Presenting The Fed's Slogan: "Making It Harder To Feed Your Family For 98 Years And Counting"

Tyler Durden's picture

One of the side effects of the overarching "price stability" mandate of the Fed, it turns out, is the fact that since its inception, food and pretty much all other commodity prices have, well, gone up non stop.

All of this, of course, is courtesy of the relentless loss of dollar purchasing power, shown below on a log scale. At this rate, the dollar will have negative purchasing power in under 10 years.

And, no, sorry exporting inflation to China (thank you 50 years of globalization and economic hitmen) to keep the price of everything in the core inflation bucket low ain't gonna cut it anymore. Other countries don't need US debt any more - they have enough of their own.

"The panel agreed to finish $600 billion of Treasury purchases in June and said surging commodity prices will probably have a transitory effect on inflation."

As Slick Willie will tell you, it depends on what the definition of is is.  For all of you at home, here is the definition of transitory from the mind of Benny Fuck-Bucks Bernanke -

tran·si·to·ry/?transi?tôr?/ -

adjective /?transi?tôr?/  /?tranzi-/

1. A permanent transfer of wealth to those well connected at the expense of everyone else.

2. Having the lasting effect of benefitting the few at the expense of many.

They've decided that we can't handle transparency, so will end the Treasury purchases and begin the next transitory phase.

What is also transitory seems to be economic activity. I am stunned by the lack of business activity so far this year. Economic indicators seem to support this.

Sorry, all of this inflation since the creation of the Fed is just transitory.

Bob Pisani just explained the runup in equities by pointing out that there was a big "buy program" in effect right around 3pm.  He knew because the volume in some ETFs spiked and the whole market followed to the upside.  Fucking priceless.  The Fed is just one big ass "buy program," no, make that "print program."

And the very architects of supply-side aka Reaganomics are now vocal about how it sowed the seeds of failure that we are reaping today: export inflation to China along with the industrial and manufacturing base and you can guess that it's not going to end well. Give incentives for Wall Street to turn into a carnival and you can guess the outcome. Let rich and powerful people get huge breaks while burdening the middle class and you might have an idea where that's headed.

Get ready: Biflation (aka inflationary depression) is here to stay. The cost of living and doing business will rise relentlessly while net worth and incomes decline. The cost of working combined with diminishing advancement opportunities and social mobility will provide a huge headwind.

In a word, everything you earn you will have to spend at the company store.

Lotsa Luck.

I honestly believe that he had the best of intentions, albeit short-sighted and without any long term vision besides his own version of "Hope". From 1981 on it was always "oh let's just stimulate this economy one more time....the very very last one....and then it'll take off on it's merry way". It was exactly like getting hooked on drugs. And China  (and others) were all too happy to give us more rope to hang ourselves with.

Stew doesn't produce scum. Its called flavor.

Edward Abbey never had good stew.

Society is like bread if its tossed out in the street its still bread but becomes less edible by the day.

That should be: "Making It Harder To Put Food On Your Family" to echo the great words of one of the two worst presidents in US history, both from Texas BTW.

No matter what the fundamentals tomorrow the SPY will hit 134 on no volume.  Why, because on pre holiday no volume days the hedgies will just hit the buy button until it happens.  How else does GS have $100 million profit days every 3 trading days.

True dat.  It's like the Fed is toying with people, baiting them into taking on short positions and then blowing them out of the water on 0 volume runups.

I wonder how every single firm can have perfect or near perfect quarters?  Who loses money?  Retail investors?  I don't think they invest enough to make up for $100m per day just at Goldman.  Seems like a bubble to me.

The market has tailed off in the last 15 minutes yet again.  Isn't that supposed to be a huge bearish indicator?  Why is there never any follow through to the downside?

No. It signals a 'healthy' Market, according to Wanger over a year ago.

There is no follow through, as there are no traders other than us small fry.

The True Believers always surprise me with their, honestly, stupidity when they compare what a dollar purchased in food in 1913 and what it purchases now. I cannot believe that a group that is allegedly so intelligent is capable of overlooking the minor detail that wages have risen more than prices and thus as a percentage of income, disposable income, after tax income, etal that food prices have dropped in our lifetimes and since 1913.

Thus there must be an agenda that you are pushing. One that requires your dishonesty.
