Scotia Mocatta Sells Out Of All Silver Bars

Tyler Durden's picture

When a week ago we noted that ScotiaMocatta sold out of the Valcambi 1 kg block, yet once again showed the 100 oz silver bar as  back in stock, we said: "We will keep tabs on how long before this also becomes "sold out."" We have the answer and it is 7 days. As of today, Canada 's biggest bullion bank is out of not only the 100 oz silver bar, but all silver bars! This follows yesterday's news that in January the US mint sold 50% more silver than in any month before.

A screen capture of ScotiaMocatta's online store page as of January 24...

And as of today:

Well,

I have always said eventually we will have a deflationary collapse. But perhaps not before an inflationary nightmare that causes the deflation. But someone here said something a few weeks ago that made sense to me. "Even if deflation finally does happen, Precious metals may take an initial hit but will then sky higher as the US dollar will no longer be the World's reserve currency". And with other currencies using Gold and Silver as backing of their currencies (Ahem, China) the metals will spike again anyway.

Plus I hate JPM Chase...so I just bought 20 US Silver Eagles. 20 Silver Maple Leafs and 10 / 10oz Silver Bars. Just dipping my toe in the water. Hopefully that shark Blythe won't bite it off!

Blythe feeds on paper, you are safe.

Precious metals do great in deflation, because of the uncertainty in the markets.  What bottomed first during the last "Financial Crisis"?  Precious metals bottomed in the Fall of '08.  Compare that to equities in the Spring of '09, and you see what bounces back first.  If Muni Madness and an EU default hit at the same time (not to mention US State default) we could have massive deflation, but where will money run?  Probably high grade corporate bonds, and maybe the dollar, but precious metals trade well on a higher dollar.  I think that is because of the truth that people have to spend dollars while they have them.  What better to buy than PMs?

If there are any PMs to buy! Don't forget in the fall of '08 PMs were still being massively manipulated. When the crash comes, physical will be free of it's chains. Hallelujah, eyes to the sky my friend.

I order my PMs from my local, small town Royal Bank branch. London Spot price, plus $60 an ounce premium on gold, plus $15 delivery charge for any amount. Delivered in 2 or 3 days, then I put it in a safety deposit box in their vault.

I buy bars or wafers because Harmonized sales tax is charged on coins but not on bars which doesn't make much sense but that is the rule.

The shortage is coming the important thing is to buy physical silver and wait.In the latest news Xia Bin of China's central bank stated that they will buy silver (and gold) for their silver (and gold) reserves in every dip for a long time in the future. This is another important matter that noone imagined it before.Central banks to start buying physical silver for their reserves. The latest Commitment of Traders report showed commercial hedgers to close more of their short positions. The risk is to the upside ,otherwise the hedgers would increase their shorts ...So buy silver and wait!Profits are coming sooner or later!

Here's a thought experiment, anybody:

Drudge reported from Wikileaks yesterday that Al-Qaida was on the brink of being able to make a dirty bomb. No surprise there, really.

But suppose they pull a Goldfinger and use it on the FRBNY to make the gold radioactive and useless? NY is already a favorite target and we know they're not stupid (sometimes).

Anybody have the technical explanation what would happen to the underground reserves with an above ground dirty bomb? Contaminated or shielded by 5 stories underground concrete? How contaminated? How bad? Unfortunately, it is reported they have access to some uranium (enriched) and plutonium. Which is as bad as it gets.

And what happens to the gold market?  I can only imagine. I suppose Ari Goldfinger was right?

We are talking specifically about 100 ozt. and larger bars. Tulvig says "more than 200 in stock" for JM/Englehard. They are selling new JM bars, but don't specify a quantity. APMEX has around 546 @ 100 ozt. and 2 @ 1000 ozt.

Will London and the Comex pull a "Hunt Brothers" and only accept sell orders soon ?

The UK and US are so desperate to keep the kingdoms financial markets flush with cash there is no price discovery "of anything".

Whether you want to accept it or not the continuing financial meltdown is being padded or softened by the kingdoms while they "buy-time" to muscle the "real" assets from the masses for a later sale back to them at a "HUGE" profit.

Make sure you have your affairs together (best you can) to weather this.

as they say in China "it's a slow road to China" !

I purchased a 100 oz sillver bar from http://bullion.nwtmint.com/silver_nwtmintbullion.php. I have to wait a long time before I receive the bullion.  Notice in the memo below that they say "shipping window" and not "delivery window".  Here is an email I got from them :

Thank you for sending your payment to Northwest Territorial Mint. Your Personal Check in the amount of $2,851.00 was received January 31st, 2011 and posted. Trade #xxxxxxxxx is now paid in full with an estimated shipping window of APRIL 4 - 8. An e-mail will be sent to you the evening that your order is shipped with your tracking numbers included. If there is any delay in shipment you will be notified by e-mail.

NWTM is notorious for not delivering on a timely basis. Google them and you will see... at one point the state AG was after them.

My suggestion is demand your FRN's back and get what Apmex has. If you absolutely have to have NWTM fabricated silver then try First Majestic.

Wed, 02/02/2011 - 14:39 | 928022 Pegasus Muse

NWTM tells customers up front the current Order to Ship time when you place your order.  Their sales people tape record the order so they'll have proof they did not mislead the customer.

The good thing about this mint is their low prices plus their free shipping/insurance when you pay by check.  The draw back is takes longer for you to get your order delivered because of the high demand.  My recent silver orders have been taking around 8 weeks arrive, more or less.

If you want your metal faster, you can order from their retail outlet, but it will cost more --- about 3% more if you use a credit card --- plus you pay for the shipping and insurance.

Some people on this board obviously have a beef with NWTM and regulary post negative comments about them.  I have always gotten good service from them.  They have always been honest and up front with me.  ymmv

To all the people who believe we have no price manipulation in silver, then how is it we can have a shortage.  I mean with open market price discovery, there can never be a shortage.  Price fixing is what we have, led by the criminal Fed Reserve, therefore we have shortages.  If the price was allowed to seek a natural equilibrium at a higher price, sellers would emerge thus ending the shortage.

Gold is transitioning from one set of channels to the next. I have seen this before, it is a confirmation sign of the trend change.

GBP looks like a breakout on the futures, it is .3 above the breakline. Although it already did a pullback and retest, hard to buy the long here with short term overbought, it could easily retrace back to the breakline and a .3 move on futures is quite a bit of money. Just watching for the moment.

Joe, APMEX has been closed for the last couple of days because of the snow storm.  All items available for sale are on the website. If an item is not for sale the box to right will show an "alert me".  If item is shown and no alert me put "9999" in quantity box and if less than that number available for sale a popup will show exact number available for sale at that time.  By the way, APMEX is the largest online precious metals dealer in the U. S. and ships to 25 foreign countries.  If you want a true representation of the status of the availability of precious metals in the U. S. I suggest you visit the APMEX site rather than a sole assayer.  APMEX is an authorized purchaser of silver from the U. S. Mint and is near the front of the line at a myriad of government and private mints throughout the world.  If APMEX is having trouble getting live product you can bet every company is.  I often hear of shortages which I know do not exist.  APMEX should be your bellwhether.  At the moment this is what APMEX has available in 100 sbars (557 JM 100 sbars)
These will ship around 2/18.  Correct, APMEX has none live.

As low as $.99 per oz over spot!

An index of 100oz silver bars available might help us track physical inventory, with live feeds from APMEX, Scotia, Bullionbypost, etc. Maybe 10-12 big vendors, or so.

If you someone knows of one? If not, could be a Zerohedge innovation, to stay ahead of the pack.
