So the beard goes the way of the dino - let's assume that will be the case.

Volcker is 82 and likes Fly Fishing - my guess he does not want the job.

Who are the candidates that the readers of ZH would prefer?

Inanimate carbon rod.  I would prefer no one, but I'll settle for Satan himself as long it's someone to man the printing press.  Wonder what Dick Fuld is up to, he has experience piloting sinking ships into ice bergs.

Well the last time it came down to an inanimate carbon rod versus Homer Simpson, the rod was given a victory parade. So place your bets?

Dr. Gideon Gono is the only man with uncontested credentials for the job.

If Bernanke is not reconfirmed, markets will drop even lower.

Which plays into the end game of 401K's being transferred into "safe" government bonds.

A note to Kay:

Dear Senator Hagan,

I am writing to you to express my dissatisfaction with Dr. Bernanke's performance as Chairman of the Federal Reserve.

There is much evidence that policies of the Federal Reserve under the chairmanship of Dr. Bernamke contributed to the economic crisis we are living through.  The Federal Reserve under Dr. Benanke has admittedly failed to effectively execute it's regulatory mandates.  Dr. Bernake failed to recognize and address the emerging risks and resulting failure of our financial system until after the conflagration got out of control.

Dr. Bernanke's solution now is to recklessly mortgage generations to come with trillions of dollars of unconventional bailouts, backstops, and other innovations for the benefit of financial institutions including foreign banks.  Dr. Bernanke has refused to disclose to people with a need to know, relevant information concerning the operations of the central bank of the United States.  Will you tolerate that?

I am disappointed that President Obama has not taken Dr. Bernanke's dismal performance as cause for removal.  Instead, he is asking you to put your reputation behind someone who has not only failed to do his job, he has endangered our country.

We are blessed with many excellent people who are well qualified to be in charge of the central bank of the United States.  Dr. Bernake has had his chance, and not performed in an acceptable manner.  Why would anyone in good conscience reward those who are proven failures?

Thank you for your consideration of this.

Bernanke needs to go!!! GS and MS need to have their commercial bank status revoked ASAP!!! Mark to mark accounting needs to be applied to all banks ASAP!! No more Prop. trading by banks!!

These logical and simple changes will begin to bring sanity and honesty back to the banking system!!

Maybe it is just my Moldavian imagination, but I think Banana Ben and Mugabe JR. made a weird kind of deal when the market was on its death bed. Two idiots cut from the same cloth. If Banana Ben gets the boot, Mugabe's daily intake of crack is going to at least double so I expect GS&Co to get totally fucked. Funny days ahead boys and girls.

Let's see if any other republicans will wake up or will their new slogan from the deck of the Titanic be; "Bankers first, last & always".
