Quick Housekeeping Note
As readers may have noticed, Zero Hedge has had intermittent traffic spikes over the past several hours, causing occasional downtime. In order to reduce database loads, we have temporarily taken off anonymous comment entry, until the traffic and database queries normalize. Registered comments are fully enabled.

It won't let me vote for Steve?
Looking into this -- thanks.
Congratulations, ZH, for the traffic spike. Perhaps you should consider getting more servers/bandwidth. The way this mess is going, you're going to be inundated for the next year!
:D

i gave $50 a few weeks back. Zh deserves it!
Donate folks!
Orly,
Care to make a donation?
ZH is a shoe string operation at best and can always use a few shekels thrown its way. Those severs and extra bandwidth don't come cheap.
Some assistance may be required.
All right, all right! Damn!
Feel like I am back in Catholic school.
/: <<Guilt!>>
In a world full of BS these guys have some actual content so you slip 'em a twenty by the backdoor once in a while... it's all cool we're pretty agnostic around here.
Can't do it from the office.
As soon as I get to the house, I promise.
:D
P. S. Can we get more volunteers for the same?
Gave three figures last month. Best money I spent all month.
Ahhhh!
I feel better now. Kinda like coming out of the confession booth with not a whole lot of Hail Mary's.
And, it was painless!
:D Rock on, ZeroHedge!
Repo 105?
No great loss.
Its an orchestrated FRBNY/FED Denial-of-Service attack, Benny and Timmay are running out of weapons to silence the opposition...
the name manbarepig: +1 or possibly +4.7538 (applying LEH/ Treasury accounting)
Rumor has it that BS signs one post a day, always after returning from "lunch" with Bawnee. I also dig the name. I wonder what alias Matt and Trey use on ZH?
ManBearPig:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xf69EEL3WBk
Manbearpig (the actual D-Bag): now claims that the economy is better...
I hope the post will educate:

as for the alias- not sure- very good question- will keep a look out..

Delete account tracking history and go commando
I second this!
Maybe ZH has finally found a way to cut down on the troll count. Let them eat cake.
Could be huffpo readers attacking!!
Well it is nice to be exclusive for a moment or two.
You should be Knighted TD!
Why not permanent?
totally agree... let's have this as a vote..
of course only registered accounts should be allowed for this vote. No need to be bipartisan
Nooo... oh please no. The other day I was locked on the other side of the fence, finding myself in a rapidly deteriorating state of delirium and sweatty suction cups from the mere thought of having been excluded from the daily dose of commenting banter.......
Besides, despite the occasional anoron, there are many interesting comments from other anonymouses. Some of which we would no doubt lose, if registration was to become mandatory.
Dude, you've been registered for 9 days. You have a need for leaving comments after only 9 days? Or does this mean you've been an anon for a long time and only recently registered?
The reason I like the registration is because your history becomes available for viewing. Based upon writing styles and other indicators, it's clear to me that quite a few anon's are playing both sides of the fence, making comments for and against an issue on the same thread. Or they will present conflicting views on different threads. Being able to look at the posters history cleans up a lot of this junk. People act a little more civil when they know they're being watched. Sort of what we want to happen in the financial industry.
Totally agree, except I dont like forcing anyone to do anything, even as something as trvial as signing up for a blog to comment. Maybe there just needs to be an extra incentive for signing up. With all the smart kids on this site should be an easy brainstorming session...
Damn! You people can read my posting history?!?!?
I did not know that...
/:
I'll second that. I make it a point to avoid reading anonymous posts anyway.
+1000
ZH has rapidly become the "in" investment site, and the articles are outstanding.
But face it, folks, the comments area is so overrun with submoronic banter, insults, and plain juvenile behavior that it's hard to justify bothering to read.
Allowing registered comments only won't completely solve the problem because many of the worst offenders are registered. But hey, it's a start...
xPat
Sounds like a GOOD problem rather than a BAD problem.
Hey Tyler, personally, I wish you never allowed anonymous comments. It is so easy to register and does not violate personal privacy. Some of the anonymous comments that I read are just not fit for what you and the rest of the staff accomplish here.
Make everyone register. It is not a big deal if they believe in the site. And agree, traffic will Not be decreasing going forward.
+1 ... but relax password standards, this isn't Bank of America
Yes..kill the anon posts. It makes DOS/spam attacks more difficult.
It also reduces disinformation, and God knows the MSM provides enough of that.
All "Anon-E-Mouse" rodent posters should be banned. If you are too gutless to use your real name then you shouldn't post to such forums as Zero Hedge. The internet is an ocean of fabrications, spin, inane gossip, obfuscation and outright lies. Mind pollution should be avoided at all costs. Life is short. Objective truth and wise counsel is in short supply around the globe. Either join the game and contribute something positive or stay on the bleachers and support the real payers.
Real Name? Polar Bear
You really should PERMANENTLY eliminate anonymous posting.
People are looking for real answers, and they cannot trust the media and CNBC is a laughingstock.
ZEROHEDGE has opened my eyes, and I think there are more and more sleepers that are awakening. Many of the blogs in many of the financial commentariy sites all have postes featuring ZEROHEDGE weblinks.
This does not suprise me at all.
I asy it is an indacator for the market, and people are looking for answers because they do not like the news that is always bad, and this suckfest market continues to go up on BS!!!
You validate their findings. I do not think the "spike" will go away.
I'm having a hard time staying logged in. Every time I change pages it logs me out. HELP!
Check your browser to save cookies for the site.
As opposed to clearing them with refresh.
Opera will do that.
In the past I have been a "reader" only. This post inspired me to register for an account.
Change is good.
I think on balance the gains outweigh the losses.
Gains : Knowing who posted what, which provides more coherent “conversations”. People not being able to hide behind anonymity to act badly, or troll. Anon vs anon fights are rarely productive.
Losses : Possibility of someone not posting something valuable because they are frightened of being made public. Perhaps 20% of the "good" comments come from Anon.
I would also like to see a "flag as excellent" option. Sometimes I really agree with a comment and wish there was some easy and quick way to give a thumbs up....
+1, +100, +10000000000000
Well, yes, I guess you can do this. But if 10 people like a comment, it's a bit silly seeing a page full of +1's. I take your point though.
