Good Morning fellow ZH'ers -

As you read through this thread, you may come to the conclusion that there was some nefarious reason for the "hot potato" I dropped into this post.  Not the case.  however, I would like to bring your attention to concerns some on this site have.  How about an open forum post as suggested by Crockett?  We can discuss our points of view from a clean slate.  Thank you.

Lots of media heat about a building that in fact
doesn't even exist.

Here's some light.

Be prepared to be surprised.

http://www.brasschecktv.com/page/917.html

There is no "Ground Zero" Mosque

You've got to hand it to the right wing and wing nut news media.

They've mastered the art of creating "reality" out of hot air.

There is no mosque being built on so-called Ground Zero.

45 Park Place is only loosely in the neighborhood of the World Trade Center.

It's not a mosque. It's not a massive structure dominating Ground Zero. It's an small existing building that has sat empty since September 11, 2001. The plans call for it to be converted to a community center.

But that kind of basic factual information have never interfered with the US news media's hate mongering.

This is an Islamic "education" center.  There will be Islamic education and worship going on there regardles.  Whether one calls it a "mosque" is pure semantics.

Here are some quotes directly from the Qur'an, which I offer without comment:

Qur'an:8:12: "I shall terrorize the infidels. So wound their bodies and incapacitate them because they oppose Allah and His Apostle."

Qur'an:8:57: "If you gain mastery over them in battle, inflict such a defeat as would terrorize them, so that they would learn a lesson and be warned."

Qur'an:8:67: "It is not fitting for any prophet to have prisoners until he has made a great slaughter in the land."

Ishaq:327: "Allah said, 'A prophet must slaughter before collecting captives. A slaughtered enemy is driven from the land. Muhammad, you craved the desires of this world, its goods and the ransom captives would bring. But Allah desires killing them to manifest the religion.'"

Ishaq:304, Tabari VII:62: "I cut off Abu Jahl's head and brought it to the Messenger. 'O Allah's Prophet, this is the head of the enemy of Allah.' Muhammad said, 'Praise be to Allah.'"

In all religions there are followers who literally interprete the writings found in their historic books.

It appears to me that while progressives readily decry literal Christians, they seem to overlook the possibility that there exist literal Muslims as well and that their "book" contains passages that encourage war, death and terror.

Just pointing out an apparent inconsistency that you can dissonance on.  If I am misinformed, please enlighten me.

I won't bother to look up the quotations because we're all familiar with them, but in the Old Testament, God told the Jews to kill all the Canaanites (?) and take their land because God liked the Jews best.

In the New Testament, Jesus says that he comes not to bring peace but rather and sword and he will cause families to fight amongst themselves.

Correct.  What the New Testament doesn't make clear, though, is whether Jesus was saying Christians would be holding the sword or at the pointy end.  Certainly, in his own time, they were much more at the pointy end.

Without agreeing or disagreeing on the merits of the location of the mosque or even its purpose, if the structure is so innocuous, then why does it cost $100 million to build?

Exactly.

They are building a mosque on top of the rubble from their successful attack. Literally. It is what they have always done. It's name is Cordoba, which was the name of a caliphate in Spain after the Muslim conquest of Spain.

Where is the money coming from to build it?

OT post shoved down throat of ZH members on an inflammatory topic that is clearly designed to draw the participants into a debate that will inevitably end up with the 'racist' label hurled at the right leaning participants from the left leaning participants.

The information being brought to light on ZH is contrary to the rainbows and unicorns image of the market and economy that powers that be want us to accept.  You really have to wonder if it is being done deliberately by nefarious sources so that they can bring to light the true 'racist' nature of the site with the end goal being to discredit it.  Best to flag as junk and move on.

Probably so. I have been concerned with this for some time.

However, the interloper can be discredited easily and should be, so the normal discussion of the topic at hand can continue in my view.

Village Idiot started down this particular road. Please reconsider your accusation. Bearing false witness against one's forum neighbors constitutes bad form.

that will inevitably end up with the 'racist' label hurled at the right leaning participants from the left leaning participants.

I lean neither left nor right, I am an individual. I also stand firmly behind the civil and property rights of one and all. I am no more afraid of the Islamic center than I was of Iraq's imaginary WMDs or Iran's non-existent nuclear weapons program. If you want to criticize folks, it would be nice if you would try to do it by considering actual facts and reality in general.

Why do people who are so very afraid always talk tough? Make tea not war.

Yes, we need an open thread. Love the junking below of the gay bar idea by those out raged at the people who don't want a mosque built near Ground Zero.

But the "gay bar idea" is specifically meant as an inflammatory diversion.  What would you say if Larry Flynt said "I want to open a porn shop next to your Church?"

Who could consider such a thing to be a legitimate business offering with a reasonable expectation of profit? Such a proposal would be seen as a provocative insult and nothing more and you know it. If Flynt proposed such a thing would you stand up in church and praise his entrepreneurial skill in order to prove that you are not a hypocrite?

If there was a real economic desire for a gay Muslim club in Manhattan I would heartily approve. But one would expect that such a club would be operated by either gay Muslims or someone who is gay Muslim friendly. I don't believe that the fellow quoted by Village Idiot seriously expects to run a successful club in this case. Do you?

But if the fellow really wants to spend his investors money on such a loosing proposition, let's see some headway. The more they bleed cash the less money they'll have to promote their special brand of American entrepreneurial spirit and Christian love.

Sick of the people wanting to baby the Muslims over this.  They've been around a couple thousand years and survived plenty of wars...a fucking gay bar across the road from the Mosque is not going to kill them.

This is good for them.  This is a big fat kiss on the cheek from the good ol' US of A.  Welcome to America Muslims!! Better get thick skinned quick and prepared for controversy because your belief system is about to get you attacked by the very people that are embracing you now.  The sooner you learn this the sooner you can start compromising like all the other religions before you.

I'd love to see the business plan for this venture. What might be the expected return on investment? You seem fairly keen on the prospects for Muslim gay bars, any chance you'll put your money where your mouth is?

To answer your question, I just returned from Copenhagen (with my wife).  We stayed with friends that live there and the Muslim/Gay issue was a hot topic.  The anti-gay sentiment in the Muslim community has culminated into physical attacks and threats against the gay community.  It's upside down world.  Gays now have to question the routes of Gay Pride parades thru Muslim neighborhoods as not to be perceived as anti-Muslim and to avoid voilence.

So if the guy opening the NYC gay bar will turn this into an actual establishment and not just a no content flashing neon light fuck you sign across the street from the mosque ....then I'll have no problem throwing a few dollars in.  Even if it winds up being a shell of an establishment merely there to make a point...we're supposed to be a tolerant country and if the Muslims have a problem with it...can't we all just get along?  With that said so far I have not seen anyone on their end actually saying anything about it only ass-clowns like us feel the need to make war over it.

The ROI is already there in that it shows the hypocrisy of those that feel the right to judge motives behind the opening of an establishment and at the same time condemning others for doing the same.

Would you support the opening of a gay bar next door to a Christian establishment? Many Christians also oppose homosexuality while desiring freedom for themselves.

Greg Gutfield To Open A Gay Bar Next To Ground Zero Mosque To Cater To “Islamic Gay Men”

by Jon Bershad | 8:23 pm, August 9th, 2010

No, this is not a joke.  In fact, it is instead one of the most brilliant pieces of provocations in recent years.  Greg Gutfield from Fox News’ Red Eye announced today via his blog that he is actively speaking to investors and plans on opening a gay bar next to the controversial mosque being built near Ground Zero in New York.  To make matters worse (better?) the bar will be specifically designed to cater to homosexuals of the Islamic faith.  God, this is going to be an exciting block.

Here’s Gutfield’s entire post which he will expand upon during tonight’s Red Eye:

“So, the Muslim investors championing the construction of the new mosque near Ground Zero claim it’s all about strengthening the relationship between the Muslim and non-Muslim world.

As an American, I believe they have every right to build the mosque – after all, if they buy the land and they follow the law – who can stop them?

Which is, why, in the spirit of outreach, I’ve decided to do the same thing.

I’m announcing tonight, that I am planning to build and open the first gay bar that caters not only to the west, but also Islamic gay men.  To best express my sincere desire for dialogue, the bar will be situated next to the mosque Park51, in an available commercial space.

This is not a joke.  I’ve already spoken to a number of investors, who have pledged their support in this bipartisan bid for understanding and tolerance.

As you know, the Muslim faith doesn’t look kindly upon homosexuality, which is why I’m building this bar.  It is an effort to break down barriers and reduce deadly homophobia in the Islamic world.

The goal, however, is not simply to open a typical gay bar, but one friendly to men of Islamic faith.  An entire floor, for example, will feature non-alcoholic drinks, since booze is forbidden by the faith.  The bar will be open all day and night, to accommodate men who would rather keep their sexuality under wraps – but still want to dance.

Bottom line: I hope that the mosque owners will be as open to the bar, as I am to the new mosque.  After all, the belief driving them to open up their center near Ground Zero, is no different than mine.

My place, however, will have better music.”
