Robert Gates Escalates Iran Tensions, As US Delegates Walk Out On Ahmedinejad Speech At UN

Tyler Durden's picture

Just as the White House released a brief note saying the US delegation has walked out on Ahmedinejad's speech at the UN, so Robert Gates was quoted by Reuters saying that "Iran is taking steps to challenge U.S. naval power in the Middle East." The defense secretary added: "Iran is combining ballistic and cruise missiles, anti-ship missiles, mines, and swarming speedboats in order to challenge our naval power in that region." What about weapons of mass destruction? Oh wait... Either way, the only thing from keeping liquidity overflow from taking the Dow to 36,000 is that risk that Oil would hit $1,000/bbl  first. And geopolitical events are just what is preventing the JPMs of the world from using the same harsh tactics as they do with PMs. The last thing this administration needs is a middle-east war which would send a gallon of gas to $5, the stock market tumbling, and the clotheless Ponzi economy exposed, as even without paying one's mortgage, if the price of a refill doubles, there are only so many iPads one can buy.

The 20 year old quote? that has been spun, so the sheepeople that hear the miss quote... will trimble in thier beds at night?

But to be clear, Iran has spent a LOT! of money buying guns and the like for the idiots on the coast...

My opinion is this; ***** "I am disclosing I watched 444 days of that shit on T.V. when I was a child.. so my view may represent some of those feelings." *****

Fuck Iran! and Fuck anyone who stands against my Country. The Liberal fucking Republicans and the Liberal fucking Democrats, fuck them both. I want the mother fuckers head, and if you didnt want to fight you shouldnt have joined the armed forces... fuck all of you liberal make love not war, lets hug it out pussy's.

I have been clear in the path we will go, the thing that pisses me off is that our Government cannot be more honest about it...

Repost.......

Is The US Preparing For "The Total Destruction Of Iran?" The quick answer?! "YES! SIR!”

In Iraq we lacked a paper trail for WMD's that would not have our (our being the U.S.A.'s) finger prints all over the documents...

The Russian's as the second largest producer of oil would be happy to see the Middle East get irradiated, broadly speaking... and thusly... would happily provide the paper trail for the equipment that they the Russian's did provide and how it was easily modified by Iran (who is now out of warranty because of the modifications).  http://www.eia.doe.gov/cabs/Russia/Background.html

Russia-Iran nuclear deal signed  ***(Sunday, 27 February, 2005, 12:56 GMT)***

Russia and Iran have signed an agreement for Moscow to supply fuel to Iran's new nuclear reactor in Bushehr.

Under the deal Iran has to return spent nuclear fuel rods from the reactor, which was designed and built by Russia.

So, since we learned our lesson last time… and we will need to have good proof… due to the cycle of time between the invasions… we don’t have time to wait for a generation to forget and die off… thusly, paper trail or “Proof” not an issue…

Yes, Iran is going to have a change of leadership… will it be us (us being the U.S.A. proper) or will it be Israel? Israel can bomb the leadership and Mullah’s in short order… cruise missiles are accurate to 10 feet.. (more like 30 feet, but close enough) and in this massive one blow, decapitate the snakes many heads along with the most staunch supporters of what is the Iranian’s craziness… We should have stepped in during the election… but one crazy for another and all that… plus Israel is tired of being beaten on… they need a win, to keep up moral at home.

Anyone who says this is not happening… is lying to themselves. The best part is the eagle and the bear in the holy valley, ala George Bush the evangelical… he really might have been the anti Christ. Because there is no walking this back.

Actually, the lot of them are a pretty handsome bunch.  Nice blend of Semitic/SW Asian.  Too bad their pres looks like a ferret.

I wonder though...  I know the quote by Iminadinnerjacket has been supposedly mis-mashed-wrong quoted, but if that's the case, why doesn't Iran go out of it's way to set the record straight?

Oh yeah...  Because they've been funding Hezbollah!

I actually have a solution:  Take that $300b a year in aid to Israel, and buy them a patch of land 3x the size on the coast of Texas, adjacent to the Rio Grande.  Then pick up and re-build, brick by brick, every structure they want to take with them, on this new land.  We'll call it New Jerusalem, and this time it will be bordered by bible-belters and Catholics, so the Jews will be safe (except for proselytizers trying to convoit them, no-no-no, no).

Then they can abandon that patch of arid sand...  And the Arabs can go back to killing each other in tribal warfare - without any convenient scapegoats to distract themselves from how little they've acomplished in the last 1200 years.

I dont hate the idea... but I want the idiots that are in power in Iran out... its personal, it is not a logical thought that motivates me... although the sweet light crude that Iran has could help stabilize the price of oil thusly keep the global expansion of trade moving along minus a larger price shock than has already occured.

How much are we going to spend to keep global trade moving? how much does it cost the U.S. to maintain the lie that oil is $70 bucks a barrel?

All the money being cut from the budget... plus new debt... for what? a higher or better quality of life here at home becuase there is not a war going on somewhere else?

The Texas solution (and Uganda) was actually tabled by the Zionists in the 1930s. If nut heads find the Iranian thing "personal" Imagine how everyone booted out of their houses by the Zionists feel. Pretty damned pissed off is the answer. a little p.s. - Israel ceated and funded Hamas in an attempt to undercut and destroy Fatah... they didn't expect, however, that Hamas would get such a following ... or maybe they did, and that was the plan all along...

I think that maybe you missed the point of the rapture stuff I was posting... I am anti-evangelical... those who pontificate about "Hell Fire!" and spread the word to bring about the rapture are parying for the end of the World and thusly the end of American... which is Treason, in my book... look at the post with a lil sarcasm and you will see where I was going with it...

Now as far as the Israeli's... I Love them... the Muslim's or three Countries (Egypt, Jordan, and Syria. The Arab states of Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Tunisia, Morocco and Algeria also contributed troops and arms) that are predominantly Muslim, attacked Israel… and it was Allah’s will that Israel keep their lands, all of their lands and then some… God’s will was for Israel to win the war and extend its borders. God willed it and it was done, the people who attacked an already surrounded Israel got what they deserved… NOTHING!!!

I am Catholic, I LOVE JESUS! And Jesus was a Jew born in Israel, that’s a fact… so all of the Evangelicals… who would sit and talk, I mean spread the word… verses WANT (not be forced too) fight to maintain the birth place of Christ my Lord and Savior can Fuck the Fuck Off!

To date, the hippies… the Conservative Evangelicals and the like have been the driving force behind what goes on… I would LOVE! too see a Lion Heart type get control of the steering wheel for an election or two… I bet any amount of money that all of the bullshit that goes on now… day in and day out… would cease in short order. They want a Holy War, well lets fucking give them one... A Holy War that ends all others before they have a chance to start... And if we happen to meet our energy needs for the next 100 years in the process as well, Kudos then. I have been clear on my feelings of leaving a Thank You card after we pump the desert dry.

Iran is a threat, Iran has been the money behind Hezbollah and enough is enough… I am not saying we should kill everyone in Iran… just the leadership that allows for women to be stoned to death, that kind of idiocy has no place in a kind and modern world. http://www.apostatesofislam.com/media/stoning.htm

You can consider my views extreme and you would be absolutely correct… Fuck Iran’s leadership and Mullahs… killem all and let God sort them extremists out.

Don't use it as a pretext to start a war, and try to distract from the corruption of the privately owned Fed cartel, and all the other banksters, fraudsters, Rothchilds, Rockerfellers etc.

there is clearly an existential threat to Israel, who is one of our few steadfast allies in the region.

I don't buy it.  There's absolutely no economic incentive for Iran to nuke Israel.  In fact, the exact opposite.  If that regime wants to retain power, it would serve them best not to put their people in a position for more suffering via war or economic sanctions.

A nuke to them is a bargaining chip, not an end of the world, religious fanatical doomsday mission tool.

I don't buy into the fear mongering our Gov has saturated us with.  There are other governments that we could be concerned about from a humanitarian standpoint: Burma, various African states, China etc etc.

I'm in agreement. Only our government has already been captured, and those that captured it are always on the look-out for more governments to add to their control. As far as a bargaining chip, we know Pakistan has nukes, and it's not stopping the slow motion invasion of them.

Iran hasn't started a war with anyone in over 2,000 years. The country isnt even lead by Ahmawhateverjihad. Khamenei runs Iran. Ahmawhateverjihad essentially has the same amount of control over Iran as Barry S has over the US, which is to say, not much.

Israel likes to fingerpoint at Iran's president even though they know the nut is just a puppet. But admitting as much foils Israel's plan to turn much of the middle east into a glass parking lot. Before Israel does anything stupid, Khamenei will no doubt come out and speak his piece, then the great lie will be laid bare for everyone to witness.

The Iranian leader has vowed to "wipe off the map" approximately 6,000,000 people.

"Soviet premier Nikita Khrushchev famously used an expression generally translated into English as 'We will bury you!' while addressing Western ambassadors at a reception at the Polish embassy in Moscow on November 18, 1956. In fact, it was somewhat distorted. The actual quote reads: 'Whether you like it or not, history is on our side. We will dig you in.'"

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/We_will_bury_you

Accurate or not, this phrase was repeated at least a million times for the rest of the cold war by press and politicians, in support of a limitless military buildup. Whenever some naive fool suggested a mutual de-escalation of hostilities might even be possible, the instant reaction was "We cannot deal with a country that has vowed to bury the United States". If Nikita had .001% of the weapon systems he helped to sell, he could have retired as a very rich capitalist.

Look at history.  We already turned in our peak quarter of growth in the fourth quarter and it's going down now.  That does not bode well.  Consumer spending is not organic and if you can't see that I don't know how to help you.  Depleting savings does not equate to organic growth, or maybe it's all the jobs being created.  Of course you'll be back on Friday when the NFP comes out with a number that looks good but mostly temp(census) workers.  I have seen many many many studies that show that we need to create on average 150-250k jobs on the NFP number every month for 5 plus years to bring unemployment down, what do you think???  Will we hit another issue before then, of course we will, so unemployment will remain well beyond the 9.7% posted because there are no jobs to put people back to work doing.  SO HOW DO YOU CREATE A SUSTAINABLE RECOVERY WITHOUT JOBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But once again facts bother you.  You missed the car sales number also.  You don't mention that more than a third of this GDP number was inventory again, not sustainable, and there is a study out by Rosenburg that shows on their models that GDP would be .7% if you stripped out all the govt. stimulus.  GREAT RECOVERY HUH!?  It's fleeting is the point, we are not in a sustainable pattern and to beleive likewise is foolish.  Besides I seemed to recall that the market is priced for almost 6% real GDP this year?  Not happening, so wouldn't that suggest that the market is way overpriced???

As we're seeing right before us, you can create a sustainable recovery without jobs. Obviously people are spending at levels we haven't seen in quite some time. Doesn't that fly in the face of everyone who claims you can't have a jobless recovery?

The market is priced for nearly 3% GDP this year, not 6%. That is very doable and certainly attainable, if not even higher. If we were to get 6% growth, this market would be much, much higher.

Harry the market is priced for something closer to 6%.

Yep sustainable, let's see what you think in less than two years, less than 6 months does not make sustainable and halving GDP in the same six months doesn't show sustainability, not to mention stripping out inventory correction and then GDP is almost negative, yep sustainable.

Now let's talk about the market, most stocks are priced near their all time highs yet turning a fraction and I do mean a fraction of the revenue they had 3 years ago.  MAKES SENSE, KINDA LIKE OIL, MAKE HALF THE MONEY DOUBLE THE STOCK, OIL USE IS DOWN 30% FROM A YEAR AGO BUT TWICE THE PRICE>>>>YEP IT ALL MAKES SENSE.

YOU PROBABLY BELIEVED ALSO WHEN THEY SAID $150 BBL OIL DOESN'T HURT THE ECONOMY.

Short-term consumption growth can be borrowed from the future through debt expansion or savings liquidation, says John Williams of Shadowstats, but those funding sources are short-term and not sustainable.  In his April 30 report, Williams says, "In monthly reporting for January and February 2010, real disposable income was contracting versus the fourth-quarter."  He said Friday's "GDP report showed first-quarter real disposable income to be unchanged from the fourth-quarter. While such implies either an uptick in the March income numbers to be released Monday (today), or upside revisions to the January and February data,  the government still showed no growth in real disposable income in the first-quarter versus the fourth-quarter.

"Real consumer credit, which has been reported only for January and February 2010, also was contracting in the first-quarter versus the fourth-quarter."

Says Williams: "In combination, these numbers show no basis for sustainable growth in personal consumption…"

So this may take years and not months and if it take 3 months Summer tourism in Louisiana, and Florida are out the window. Eventually this leak will devastate Caribbean tourism. It will surely cripple the our domestic source of most  seafood and since it only takes 1 quart of oil to make 250k gallons of ocean toxic I imagine that this could kill all of the Oceans sea life if this goes on for a year+. Surely this is good for jobs and the economy globally

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.  Now that is real comedy.  You should go on the road with that one.  It aint getting capped/plugged in a week.

I will take the other side of that bet anytime you want to put your money on the table.

Not to diminish the serious problem, but the reports indicate that the sunken rig is not resting right on top of the well head and the blow-out-preventer, so they do not have to remove the wreck before they can get to the well head. That said, I am sure that the depth itself represents a huge challenge for the attempts to remedy the situation.

With tensions mounting in the Middle East, isn’t it time to lay all the cards on the table, including a U.S. declaration on Israel’s extensive nuclear capability, and rocket potential?  It would put these saber-rattling comments by Gates, as reported on HAARETZ.com April 27,  into perspective:

U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates said on Tuesday that Hezbollah has more missiles than most governments in the world, during a joint press conference with Defense Minister Ehud Barak in Washington.

"Syria and Iran are providing Hezbollah with so many rockets that they are at a point where they have more missiles than most governments in the world," said Gates.

Barak told reporters that Syria was transferring weapons systems to Hezbollah and that Israel is closely watching the developments, though he assured Israel did not plan to provoke a conflict…

Gates echoed the defense minister's statements and said that "U.S. defense relationship with Israel is stronger than ever," and added that the two countries "share many of the similar security challenges."

Gates also referred to the U.S. action regarding Iran and said he was satisfied with Pentagon planning to counter the threat posed by Iran's nuclear program.

"I'm very satisfied with the planning process both within this building and in the inter-agency. We spend a lot of time on Iran and we'll continue to do so," Gates said.

I mean really, how dare they have a navy and defensive capabilities in their own area.

bloody cheek, "challenging US naval power" ..I mean it's only 7,243 miles from the bloody US.

why on earth would a nation feel it needs to defend itself from the US anyway, I mean its not like they go round invading random countries for their own devious motives or anything is it?

or backstopping other (nuclear) nations on the Iranian's doorstep for financial reasons or anything?

whereas the Iranians are well known for their global empire building over the millenia.

more brute force conditioning of the people.

"group think" at the expense of self determination of individuals/nations seems characteristic among nations as powers that opperate beyond the sphere of influence of the voting populace move the governments they influence towards collectivism using the war on terror, climate change, the financial crisis and ultimatly it seems Iran as the lesson of what happens if an sovergn decides to become the example of self determination in a world captured moving ever closer towards collectivism.

they could also scuttle enough ships to block the straight.
