Hi there. Guests. Goodness.
Lothar....
Hi, my name is Charlie Gasparino. Some of you may know me from CNBC, I am a financial reporter. All I want to say is thank you Zero Hedge, its staffers, contributors, & posters. Because of you I still have a job at CNBC, because ALL my breaking news come from you guys. This is the premier source of info for me that's unbiased. Maybe someday I will be able to be like you guys.
Thanx for this Marla.. How about the 8th sense
i don't want to suggest anything, spread post over various threads or nothing of the similar; BUT i would like you Marla to consider playing this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKum7WWeq0Y on RZH. I know its not your type of music; BUT i have a belief that the lyrics describe the current Landscape with a particular elegance and brilliance which deserves to be played on RZH and heard by ZH'ers
Dude. Bukowski, the poet reading at the beginning of that song, is probably my favorite all-time writer. You ever read any of his novels? I recommend Women, Factotum, Post Office, Ham on Rye, plus the short story collections Tales of Ordinary Madness, South of no North, Hot Water Music, and The Most Beautiful Woman in Town.
And if you've read Bukowski and enjoy it, check out John Fante's Ask the Dust and Wait Until Spring, Bandini.
Bukowski; the last great American poet; and one of the top 5 all time poets in my book. I mainly put the song up because " Born into this " is the intro; not so much for the rest of the song. I have read almost all of his writings; brilliant brilliant man. Thank for the recommendation; i will sure read it.
I haven't been the same since Post Office. Bukowski was something else.
i can name you two poems which changed my view on things completely; Genius of the Crowd and " The miracle is the shortest time ". After that; well ...
Genius of the Crowd is amazing...it always bothers me that so few people understand the beauty and value of solitude. It's as if they are so uncomfortable within their own skin that they cannot fathom being subjected to their own thoughts without outside stimuli.
i think it was Deleuze who wrote the following: " Solitude is the habitat of the Mind; cleansed from Language and submerged into Being. Thoughts; like flowers on a field; flourish in Solitude; worlds are constructed and Truths are revealed. The essence of Humanity is not Interaction; but the action within the mind.Action which could only be achieved trough Solitude. " I think it was in Difference and Repetition; but dont im not sure. Bukowski just transfered the complex realm of methaphysics into poetry. And what a poetry it is. And i think this is the excerpt from the reading you mentioned in your post. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7pE89K-pgU&feature=PlayList&p=CE858957BDCD033B&index=0
I think it was actually Bukowski at Bellevue, but I appreciate the clip you posted. It's very difficult for me to appreciate good poetry when I read it from the printed word but when the poet is reciting, I get it.
I honestly think solitude is one of the fundamental things missing from modern society. How often do most people sit and think without some outside influence intruding into their thoughts? I submit that it rarely happens for most folks, if ever. I'm currently living with my folks; their house is on a lake and often I just go sit at the end of the dock with a beer or a smoke and contemplate the vastness of our reality. I hope someday to be able to do it on my own piece of land. I enjoy the lack of intrusion from others--so often they offer so little in the way of value. Most of the time if I'm forced to choose between thinking about what someone else says and thinking about nothing, I'd choose nothing.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHRcKjvX1xE&feature=related the first sentence he says is the most important one.
You said it brother. Well, he said it. But either way--I feel we've come to a point where we detract from each other as often as we build each other up. What is society worth if it only creates at best an equal chance of enhancing as destructing?
I'd rather live with nothing and die at the age of 30 than live with everything and die at the age of 80. Life is not synonymous with longevity. We've lost our sense of what living really means.
why surfing? not for the crowds, but for the solitude. ironic due to the abundance of life swimming and crawling all around and I still feel alone in a good way. others meditate or go on walkabouts do mathematics. posdnous was right when he stated, "it's just me, myself and I". or was it plug 2?
war is kind by crane is a good one
I was given Women by a friend (is there a better gift?!) and experiencing the brute force of Bukowski's writing really changed the way I perceived the world. I also once had a CD of a live poetry reading of his and it was simply amazing. He berated the audience, cursed, threatened them from time to time, and got noticeably drunk as the reading went on.
I live only because I have a crazy hope of achieving the truth and beauty akin to Bukowski's life. If only more people understood the pride and humility that should lead any person to be the best version of themselves possible. I remember him saying that he never wrote because he wanted to be a writer, but because he honestly felt like if he didn't write he would die. He had to get it out to survive.
Thank you! Women was the other one, been to long. Brute force is right.
It always surprises me to find another Bukowski fan, but somehow I expected it within the ZH community. Bukowski spoke truth and it scared many, but that never scared him. He just did it man. Live what you feel and think about what you live.
oh your cute†
Lovely intro, ma'am.
This may be more relevant in a while this evening, but Happy Bourbon Heritage Month to all! http://tomeblen.bloginky.com/2009/09/01/bourbons-elder-statesmen-are-rea...
Carryover from a bit of last night while the tunes flow for us....
:)
Corporation ZH
When you start selling "Gold" the timeline to your survival rate drops to "Zero".
Marla, you're the best.
:(
Oh, it HAS been one of those weeks. This is a nice way to begin tuning out the world's static prior to 5 days of salmon fishing on the west side of Vancouver Island next week. Thank you.
How I have missed my summer trips to Hornby Island. Good luck on the run
The fishing on the banks has been really good. Apparently they are crawling with big Coho (15-20 lbs) and the Robertson Creek Chinook run is late, but has started to pass through. Those Chinook regularly get over 30 pounds. There are also a lot of 8-12 pound feeder Chinook around and Pink salmon around. I don't think we're going to get bored...
'Schmooze could you supply us with a surf report on your return? Go Flames.
You would think they would at least go to Goldman's HQ
to do this:
Filmed at 59th st and 5 ave New York City. Drivers being illegally ticketed by NYPD.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1KmACpxl4k
This is why they wouldn't go to Goldman HQ it (since I don't know how to post a real org chart):
Goldman Sachs >>>(equity ownership & board representation)>>>> U.S. Gov. (wholly owned subsidiary subject to Chinese 1st lien on all assets) >>>>>>(Federal Complete Authority)>>>>> State & City of NY >>>>>(direct commanding authority)>>>>NYPD
It's way past 8:00, should I be hearing something besides music?
Exceptional music?
The muic selection is great, just this is my first time trying to listen to Radio ZH and wanted to know if i'm doing something wrong.
Nope!
I want to hear Marla speak
How about sing?
ok
Stood up to mosh in my homeless cardboard home, hit my head and passed out. Woke up to good tunes.
Make sure you replace your incandescent lights with green (toxic) lights before the deadline.
F that. I'm burning olive oil lamps, sucka! My ventilation is solid, so don't worry. ;)
spewing
Cheeky indeed!
Old school rock and metal have kept me musically happy for a very long time now, however it is nice to revisit this ... slant. I recalled some Tangerine Dream from when I was younger hearing your spins.
My girlfriend dj'd briefly at a local college radio, and after I transpose some of her originals to a more modern medium, and giving them the once over, I / we'll try to get a sample over to you. She gave me the run down on mixing, your boards, etc. so I'm still trying to keep an open mind about it all.. especially if she'd like to get involved too.
In any event, hope you don't mind me drawing off your musical bandwidth pipe for a little while, your style of music can invigorate, and is interesting.
Thanks!
Sorry for the stupid question, but how do I listen?
Thanks.
The only thing that worked for me was GOM player,
but i have only found the Korean player.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gom_player
http://gom.gomtv.com/audioMain.html
I wonder why I can't get this to work?
VLC player error
Unable to open 'http://cdo.zerohedge.com:8000/'
persistantly clicking the play button worked for me
+1 on furiously mashing the play button.
You want me to pull a geithner?
mashing works!
itunes works best for me. wish i could download it to my instinct for on the go rzh!
just got back from my grueling sat night run and ready for liquor and music.
If I may place a request for my namesake, por favor.
Nice set, who are the guests? And if they can keep you going for 3+ hours maybe you should have them over more often =P
Once a month I do "Club Marla" and have the same 40-60 regulars over.
and I thought Tyler was the one with the club...
I was wondering how to get tickets or how to become a regular, but i figure if I stand here on the porch long enough maybe, just maybe someone will let me in.
Can I be one of your regulars?
Awesome transition!
thank you for the e-mail Mawla.
Bestest friendliest nicest DJ on the nets!
No, I wasn't paid by Tyler to say that.
Welcome!
Absolutely awesome. Thanks for providing the soundtrack to SecondFriday Marla!
Woman this is good stuff. I loved
Gigi D'Agostino - I 'll fly with youOk off to make a drunken attempt at convincing the general populace on why to buy canned goods and berettas.
be sure to take enough fluid :D
Marla, could you be the famous Malibu Sue from
the old WLIR/WDRE? No No, but maybe, No! um?
http://wlir.fm/wdre_tribute_page.htm
hahahah this is the funniest vocals i've heard ever over beats...
I have got to find this speech. Those skirts dropping cause the market to drop for sure!
Eddie Cantor - Tips on the Stock Market (1929).
Boy, he sure did call Chrysler.
heard your voice for the first time.
I Will Obey. Wai ting instruc tions.
We are all infidels now! :)
Great! Now where do I come get that free coffee? ;)
So honored for the mention... Thinking about starting up a local chapter of Fight Club. lol
not really an epidural. With that last transition it was a strait spinal with heavy local and a lot of narcotic. Maybe a auction for a night a club Marla is in order. I would wager that if you added CHeeky and Project M that the bids would be outstanding.
Holy shite!!! If I had a tumor I would name it Marla.
Let's get some Amsterdam rocking, sir! Woohoo...
AVB - nice!
Labor Day: A time to kick back, throw back your feet and a few beers in celebration of Organized Blackmail. God I love this country.
she's playing my song.
Remember the waxtrax label? yeah - the industrial
music category. NIN came out of that label, but FRONT 242
was the best band from Waxtrax. Now label is crap, but
FRONT 242's song Headhunter is still amazing. Ok, I
owned a dance club in Connecticut when that was the
No. 1 song - people went nuts. I loved the black lipstick.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPpUFBVSyWs
Swayin' to dis jam set like a hunger crazed dingo watching toddlers on a swingset.
Marla is that your voice? Where have you been all my life?
The accordion is the most underrated musical instrument in today's music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rH9x4S3-wVY
Also: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pc_E5FfcTr0
I'm a sucker for folk rock shite.
More topical: The Streets' "Everything is Borrowed": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8BHL5SWX0Q
Use an accordion: go to jail. (Just a bumper-sticker I once saw. Love the squeeze-box.)
got any uberzone?
my other personality is a psychiatrist thank you!
Wow... it's like you really know me......
That, or one of the voices in my head called and told you. ;)
just got a socket....woot!
urr soo perty. You make my SKF calls talk to me.
I feeeel ya. I reck'n I do. I feel som-ting.
Ok. troopers listen up. Went to Valley Forge.
Log cabins that George Washington's troops built
were still standing after 200+ years. So I decide
to relive that life style as a vacation escape.
New Hampshire and other states have such cheap land
to escape to.
In CT, so NH is best for me (no income tax)
Bought 3 books on cabin building and NH seems OK with
it, but I will still do best to stay off the grid.

Bro. I did a quick scan. I will save the link and
investigate further. thanks.
Now did that help you out, Cheeky? A gorgeous VO and now some slamming beats?
Sessy sessy I say.

I have stepped back and slid. Now what Marla?
Say something.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4CzwZZ1Ce0
a ld 50 dose, fully dilated
I love Marla(s). hoh
Funny story. My Bro. in law over xmas in Watermill
tells me that GE is a buy - and that we will never see
21 bucks a share again. Well, the Hamptons may have
cautionary air, but I said to him. Dude we are in the
midst of impeding doom, and he says "thats all bullshit.
I work on Wall Street - we know first hand".
2 months later GE in below 10 bucks. My Sis was pissed.
That's hilarious. I'm convinced that 98% of those who work on the street know less of reality than the average ZH reader. I don't doubt a sizeable portion of streeters read ZH but I'm certain nearly all of them scoff at the truth, because they've effectively immunized against reality. Without knowing it.
Reality is the hallucination we share with our neighbors. I like this neighborhood.
Interesting thought. The true reality is merely a hallucination. F'ing scary. But liberating in its meaningless at the same time.
That's my favorite phrase... heard it here on ZH... and it is my favorite neighborhood as well... a great escape.
I think the original line is, "Sanity is the hallucination we share with our neighbors." But I have a tendency to warp things and make them me own. Someone told me he thought most people have about 100 tapes in their head, and most of what you get from people is pre-programmed. That line's one of my tapes.
there is also a saying from where i come from which goes like this " Reality is a state induced by the lack of alcohol " Sadly, for me; it describes my, once, not so glorious position.
aaah you're russian...
And another bit. My sister, who worked hard for
success, knows nothing about investing. She tells her
all-knowing husband 12 years ago - to buy Apple
stock. He told her she was dumb. Did not understand.
If he had listened, 15Mil profit. Instead 5 Mil loss
in the dot com bubble.
winning the hearts and minds
Great set Marla! Keep the tables spinning, and the beats bumpin'.
And another one! Thanks all RZH folks.
Who won the hat?
As a matter of policy, Zero Hedge does not comment on the identity of contributors, staff or contest winners.
I called. Number was not set up. Is it a Blue state
problem. Shit -I mean dang!
Marla
Why can't I reply to your comment?
Except when you hand them the microphone and you're not employing the 7-second-delay. ;-) [runs and hides]
Hank Paulson
lol... probably needs it to cover up his balding head...
Or the hole in the back of it...
funny
It won't be funny until his family has reason to cry. Sad in a way but true.
Oh, I didn't mean that kind of hole... don't wish even my worst enemy real harm...
Death is not harm. Death is truth.
Marla, can you send a shout out for my 40th birthday? Would love to hear it from you...
Much Love! Billy
happy birthday man; all the best
Is it actually your birthday? What song shall we play for you?
Marla your first question is the equivalent of "This sentence is false". now verify the sentence.
You noticed the paradox?
" That sentence was not paradoxical "
how do you like my meta-paradox NOW
Self-referential propositions such as the ones imitating the lier paradox are often problematic under a logic postulating the law of excluded middle, but not necessarily in other logical systems.
I think it is rather premature to assume the "classical" logic applies to our casual statements.
but you are just kidding around, i know :)
nvmd; post to long
Kinda like saying "I'm not an alcoholic" is the first thing an alcoholic would say. But it's also the first thing a non-alcoholic would say.
Let me interveve.
how bout this kid?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yw_gouo2Tqo
"This statement is false".
same thing. a sentence is a statement as long as the sentence is either represented by notation, de-notation or with a line of signs and/or symbols which must be representative. in logic it equals to the same thing. But thanks for writing it like it is in the original.
I'm all about simplicity and in my experience orginality equates with simplicity. Let's be honest though--our entire reality is paradoxical at this point. Our paradoxes are not limited to logical (or illogical) statements. Our reality is entirely defined by paradoxical conceptions.
Which is the entire reason I want to walk off into the swamp and never return, like the Seminole elders when they felt death on the horizon. Unfortunately I feel some debt to the future and have a misguided hope that I can teach someone something worthwhile.
Reality itself is never paradoxical. Only people's explanation and chosen stances toward reality can be paradoxical. Lying about the state of reality, backing it up with falsified data, and appealing to fallacious authority does not make reality paradoxical.
megaphones are better than gospels anyway
Yes, the 5th but I am still in celebration mode. Whatever you play is right by me. You choose. And thank you Cheeky. I love your post and follow them daily. I am a fan.
Marla.
Why can't I reply to your comments?
;(
So she can always have the last word... its a women's prerogative :-)
Because you, apparently, can't be troubled to register and sign in.
FRONT 242s song is so complimentary to what we are listening
to.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCywceeOgYI
Found this, but the newer stuff is all live.

What a con.
You're always Falling.
