This is completely unrelated to anything financial, but since financial news is now extinct, at worst irrelevant, and at best, upside-down, might as well have a laugh...

"Once someone" - that someone will be based in McLean, Virginia as opposed to Afpak, Yemen or Somalia.  The American people should be afraid, very afraid, of their own government.

OHI,

I grew up in Northern Ireland, therefore, I know very well what a police state looks like.  MI5 now have 400+ officers in NI, they took over intelligence operations from the local police service.  Since they arrived 'terrorist' attacks have been on the increase (surprise, surprise).  MI5 are also implicated in a recent murder in NI - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-11641868

If any one from MI5 is reading this - please, fuck off out of Northern Ireland and allow the people to live in peace.  I would rather die on my feet than live on my knees.

Aficionados of Edward Luttwak (yes, another Jew) like to make the sort of assertion that the civil populous can not ultimately win against a modern state, and that the state can always win, if it wants to. That protest is futile.

Not so. The IRA showed that the State can be forced to negociated settlement.

They finally managed it by setting off some very large truck bombs in London, in the mid-1990s, and these were real game-changers, especially the one they set-off in London’s Financial District in 1993.

Instantly the British Govt became very interested in negotiation with the IRA, because now the problem had metastasized;

1) It was in London, not in Northern Ireland.

2) It revealed profound the vulnerability of English cities and ended indifference.

3) The financial banking elite were specifically targeted.

4) It hit the national hip-pocket nerve with a hammer.

5) It was mortifyingly embarrassing internationally.

6) Negotiation was the only realistic and reliable means to keep it from repeating and escalating.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/b/b1/IRA_Bishopsgate.JPG

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1993_Bishopsgate_bombing

And when the negotiations stalled the IRA gave them another reminder of what was at stake;

http://news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/dates/stories/february/10/newsid_2539000/2539265.stm

There are a LOT of people coming back from foreign wars with the sort of knowledge needed if a more peaceful means of reining-in the excesses of the pig-men is not forthcoming.

Why do you think TPTB are so worried about the ‘home-grown’ variety, to the extent of expanding their thuggish high-handed “Homeland Security” corps, and essentially ‘legalizing’ state torture, assassination and every imaginable form of coercion of the individual, and the ignoring of rights, plus the growth of control-freak ‘Police’, plus a multitude of private-security twats, who make absolutely nothing more ‘secure’ than it was before their advent?

On the contrary!

You can default and withdraw your money en-masse, but my suspicion is they will do the same back, and escalate again. Wwithhold money and resources. They already do it, internationally, in the form of trade sanctions, so why not domestically?

Oh, that’s right, they already do that as well.

And as that plays out you will see some financial building’s insides on their outsides, and some snob-hill residences re-decorated. That is what it will take. Only when the Govt and the police and the military realize they can't stop it any other way, will they say no to the pig-men.

Just drive. Even if you have to rent a car.

Starve the beasts.

Fri, 11/19/2010 - 00:43 | 740248 Howard_Beale
Howard_Beale's picture

Exactly. You get to bring all you need with no paying for your damn luggage and weight limitations, you can even pack your espresso machine if you please. Bring everything you need in your vehicle and more.

It's cheaper than flying if you have an efficient car. It's more enjoyable even it takes two or three days because you don't have to be subjected to being treated like a sub-human. You can rock out in the car and put headphones on the kids if that is a concern. And you have a vehicle when you arrive with everything you need. Unless it is NY to LA, then hit the road and have a real National Lampoon family vacation and if you are single or married, then it's a no brainer.

Starve the beasts indeed. Corporate travelers can enjoy the treatment of 25% overbooking. No one needs to get on a plane for less than a 1200 mile drive where they will have to rent a car. Simple economic sense.

Just stopping won't have maximum impact.

If you can possibly do it, what I'd suggest is refusing to consent to the TSA search and then demanding a refund from the airline.  Be sure to tell them why.

As soon as the government-subsidized airline industry starts feeling the pain of the federally-overseen security policy, this problem should correct itself toot-sweet.

If we just don't buy tickets, they'll just think we're all too broke to fly.  (That may be largely true.)

Since it would be a no-brainer for a suicide bomber to detonate amid the thousands standing in line to go through security during the busiest times of the day or week, and since shopping malls and the like would also be no-brainers for them, I've decided that al Qaida et al. are perfectly content to sit back and watch American destroy itself as it is now doing.

The terrorists have already won, in other words -- never mind that 9/11 was simply "blowback"(http://www.onpower.org/foreign_blowback.html) -- so why go to any more trouble?

Hi.  We're from the TSA and we've received an alert for suspects amongst illegal immigrants along the highway in this area.  We've cordoned off this location to set up a mobile scanning kiosk.  We need to conduct random checks of traffic.  Please step out of your vehicle and come over and place your feet on the footprints so we can scan you.  Thank you.  We've gotten a positive.  We'll need to have you proceed to the privacy pat-down enclosure behind that tree.

I've gave up flying to any where in the USA 5 years ago. I'd rather drive even if it takes days extra to get where I'm going. It wasn't worth the hassle five years ago

and it sure isn't worth it now. I don't even think I want to leave the US on a plane unless it is to escape. Do they grope you if you take a boat?

They're beginning to set up groping stations in Greyhound terminals. NYC is considering the same for the ferry services.

Welcome to the brave new world. What's it gonna take people, what's it gonna take?

Yes. Step one: everybody is guilty of something and therefore potentially subject to arrest at any moment. Like the heart plugs in the David Lynch version of Dune.

As an ex-airline captain with 15,000 hours and over 15 years banging around airports I assure you that this will NOT make the airlines any safer.

Janet Napalatano is a fucking MORON. Michael Chertoff is a corporate whore and so is Obama. Rapascan is a huge contributer.

This country has gone to the dogs. These morons should be tried for treason. Assholes. By the way a TSA screener at Logan (BOS) is wanted on child sexual assault charges. These fucking TSA morons can't even screen the mollesters they hire to molest ourselves, and our family.

Sick disgusting bastards. This is NOT a free America.

TSA's employee of the decade

http://www.winthroptranscript.com/2010/03/04/winthrop-man-sought-in-connection-with-child-rape-case/

Winthrop Police were searching this week for 45-year old Sean Shanahan, most recently of 26 Shirley Street apartment #3 on five charges including two counts of statutory rape, two counts of enticing a child and one count of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, after the alleged victim’s parents reported finding disturbing and explicit text messages on the child’s cell phone.

“This individual (Shanahan) is someone who was familiar with the child,” explained Police Chief Terrence Delehanty. “It appears that this case began with a series of text messages and then progressed to other activities that included the statutory rape charges.”

Shanahan, a Transportation Security Administration employee at Logan Airport, has not appeared at his job in several days and has also not been back to his apartment on Shirley Street, following an initial search of his residence by police, which resulted in the confiscation of a computer and cell phone from his home.

My kids  San Francisco based uncle is very generously treating them a trip to USA (from New Zealand)next year...or he intended to. But guess what?...it ain't goin' to happen. NO WAY am I letting my kids anywhere near US airports. It is a fucking disgrace...the sheeple of America deserve what they get. Post the sham scam that was 9/11, you guys have lived under total state control (Patriot Act, Homeland Security Act ) as the whole 9/11 obscenity intended. Isn't there a line in your National Anthem that goes :..."and the land of the free"?...well, it need's changing

PS : I so support the motivated American citizen (ie present company) in their bitter battle with totalitarian, sociopathic evil.

Really, isn't it time we got rid of all this PC crap and realized we just need to keep a really close eye on swarthy Middle-eastern looking types trying to get on planes, especially if they are sweating, have one way tickets, are clutching Apple iQuirans (with the new "Which Way Is Mecca" app), and mumbling semi-incoherently about virgins and doe-eyed boys?

Wouldn't that save a boatload of money, time and aggravation? How hard is this?
