Portugal Propaganda Video Of The Day, Or Why "We Don't Need You To Help Us Help Ourselves"
Now that Greece and Europe are hanging on by a thread with relations frayed beyond any chance of reconciliation, all eyes move to Portugal which will soon see "speculative" articles written about it by Der Spiegel as Europe's bloodlust moves from one PIIGy to another. Below we present Portugal attempt to preempt popular hatred of being on the bailout wagon by releasing what can only be described as the most pathetic, see thru propaganda video conceivable.

So what is the time line of how/when Finland vetos bailouts?
Decision should come out on wednesday.
and after all that it's not in Portuguese is it.
It's narrated in....English.
Says it all...
and bragging about how many natives have left the country? Doesn't sound like a place people want to stay, almost sounds like people are fleeing.
Looks like a lovely place to visit though.
One funny part of this is that the video was paid for with money from the municipality of Cascais which is insolvent, has had its bonds rated as junk, and used fiat credit to pay for this.
Wonderful.
yes the focus is assuredly on past achievements and not on current under-achievement (ie. how the current Portugese arrived at bankruptcy)
...the stark contrast between historical heroes and current absolute zeroes is not the smartest thing to highlight ...boy are these guys dumb!
Salted cod?
The went to the salted cod? That's desperate.
Never go full salted cod.
I see your salted Cod and raise you a custard tart. Yes , a fucking custard tart. The inventor of said tart must be so proud...
I see your custard tart and raise a box of rosé
However, you should know:
We manufacture rosé
We sell rosé
But we don't drink rosé
Wow. You mean Portugal really isn't part of Spain???
Well obviously it is in reality. Like province of Spain. Same way Scotland is really a province of England but they like to think they are not.
Well obviously you've never been there. And you could have paid more attention in history class. Portugal is one of the oldest nations in Europe. It even predates Spain, so your comparison with Scotland is disingenuous at best. Don't remember hearing about the Scottish empire much in school. But maybe I was asleep. And yes the whole EU is f*cked. But so is the US, UK and japan. They just won't admit it yet.
It's not a pretty story.
Basically, Portugal is to the kingdom of Spain as Austria is to Bismarck's (and modern) Germany, IIRC.
Funny, that.
A "box" of rose?
yesh...put it in the fridge...got a little built-in tap on it; don't shop Walmart much, do ya?
i'll have to remember this one...
I grew up in a country with a third of the population being Portuguese. There has been two or three times, nevertheless, where I could not avoid eating it.
slewie, upon becoming engaged to a young princess of italian heritage, met baccala. so, i couldn't avoid it, either!
finally after about a month, the family elders were full-tilt against the pi-rat, but i knew it wasn't b/c i was scottish/irish/viking; they had a recessive blue-eyed gene on the mother's side and i kept telling them i was the key to a blue-eyed grandchild. it was to create doubt in the mind of the princess and make me take on the whole freaking family, which was fun!
so about the third time they tried to put the salted cod on me, so we could commune w/ palermo, i refused, drank 1/2 bottle of sambuca, and started chain-smoking at the table.
there is a last time for everything!
Ep.1? Dear god. I've read more interesting facts off snapple caps.
You don't just have to be Portuguese to be embarrassed by that video. The "spin" reeks of utter panic and desperation now.
A tad heavy on the "we did this" and "we did that".
More cell phones you Portuguese Bitchez...
Nokia a buy? Robo?
They invented the prepaid card and it's ability to allow you to count serveral customers several times.
Being Portuguese I completely agree with the point of this article.
All you really need to know about Portugal is this:
We had 16 years of socialism. The socialist that ruled for the last 6 years completely bankrupted the country He rose by himself public debt by about 50% of GDP in 6 years. Still, around 35% of the electorate intends to vote for this exact same criminal and elect him again.
Portugal does not deserve a bailout, they deserve to face the consequences of their political choices.
Disgusting -- people deserve the exact level of tyranny they are willing to put up with.
I guess there is strength in numbers as the US, Japan, and the PIGS are basically in the same boat. Sucks to be us - group BANKSTER excorcism needed
don't forget the demonic nannies!
once they realize we are up against the roths & mossad, even the nannies will join our struggle.
fight demons w/ demons!
Pretty sad....more reasons to take the gold reserves as a collateral.
If a nation is so great, why do they need to borrow so much?
Bur for all this noise, Spain is the Key to the EU. It is via spain, even if not by a default but even a massive, needed re-structuring that the real fall of the dominoes into the heart of the EU will begin.
NATO will be sub-sumed into a CATO (Cross Atlantic treaty Org.) as they blunder up Libya and the ME in general.
The EU will look anew perhaps, come end 2011.
But my instinct says Gaia will take care of these silly distractions for us well before then.

Nice post at your site, ORI! I'll enjoy following up on the links this Sunday afternoon.
Are you taking this stuff seriously: http://www.activistpost.com/2011/05/bad-news-from-nasa-proof-that-comet.... ?
Thanks Bob. And while that link did nto open, I know the story.
I think we are reaching a time when "disclosure" of all sorts is going to increase geometrically. All about keeping us imbalanced. Once you understand NASA's tru nature, well exposed by the Enterprise Mission and the like, stories like this aren't earth0shattering anymore.
They are hiding a lot more than they let on though.
ORI
That Salted cod is worth 500 billion easy!
Just imagine we would have to live without it...
What's COD. Some kind of credit obligation default.
It's a Cape, defiled by the presence of Kennedys.
Your explanation smells fishy.
I though they just killed cod for their liver oil to prevent heart disease. Or were those really just plastic I can't believe it's not cod liver oil.
Why do these things always have a "60% of Americans think..." statement? Are they trying to insinuate that American citizenry are dumb/clueless or something?
In totally unrelated news:
NBC News poll: Nearly two-thirds of Americans support decision not to release bin Laden death photos
....and nearly half of the people in Detroit can't read
http://detroit.cbslocal.com/2011/05/04/report-nearly-half-of-detroiters-cant-read/
Yeah, but they have "above average levels of self-esteem".
Not when they run out of crack.
You can't eat self-esteem, above-average or not! :>D
The best thing of course is that all this PR stuff helps to kill the sociopathic European dream. Nothing against Greek, Portuguese, anyone personally. The leaking ship just needs to be abandoned.
http://www.thedailybell.com/2227/Greek-Loan-Extensions-to-Punch-Hole-in-EU.html
It is all fraud and deception all of the time now.
See, what we Germans have to deal with all day ? ;)
When Greece defaults, and they will, Germans are going to get exactly what is coming to them.
Brits, brilliant move keeping the Pound.
Yeah alot of Paper will be burned. But those who create real values will always end up on the top and thats not Britain.
Ouch.
Right, Poor Germany. It has to bailout all the weaker countries (eventually pretty much all of them) and get nothing in return. How about you use a little skepticism and don't just buy the merkel narrative that you've been fed. How about you see it this way. Germany is the luckiest of them all. Specially German banks, that are indirectly being bailed out by the german taxpayer while those dastardly PIIGS take all the easy blame. Unfortunately reality isn't as simple as a bankster led German PR narrative would have us believe. Bottom line? Net net Germany has been a major beneficiary from the EU, and with the euro they not only get a strong currency (ok, so far) but a great consumer market for their exports with no currency risk. Who do you think lent the rest of the EU the money to buy their BMWs? And who has reintegrated into the international community what was 60 years ago a broken, impoverished pariah state that gave us such wonderful contributions as sauerkraut and hitler. They even have their army deployed abroad again after all these years. I'll take the custard tarts and that little thing called globalization the Portuguese gave us over Germany's contributions to the world anyday. Anyone who buys the poor Germany narrative really isn't seeing the big picture.
Actually, it was that Austria that gave us Hitler...
...and I kinda like the taste of Sauerkraut.
As far as I can see, German people value education, work ethic, and have a healthy distrust for debt based money - plus they drink beer out of those 1 litre steins which are much bigger than a pint glass :)
Sauerkraut is a plagiarized, run down, non-spicy kimchi for pussies.
Real men eat spicy kimchi.
Your assuming to much here. First of all Merkels Narrative is to bailout anybody and anything, she might talk popular stuff but look at what she is actually DOING.
Second, im completly OK with german Banks not getting there money back. Im OK with any Bank not getting any money at all. Im OK with Reboot. What im not OK with is that other european countries EXPECT US and others to pay the Bills THEY created in the first place. Im not familiar with BMW Dealers but i dont think they sell cars at gunpoint. Does responsibility for ones self have any meaning anymore ? And why arent the germans in debt like some of the others -maybe they decided to keep the old Beamer a while longer instead of financing a new one with money they dont have. Remember the Euro ment a real Income loss for German population in the last 10 years while real wages went up in most other countries. Remember the Term "Sick Man of Europe"? Maybe German wages just reflected what was possible and others just printed money like wild now blaiming Germany not have played the same game of Illusion.
Hi TK7936,
Yes, you are right in many of your points, but you forget one key point.
If reboot were to happen (I also am OK with it since I think it's inevitable anyway), then we would likely be headed towards another war in europe.
The EU experiment was a good idea but, like most things in life, it tried to go too far, and now there's no stopping it. If it stops (no bailouts), it collapses.
And no there are no inocents in this. German banks are as much to blame as the periphery countries. Their greed led them to ignore basic risk management and sponsor the friendly politicians (remember Schroeder? I'm sure his cushy Nord Stream appointment is really good for Germany...). And I do seem to recall Germany (and France) exceeding the Maastricht limits a few years ago, although when the big boys cheat the rules get suspended, right? Great example they set for the rest of the EU. Funny how no one seems to talk about this. Another more recent example? The threats and tantrums some German officials publicly aired because their precious Landesbanks would be shown to be insolvent with the new EU stress tests. Need I say more?
In conclusion, yes it bothers me too that everyone now expects a bailout. But blaming only the indebted countries is a ridiculous and simple minded narrative that serves the interests of the big boys in Berlin and Paris. It's the same old tune: distract the peasantry by having them fight each other while the banksters slip away with the loot. The grand EU experiment was a joint affair with plenty of blame to go round, including the main players like Germany and France. To pretend otherwise is simply intelectual dishonesty.
I dont think War is even possibile on a largeer scale in europe -several European Nations just went to War against a 2nd World country (Lybia) and ran out of amunition in 3 weeks. Military these days is a buisness, there is no real potency to achieve any goals there. And even if it were so -what could a Army collect that would pay back all the debt ? There isnt that much there. The EU is here to stay, the Euro might not, but the path to colapse is far away, further than most think. Just consider the Euro turning into a Lira... not nice but it worked decades in Italy. You think EU Leaders wont push us down that path ? Think again. We can fall very far down. As for Risk Management, i agree to an extend but dont forget -Greek Numbers were fraudelent. They lied intentionally AND with the help of Goldman Sachs not Deutsche Bank who can only be blamed for beeing to Naiv.
If this little propaganda piece fails, how about a complimentary blow-job gift card for every Finn traveling to Portugal this summer.
That might have a better chance of working.
I just put this anyone to every web page in Finland, I think people ought to see how much we actually owe to Portugal, as Portuguese put it.."hope you honor your obligation"....
Everyone now seeing their alrealy world record taxes go even higher are of course delighted to hear that in the center of our civilization, there will not be pressure hike taxes or cut anything meaningfully. Some are more equal that others.
Finland to Portugal:
Oh yeah? You are still broke.
I guess when your country is desperate, you have to turn to advertisement to get the sheeple back on board. That, or give them some X Factor or a new I-phone to shut them up for a while longer.
Time is running out for the entire ponzi to come crashing down, we are days away, not weeks, or months, but DAYS away from collapse.
The last scene is humbling
lol. This video is bogus.
Arigato.
It is often suggested that the Japanese word arigat? derives from the Portuguese obrigado, both of which mean "Thank you," but this is demonstrably false. The Japanese phrase arigat?is a shortened form of arigat? gozaimasu, meaning "Thank you". This is a form of an adjective, arigatai, for which written records exist dating back to the Man'y?sh?, well before Japanese contact with Portugal.
But untrue. The Portuguese help never reached Finland in time and the shortage was not about food. They would have needed weapons.
"More world titles than anyone in a sport no longer played elsewhere in the world...hockey on roller blades."
I know that there must exist the perfect (sarcastic) response to this claim, but I have given myself a headache trying to formulate it...help!
probably something along the lines of: it's pretty easy to get laid if you count your hand..
I just puked a bit in my mouth... Comparing the help to Finnland while it was assaulted by one of the most vile dictatators in the historiy of the planet to the "fix our spoiled overspending" bailout they need (dot really know or care if they actually requested it) is a bit too much for me...
just make a Hilter video next time, more hits
ROFL this is a perfect example of how sophistry is used to wrongfully change viewpoints.
Instead of facts, they use little useless facts, that do nothing to actually address the question of whether or not Portugal is insolvent, it just muddies the water by bringing up bullshit to skirt the issue.
Portugal must be solvent, because it has never had a eurovision winner?
Give me a fucking break.
Sophistry...breakfast of losers. (so eaten up a few billion times a day)
Glass-Steagall
They do make wonderful wine there, and not just Port. Reds from the Douro and Alentejo, Alvarinho and Vinho Verde from the north for whites...
Gosh what an inspiring achievement this video is. I can't think of a better way to spend German taxpayers' money.
What's their point?
Yeah, but can you balance a checkbook?
Thank god for the socialists to get the EU out of this mess - sorry, I said out, I ment IN (what do you think Gordon ?)
So a few points:
* Portugal was not invaded by Napolean because it got bailed out (by the English Army), looks like another English (financial) bailout is coming...
* Cod is quite expensive now in the UK - may be we could exchange some unsalted cod for some of Osbornes rubber pound notes - fish and chips all round.
* Why stop at eating the whole pig. Why not become part of a PIIG that could eat the whole of the EU
* If Portugal is the "good bit" of Ibera, Spain must be in really poor shape, and the EU in massive trouble.
* At no point in the video does it say "we are definately not bankrupt". A no "denial" denial usually means that the thing being denied cannot be denied.
* Given the paymasters are German, is there a German language version of this video ?
No. Germans only make things of real value.
"The Portugese" make the video in German, to send to their (future) paymasters (and asset owners and bossman) - Duh !
* Portugal was not invaded by Napolean because it got bailed out (by the English Army), looks like another English (financial) bailout is coming...
Kind of, but not quite. Portugal was invaded 3 times and Napoleon even had his man Junot self crowned as the new ruler of Portugal. But the Portuguese royal family fled to Brazil with the Brits. You think England did this out of the purity of it's heart (bailout as you imply)? Hardly. The uk protected it's strategic port on mainland Europe out of it's own interests, obviously. Had Portugal turned to Napoleon instead of Wellington, history would have turned out quite differently. The UK would be speaking French and there would be no British royal family.
Instead, the Brits got port wine, textiles, cork, tungsten and a generous entry into this little thing called Brazil, along with preferential tariffs, high interest and a bunch of other goodies. Portugal was still a wealthy kingdom back then (just think of all that brazilian gold). After napoleon and the british "friendly helping hand" they basically lost it all. It's been all downhill since then.
But of course your simple bailout narrative is much easier and nicer to remember, right?
It's been all downhill because you don't have any colonies left to rape and plunder.
How do you feel being raped and plundered for a change?
Was that even a serious comment? You seem (ed) rather more intelligent than to spout the politically correct evil imperialists line, but maybe I was being too generous with your limited brain capacity.

And the fins replied....
"We could mock you, but..." uh huh.
Set it to "Finlandia", bro.
Nice.
I would have played down the Prez with a Nobel Prize though.... think thats been devalued to rat shit recently.
Finland: Filling in as the globe's bitch for half a millennia.
I am Chumbawamba.
P.S. I can't believe they claimed Linux. Linus Torvalds lives in the Silicon Valley.
Yeah, even my buddy in Sweden says the Finnish babes are hot and have cute accents to boot.
Yeah, even my buddy in Sweden says the Finnish babes are hot and have cute accents to boot.
Here's what they really need: a hilarious animation (as seen on maxkeiser.com) exhorting folks to get even against the banksters and government:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tOrI6uqS-vk
I INVENTED THE PIANO KEY NECKTIE!!!
count_de_monee - I write in jest... a few more points though...
* The UK has a few "balance the budget" issues recently of its own (thanks to Gordon Brown). Britain bailing out anyone is like the one eyed helping the blind. Quantum loan anyone ?
* The video, while it has some interesting facts about Portugal is desperate. The point is that debt denial - "you could not possibly mean us" is an EU wide sham, not just Portugal.
* The EU has created a socialist super structure that has feulled unsustainable demand (from Govenment at all levels) and funded it with cheap interest rates and German productivity. The Germans have collaborated with this so to export all their goods. Now they are stuck with pay up or face competition once rebalancing kicks in. Refer to Nigel Farage.
* In addition, a whole bunch of "social chapter" regs have killed off productivity right when the internet and trade has gone global creating wage deflation in the western world. If the politicians want to make videos, they should communicate clearly this truth to the wider population, however unpopular.
* In the UK, we at least have a Government willing to cut hard (or in reality increase the nominal spending below the rate of inflation / growth rate, its not actually a cut in nominal terms). However UK population "does not believe" how bad the economic times really are.
* Finally, I think there is a generational angle on all this. In the UK, Blair + Brown got elected on a third way ticket. The people who voted them in were the UK version of the boomers, property owners, more than halfway through a career with pension entitlements and morgages paid off. The government effectively encouraged a housing boom, then pushed forward when past due by frigging the rules govening interest rates. The pumped the country with migrants to suppress wages (the young) and flooded the country with immigrant works to keep wages down (for the younger generations). This sustained massive consumption secured against their houses. They went shopping basically and gorged on cheap chinese goods courtesy of Tescos. Now, its over, and the mess is going to take 25 years to clear up.
zippy_uk,
I know you write in jest and unfortunately I agree with your points.
I've been saying the same thing for years now.
And the video, more than intended to influence the Finns, I believe was designed more for domestic consumption. Remember there's an election on in Portugal and portuguese self-esteem has hit a new low.
All you need to know regarding Portugal is this:
- a once great people did spectacular things (cape of good hope, magellan, da gama, etc) and brought globalization to the western world.
- for the past 200 years or so they've been in accelerated decline.
- for the last 36 years they've lived in a socialist nightmare led by a corrupt mafia of politicians that have enriched themselves (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nmIcGdlZiM). The current socialist PM Socrates, although he comes from a humble background, now wears Armani suits and shops at Rodeo Drive. See http://fjsantos.files.wordpress.com/2009/06/clientes.jpg?w=500&h=280.
As Thatcher used to say: "Socialism's great until you run out of other people's money"
The EU has now run out of other people's money so there's really only 2 options left:
1) Print baby. Follow the Fed's march towards hyperinflation.
2) Default. Blow up the euro, thus the EU, thus another war in Europe.
None of these are pretty, but I suspect they'll go with 1.
And regarding Portugal, yes they deserve their current predicament. In the last elections in 2009 the leader of the opposition at the time warned that the socialists out of control spending would lead to bankruptcy. What happened? She (yes a woman) was branded a hysterical pessimist by the media and "intelligent Lisbon opinion" (sic) and the current corrupt PM won reelection and promptly delivered Portugal into bankruptcy. And now, to add insult to injury, polls show that he may win re-election again!
It's hopeless right now given how stupid the people are and how manipulated they are by the corrupt media. I'm sure it's surely a coincidence but the few newspapers and TV channels that criticised the socialists in the past have either been bought out (using state owned or influenced companies as proxies), the journalists "reassigned" or the editorial tone has changed.
This isn't about Portugal or Greece or Ireland. They are merely the canaries in the coalmine. The complete breakdown of morality and ethics, the capturing of all democratic institutions by the financial powers, the ilusion of an easy fiat credit based life and the blatant corruption in the political class has infected all of the western world and its consequences are beginning to be felt now.
It will all end very badly, as most of you already know.
By the way, I told everyone here Portugal was bankrupt and would be bailed out about 1 year ago, and I repeated the predictions last fall. So it's hardly a surprise to anyone well informed.
Interesting the armarni suits thing - we obviously had the MPs expenses scandal in the UK. Notably Hazel Blears (Labour, so called working mans party) was going around telling everyone there was nothing wrong with her going around with £500 designer hand bags. Of course, thats because it was on the tax payer.
GLOBALLY, we have not had a fincial crisis, but a VALUES crisis resulting in the wrong people in charge of which the financial crisis is but a by product.
No moving on untill everyone in charge gets replaced with those who have better values, never mind politics or religion.
Fritz,
have u heard about Marshall plan?
So STFU and send us the money!!!
The Marshall Plan
A phone card? Wholly shit, don't fuck with them, they have phone cards.
Never won a/an Eurovision song contest? That's a big plus.
Desespero, putas!
