Senators Once Again Show They Only Work For The Fed And Wall Street: Vote Vitter Amendment Down 62-37

Tyler Durden's picture

Even as the toothless Sanders amendment passes unanimously and with the full endorsement of Chris Dodd (all you need to know) the Vitter amendment is voted down 62-37. In the meantime, America still pretends it is not a bankster-controlled despotic regime, in which the wealth of the middle class is funneled every day into the Wall Street/Propaganda ponzi. We will provide the rollcall and names of all financially secure for life, pardon, nay voters shortly.

Full roll call address: http://senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/vote_menu_111_2.htm

How so? You asked for 'change', but are being offered less than 'spare change'.

You can't seriously tell me you see any real differences between the two parties, except mb in the rhetoric. Same endgame as far as the malevolent eye sitting atop the pyramid on your increasingly worthless $1 bill can see.

MB you should have voted for some real change in 2008; like a guy who has over 4 decades of documented wins for main street. I bet Ralph Nader wouldn't let GS rape you... at the very least he'd probably force 'em to use some lube and wear a condom; perhaps even a pillow for you to rest your cheek upon.

I already guarantee you before you even post the nay voters that idiots Kay Hagan and Richard Burr from NC voted no.  North Carolina loves welfare and medicaid.  The governor raises taxes, vehicle registration costs, cuts school funding even though there is a North Carolina education lottery they are supposed to be getting funds from that counties never see, layoff teachers, in order to subsidize the welfare projects.

I got 5 more years to work, then I will have enough to move out of this country for good.  It is all crooks and sinners running the show, and I pray GOD has no mercy on them when their time comes.

To address availability of information concerning the meetings of the Federal Open Market Committee, and for other purposes.

Vote 137 deals with the Audit from what is on the link page Tyler posted.

But I see now, where Tylers topic title just refers to the Vitter,  I thought I saw it posted as rejected audit, unless he changed it when he noticed it.  All is good.

Senate Sellout Threatens Congressman Paul’s “Audit the Fed” Bill
Taxpayers Deserve a Full, Transparent Audit of the
Federal Reserve by the GAO

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Ron Paul (TX-14) expressed disappointment that his landmark legislation to audit the Federal Reserve Bank – which passed by a wide margin in the House Financial Services committee and has over 319 House co-sponsors – was threatened by a compromise in the Senate today.

More specifically, Paul’s language (passed by the House) to audit the Federal Reserve has been stripped from the Sanders Amendment to the Senate financial reform bill. Instead, the Sanders Amendment now contains softer compromise language that exempts monetary policy decisions, discount window operations, and agreements with foreign central banks from Government Accounting Office (“GAO”) audit.

This is of particular concern when several countries such as Greece, Portugal, and Spain are seeking IMF help in the midst of their financial crises, because American taxpayers provide fully 17% of all IMF funding.

“Taxpayers are weary of bailing out privileged banks and corporations in the US, and we certainly cannot afford to bail out entire countries. The possibility of this happening behind a veil of Federal Reserve secrecy is not acceptable,” stated Congressman Paul. “This compromise language represents a huge missed opportunity by Congress to finally make the Fed accountable for trillions of taxpayer dollars it administers. Full transparency, via a full GAO audit, is the only acceptable option. However, I am grateful to Senator Vitter for offering the original full audit language in an alternative amendment to the bill.”

The Banks are using profits to pay for their Lobby? not the 0% Fed Window?

http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2009/08/bank-lobbyists/

**** "In the first three months of 2009, the financial sector spent $104.7 million to lobby Congress and the administration, down 8% from the same period last year" ****

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124640640747376775.html

So that I am clear... 2008 was a vintage year for Banks? they made soooooooooooooooooooooo much money on 2008 that in the first 3 months of 2009... they could drop $104.7 MILLION DOLLARS?

Karl Denniger at Market-Ticker.org said pretty much the same thing yesterday:

"You cannot invest or trade in markets that behave this way; it is impossible to go to sleep with a position, either bullish or bearish, and not wake up to find it ridiculously underwater.  This isn't "stability" being demonstrated as the Euro folks and Bernanke claim, it is schizophrenia, it's destructive and it's impossible to be involved in a market that behaves this way without eventually waking up to all your money being gone.

It is time to give up folks and leave the machines to themselves."

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- A controversial measure requiring the government to conduct an unprecedented one-time audit of the Federal Reserve's economic crisis response programs was approved with overwhelming bipartisan support Tuesday by the Senate as part of sweeping bank reform legislation. The amendment also calls for releasing the names of institutions that received in total more than $2 trillion in loans from the central bank during the peak of the financial crisis. The provision received a vote of 96-0, with many lawmakers agreeing to back it following a compromise reached late Thursday. "This makes it clear that the Fed can no longer operate under the kind of secrecy it has been operating under," said Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., the measure's author.

Just like "The Running Man" where the good guy is shown on State TV as ordering the massacre that he actually tried to prevent.

If the State or its whores tell you the sky is blue, it's time to be afraid for your sanity.

Don't get all excited about the yea votes by some, and mistakenly think that they are trying to do right by this country.  Hutchinson and Cornyn both voted "Nay" for Brown-Kaufman, but voted "Yea" for this one.  WTF?!!

Perhaps they were getting heat from their constituents who actually vote, and got a pass to vote yes, given the likely outcome?  I'm going to remember the Brown-Kaufman vote for a loooong time.

* FDIC proposes large banks submit wind-down plans

* Proposes protections for responsible securitizations

* Dugan, Bowman vote against securitization proposal

WASHINGTON - The largest U.S. banks would be required to submit plans to regulators for their dismantling in times of severe distress, and securitizations with higher standards would get federal protection, under two rules proposed by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp Tuesday.

The proposals are aimed at reforming two key drivers of the recent financial crisis -- the perception that some financial firms are "too big to fail," and the repackaging of shoddy loans into securities that flung risk throughout the financial system.

In one rule, the FDIC proposed that about 40 of the nation's largest deposit-taking banks submit to regulators what amounts to a "living will."

There is only ONE way to change this charade, and it ain't through the ballot box. The Bankster Cabal owns the politicians.

You have to starve the beast. Withdraw your participation.

In order to do this, you have to understand that you've been conditioned to work your ass off, pay taxes, and buy shit you don't need. Stop doing that.

Unplug and they will starve. More and more are unplugging.."going Galt"...

Through your dependence on the "system" you have made yourself a slave. You think you will shrivel up and die without your slave owners assistance. Guess what? You are going to shrivel up and die anyways...

So your choice is either to die like a cowardly slave, or die on your own terms.

Some really like being slaves (in it's many forms), they know nothing else and , frankly, it suits them. Let them be, they can't help it.

Others know exactly what I'm talking about and are talking steps to, at least, make an attempt to live in freedom.

Is this plan of yours something around farming and living in some remote area?  I don't think that idea will scare to 305 million, sorry.  All this self-sufficent, rugged-individual stuff is appealing, but it does not address the underlying problem.  It's the coward's way out, frankly.  I don't mean being a rugged individual is cowardly, I mean that it is avoidant and no matter what, it is not "on your own terms" because you were driven to it by externalities.  All it really is is a rationalization, nothing more.
