Remembering 9/11, Nine Years Later
If you
ask anyone where they were on the morning of September 11th, 2001, they
will tell you exactly where and even tell you what they were doing in
great detail. It's as if time just stopped and the world came to an end.
I
was in Crete, and came back from a day of swimming at the beach when I
walked into my house and my father told me terrorists just flew planes
into the Twin towers. I couldn't believe the horror I was watching on
CNN. That was exactly nine years ago, and even though I try not to think
about it as much, being in Crete, it feels like it happened yesterday.
Last
night, Greek television played a documentary on the Marriott World Trade
Center survivors. The hotel was crushed except for the south tower,
where miraculously a lawyer was saved by a brave fireman and his
colleagues. He survived to see his daughter get married and even invited
that fireman to the wedding. There was also a lady with severe MS in
that hotel who survived and reunited with her mother after experiencing a
harrowing day.
Watching that documentary makes you appreciate
life. Today, I went swimming with my brother-in-law at one of my
favorite beaches, at the peninsula in Agia Pelagia. It was tough going
down the steep hills and all those stairs, but when I reached the sea,
it was all worth it.
Hiking back up after swimming for two hours
wasn't easier. But at one point, we stopped, enjoyed the view and I
looked over to my brother-in-law and said "we are lucky to enjoy this
day, nine years ago thousands of innocent people lost their lives in a
tragic event. I might have MS, but at least I am alive and enjoying
life."
To all those victims and their families, I want to tell
you that we will never forget 9/11 and our thoughts and prayers are with
you.

That is the interesting question to me. I believe it is a mixture of folks.
Some are just purely anarchist's who hate all government for it's intrusion into their lives and think they can prod people to their view by promoting this conspiracy. While I share their distaste of incompetent government I don't hate government. Good governance is preferable to none. Law is preferable to no law etc. You can't have a lasting movement built on a lie though.
Some are anti-semitic bigots, clearly, who fold their views into the conspiracy to their own ends.
Some are muslim, who of course, want attention directed anywhere but toward a brother of Islam whether Sunni or Shiite
Some are America's competitors and or enemies, nationals of another country. ZH is an international forum after all.
Some are ex-hippies who have taken what Ike said about the military industrial complex into their belief system and added hate for anyone who wears the uniform with honor like Ike did. I know these types intimately because I had a dalliance with the lifestyle in my youth.
Some are purveyors of books on the subject. The conspiracy has produced a cottage industry that produces wealth for them. These people have created a special place of contempt in my heart for their profiting off of the misery of their fellow countrymen. They are to me as Goldman & Morgan is to "free markets".
I'm sure there are other rocks to look under to see what comes slithering out...but this is my view generally.

you do know that Jet engines are made from steel and burn jet fuel inside of them for +20 hours straight and do not melt dont you?

"Soften" is a relative term here, like steel is softer than diamond.
Losing half it's strength means something like a steel pipe heated to 650°C can carry only 500 pounds, instead of 1000 pounds at room temperature, before is bends. But it would then still be completely hard, enough to crush your bones if someone hit you with it.
Would someone tell these Truther that there are many types of steel.
Of course the steel inside a turbine engine is not the same stuff the open web trusses were made from.
Jet fuel, friction from a plane travelling at 550 miles an hour, plus all the other flammables, including the structural steel in the Twin Towers, is what knocked the buildings down.
And yes, steel burns.
Assign blame to Dubya and his cohorts for not stopping the attack, but forget about absurd tripe about them arranging this deed.

Since the planes were at about 550mph at impact, and the fuel is heavy, that explains the huge fireball exiting the building.10 minutes later, the fuel was gone.
It is called physics.....look it it up.
So after 10 minutes nothing was burning in the building anymore, except for some office furniture maybe?
And of course a 767 jet crashing through walls with such an impact that pieces of it emerge from the other side does nothing to steels integrity to hold up the floors above it.

However the calculated maximal temperature increase calculated at that linked site is ridiculous, as it assumes:
1.) Two thirds of the approximately 10,000 gallons jet fuel were consumed in the initial fireballs or flowed away - but miraculously emitting no heat?
2.) All the steel and concrete was heated up exactly the same, i.e. perfect thermal conduction everywhere.
I say 362 angels can fit on the head of a pin, and I have scientific proof.

I worked on the NYMEX when it was in the base of the World Trade Center for the first bombing in the early 90s.We at first thought a helicopter hit the building. We all learned the wrong thing at that time.A friend of mine ,Billy Schneider, was the last person out of the garage by seconds before the bomb blew. We knew then that it was terrorism. Unfortunately we learned the wrong thing. We felt they could not knock the buiding down, so as a result, there were hundreds of fire engines, police cars etc parked right next to and under the WTC. When they collapsed on the second bombing, unfortunately i knew how many people were in harms way. The reason the NYMEX had moved before the second bombing is because the Chairman of the NYMEX, Vincent Viola was ex-Special Forces and a West Point grad. and he felt they would be back. So we moved. God Bless.
I was on the phone with my floor trader in the NYMEX (trading ridiculously thin NYSE futures) when the 1993 garage bomb happened. He acted like it was no big deal. Then calls me back with fills and casually asks if I have any more trades because they are "evacuating". WTF? My fills/next trade are irrelevant given the situation.
I was trading on the moring of 9/11. Saw the screen go nuts. Took CNBS out of mute mode. They (Faber & Haynes maybe??) were trying to say a small private plane 'accidentally' hit the north tower. Because of the '93 episode, I knew exactly what happened. I thought about getting long Dec. ten years and short spoos, but it didn't feel right. I just got flat. And maybe cried a little.
1st and foremost my condolences too all that were harmed that day.
As to the trades you were going to put on... Those would have been monsters!

Watching the news today...and how 9/11 is consistently used as an excuse for two endless middle east wars costing trillions of dollars and additional thousands of lives - so obvious how the MSM/sheeple pander to the military/industrial complex and the distraction from the economic issues.

I was wondering how long it would take for a sobering and honest view of this tragedy. What makes the deaths of those citizens worse is the lies that accompany them.
Anyone that believes the "official" story of 9/11 is an idiot or a lazy piece of shit that couldn't care less about the lives of those that died that day and since in needless, senseless, aggressive, destructive, inhumane wars that have been justified because of this falsehood.

Why is the 9/11 remembrance being built up AGAIN. Why is it so special this year? It feels a lot like when Bush used 9/11 and Iraq to get re-elected. Come to think of it... mid-terms are coming up. Or are we preparing to invade Iran? I don't remember it being this played this much last year, the year before, or the year before that.
