Ever heard of the oil/oxygen analogy? Basically oil is like oxygen for the economy. It is like our economy is a passenger in a spaceship with a limited oxygen supply. This would be bad enough if we were the only passenger. But we are not. And if we start holding our breath then the other passengers will use our oxygen.
If we stopped using oil then everyone else in the world would use what we use. Their economies would quickly outpace ours. They would dominate us economically, militarily, and culturally. They would make proud Americans their bitches.
Instead, like a desperate prisoner on a spaceship, we will fight for our oxygen, gently at first then with more violence as the oxygen becomes more thin. Our only hope is to be the last man standing.
