Stick Save Mission Accomplished - Goldman Closes Market Over 1,040, Bernanke Last Seen Puffing Cohiba

Tyler Durden's picture

Nothing to see here, except another example of fair and efficiently manipulated markets. The HFT not-co-much-liquidity-but-certainly-volatility-and-momentum providers take the spree and accentuate it. At the end of the day, the market must close above 1,040 or else it is free fall from here. Mission accomplished.Yet in the process, both SPX and SPY close at 2010 lows, and at the lowest levels since October 30, 2009.

Just felt a spark in my head.

It's been 15 years since I studied fraud at CU, so I need TD to chime in here...

In Econ 101 or 109, a concept I recall was that during times of inflation--stocks perform better than bonds or was it vice versa?

I think that is right. So hypothical speaking, if we got hyper inflation over night because of the fed 5 trillion easing and talk of default, is it possible that we could see the stock market skyrocket, while seeing the bond market total collaspe?

Trillions & trillions are moved from bonds to stocks by the cartel?

No debt is recognized. In with the NWO currency not backed by gold. And the DOW is at 30,000 but is mostly owned by the elistest because we all got pushed out during the 8,000 point swing as the IMF was trying to work out the final details with George Soros saving the world.

I'm trading it, no doubt, short ES since 1112,  but trading it and making it back doesn't have anything to do with the reason for my posting.  My post refers to corruption and dishonesty, just because you can make money trading it, doesn't make what they are doing right.

Everything everywhere on the planet involving human beings is corrupt and dishonest, so you're kinda stuck with that unless you want to go live by yourself in a cave somewhere.

Congrats on catching the short.  May your tribe increase.  I agree with you that the corruption is incredible and wrong.

Sorry about catching you in the downstream then - I'm just sick of all the gold nuts and non-traders that have jumped in lately screaming "Gold is going to the MOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!" because in their world that means they will be the .001% of the world that has fungible assets, thus kings of their domain.

What they don't realize is that if that TEOTWAWKI situation ever develops in any meaningful way, they will be vomiting in sheer panic because NO ONE wants to live in mad Max.

Now all you gold nuts can go ahead and junk me, but I'm a silver and lead guy.  I like hard assets just as much as ya'll.  And I'll be there at your party if gold goes to the MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

Gold is a trade.  You may not think so because it doesn't occur on an exchange for digital bits.  Colonial Americans traded bear skins for whiskey.  Would you consider them traders?  Also, it's your own fear and weakness that's causing your perception of TEOTWAWKI if the dollar collapses.  Life will continue regardless.

Tue, 06/29/2010 - 18:12 | 442947 Tipo anónimo
Tipo anónimo's picture

Gold is a trade.  Completely agree.  It is NOT the only trade as some would have you believe.  IMHO, trading skins for whiskey is a lot tougher work.  And it surely is fear and weakness that makes me shudder at the thought of TEOTWAWKI.

I know how people live in Andean South America and reality is not pretty.

I'm hoping that the worst case scenario is what Orlov calls for - a collapse similar to the 'dissolution' of the USSR where we all have to adapt to 12 hrs. of electricty per day, growing a good part of our own food, etc.

The average investor knows only one thing:  invest in a good company, collect the dividends and watch it grow and prosper, you know, the old-fashioned way.  They do not know the way of traders and their options, futures, shorts, derivatives, commodities, forex, etc.  They are many ways to make money in this market, however, the average investor does not have the interest or time to learn the ropes.

Yes, but in the long term the average retail investor does not meet their retirement goals.  While they may see a quarter or year with decent total returns the 10 year numbers are not happening.  In particular, many folks have had to readjust their retirement plans or go risk on in a bad way.  Makes for sleepless nights and shriveled nuts due to lack of wife's botox and pedicures.

I actually posted a report yesterday that says 250k jobs will be coming out in the next two week, with 115k of them happening this week.  They tried to play it off and say discredit them, but they sure weren't discrediting them when they were trying to make it look like we were adding a bunch of jobs and pumping the market with them.  Market gained 1k with the fake jobs, it should lose 1k as they go bye-bye and was all along a zero sum game.  They never netted one single job out of any of it.

I've said it twice today already... What the fuck happened to capitalism, to "free" markets, where things could actually fall in price. WTF, is this "short selling's forbidden France"? The Baby Boomers are already leaving, sick and tired of this communist ponzi scheme so I guess it's the politicians who are sitting long with shares... Come on Ron Paul jump up on that tank and ride to the FED - time to get the commie-keynesianists out...

You make them sound so noble.. They are one of the greatest plagues upon this country. Their motivations aren't for God and country, they are purely selfish.... as usual. They see the social security and medical benefits evaporating. No more gambling for them, which will become a massive drag on equities going forward for a long time.

Tyler, I would sure like to know how they do that. With what kind of stock do they do that and how much each intervention costs. And what do they do with the stock, do they sell it the next day? Because once they hold 3% they have to announce it right?

no one here knows and I'm not telling... If anyone figured it out they'd be trading ahead of the "PPT". That's what pisses everyone off here.  But to be honest, I think that manipulation from the fed isn't always neccessary, all it takes is some capital being poured into the:

1. FX markets

2. Futures market

3. Commodities

these arenas allow a lot of leverage, and a little capital and a couple of fast computer networks at 100*x+ can really swing the market more than you'd think.

If, hypothetically, you had to do this, you'd just lift the futures.

Make sure the pit knows you are there and you have deep pockets, then pick your level, and persistently lift them on the screen. Tick by tick.

Index arb and delta-1 desks at the large banks then have to lift the stocks to keep up with the index. You don't care which stocks, that's their problem. And the genius thing is it's rare for large banks to ever hit the 3% threshold, as they repo out the stock to hedge funds who want to short.

Voila, problem gone. Market higher. Only people who lose are the ones who sold you the futures.

Another day in which the Federal Reserve and Wall Street influence political legislation. More Wall Street blackmail at it's finest. Unless you have complete control of the markets you could not paint the tape day in and day out. We have a United States political system that does not have a seperation of powers but one which has a 4th body in Wall Street & The Federal Reserve dictating political policy using the markets as a tool.

WTF is going on here. Where is the SEC & F.B.I on this? You wanna laugh I have a client who is leasing an apartment from me who had to step away from his trading desk at prominent bank at 3:30 to negotiate and he said,"Busy day" I said "yeah markets off nearly 300 into the close.

I said to him, "No worries the PPT is on there way 20 minutes into the close"

He could not stop laughing. These events should be the headlines on every nightly news channel but the answer is they are not..because they are all political tools of the administration. Fuck me

Or reality.com.

What the fuck is so positive about price fixing? And what positives do you speak of? Who says that Bulls markets must last for years and bear markets only months? If you consider manipulation and political corruption a positive well than by all means go mortgage every asset you have and get as long as possible. The fact that this market and housing are as lofty as they have been for decades is supernatural and nothing more than supernatural and the result of unprecedented intervention that equates to the most dangerous experiment in price fixing that has ever existed.

I hope the free market Terminator makes you his first victim.

I've not seen this news anywhere else, but: Mortgage Lenders anouncing new "Disaster Relief Unit" for mortgage holders affected by the BP Oil Spill. Just call lender if you live in a Gulf state and they will "coach" you on how to answer about ten questions. Then, just fax in your response and viola! Six more months of having no mortgage payments at all! The cost could equate to 70B or more, per month. Another half trill not registered anywhere.
