One of the world's largest pension funds is suing Bank of America for more than $90m over its 2008 takeover of Merrill Lynch, claiming the banking giant failed to disclose the full extent of losses at the US investment bank. It's about time pensions got tough, but is it too little, too late?

Germany is openly saying what we all really know, Greece is probably !@#!$%. The problem is, how can Greece go down without pulling half the Euro zone with it? The Greek tragedy saga is much worse than the mainstream media is making it out to be. Reference my annotation on today's Bloomberg article...

I agree with the general precept. Regardless of how "bad" things are right now (and they are very bad for some people), the rest of the world is still VERY JEALOUS of us.

However, this guy is dead on correct about his anger. It is not misplaced, it is not useless. There is some serious social dislocation taking place, and if what Tyler and others here are showing us is true - that dislocation is only just beginning.

They can reflate bubbles over and over, but the impact will be less and less. Eventually the anger will spill over and (as one rube put so eloquently) the tree of liberty will need some watering (that rube being Thomas Jefferson). Unfortunately, the watering will come with some serious social upheaval.

We were put in a bind in 1932 that we have now turned into a Gordian Knot - economically, we rely TOO much on the government and "our rights". Joe Kennedy once wrote that FDR's biggest flaw was a focus on "rights" and not "responsibilities". Indeed, he was SO right.

Today, we're told that EVERYTHING is a right. Cheap gas, never falling stock prices, jobs, health care, a car in every parking space, etc. We have a RIGHT TO HAVE IT ALL - and at no cost to you! Don't worry, the government will pay for it.

There was a time when being jobless meant you actually LOOKED for a job. Tell my wife. She's going to ride out the full 79 weeks of unemployment she gets because "it's a paid year off".

    Good luck, Obama.

The world is jealous of our magic printing press - nothing else.  The problem is that there is a time bomb under it and nobody knows exactly when it will go off.  When it does and our standard of living falls off a cliff, I can assure you they will be jealous no more!

    by straightershooter

The bomb already went off. It was an inverse speed bomb, reaching its maximum speed at the very last second.

We now see the city, county and state government started laying off government union workers, including court, prison, and law enforcement. The speed of the explosion shall approach its maximum speed when you see the federal govenment is laying off federal employees.

Actually, the wolrd is jealous b/c they think that this is the land of opportunity, where anyone has a chance to succeed. Well, what they don't know is this, just try to succeed in a market where the deck is stacked against you. lets's just take the financial market: where if you aren't at the very top of a company, you aint gettin shit! no bailout money for you (you probably lost your job in the process). Don't try to trade your way back into prosperity, b/c the flash traders have that market all tied up. You say you're going to start a business, well sorry mr entrepreneur, lending institutions aren't going to touch you or your great idea, unless of course you get a mez financing from an arm of Goldman, but they will squeeze every last drop of profit out of you, until you go bust (kind of like the restaurant guy that asks Paulie to become his partner in "Goodfellas". Oh, and don't go complaining to your govt. b/c they are too wrapped up in the graft to give a shit or they are too busy selling human organs on the black market.

So in short, they are jealous of the dream, they are jealous of the myth, they are jealous of the same things I am, the america of the past...

Yes, collect 79 weeks of benefit. You deserve it. You pay for it via your employer.

And, remember, don't pay your mortgage if underwater, simply walk away when and only when shriff shows up at the door (it is reported that banks are not going through the foreclosure process).  In the meantime. enjoy your mortgage-free, rent-free home while it lasts. Oh, remember, charge everything to the credit cards until the line is exhausted and preserve your cash. You might need it later.
