Social Security, Illegal Immigration and Ben
It would be correct to say:
“What is good for Social Security is good for America”.
Some of the variables include:
-Rising GDP
-Modest inflation
-Expanding employment (low unemployment)
-Worker productivity
-Innovation
-Rising population
SSA evaluates the prospects for the variables and produces a forecast.
They create three alternative cases. They call them the Intermediate and
the High/Low cost assumptions. That’s a bit murky. A better description
might be:
Intermediate = What we are hoping/assuming will happen.
High Cost = Bad News!
Low Cost = Break out the Champagne!
Now consider how SSA looks at the highly emotive issue of illegal
immigration/undocumented workers. SSA refers to this group in the PC way
as “others”. This from the SSA 2010 report to Congress, page 84.
Note that the “What We’re Expecting” case has illegal immigration at 400,000 per year for the next decade. The “Let’s Party!” case has the average over 500k. Heaven forbid that illegal workers fall to only 200k per year. That would be the “Worst Case”
outcome. Looking at this one has to wonder what would happen if illegal
immigration fell to zero. Clearly if 550k is the good news then zero
must be very bad news.
So it is not always correct that what is good for SSA is good for the
USA. It makes me wonder about those other categories where the interests
appear to line up but actually to do not.
As a mature economy we can only achieve high rates of growth with
significant expansion of debt at every level. Consumers, corporations,
cities, towns, states and of course the Feds all have to borrow and
spend more if we are going to have the growth that SSA (and all other
public and private entitlements) so desperately needs.
Debt = Growth
Growth = Good, therefore,
Debt = Good
Our dependence on illegal immigration to sustain growth is not unlike
our need for debt to fire the engines. But like illegal immigration,
debt/growth has a dark side to it. If you want evidence of that fact
just consider what Bernanke is going to unleash on us. Yes he might
achieve some growth with his QE-2. But what is the real cost for that
growth?

If this was directed towards me.... I think the teachers are worth whatever their results acquire in the community. If they are so awesome that all their students learn well, test well and graduate well then more expensive homes will be built and higher taxes can be collected to cover their salaries. If they perform badly they should be fired because the school district is risking income for providing poor results and talented teachers that will leave the district for higher paying ones!

Would you want to put your child’s development in the hands of a DMV worker? Would you let their future be determined by the US postal service?
These huge behemoth institutional bureaucracies created by our government always lose sight of what they were implemented to provide. Instead, of following their directive, government funded agencies and beneficiaries of government money, become focused on maintaining their power and their share of the government hand out. (The Teacher's Unions are some of the most powerful or the most powerful lobbies in every State.)
The bureaucratic workers, little cogs in a the huge machine, become limited by the directives from above and eventually lose all ability to think for themselves. Protocol, reports and studies take the place of creativity, and effectiveness.
School children are under the care of government workers, who are lost in a sea of bureaucracy. Do you really believe a school teacher, who is told what to teach and when to teach it, is be capable of operating independently of the system? School teachers knowingly assign work they know is useless and or pointless.
It’s no secret that governments bureaucracies are wasteful, careless, inefficient and clueless. We have all heard the stories of the Federal Government paying $1000 for a hammer or the Department of Defense’s inability to locate billions of dollars of misappropriated funds or the Department of the Interior’s inability to produce a credible financial statement. There is no personal responsibility in a huge bureaucratic organization, especially when they're spending someone else’s money.
What would make anyone think they would operate any differently when running and managing our schools? After all, it’s not their money and not their children.
The system of education that the our government has established is inheritably inept and corrupt. The corruption began with the legislation requiring every child to attend school. The government promises an education for every child, and then runs the public school system so poorly that 23% of high school seniors can not read at even a basic level. They are functionally illiterate. Thirty-one percent can read at only a basic level, indicating only partial mastery and after twelve years of school, less than 40 % emerge as proficient readers. A mere 6% have advanced reading skills.
Let’s me repeat this: After twelve years of public school education, over 50% of high school seniors are not proficient at reading. These statistics are from the National Assessment of Education Progress, so the government is well aware that they are committing fraud when promising an education for every child in exchange for our hard earned money.
Locking kids up for twelve years of compulsory schooling and forcing them to memorize disconnected information that has no or little relevance to their lives or the lives of their families, leaves them devoid of any real knowledge and deprived of the opportunity to discover the world for themselves. The few that really do learn something, will usually do it on their own, or in spite of their schools.
Only a government run “company” could get away with this and still be in business.
Stay home and teach your children. Stop chasing fairy tales ...you are their only hope.
You completely misunderstood me. BTW, my children are doing exceptional in public school because they have me to guide them. They are not kool-aid drinkers. I am teaching them how to navigate the indoctrination attempt and they see it for what it is. Sheltering them at home isn't going to prepare them for adulthood. We have opted out and argued, received apologies and brought pictures to show and tell of the 9/12 march on dc. They do not go to an inner city school though. My point was that the government should not pay the teachers set salaries but that school districts should be responsible based on the tax dollars the residents are willing to pay. If teachers suck homeowners will not move into the district so they will get low salaries. Supply and demand!! If the parents are displeased the teachers have to go. The Union's need to be voted out by the residents.The community should be in control not the government.
Believe me, I read the history books sent home and my kids correct and refute homework assignments all the time.
Being respectful does not mean agreeing or blindly following! I don't want to hide their eyes, I want to open them!!!!!

I have my Ph D in Chemical Engineering and jobs are not there. It does not matter what your skills are, you are not going to get hired if the jobs are nonexistent.
the facts are: central money planning, fractional reserve lending, and fiat money prolong booms to the point where an overabundance of jobs and wage increases are created that are simply not sustainable. Folks go out and buy cars, take out large mortgages (on the future), and save very little with the belief that good times will last forever (because it seems as though they always have).
Then, as a result of central money planners (masters of the universe) leaving rates too low for too long until all conceivable bubbles pop, folks lose homes, get divorces, commit suicide, and generally turn on each other.
All along, the true culprits are the central money planning terrorists, fractional reserve counterfeiting, and the printing of fiat (paper) money that causes the unsustainable euphoria and subsequent devastating collapse.

You fail to recognize the biggest dividend that most illegals give the Social Security System, FICA, etc. Many, if not most, work under illegal SS numbers, which in turn get "credited," i.e., paid out, to current beneficiaries. Same thing with the rest of the withholdings; unemployment benefits, medicare, etc.--all are being funded by illegals, who typically cannot collect; a total interdiction is coming, due to changes in passport/visa, and even local ID laws and administration of benefits.
The typical MO has been to use the birth certificates of dead US citizen children of a similar birth date, then change the name. Until recently, there was no matching system between births and deaths in the USA. There is now, and huge numbers of illegals are being caught as a result, and deported.
Many others are being caught due to a federal system of matching people in detention with those known to be in violation of immigration laws; 30% of these people have no criminal history.
You take that away, and the system will implode that much more rapidly. Without (mainly Hispanic) immigrants, our birth rate would equal that of Italy, which is so far under replacement rate (2.1 births per couple; Italy is 1.3), that the very idea of conservation of anything would be ridiculous; why bother? Every ensuing generation would be smaller, and poorer, in any event. That hardly augurs for increased vigilance on the use of energy; quite the opposite.

Just as importantly, we NEED to open up an orderly amount of immigration from Mexico (and elsewhere) to allow for some population growth IF WE WISH TO KEEP ANY SEMBLANCE OF OUR ENTITLEMENT PROGRAMS.

There is one key thing you are missing - The competition is illegal. People died to get where we are today labor wise and now it is going to be lost because once again corporate interest outweigh those of Americans . Aren't enough jobs lost overseas to low paid workers ? Why also have it in our own backyard ? I know plenty of blue collar guys who kill themselves to keep food on the table (legally) . In many cases they work harder with less protection day in and day out because they are illegal and thus the low man on the totem pole.
It's only illegal because the government or trade organizations have set up arbitrary rules to limit competition (great way to stay competitive /sarcasm). Even better is that the government sets up safety nets which influences people not to work. This is the real crime being committed! I live in a town in the northeast where the economic reality is for girls to have a baby in high school to get on the governments dole.

Just had this "teachable moment" with my daughter who turns 16 next month. She wants to work at chipotle. She is going to turn her application in when the new location opens near us and see who they hire.
If she's not Mexican she will find out she will not be hired. No white Americans allowed. I stopped eating there for this reason. Boycott.
Well she gets an A+ in math, is very outgoing and dvrs every cooking show on television. It will be their loss if they don't hire her and she will gain the valuable lesson that while she could go to jail for tax fraud by working under the table, non-citizens are rewarded. She'll have an awesome paper for her debate/speech class with a vested personal interest!
