Risk-FX Decoupling Getting Volatile

Tyler Durden's picture

There has been a distinct regime shift over the past few days in the EURJPY-ES pair. Even though all recent decoupling events have subsequently converged as expected, a more powerful carry trade signal recently has been the AUDJPY. As such we would caution against trading the E&Y decoupling outright as we may be approaching a non-convergence event, or at least recommend that speculators hedge by arbing the AUDJPY as well, where the correlation has been substantially stronger over the past week.

Everyone on the trade is now trying to figure out how to arb Japan hearing "All your base are belong to us" and Australian hearing "prepare to be assimilated" from China.  Oh, did ya'll think that we could print money to pay for our forward operating bases over there FOREVER?

Absolutely agree with this. The equity market's focus is shifting to the double-dip in the US from the implosion in Europe. Hence the euro is a less reliable indicator from now on.

Unrelated but I would like for the Team to create an argument for this thesis:

"BP Deepwater Spill: Who Is Really Responsible?"

If at all possible please drill deep into the details of the relationship between well owner(s), platform owner(s), and crude processing entity.

I'd prefer if you could post something before 5pm this afternoon.

Also unrelated:  I would like for the Team to ignore asinine requests put forth in the in the Imperative Form...(with time limits to boot!).

If at all possible, I'd prefer ZH to ignore Me-Generation-Gone-Wrong-Directives...and I'd prefer ZH to do so immediately.

Oh, and one more thing:

My Mommy and Daddy said I could get whatever I want!

One CONCUR from -1Delta, one unCONCUR from the man with double D's.

Enough Goldman Sac's bullshat, put some meat on the bones of this pathetic website.

It's starting to remind me of that shitrag The Observer. observer.com

When you visit that website(12:10 est) this is the error that you get:
Warning: Deadlock found when trying to get lock; try restarting transaction query: INSERT INTO cache (cid, data, expire, created, headers, serialized) VALUES ('variables'
in /var/www/observer.com/includes/database.mysqli.inc on line 128

Ah, MySQL(Berkeley transaction DB??) on an insecure Linux platform. LoL. Looks like 'Marla' is your IT staff. I love deadlocks. It's like finding a hot easy chick at a bar 1 block from your home....

And still so challenged that you're piping your DB error log to your html output stream. LOL.

Struggling is an understatement.

Who cares? The new icrap err, I mean iphone is out, man! Lets all quit paying our bills and go out and buy a iphone and ipad and sign up for an etrade account and all trade stocks and everything will be just fine!

</sarcasm>

In all seriousness though, it definitely fells like we're on the eve of a major crisis and break down. It has that August/Sept. 08 fell to it.

I wonder what this will do to overall volume.  If the HFTs don't know what to trade, will they slow down until they all settle on which pairs (or tris or quads) to arb?  Or will they amp the shit out of things looking for or creating new correlations?

I noticed it too and I am convinced that it's probably because the selling in equities in the last few days is coming from real-money accounts, and algos don't have enough capital and leverage to force huge FX flows to correlate with large-scale directional equity flows.

This is what happens when you send a woman to do a mans jobs.....

The cave picture is cute and all but hopefully 'Tyler' will order 'Marla' to stay in her new found cave in Sweden! As punishment. Or send her to Disneyland so she can visit her idol Mickey Mouse.

Hint:
Sandbox, Test Client, Production. Never migrate into production without approval from the Test Client lead.

check out eurusd eurjpy (and to a lesser degree the other eur pairs) vs. spx

some 'entities' are really desperate...

imho this isn't built into those hft algos, so atm it looks like a pure double or nothing while running out of chips and/or sitting on a mountain of crap
