The reason why the BDY was quite high was because ships used the excuse for expensive oil TO TRAVEL SLOWER.

saving gas and all...

But by increasing travel time, they where able to push the supply of ships down increasing the BDI and make more money if they lacked another follow up contract.

Now this is becomming very wel known and also because every warehouse is has stock for the next 20 years, the BDI is going down.

Give it another 6 weeks and the BDI will be at 800.
