I'm no financial advisor, nor am I an expert on the markets, so this isn't advice, I'm just thinking out loud. I'm going to assume you mean physical PMs. I'm looking to buy more physical, too, but I'm waiting. I'm buying for the long term, not trying to take some quick profits, and I believe prices will fall further before ramping back up, maybe even fall a lot further. It seems to me that silver reversed and the attempt to rally back to the previous level is getting exhausted. I believe a drop to at least the low 20's if not further is within sight. There is a economic contraction under way, regardless of what the MSM propaganda machine wants us to believe. It's a contraction that is global in scope and epic in magnitude, and as a result, a collapse in pretty much all markets is inevitable. I'm not smart enough to time this shit in a rigged environment, but I do think a liquidity contraction is imminent. So, that's why I'm waiting.
By the way, ff you're throwing your post out their just to get ideas, good for you. If you're asking for advice, be wary. Do some research, read some history, look at current conditions and make your own decisions.

I think we could dip into the upper 20s again this summer, but I'm holding for the mid/long-term and wanted to withdrawal some funds before any socialization of 401Ks takes place (50/50 chance?) and also believe we'll hit 50+ in Ag again next winter. The 20% + 10% tax hit on withdrawal does suck but I can make that on silver's next move up.

Just a thought, but Fernando has some pretty clear direction on what is valued if the economic condition totally falls off the cliff. With QE3 (ad Infintum) there is no longer any doubt the path the US Dollar will take. Be warned..his website is not sugar coated...but the facts are there to be shared. You gotta respect the guy for living as best he can in a World gone down the tubes. By the way.. I made the same decision on the 401K/IRA nonsense myself back in 1997. The Tax hit was nothing compared to the secure feeling of no Mortgage debts and cash to buy PM (lots of them in 1999 and 2000, and basic trade items.
As always, the question is timing. I think a socialization of 401Ks is a possibility, but the question is when? I believe that if it does happen, will see evidence that things are moving in that direction, trial balloons will be floated.
The other question is, what would happen to your 401K in the event of a crash in equities, bonds, and commodities, including PMs? There is a lot of evidence that the markets are moving in sync. If you could buy a lot more silver by waiting for it to drop another 40%, that would be smart, but if your 401K is going to lose 40% at the same, not good. You could withdraw some funds from the 401K and sit in cash while you wait, but to take that strategy you would have to have the conviction that all markets will fall enough to justify paying the early withdrawal penalty.
Your personal circumstances will have to factor into your strategy. You're the only one that has all the facts of your circumstances.
On the other hand, a crash could be quite sudden, accounts could be frozen, and an immediate social crisis could erupt. In which case, the most valuable PMs would be brass and lead.

I'm not saying they're going to release DSK, I'm saying Lipsky (all I had to see was his association with JP Morgan to know) will go ahead with the Greek bailout. The German and French banks "coming before everyone and everything else" shouldn't surprise anyone. Politicians and fools keep saying TARP was paid back in full, but the US bought toxic assets from these investment banks and now the country holds them on its books. They should have to buy back their toxic garbage. Also there is now a distinct possibility we may lose money on AIG's bailout. They seem to be heading the way of Bear Stearns. I wonder what their next bailout will look like. What should be done when it becomes abundantly clear that they need a bailout is the US government should force them to sell all profitable assets and they should be allowed to collapse. IMHO, eventually people will lose faith in the banking system not only because there will need to be continuous bailouts, but because of the lack of restructuring/regulating (nothing will change). R.I.P. Glass-Steagall Act.
I would say distinct probability (in the 99th percentile) that the US loses money on AIG. $182B was "given" to AIG.
People will lose faith in the whole political structure, and the institutions associated therewith, because of the lack of change and the banking system (and because bankers continue to enrich themselves as the expense of others).
The other interesting concept associated with TARP is "Opportunity Costs".

I find it amazing the Treasury had to "ask" AIG not to issue all those additional shares so we wouldn't go beneath the break even point. IMHO, wait a few months Timmy, the share price will most likely be below the breakeven point.
