Smith & Wesson Shoots Straight

Bruce Krasting's picture

Smith & Wesson, the hand gun maker, threw out some good numbers last quarter. They also gave an improved outlook. The stock was up about 9% on the news.

As leading indicators go this is not a good one. We know that Americans are mad at just about everything. It would appear that they are afraid as well.

Let's do some math on the DHS AMMO SCARE eh?

Winchester is selling 200 million rounds to the DHS over the next FIVE years. POLICE STATE?!?!?!

As of 2007 the DHS has 208,000 employees.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DHS
(right side of page for the #)

200,000,000 million rounds over 5 years on the Winchester contract (60 months) is 3.33 million rounds per month.

Assume HALF of the DHS organization (104,000 employees) is armed and carrying a .40/.45 cal. Perhaps if you're with the DHS and you carry a sidearm you also shoot at a range once per month as part of training/target practice/plunking etc.

3.33 million rounds per month / 104,000 packin' DHS dudes = 32 rounds per month per packin' employee. That's 2-3 clips per month at the shootin' range per employee. We're not outnumbered by ANY measure when it comes to firepower in private door to door hands.

Relax. Hell, I'm glad they're stockin' up too and that an American manufacturer actually got the damn contract. Remember this, the backbone of the military/police/DHS is a lot like you and I with at least as much to lose. I've known, grown up with, and am family with many a career military/police joe, and they don't like the bankster game anymore than we do. Many in uniform will be on OUR side before this situation stabilizes. Don't count them out, but don't trust a uniform on sight either.

I've read the Bill of Rights and who is to say I can't be considered a one man militia.

Decided to hit my therapists office today - I mean the gun range.  Tried to buy .38 and .357 rounds.  The local Walmart ammo shelves looked like a ghost town - empty. The guy on the floor had some interesting perspective, though.  " We got plenty of stuff to kill animals with, but all sold out of the human killing stuff."

I can hardly find .22lr. Only thing on shelves is the really odd calibers after what? 10 freakin' months? This is more than just fear of a new assault weapons ban.

I think it speaks to the wisdom of the crowds, some unconscious knowledge of things to possibly come.  The elites are in control and they are not happy about it. This gun/ammo thing has been on HIGH for quite a while now, despite the fact that the Supremes made it pretty clear that the Second Amendment means the individual right to bear arms, not some hypothetical militia. I am FOR the NRA, and hunt, but I see no particularly and dramatically different efforts under Obama that are any more threatening to gun ownership than any other President in memory that would trigger the actual caching that is going on. No, I think there is something else going on  here - certainly the Anti-Obama crowd is doing what it is doing, but they are not amassing guns and ammo out of any fear that tomorrow they won't be for sale. My opinion, obviously, but I just think the fear of a ban on guns is not enough to explain the phenomena.

Go to any Rural or exurban Walmart or Dicks if you don't know what is going on, and ask a clerk at the gun desk if there are any restrictions on how many 9mm shells you can buy.   You'll find they are all limited because of "unprecedented demand." Think about that next time before you flip someone the bird in a huff while driving.  They might have just come from Walmart.

I can't even find 30.06......that's supposed to be obsolete and not much in demand.

.45 and 9mm.....queue up and stock up.

Their sales are up because of Obama, and fear of gun legislation, not anger.

Afraid my foot. I am a concealed carry permit packing a S&W .45 wherever I go out in public.

I refuse to leave this life on my knees wishing I had something to protect me and family or someone else from a thugger.

The law is a few minutes away, the carry weapon is one option that is availible right away if necessary.

I already have other arms in the home against zombies of fame and fear.

I agree.  I used to be pro gun control and now I see how important the 2nd amendment is and have vowed to get armed soon.  Just look at how other popular revolts have been suppressed by the powers at be - Iran, Burma, China etc.  This country will become a slave state (if it isn't already) if traditionally liberal be people like myself don't get armed.

"now I see how important the 2nd amendment is and have vowed to get armed soon."

Start off with a good shotgun in 12-gauge, Mossberg 500 or Winchester 870. These are the most popular models for many reasons--relatively inexpensive, easy to use and modify, ammo is still pretty easy to find in a variety of loads, and is versatile enough to meet any number of needs, from personal and home defense to urban SHTF to hunting game, if absolutely necessary. You'll have a better idea of what you need from there if you want to purchase more, but ammo availability could be an issue, depending on the caliber of firearm you may decide to buy.

My Mossberg 500 is total junk. They have weak
extractors (the empties stick in the chamber) and
they don't cycle correctly when in
any position except upright (sights facing up). They
are cheap though, and if you get a shell chambered,
it will probably go "bang" once. Don't count on the
second shot, esp w/ magnums with heavy shot.

You also have to make the decision to actually point
it at someone and pull the trigger. You need to do
that before you are in a situation that warrants it.
The opposition is not going to wait for you to load
either. Be very careful, huge responsibility goes
with a loaded gun, and they don't do much good empty.

Now why in the hell would the FBI need 200 MILLION ROUNDS for the next 5 years for?  To help the border control?  Please.

You guys better load up while you still can.  Currency crisis.  Mandatory Vaccs.  Detainment orders.  You couldn't make this shit up if you wanted to.

Fail to plan.  Plan to fail.

I also applied for a concealed weapons permit.
