Radio Zero: Studio Zero Goes Beta
Having moving into our new facility and having liberated or resurrected a number of pieces of audio hardware thought long lost, eventually we had to put the new digs through their paces. What better night than a Thursday for Studio Zero's first public beta?
The fun begins at 10:45(ish) pm ET and continues until the red bull runs out and the convenience store down the street is closed.
Tonight we'll be testing:
- BRAND New music from Europe, hot off the digital presses. (Some of it actually pre-release... but SHHHHH).
- A variety of microphone setups and our soundbooth.
- The new mixing board.
- Marla's patience.
- "Lloyd" has also been promising to do an insta-remix with Marla for a week, live, as you listen. Just the thing for the aspiring producer as Lloyd has produced six top 10 EDM pieces in the last 4 years. It may get ugly, but it will be fun.

Fueled by coke. Coal or petroleum, of course.

Coke huh? She struck me as a Meth kinda gal... hmmm
Forwarding the link to Larry Summers. Deserves an ear massage before the music's over.
this should be good to suspend my rationality, which should help me see through the clutter of facts, and make some good stock picks for tomorrow..ROFLMAO.... good stock picks... oh I'm a funny guy....
Ok, my kids r not here to help and I am on my iPhone. How the fuck do get this working - what is the link??

Marla, now that Studio Zero is up and running, will we be able to download historical sets anytime soon?
keep the red bull, just give me the vodak
Sounds good. I have to get my MPC + Roland Synth back in business.
I for one love arabic beats mixed with techno/hip-hop, if any of that is around...just a thought..
sorry I'm late
Give DOD some Talvin Singh - Sounds of the Asian Underground
hey weevil, I checked out talvin, Butterfly, and I like it, just a lil more trance for me... here's a link of the first thing I found on par to what I'm talkin' about..

I just love int'l cross genre mash ups
This is why I love this site. Let Calculated Risk try to do THIS.
what they got a web cam there too?
It's me right now.
Hah, someone likes meth
Sounds Great...
nice... thanks marla
btw, zh should setup some sort of info distribution mechanism outside of the public internet (look into universities, both for alt networks and distributed distro w/digi signatures, even physical media, etc)... this would keep info flowing if they "mistakenly" kill your dns records and/or block your ip's (useful for certain countries and workplaces now, and the "end of days" in the near future)
mjb
this explain a lot, but thats what i said last time, and look where i ended up, couldn't be happy
-on the bright side, at least i have a front row seat to the end of the world
i hope request are not fulfilled through torrent websites, that would be immoral, no more of that needed
Not to mention insecure. I mean, not that anyone here does such things... but I would thinking sending .mp3s, FLACs or the like by AIM file transfer would be effective.
This is very very very cool. Like a kickin' version of my (now other) favorite station - Riviera Radio out of Monaco. Now I have two ways to pretend its 3am at Jimmy'z.
Great stuff. I have to work in the am... Damn. A few more hours.
Hey, when ya'll gonna jump on the social media bandwagon?
May I suggest a little Rachid Taha?
CD
I have noticed a very high correlation to FX volatility when Radio Zero is on(ie. tonight). There must be a lot of FX traders playing keyboards on their terminals.
Careful with the Grey Goose & Red Bulls; wouldn't want to cause a 1% blip in the DXY, would we?
My cuneiform is poor, but Marla has promised to play the Man with the Red Face at 2:55am to forestall my 3:00am margin call. There is a very high correlation with this song and U.S. dollar rallies. This will get my trade back on side. She has saved me from bankrupcy countless times!
How about 2:12am?
Of course! you've given me an extra 45 mins....to make money...I'm going to Vegas to party with Clinton. Saved my ass again. Luv ya!
And what does ZH need posting set lists?
Especially 12:19AM... "where's a man to run to?" - Sinnerman remix? Got any more track info to share?
self replies, aftermidnight it's alright.
(Felix da Housecat Remix)
That was Nina Simone - Sinnerman (Marla's Morbid Remix)
love the mix!
Thasss what I'm talkn bout!!
Nina Simone - Sinnerman!
Power! *piano jamming*
Hey Marla, when ya planning to turn these mega mixes into mp3's? I know you're busy but a time period will give me much to look forward to. I asked a couple sessions ago, but when was ambiguous. You're still planning on it at least, I hope?
Thanks,
Trelly
Totally going to not wake up for my linear regressions final tomorrow morning....
Jane Street says don't worry about such things. Just stroll on in when you get hungry.
What are linear regressions? Is that a VWAP thing?
naw ordinary least squares, generalized linear models, Gauss–Markov theorem and basic Shazam garbage.
That is good stuff. Just don't waste your life learning the efficient market hypothesis. Or worse, trying to implement it.
lol theory and practical application I have come to learn have vast differences. Theoretically everything is just ceteris paribus.
Lagrangian multipliers anyone?
In this market? 45 degree slopes. Just have to plot where to change the +/- sign.
They are all already mp3s. Just trying to figure the best way to distribute them.
"Hey Marla, when ya planning to turn these mega mixes into mp3's?"
Why not do it yourself? http://streamripper.sourceforge.net/
Oh the power of the interweb. Sweet - thanks.
Because the official releases will be remastered, 192kbits or 224 VBR, put through some nice post-processing and otherwise commercial release quality material and a stream cap is... a stream cap.
put them up for sale in the store
That would be kind of naughty.
Oh I see, so I shouldn't be listening to the stream, I should be waiting for the official remastered version.
Or what exactly were you trying to say?
128kbps @ 44khz is plenty listenable for me. 192kbps is only marginally better, perhaps some more definition in the high end.
And, if one wanted, they could both rip the stream and download the official uber post processed version. No downside there, really.
Are you guys running cd decks or turntables, or some kind of software package like Tracktor?
Everybody to bed now, gotta milk the cows in the morning.
Thanks Marla! workin' and jammin 12:52 AM EST!
Lula vs Alan T great mix
That was a bit Rauhaufer-esque
Nice music
Is this the GS acolytes in a dark underground vault using trance, pentagrams, and decayed things to try to bring the world economy back from the dead?
Snappy dirge
Never mind the world economy, they're just trying to bring back Flash:

Sublime. Who's this with the piano ?
groovy, I can dig it!
I can hear you...goodbye
Great stuff....thanks.
Thanks Marla!
See (hear) ya next time!
great stuff!
what schedule to you plan?
Sad I missed this edition. I'll be ready for the weekend though.
Nice set, Marla. I caught the last few hours only, but enjoyed.
There is a show called "Expansions" on KEXP (Seattle) that delves into some similar electronica each Sunday evening at 9pm PST. There are 3 DJs: Masa, Riz, & KidHops. The former 2 IMHO are extremely talented and I have been exposed to a wide array of new sounds thanks to them. You can stream shows for 2 weeks after they air at
http://kexp.org/streamarchive/streamarchive.asp
(listen by time is easiest) Listening to the live stream gets you a little more bandwidth usually (128 vs 96)
Looking forward to your next set (and maybe this time I'll remember the bloody time diference with the East Coast).
I donated $20 to ZH to help cover the streaming music & finance content and I encourage others to do so as well if you enjoyed the show.
Cheers--Dantzler
