.

Make Schiff Happen. That's great Petey. Like naming your kid Johnny Poop and seeing how often he gets beat up on the playground. Care to sail on my yacht "Little Titanic"? Go for a spin in my airship "Hindenburg, Jr."? I am increasingly covinced that part of the evil empire is a department dedicated to nobbling any possible reasonable alternative to TPTB. One wonders if some "thoughtful stranger" gave Peter the idea for the name. With friends like these...

Sec of State:     Thomas Woods
Sec of Defense:  Jesse Ventura
Sec of Treasury:  Peter Schiff
Attorney General:  Andrew Napolitano (until he can be appointed to SCOTUS)

....and what exactly would change under that 'dream team'?

All I could see is more TALK supporting the dollar, more TALK of busting failing banks and more TALK of getting the deficit under control.

You really are in danger of falling for the same trick for the thousandth time.

Ron Paul talks a good game, but I would bet my life on the fact that once he got into office - suddenly 'things would be different'.

It's time for Americans to stop handing the reigns to others to lead the way and started leading the way themselves.....from the bottom up.

...otherwise you'll be here a decade from now complaining about the irresponsibility of Ron and Peter - and how they promised to tackle the debt problem...but have merely increased it.

Ron Paul is much more useful staying where he is - pointing out the frailties in the Bernanke's plan. He's doing a good job of that - doesn't need to change.

Disagree.  Yes, there are a lot of things that President Paul would need to go through congress but there a lot of things he could do as president , the main one is foreign policy, which if you are keeping track is complete rubbish.  He would end the 'wars' and bring our troops home.

Peter has really lost his luster as a economic commentator and outspoken critic. In recent interviews it almost as if he is doing nothing more than talking book and attempting to tirelessly ride his 'I called the housing bubble' celebrity wave that has faded in the last few years as many of his immenient collapse (scaring his younger audience) have not come to fruition.

I did donate to his campaign but I gave up hope on him after he began sucking up to the Cock Brothers and buddying up with the fake 'Tea Party Express' wing of the movement. I suppose as libertarian he only views it as looking out for self-interest, but AGAIN it has caused him to muddle his message and lose focus on the important issues like ENDING THE FED and ending the Wars in the middle-east and domestically on drugs.

I prefer Jim Rogers and Marc Faber. Especially Faber as he provides 'market timing' information and specific asset recommendations. (Both of them predicted the correction in silver, thankfully I took there advice, waited and BTFD :)

I share your sentiments exactly.  I do like Peter, but he's obnoxious and arrogant at times, I think he would develop a bigger following if he showed some humility, after all, it wasnt "him" that predicted the housing bubble, it was an economic philosophy he studied, not some new invention.

I cannot disagree with what you're saying, but in the bigger view Peter has nothing new to say as he already said it all.

And he placed his clients (if they really listened to him) in a position to ride out the storm, in some physical PMs and mainly outside of the USD. He is not a trader type, so he will advise to hold course and maybe BTFD in silver instead of trading swings. Faber is more the trader and while I also prefer his talk a bit over Peter's, I do not feel comfortable trying to time markets. Big money is only made over the longer term without excessive risk, in my opinion.

I don't hold CEO's as primarily responsible for the intricacies of their firms operating mechanics.  However, by stepping into the fight club of the political area, a CEO inherently accepts responsibility for the entirety of the actions of the company he leads.  When EuroPacific changed Custody and Clearing providers from Pershing to Fidelity, EuroPacific IRA account holders' options for the currency of uninvested funds in their retirement accounts was reduced to USD, and only USD.

I find it hypocritical when a firm whose raison'detre is to offer its clients direct access to foreign exchanges and foreign investment vehicles forces its clients to store dry powder in US domestic brand fiat.  If I were interested that sort of hypocrisy in the name of increased operating efficiency or increased customer product offerings, I would purchase financial services from Jamie and his ilk, who sell it at discount to EuroPacific.  In the meantime, Schiff can feel free to deduct the sizeable IRA commissions I pay to his firm in Schiff-for-bains fiat from his paycheck, and consider that my donation to his PAC.

I am not aware of the IRA delicacies, as I decided long time ago never to put money in any gov't retirement scheme if I can avoid it.

But as a normal EuroPac account holder I am aware it is not the ideal place to hold cash - I use an online broker to keep some funds in CAD.
I also asked once if I could keep my EuroPac cash outside any MoneyMarket fund (I'd actually love to hold it so much outside the system it cannot even be sweep'ed) ... and got a vague non-committing answer only.

It's peculiar to their IRA's, but something that they should have been noticed and addressed before the transition the Fidelity transition.  Since I'm a Swiss resident I have basically infinite options for non-IRA accounts, but EuroPacific was the best IRA I could find.

When they were using Pershing, I was able to keep bank cash blances (non-MM) divided between various currencies CHF, AUD, & CAD in an IRA.  I don't think EuroPacific would want to promote a cash option because they should be receiving a fee from the MM fund manager for placing the funds with them (50-80 bps was normal ten years ago), and with a cash option- they don't collect any fee from a fund manager.

I don't know about non-IRA changes since Fidelity, but I would push them for an answer, as I would assume that after the 2008 credit freeze they made sure to have some offering available for those that eschew MM funds, but it would definitely be a more expensive option than an online broker.

What the fuck are you talking about?

Peter Schiff has bigger balls and is more aggressively outspoken than Jim Rogers has EVER been. Not to mention Peter does MANY times more media appearances, has a radio show, and video blog. What does Jim do? The occassional stupid interview where keeps repeating that he has a commodities fund?

And Marc Faber is a complete economic rambler.

Peter Schiff is the ONLY one in today's modern world that can powerful deliver a concise statement with actual emotional urgency!

Jim Rogers has called for an END to the Federal Reserve system on CNBC, Bloomberg, Fox, etc.

Peter Schiff, while a harsh critic, has never gone so far calling for the END of the unconstitutional central bank.

Here is a good example (this is as far as he ever goes): http://youtu.be/IwaHXKyTbHQ

Here is an example of Jimmy explicitly calling for an end of the Fed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvycPv7aay4

That's because Schiff isn't dumb, and knows that an end to the Fed would in real life mean it's replaced not by hard money, but by fiat issued directly by the Treasury at the direction of Congress.  In other words, 100% of the deficit monetized 100% of the time with nothing ever putting a brake on anything, instead of the last century of some of the debt monetized some of the time with the discipline of high interest rates occasionally slowing things down.  Unlike a lot of libertarians, Schiff is quite capable of imagining things that would be worse than the status quo...such as the idiots in Congress being directly responsible for managing the currency.

"Make Shiff happen"?

Naughty Tyler, I think it should have been "Make Schiff happen" - good to know he has a sense of humour though!

Schiff is an idiot - he's just another one of those "I saw all this coming back in..." tribal loonies.

He saw nothing, he sees nothing, there were many before him and not many after him.

The creativity behind the name 'make shiff happen' is a good reflection on his dullard abilities.

I prefer Celente - more accurate, more reliable and most of all - less driven by political desires.

What the fuck are you talking about?

He's been SCREAMING into cameras for a decade straight about solving economic problems.

Gerald Celente is a "tough guy" with never-ending catch phrases. I'm over it.

"Gold 2000" - Really? Only 2000? GREAT FORECAST!!!!

Peter should have thought ahead a move or too...

He's given his opponents better slogans:

Don't Shiff yourself!

Nothing but the truth, No Shiff.

That Shiff won't float.

Need I go on?

I'm tempted to start a PAC called Sherlock, for no other reason than to use the slogan:

No Schiff, Sherlock.

THIS IS AN INTERESTING DEVELOPMENT AND YOU KNOW IT.

We're ALL going to be watching to see what happens. Stop trying to act like you don't like him.

AT LEAST HE'S DOING SOMETHING...

...Pooling resources, bringing intelligence together, stirring up movement...

This is exactly what we want to see happen. And if you don't realize that, then you're a piece of fucking Schiff.

"Oh no, I don't like him because he's too self-interested...after all we can't have a true capitalist making waves...I'd rather listen to Marc Faber and Jim Rogers do the occassional interview and then do absolutely nothing else whatsoever."
