The Price Of Supreme Court Conscience: $10,000 Squid Bucks - The Skinny On SCOTUS "Justice" Elena Kagan
The scramble to fill the Supreme Court with Fed and Wall Street puppets in advance of Bernanke's last ditch appeal to preserve his secret bailout optionality of his closest Wall Street friends is on. Now that Elena Kagan is a officially the latest supreme court "justice", here is all you need to know about her independent "allegiance", courtesy of the WSJ:
From 2005 to 2008, Ms. Kagan was a paid member of the Research Advisory Council of Goldman Sachs Global Markets Institute, according to financial-disclosure reports she filed after being appointed to her current job. The form shows she was paid $10,000 in 2008, when she was dean of Harvard Law School.
The Securities and Exchange Commission has accused Goldman in a civil suit of failing to disclose to clients in a deal involving mortgage-related securities that a hedge fund betting on the mortgages to fail helped design the product. Goldman denies the charges.
Mr. Gibbs said the group Ms. Kagan advised had nothing to do with the activities in the SEC's case. "This is a panel that had absolutely nothing to do with the decisions that Goldman has made that they're now being investigated for," he said. Asked if there was a concern that this issue could be used against Ms. Kagan, should she be nominated, Mr. Gibbs said, "No."
May 9 will now live in history as not only the day fascism was overthrown, but the day in which the last take over of any hint of democracy both in Europe and the US was completed.

The greatest ROI ever. Really.
+1
Much better ROI than the return on the money Enron paid Krugman.
Obama is Wall Street's president, not ours. And don't even think about trying to start a left-right pissing contest. The value of your "vote" is plain for all to see.
been thinking the same thing all morning SWR.
our own 21st century Al Jolson.
Once a squid, always a squid.
My thoughts exactly. Is there any precedent or procedure for a SCOTUS justice to be recused or to recuse themselves when there is a potential for conflict of interest? I know nothing about the SCOTUS other than what I've read in the propaganda pamphlets.
I heard that Justice Roberts once recused himself. For 5 minutes to go to the bathroom to let a chamber of commerce member ejaculate on his face.
LOL

Paul: "Is it quite possible, have you talked to any international groups about us participating in a bailout with Greece?"
BB: "I have not"
BB: "We have no plans whatsoever to be involved in any foreign bailouts or anything of that sort."
Someone want to sue in European courts to get this information?
the governments are stupid, the corporations had more money and therefore power for the past 100 years and their total population also has a considerable power in the market. now they want to pick a fight? european politicians fail to realize markets are a voting place and unless you do it like US and print money for your mates who keep the status quo, people will vote against you and win.
"... Harvard Law School plans to waive tuition for third-year students who pledge to spend five years working either for nonprofit organizations or the government ... We know that debt is a big issue, said Elena Kagan, dean of the law school"

Can't they sell drugs after they graduate just like the doctors do.
I am laughing so hard I think I am starting to cry.
So now FED audit is over, when it goes to supreme court she will say no to audit Fed.
$10,000? This is a joke, isn't it? Nobody is bought for $10K - somebody is really reaching on this.
Some people are very cheap, obviously.
What manipulism said and I'll add that $10,000 is only the above-the-table payments. We never know what other favors are done for people. In fact, we usually become beholden to certain interests because of a network of favors, not straight up cash, homey.
Excellent analysis.
"$10,000? This is a joke, isn't it? Nobody is bought for $10K - somebody is really reaching on this."
Nonsense
At the state and local level politicians can be bought with an invitation to the right dinner party, or to join the right club.
In the case of a law dean or federal appointee, these kinds of paid "advisory council" positions will be stacked with people who will persuade her to adopt a speculation friendly pose, and the social, political, investment, and job connections often matter more than money.
Washington specializes in packaging bribes in legal forms.
LESBIAN in the supreme court....Wow...
Now, the Supreme Court will consist of three Jews and 6 Catholics and nobody else. Wow. By definition, it is an end of a free market system in America.
It appears that America does not belong to American people any more. It is an occupied country from now on. Usually, it does not end good.
So Catholics are not 'American people" by your definition? So I'm supposed to be sympathetic to people who worship invisible spirits, and be hostile to people who worship statues? You are a white-sheet-wearing, inbred moron.
And please spare me the "the reckoning is comin', y'all gonna be hanging from trees" schtick. We have a black president now, so if anyone's going to be hanging from trees, it's KKK morons like you.
Catholics DON'T worship statues. Jacob. But you're right, the guy is a bit of a twit.
And where in this theocratic discussion does an agnostic fit? The Old Testiment is really verbal Jewish history and the new testiment has been modified to suit through the centuries.
If you want to know what Jesus probably really said, IMO, the best source is the writing of Bart Ehrman.
He has several books on the general topic but the one I preferred was "Misquoting Jesus".

Gotta keep an eye on that powerful KKK.
Say what you like, the Supreme Court is not exactly "diverse" nor is it representative of the population of the U.S.
And how does a simple factual observation that White Protestants are unrepresented make one a candidate for Klan membership?
Liberals are by far the most intolerant people on the planet - edging out by a nose the Moslem clerics.
"LESBIAN in the supreme court."
Technically Kagen is a Troll Woman
That makes her asexual with a Romer haircut and a consummate Goldmanite...
Call your Senators' offices to protest, and go yell in the streets. Don't let it go by silently; Goldman & their ilk will not stop until they are made to. Fight this now, else you leave the battle to your kids.
We need to change the common public theme from "bankers can be trusted; they just need room to do their jobs", to "bankers can't be trusted, and need to be regulated". We don't need to win every battle, but we must keep shifting over the common perception. There has been a large shift in the last six months; needs to keep happening, until the words "Goldman Sachs" generate roughly the same visceral response as "Adolph Hitler" or "Pol Pot". Then we won't have to worry anymore about their stooges being appointed to high govt office.
Jeebus.. is there anyone involved in this that is NOT dangling from the asshole of Goldman-Sachs?
Kagan on Cass Sustein:
"Cass Sunstein** is the preeminent legal scholar of our time -- the most wide-ranging, the most prolific, the most cited, and the most influential," said Elena Kagan, dean of the law school, in a statement released this morning. "His work in any one of the fields he pursues -- administrative law and policy, constitutional law and theory, behavioral economics and law, environmental law, to name a non-exhaustive few -- would put him in the very front ranks of legal scholars."
"If I could add only one person to the faculty," Kagan added, "Cass would be that person."
http://www.boston.com/news/local/breaking_news/2008/02/harvard_law_lur.html
** Sunstein is Obama's information Czar and has some rather controversial perspectives on the the first and second amendment, he has also been touted as a potential Supreme Court appointee. This guy is one very very scary dude.

Sunstein came from the University of Chicago Law School to Harvard. (His claim to fame is infiltrating the Tea Party movement with ringers.) I would like to know which member of the Board of Trustees of the University of Chicago, once upon a time, called the Dean of the UofC Law School to create a position for Barry Soetero. (Did I spell that name correctly?) Which of the Pritzker grandchildren are on the Board? The value of the Supreme Court was best described by Alan Shore in a Boston Legal rerun over the weekend. Do you have your own lifeboat? That was another rerun over the weekend. As for bailouts -- you are witnessing the ghost of Harry Margolis on the use (as opposed to value) of fiat money. Someone Up There [sic] does not like or trust your leaders and is into big time Vengeance [sic again].
"Barry Soetero. (Did I spell that name correctly?)"
Perer Geithner Says Yes, You Did...
Peter Geithner, U.S. Agency for International Development, Ford Foundation and other CIA front company hack executive...
Father of an abortion of a US Treasury Secretary...
And Barry Obummer's mom's boss at the Ford Foundation...
Would say yes... you spelled the young CIA guns name correctly...
Now how about we see those registration and attendance records from Columbia... Mr. Soetero... Or was that an honorary degree?
Yes, why all the lawyers, Mr. Soetero? $1.3+ to seal up records of...everything? It's as if he dropped in our lap. But you're a racist for asking.
Common now, folks. Don't you think Tyler is being just a little tongue-in-cheek here? “Allegiance”? Yeah, right.
$10k is peanuts, especially for this crowd. No one of Kagan’s stature is bought for $10k. That is absurd. It's pure lunatic.
But more importantly, we all know that corporations, universities, etc., like to put various VIPs on their various largely-pointless advisory bodies for purely keep-in-touch "networking" and PR reasons. Kagan could very well be a member of dozens of boards and advisory councils and not even remember half of them. That's just how it is with this crowd. Their executive assistants have them flying to some board meeting every other week. Goldman Sachs is not the only company to play this game. Kagan could be on some board with BP, for all we know. Heck, she could be on the board of Zero Hedge if Zero Hedge had a board.
So what bearing does this have on her legal opinions, which, given that she is specifically intended as an ideological replacement to the retiring John Paul Stevens, are probably quite hostile to organized money and organized-anything?
Anyhow, now that JPM is being investigated as well---a criminal investigation, mind you, not merely a civil one---can we move on from Goldman Sachs for just a few hours? Personally I blame the Greeks and other coddled Europeans for their own problems. GS was just one facilitator among many. The entire world is structurally corrupt, and one company, however evil, is not the end-all-be-all here.
Sept. 30 (Bloomberg) -- The Federal Reserve filed a notice it will appeal a judge’s order requiring the central bank to identify the companies that benefited from its emergency loans. The filing with the U.S. Court of Appeals in New York today was authorized by Solicitor General Elena Kagan
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=aSab0xkcV8jc
That's great. Can you name me a single time that she did NOT authorize a filing by someone or other? This is SOP and does not amount to a ruling. Sheesh.
OT? She looks like Mike Myers.
Mr. Summers counseled Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the highest-ranking woman in elected office in American history, who drew him into economic advisory meetings. From the end of his presidency, the many women among his friends fanned out to defend his name. “Quite a number of us who are women and relished working with Larry” thought he had been given a “bum rap,” said Elena Kagan, whom Mr. Summers had appointed as law school dean.

are you sure she's not actually fat larry in drag?
$10,000???...So where are all the brain-dead feminists (example of a pleonasm) protesting the Equal Pay For Equal Work thesis?...Was she only worth $10,000 just like some prostitutes are only worth $20.00?
Tyler, it should read something like:
I’ll bet that Hillary and the 'preternatural' Huma had something to do with this nomination. It’s so,,,,,well it just smells like the sugar tales of a Sappho.

"I’ll bet that Hillary and the 'preternatural' Huma had something to do with this nomination."
Wrong. Hillary is Yale Law
This is Obummer's Harvard Law ugly little lump all the way... With a fat finger from Fat Larry Summers... Palace Poobah.
This lady could be a good SC judge. What seems to be happening with Obama's choices to the court is that he appears to want to change the court from the Viagra court to the Tena court. I would certainly hope that all of these women who are on the court now and are about to be appointed to the court over the next 3 years have completed menopause. Roberts does not look like the type who could handle a female majority for too long. Hot flashes and the US Constitution; sounds game changing to me.
I see a book coming out very soon, NYT best seller on day one..GS will buy every copy to store next to all the "dreams of my father", and
bill and hill's tomes...bribes right in front of your eyes..oh and the $$$ priced speaking ticket as well
got it?
Goverment/Wall street Incest
I, like many, really enjoy coming to ZH to read. Every now and then, ZH writes a piece that is so patently stupid, so uncomprimisingly ignorant, that one settles back and quietly asks themselves "I wonder how much of what is written here is actually crap and should I really spend so much time reading here?".
This is just such a piece. Misinformed, inaccurate, misguided. One magnificent Tyler Turd.
She's a zionist, she's Goldamn Sucks, she's a she.
None others need apply. Where's the vaunted diversity of the left?
Just like Bernanke, Geithner, Rubin, Greespan, Summers, Friedman, Greenberg, Gensler, and the rest of AIPAC.
What don't you get about that? Israelistes are a thousand times OVERrepresented in our government.
Perfect...and with that ladies and gentlemen, my question is answered and the defense rests...
I think that what some of the post are about is to try and get someone to bring forth other facts that dispute the introduction of the topic by ZH. I have to admit, sometimes it does not work. For instance, instead of complaining about the introduction of the topic in this post, what would have been nice was to have read a logical explanation about why the one fact about this woman brought up in this post is not relevant to her talents and intelligence. Then, possibly, maybe, a discussion of merit would have ensued.
Sometimes it takes a little prodding to get those who never comment to join in and make a difference. Pissing people off always gets some of the closet readers to comment.
Go back up and read my comment. If that is not a load of shit I do not know what is. I expected several junk flags.

Under Wilentz’s direction, Kagan spent her senior year conducting research for her thesis on the history of the socialist movement, which was titled “To the Final Conflict: Socialism in New York City, 1900–1933.”
From now until Senate confirmation hearings begin, we need to have as much information about Obama’s nominee, the makeup of the Supreme Court and what this makeup means for the future of the country as possible. Your information is very helpful as are others' observations on this post. Obviously, we will be fighting forces that would rather true information not be revealed. Thanks for your post.
an interesting piece from WaPo on Kagan

Gah! is it just me? or does she looks like Robert Gibbs in drag? I wouldn't touch her with CD's dick!
