So Much For Reconciliation: North Korea Warns Of "All Out War" At Press Conference

Tyler Durden's picture

As usual, Hillary Clinton does a bang up job of putting the world on the edge of a tactical nuclear exchange. Bloomberg reports: "North Korean Major General Pak Rim Su refuted the results of the international investigation into the sinking of a South Korean warship and said "any accidental clash that may break out in the waters of the West Sea of Korea or in areas along the Demilitarized Zone will lead to all out war," at a press conference today, according a KCNA statement."

Goldman managing directors are about to be called back into 200 West from the Hamptons if their 19 year old index proppers are unable to resolve this minor blip on the road to world peace and Goldman prosperity.

The eastern world, it is exploding
Violence flarin', bullets loadin'
You're old enough to kill, but not for votin'
You don't believe in war, but what's that gun you're totin'
And even the Jordan River has bodies floatin'

But you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don't believe
We're on the eve
of destruction.

Don't you understand what I'm tryin' to say
Can't you feel the fears I'm feelin' today?
If the button is pushed, there's no runnin' away
There'll be no one to save, with the world in a grave
[Take a look around ya boy, it's bound to scare ya boy]

And you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don't believe
We're on the eve
of destruction.

Yeah, my blood's so mad feels like coagulatin'
I'm sitting here just contemplatin'
I can't twist the truth, it knows no regulation.
Handful of senators don't pass legislation
And marches alone can't bring integration
When human respect is disintegratin'
This whole crazy world is just too frustratin'

And you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don't believe
We're on the eve
of destruction.

Think of all the hate there is in Red China
Then take a look around to Selma, Alabama
You may leave here for 4 days in space
But when you return, it's the same old place
The poundin' of the drums, the pride and disgrace
You can bury your dead, but don't leave a trace
Hate your next-door neighbor, but don't forget to say grace
And… tell me over and over and over and over again, my friend
You don't believe
We're on the eve
Of destruction
Mm, no no, you don't believe
We're on the eve
of destruction.

I don't think so.  Seoul must be defended, so we cannot allow a tactical exchange of artillary across the DMZ.  Pre-emptive strike would be necessary to save 100's of thousands of civilians. There are 10's of thousands of Nork-orcs ready to stream out of tunnels all along the DMZ.  They would have to be stoppered up.

Fri, 05/28/2010 - 11:13 | 379081 novanglus

Tactical nukes to close up those tunnels would be the order of the day.

When I was traveling to Seoul on a regular basis, I would always carry an orienteering compass with me.  The State Department advisory simply said "move south" and we will do our best to get you out of the country.  I wasn't going to sit and wait for anyone to save my ass.  The hotel I stayed in had an underground shopping mall.  at various points, there were 2 inch steel sliding pocket doors which I assumed were the last defense for the foreigners if you were in the hotel when the flood started.

Don't be silly, "all out war" will not involve civilian centers like seoul. Lil kim knows that any attack on civis will result in the state of N. Korea dissapearing from the map almost instantaneously. You guys may not be aware of it, but the U.S. currently has at least three nuclear attack subs in the area. China knows it and so does N. Korea.

Yes, yes, we all know the North would be incinerated.  However, they have 10,000+ artillary pieces trained on Seoul.  That is the threat.

I know, that is why I am saying that the war will be between military targets. The north koreans, or "chinese" as they are less frequently known, are not crazy enough to start wwIII, unless that was actually their goal from the beginning. There is actually a credible argument to made as no one has put forward a decent explanation of why the south korean ship was actually targeted. The whole thing stinks of a shadow war.

China is none too thrilled with lil Kim at the moment and it is quite noticable.  On top of that, saying food shipments will help would be great if the population was not so freaking brainwashed that they believe anything their "beloved leader" tells them.  They starve for him, so no doubt they will also fight for him. I feel bad for the civilians there, but they are just as dangerous as the enlisted when they are called upon.

Internal power struggle between Il Yong and the Military Establishment. AP recently voiced CIAs paper in which this is discussed. Basically, older generals which served the Father never really supported Il Yong in his endeavors and now that he has not yet made the decision about who will succeed him; the generals are pulling their heads together and doing things like this. Basically they know Il Yong does not have much time left [and, CIA said he is severely ill; both mentally and physically so it is dubious how influential he still is in NK] and the generals want to make sure they get the support they need from the international community when the succession becomes the central point in NK politics. And the only way they can do this, is if they exacerbate the threat which Il Yong poses to the peace in the region, and the threat which will become more severe if his son takes his role. They want openness and re-unification of the peninsula.

No. 1 son is well-educated (Swiss boarding schools) and speaks English. I'm not sure about your logic here. China and Japan do not want reunification because it would create an economically powerful, nuclear-armed state where there was once chaos. The Koreans are a proud and resourceful people. In my travels in Asia I've never seen harder workers.

Who said anything about China or Japan.

Read the post again; not my words; I have just said what was in the CIA report.

We can discuss what China and Japan want/do not want when it comes to NK; but my comment was not about that. I'm more than just familiar with who is the main candidate to take Il Yong's role; and he echoes his fathers politics [Stalinism], while generals want re-unification. And please do not bring China and Japan into this, since this has nothing to do with that. I am talking about the actions which are being taken when it comes to succession and what will mean if Jung-un succeeds Il Yong and what will mean if the military installs a leader.

Yeh is is common knowledge that both the US and China do not want a united Korea. The US wants a divided south Korea so we can have our imperialistic military empire presence that part of the world to encircle China, and China sees a united Korea as a a"annoyance" for their future plans of Asia,China will become another military industrial complex imperialistic empire when the US dissolves into chaos when the dollar collapses. Basically if Korea unites their military power would rival China's. So both superpowers want division and war between the Koreas.

The one thing that can save north Korean older generals just as you said they want openness  and reunification but it is the younger generation that are more militant and nationalistic that have been grown to hate South Korea and want reunification through war.

Provocative North Korea seems to be running out of answers as its economy mimics Greece's without the olive oil (or crude oil) trade.

In the past, more NK belligerence ='d more payoff money from various neighbors. The question is, how much of a payoff can NK expect when the neighbors are all in economic deep creek, themelves?

As in Greece, the 'market' here is going to call NK's bluff. What next?

For all its bodacious militarism, hardware and massive army, NK lacks the economic horsepower to support a military adventure for more than an extremely short period. A cost/benefit analysis would show the NK military dissolving rapidly while any gains - presumeably at the expense of S. Korea - would be very small. After the NK military (literally) runs out of gas, the country would collapse. The ruling clique must know there is no place for them to go post- that point.

It's not hard to make the connection between the torpedoing of the SK ship and intensified rhetoric and the currency crisis/manipulation that took place in NK last year. NK is broke, they have nothing left to sell but aggravation.

What gets lost in all this is that no one wants war--not Kim (who needs brazen aggression to be met with sanctions but nothing further to ensure the next Kim succession), not S. Korea (who stand to have their largest city obliterated and their economy devastated), and definitely not the US or China. Sound and fury signifying nothing, as usual--unless, of course, someone happens to torpedo an American warship in disputed waters. If that happens, all bets are off.

ltl first time poster. This reminds me of a joke my eastern european friend liked to tell.Based on recent history the best domestic policy that a bankrupt nation could implement would be to go to war with the U.S., lose, and demand a "marshall"plan.I agree with thegreatsatan all hat and no cattle.

Best thing is to ignore the loony in N Korea. US should tell the Chinese they'll just nuke N Korea if he starts a war.

The Chinese will keep their pitbull on a leash; they dont need a war in the pennisula right now.

oops i forgot; Obama ruled out ever using nukes so that threat would not be taken seriously...

Look more closely at that treaty, and its timing.

N Korea, and Iran, were definitely still on the we'll nuke'em list.  Also, China is a nuclear power, so MAD is still appliable there too.

When the US speaks peace it means war.  I believe that treaty was a way to say, "We've deeply considered it, and chances are some people are about to be nuked in the near future.  We want to go ahead and set the rules of the game, make them clear, so we're not made out to be the bad guy."

Crazy is an act.  He's saying don't mess with me because I'll not only up the ante, I'll burn the cards, the poker table, and the house.  It's designed to make a small, yappy dog look big and mean.

Notice Iran has a "crazy" front man now too.  Because the bluff works, and it will allow Iran the time they need to finish building their first nukes.  Once they join that club it becomes way too expensive to push them around any more.

Israel is going to stop this, before the end of the  year, they cannot wait any longer.

This is timed to take the heat off of Iran and their nuke program.  Remember NK, Iran, Pakistan, Syria, Hizbolah and Hamas are all tightly interwoven to oppose the west.  They are all taking turns flaring up to divert attention from Iran long enough so Iran can get the bomb.

I don't consider myself a warmonger, but it's hard to see any reason that someone shouldn't just completely obliterate North Korea.  It would be good for the west, South Korea, Japan, even China, and quite frankly it sounds like a lot of the NK residents don't have anything to lose.

My bet the first NK response would be not the daily bombing of Seoul, but Kamikaze style attack on the region shipping lines.

You think any economy in the region will be able to withstand the temporary loss of the US export market and not to plunge into the recession?

South Korea would have much bigger problems than a temporary loss of exports.  All the rest would be able to defend their shipping lanes, probably cooperatively, and at the very most one or two ships might be lost before allied forces destroyed the responsible subs.

I'll retreat my earlier statement that war is not very probable.

One should never underestimate the effects of the global credit/sovereign crisis on little rationality left in a mind of the elite politicians (not to mention ego.)

Those fools are way too eager with their bluff, that they might end up bluffing their way into a very unwanted & bloody war.

Someone please, explain them that in the game of chicken, it's the best for all to sway from the crush, or else.

Can't believe the Hill_Dog hasn't seen the rebel without a cause.

I'm not sure why Clinton is getting dogged at the begining of your article.

Lil Kim is looking to flex some muscle to keep his empire going.

You do not back down to this sort of thing.

Everybody keeps talking about the U.S. having a 'convienent war' due to our problems.

Don't you think Lil' Kim could be doing the same thing?

He needs resources. South Korea has 'em.

I wish they'd get that nuclear war hedging market open.  I need to buy some cds's to protect against nuclear fall out.  It will hedge all my risk right?

I wonder if NK realizes that they have enough ammo and supplies for about 30-60 days and after that they would be throwing rocks and eating weeds?

Most of them are already eating weeds.  Any report out of NK is appalling.

MM,

that's just the PUBLIC's plight............bet your sweet ass, they have billions of tons of all they need for their war machine.

As in most Commie shi*%oles, the Elite do very well, and live lavishly, and the army, is second to none,in training, and the GOOD stuff...........FOOD,shelter,clothing, housing.

As in most wars, the innocent suffer the most.

Personally, I am somewhat  relieved that we have the little Aryan in Persia, and Kim IL Dung, kicking the cans........(not happy with the deaths, and misery),or the poor that lived under to boot of Communism................BUT,one of the worst thing IMHO that ever happened to America was when the WALL came down.

When we had real threats, the powers that be,had less time to F8*** U* us.

Since then, we have had targets on our backs.

Not for this to sound selfish, but, look what it's done to the rest of the world also...............IF the Wall was still up, we would not be going thru worldwide, the fiscal catastrophe we are in, and entering.

Just an observation.

« Kim Myong Chol ... is often called an "unofficial" spokesman of Kim Jong-il and North Korea. »

You guys are posting some of the most moronic and wildly inaccurrate statments. North Korea has very tight economic and military ties with China. China needs the mineral resources in NK and has been investing heavily in mines, facilities and rail transport. The NK GNP has been increasing over the last few years. With more Chinese investment, it will grow faster than the US.

China will never allow SK and US troops to take over NK and move toward the Chinese border. SK does not have the money or enough troops to take over NK in case of a collapse.

The main reason NK was part of the Axis of Evel was for selling ballistic missles and weapons to Israel's enemys.
