Secretary of the Navy Hatches Brilliant Plan to Sell More Gulf Seafood and Transport Oil to the War Zone

An unknown quantity of Gulf seafood is tainted with oil and/or dispersant. See this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this and this.

Some have speculated that Gulf seafood would be quietly sold to makers of cat and dog food, to avoid public scrutiny.

But the Secretary of Navy has a different idea – force the good men and women in our armed services to eat it.

As the Times Picayune reported yesterday:

Navy Secretary Ray Mabus, who doubles as President
Barack Obama’s point man on Gulf Coast oil spill recovery, is pressing
America’s armed services to consume as much Gulf seafood as possible.

 

Navy Capt. Beci Brenton said Monday that Mabus has talked with
Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and the secretaries of the Air Force
and Army, and his staff has talked to the Defense Commissary Agency,
which operates a worldwide chain of stores for military personnel,
making the point “that we should be buying Gulf Coast seafood.”

I have friends who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the thought
of folks in our armed services being fed Gulf seafood angers me.

Of course, the U.S. considers oil to be a national security issue, and the government spends a lot of money to get oil over to the various war theaters.

Indeed, BP is the main contractor supplying oil to the U.S. military.

The cynical might argue that Secretary Mobus is being callous in allowing our good service men and women to eat tainted seafood.

But maybe Secretary Mobus has an ingenious plan to cheaply
transport BP oil into Iraq and Afghanistan: shipping Gulf seafood to
commissaries and mess halls, and then having the troops march on their
stomachs and transport the oil out into the field.

Yes, the last sentence is parody.

There are many worthy destinations for Gulf Seafood come to mind, like the Senate Dining Room and the partners eatery at Goldman.  Our boys and gals in Brioni deserve the best.

We all know that "The Lie" doesn't need to make any sense or even conform to reality, just that it must support prior lies or lay the ground for future lies. And just as important, to satisfy the need of those who wish to believe to lie to continue to believe the lies.

"Daddy, tell me another lie so that I may believe it's the truth."

I have a friend who was married to a serial cheater. Every time he was caught cheating he would make extravagant promises and incredibility she accepted his lies time after time. This went on for 7 years. When he finally left my friend, she was shocked and dismayed and thus deeply heartbroken. Three years later, she still hasn't recovered.

Yet no one, let alone my friend, is willing to discuss why she continued to accept his lies. Who's the real and fundamental problem here, the serial cheater or the person who is desperate to believe the lies? And is there any difference between this anecdote and the American people?

The serial victim is just another type of addict with the same underlying issues. Thus a serial victim is afflicted with victimism. It doesn't matter what comes in front as long as it's followed by the "ism".

The same applies to the average American citizen consumer. We are serial victims and are thus terminally ill with victimism.

Actually I did something close to that about 6 months ago. I still consider her a close friend. She no longer feels the same way about me.

If you think about it, for those who are in deep denial it's worth it to lose a friend rather than face yourself. You can replace friends but you might not survive the ego destruction of a fearless self examination.

I have a deep seated memory of a near death situation many decades ago. I was 19 and had my Chevy Impala up on blocks to remove and replace the standard transmission. Short story, I figured I could do it myself. On my back under the transmission as I unbolted it, thinking I could lift the weight. When it settled onto my chest, I couldn't get enough leverage in my arms to lift it back off. It was much heavier than I expected and it had me pinned to the ground with the transmission jammed between the sides and me. I couldn't move.

So there I was on the ground for 7 hours during December cold in New England in the back of the house I rented with a room mate who was away for the weekend. I hollered and screamed and cried and eventually made my peace and was ready to die from the deeply set hypothermia. Then a friend came by to party and, failing to get a response to the door bell, came around the back side of the house. I heard him and started to scream again.

He called the police and fire department and I was out in 10 minutes. It took a full 24 hours before I warmed up again. Memories of near death last a lifetime.

I survived my stupidity. Some don't and become statistics. I got lucky because I was near death and hallucinating. I thought the friend who came around the back was an angel coming to get me and I didn't want to be overlooked under the car.

At the time I didn't know it was my friend. So I was actually calling for the angel to come get me, not my friend. The story of my rescue was related to me by the police and family at the hospital the next day when I became lucid.

In the constant Fascist quest to augment corporate profits, I thought the tainted shrimp and fouled fish would be used as weapons against the brown people that live there. Are you sure the Air Farce isn't going to drop it on the opium crop and throw lit matches at it? Or is the opim is too valuable to burn? Since the troops are there to make sure the money flows the 'right' way anyways...  perhaps the troops won't eat the 'Creatures a la Crude.'

Works for me. Also, when "complying" with any demands from "authorities" I tell them that since I have no "lawful" means to resist I'm only cooperating under a state of duress, and that I morally object to their tyranny. Especially when I have to pay tribute to them yearly just to "own" things like a car, or a cow.

Unless they are armed highwaymen, that is. Then I just play nice and dumb, presenting myself in a totally non-threatening manner. In these instances, going grey and/or bald at a young age pays dividends. They even compound, as every time I get let off, it keeps my record clean longer for the next time.

Indeed. And the history of this Country has been to treat the Veterans like crap, going all the way back to George Washingtons' time. Let us not forget the attack on the Veterans in Washington D.C. during the Great Depression, lead by none other than Dwight Eisenhower, George Patton, and Douglas McArthur.

I was one of the first to point out the use of this toxic crap in pet food. I had thought we had moved on beyond giving it to our soldiers. Silly me. Corporate interests always rule over the military, even still, and I should have seen this one coming.
