Stick Save Mission Accomplished - Goldman Closes Market Over 1,040, Bernanke Last Seen Puffing Cohiba
Nothing to see here, except another example of fair and efficiently manipulated markets. The HFT not-co-much-liquidity-but-certainly-volatility-and-momentum providers take the spree and accentuate it. At the end of the day, the market must close above 1,040 or else it is free fall from here. Mission accomplished.Yet in the process, both SPX and SPY close at 2010 lows, and at the lowest levels since October 30, 2009.

HFT is sooooooooooooooooo gay...
When I grow up I want to be like Tyler Durden... I am not joking I really mean it.
Thanks for all the posting I learned a lot today!
What happened to your boobies Pam?
It's cold out here!
That is not the kind of stick you are thinking of, Pam.
Just felt a spark in my head.
It's been 15 years since I studied fraud at CU, so I need TD to chime in here...
In Econ 101 or 109, a concept I recall was that during times of inflation--stocks perform better than bonds or was it vice versa?
I think that is right. So hypothical speaking, if we got hyper inflation over night because of the fed 5 trillion easing and talk of default, is it possible that we could see the stock market skyrocket, while seeing the bond market total collaspe?
Trillions & trillions are moved from bonds to stocks by the cartel?
No debt is recognized. In with the NWO currency not backed by gold. And the DOW is at 30,000 but is mostly owned by the elistest because we all got pushed out during the 8,000 point swing as the IMF was trying to work out the final details with George Soros saving the world.

Market manipulation? Inconceivable!

Nice to see I'm not the only one that got HFJunked...
Cohiba dipped in BLOW !

Comfortably Dumb surely Shirley!
"2 thumbs up -WAY UP" - Jim Flamer
Heh heh ...
Cohiba? AJ Fernandez-Man O' War on a day like this. Don't underestimate their taste. Cohiba is so yesterday
Channeling Clinton: where is Monica Lewinsky when you need a dip for your cigar...Oh No, here comes Hilary...the Horror, the Horror!~
Whatchu mean - pass er to Hillary. Don't bogart that intern.
they won't be able to stop it tomorrow. ;)
is this your first rodeo?
tecno,
We wish that were the case- sadly we witness total manipulation in the Wax Fruit market where the goods are rotten but are not allowed to smell. Give them free money and the institutions will extend this bullshit whenever asked.
Today there was strong selling pressure on high volume. If volume picks up again tomorrow, S&P will go below 1040.
This was the third attempt to break below 1040. You know what they say: 4th time is the charm...
+1 And anyone who doesn't think we won't see 666 again is in for a rude awakening.
I saw 666 on TV just today talking about some kind of "recovery" or something. 333 was by his side.
Da bulls.
lol.
"I think I'm havin' a heart attack!"
"How many would that make?"
"Oh about a bakers dozen!"
Well that's somethin to shoot for!
Smoke and mirrors!

Overnight will be a big deciding factor of which way to trade this week. Wow the suspense is so thick you couldn't get through it with a chainsaw.
Melt up?
Trade...this...week?
Yep, becuase if we get a good melt up in after hours on the ES to about 1045 go long.
The way is down. Short any bounce.
Indeed!! You boys see AAPL today? Fabulous... such volume! HAHAHAHA After $240 it will get a lot easier.
Asia's gonna be red tonight. the EU will follow esp. since the Euro is under 1.22.
That's gonna take a press release full of hopium and a favorable mention of a QE2 they can't afford to get a rally going tomorrow.
PRIME example of why no one wants anything to do with this fraud market. The US markets have become an embarrasment to the world and our way of life. Soon we will be forced to take to the streets to defend our honor and waste the crooks in office and on Wall St.
Or you could trade it and get a little back from the theives. Just a thought.
Lots of crying here lately about how fraudulent the market is and how only a fool would play.
And that just changed?
I'm trading it, no doubt, short ES since 1112, but trading it and making it back doesn't have anything to do with the reason for my posting. My post refers to corruption and dishonesty, just because you can make money trading it, doesn't make what they are doing right.
Everything everywhere on the planet involving human beings is corrupt and dishonest, so you're kinda stuck with that unless you want to go live by yourself in a cave somewhere.
Congrats on catching the short. May your tribe increase. I agree with you that the corruption is incredible and wrong.
Sorry about catching you in the downstream then - I'm just sick of all the gold nuts and non-traders that have jumped in lately screaming "Gold is going to the MOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!" because in their world that means they will be the .001% of the world that has fungible assets, thus kings of their domain.
What they don't realize is that if that TEOTWAWKI situation ever develops in any meaningful way, they will be vomiting in sheer panic because NO ONE wants to live in mad Max.
Now all you gold nuts can go ahead and junk me, but I'm a silver and lead guy. I like hard assets just as much as ya'll. And I'll be there at your party if gold goes to the MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!
Gold is a trade. You may not think so because it doesn't occur on an exchange for digital bits. Colonial Americans traded bear skins for whiskey. Would you consider them traders? Also, it's your own fear and weakness that's causing your perception of TEOTWAWKI if the dollar collapses. Life will continue regardless.
Gold is a trade. Completely agree. It is NOT the only trade as some would have you believe. IMHO, trading skins for whiskey is a lot tougher work. And it surely is fear and weakness that makes me shudder at the thought of TEOTWAWKI.
I know how people live in Andean South America and reality is not pretty.
I'm hoping that the worst case scenario is what Orlov calls for - a collapse similar to the 'dissolution' of the USSR where we all have to adapt to 12 hrs. of electricty per day, growing a good part of our own food, etc.
Lie down with dogs, get up with fleas.
Well Said - and they wonder why the "Average Investor" has not come back - and will not feed the theives any longer. Really Unbelievable - but at the end of the day when all hell REALLY Breaks Loose - the criminals will have no one to sell to - which in turn will make things just that much worse.
The average investor knows only one thing: invest in a good company, collect the dividends and watch it grow and prosper, you know, the old-fashioned way. They do not know the way of traders and their options, futures, shorts, derivatives, commodities, forex, etc. They are many ways to make money in this market, however, the average investor does not have the interest or time to learn the ropes.
Nor the ability to spend the money to buy a HAL9000 clone
Yes, but in the long term the average retail investor does not meet their retirement goals. While they may see a quarter or year with decent total returns the 10 year numbers are not happening. In particular, many folks have had to readjust their retirement plans or go risk on in a bad way. Makes for sleepless nights and shriveled nuts due to lack of wife's botox and pedicures.
Retirement goals? Shoot 90% wouldn't know what to do in "retirement" many die within two years lots actually want to work to stay social ! Retirement is a scam.
For me, the unemployment numbers released Friday will be key - if they're poor it's gonna break.
Let's be thankful we're not one of them.
When does the census hiring become the census firing and show up in the numbers? (assuming it will not be creatively omitted at the backend). Wouldn't that timing just suck eggs?
The census workers will be deducted from the figure released Friday. SGS reckons expectations are 240k census temps removed for a -70k total. If it's a decent amount more than that I'd say they'll be trouble but hell, who knows where the next shoe is going to drop?
Don't worry, census firing will be replaced by BP oilspill workers. Problem solved. Although the money they earn will likely go to pay for healthcare related effects toxic exposure.
Most of the census losses will show next month.
I actually posted a report yesterday that says 250k jobs will be coming out in the next two week, with 115k of them happening this week. They tried to play it off and say discredit them, but they sure weren't discrediting them when they were trying to make it look like we were adding a bunch of jobs and pumping the market with them. Market gained 1k with the fake jobs, it should lose 1k as they go bye-bye and was all along a zero sum game. They never netted one single job out of any of it.
+1 The market is primed to go up or down depending on those numbers. We'll probably stall until then.
Thanks, but speak for yourself... When they stop hiring secondary math teachers, you know the end is near.
Scary but true. You know the end is near, but your kids dont because they can't count.
Is their a correlative relationship between the ADP numbers tomorrow morning and the non-farm payrolls? Thanks
Will be just ahead of a three-day weekend, too.
Nice, but.....No more room for error. Wonder what they'll pull before tomorrow's close to get folks to stop selling and let the algos lift?
The will let everyone go the Hamptons early and eliminate volume.
Do I need to look and see if my gold miners got stick saved? I think I already know the answer...
produce something that is steadily rising in price and watch your stock get smashed with the rest of the worthless trash out there.
It's not so much HFT that bugs me, it's HFT with a playbook.
You say playbook, I say agenda.... we're splitting hairs.
My thoughts exactly. Cover my shorts tomorrow... Well, maybe not as the violation was pretty deep today.
Now just need to bleed out those pesky sell orders in a nice controlled manner.
Mission accomplished? The mission is just starting in earnest. The S&P gapped down to 1135 after-hours, and the autobots are going to need to implement the low val ramp job in the wee hours.
1035 ?
thx... I'm missing the good old days of yester-months. 1-0-3-5!
Pretty soon you'll be able to save time and effort by only needing 3 keystrokes. I always can find a silver lining somewhere.
Well, I'm already getting bald by turning around my "Dow 10,000" hat after every crossing.
Perhaps all that chafing has worked its way down to my brain cells. ;)
I traded in my hat for a Dow 10,000 yo-yo with a picture of a dead cat painted on it.
You certainly have flair, Tricky Dick.
FAT FINGER! FAT FINGER! FAT FINGER!
Jesus Christ man! Be more careful!
still this is the lowest close fty and all the other intraday lows (that were taken out today) were during an up/reversal day
Puffing Cohiba
should be puffin' a gotti
You know, there's gonna come a day when Benron goes to fire up the chopper, flush with his freshly printed bills set to be fired from a 155mm gun at Fraud Street, only to realize the bird doesn't have sufficient fuel for both Bennie and all the bills.
One or the other, but not both.
That is the day to be short to ZERO.
And the day Benny is going to want the vectors to the nearest non-extradition-treaty country.
That day may be coming as they seem to be flying money, guns and drugs out of Afghanistan.
http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/world/7477619/graft-fears-as-massive-cash-sums-fly-out-of-kabul-wsj/
Our tax dollars at work making the world a better place.
"Send, money, guns, & lawyers" Nah, screw the lawyers shoot them first.
Yeah, I'm pretty interested to see the cash getting flown out of afghanistan myself. Things might be going a lot worse over there than the media is allowed to let on. I have friends over there that have clammed up over the last couple months. There could have been more to the Mccrystal smackdown than rude remarks. Also guys, it ceases to be a sticksave when you do it every day. It's called COMPLETE DOMINANCE OVER THE MARKET when you do it everyday. You may return to your regularly scheduled bullshitting.
We're SAVED! Thank GOD someone is doing God's work!
Lloyd, Jamie and friends
My prediction for the end of the week:
Wednesday: Low-Volume Melt-up
Thursday: Low-Volume Melt-up
Friday: Sickeningly fraudulent jobs report which will launch the market upwards... For the last time in a long time.
I agree with Wed and Thurs. Friday however - something tells me that if that the report won't look too good. After all, if there was a report that should've been fixed, it would've been today's consumer confidence index.
If you're going to let-loose with a stinker of a FUNemployment report, what better weekend to do it than 4th of July? Everyone's going to be grilling animals, drinking beer, not caring about much of anything.
By Tuesday it's RALLY ON again.
How's that? Feb 5 low was 1044.5 on a green hammer. So, yes - stick save - but the Feb 5th low was broken according to my data by a big ol' Babe Ruth close at 1041.24.
Feel free to correct my ignorance.
And 10YTreas. closed at 29.67 which should provide lots of campfire chatter this evening.
How'd ya'll like the volume on the /ES by the way?
Loved the volume, and the vol. Also nice close at 1035 to end the day in a/h.
I hope the whole show keeps melting the fuck down this week. I'm so sick of helicopter Ben and these crooked central bankers. I rejoice everytime they get there teeth kicked in.
Everyone is naturally calling for a bounce tomorrow but someone poured gasoline all over Europe and that guy in the corner is about to light a cigarette.....
Hope tomorrow is another rout....
I think this is it. We're finally here. The highs of 1220 are in. It's just a matter of determining when and where we get the retracements, but we are headed back to 666.
Some thing tells me your a devil for details, no?
I think maybe you are right for the short term this week will be a bitch but there will be another bounce before it hits 616.
I think it all depended on the G20 meeting. If they got the developing countries to adopt dump dollar buy SDR then they'll tank the markets quick.
In other shocking news:
The sun came up today
Obama played 36 holes today
And oil is still spewing into the GOM.

There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death. Proverbs 14:12

Nice quote. How'd you get to be such a tasteful mother?

On fast Money today, Barry Ritholtz said Blade Runner is his all time favorite movie!
No wonder he's on my favorite list.
Said today was a Star Wars day because of the 50/200 Death Star cross.
He's a douche. One of many.
All this and ZH never even lagged for 10 seconds. Congats on the new servers. Hope there up to the coming Tasks.
Who is Cohiba? Does Barney know about this?
*Snort*
Pretty good, pretty good...
Last few seconds stick save. HFTs timed right down to the nanosecond! Hey! But a new low for this year. This is not looking good for tomorrow. The quants will be working on their HFT algos late tonight!
Algoholics need numbers fix now with 200 proof ES chugalug!
Can I direct deposit my unemployment check directly into my Schwabb account?
hahah! So good on so many levels.
The question is when will it become law to have 20% of your check directed deposited to 401ks.
Probably right after the law that 401ks must be fully invested in US Govt debt instruments passes.
Tricky--right on point: http://www.carolinajournal.com/exclusives/dems-target-private-retirement...

or they seize the accounts like Argentina and force feed the T bills with "guaranteed" inflation protection.
this scenario is further down the 'pike.

It took 5 minutes and 33 seconds to haul that fat ass back into its seat.
Man I bet they are lighting up after that exertion.
Now just pass the extension to the Home buyers to Sept 30th and all will be well
It will won't it (just lie to me)
Can't rest for long, Europe needs a boost back in as well
I've said it twice today already... What the fuck happened to capitalism, to "free" markets, where things could actually fall in price. WTF, is this "short selling's forbidden France"? The Baby Boomers are already leaving, sick and tired of this communist ponzi scheme so I guess it's the politicians who are sitting long with shares... Come on Ron Paul jump up on that tank and ride to the FED - time to get the commie-keynesianists out...
I just had a mental image pop into my head.
Paul topples Teh Fed and there are small celebrations in the street to which the average American citizen rudely asks, "What is The Fed?".
Capitalism ?
Here's yer fuckin Kapitalism...
http://inpoints.blogspot.com/
The Baby Boomers are already leaving, sick and tired of this communist ponzi scheme
You make them sound so noble.. They are one of the greatest plagues upon this country. Their motivations aren't for God and country, they are purely selfish.... as usual. They see the social security and medical benefits evaporating. No more gambling for them, which will become a massive drag on equities going forward for a long time.
The PPT seemed to lose their stick at about 2:45. This was a desperation skate save.
I think it should be reviewed in Toronto.
I think it was more of a penalty shot.
Tyler, I would sure like to know how they do that. With what kind of stock do they do that and how much each intervention costs. And what do they do with the stock, do they sell it the next day? Because once they hold 3% they have to announce it right?
I understand the words "they" "have" and "to"... but not in the order you put them.
I'm Dutch, give me a break :)
Me no good engrlish speak :)
I think there was some guy on here a while back speaking Austrian.
Lol, nice one sir
He means, they have ignored so many laws they will ignore that one too. They don't even know the meaning of the phrase "they have to". It means nothing to them.
As Will Rogers said " When they make a law it's a joke. And when they make a joke, it's a law".
no one here knows and I'm not telling... If anyone figured it out they'd be trading ahead of the "PPT". That's what pisses everyone off here. But to be honest, I think that manipulation from the fed isn't always neccessary, all it takes is some capital being poured into the:
1. FX markets
2. Futures market
3. Commodities
these arenas allow a lot of leverage, and a little capital and a couple of fast computer networks at 100*x+ can really swing the market more than you'd think.
If, hypothetically, you had to do this, you'd just lift the futures.
Make sure the pit knows you are there and you have deep pockets, then pick your level, and persistently lift them on the screen. Tick by tick.
Index arb and delta-1 desks at the large banks then have to lift the stocks to keep up with the index. You don't care which stocks, that's their problem. And the genius thing is it's rare for large banks to ever hit the 3% threshold, as they repo out the stock to hedge funds who want to short.
Voila, problem gone. Market higher. Only people who lose are the ones who sold you the futures.
I hear it is with SPY blocks bigger than a couch.
Homebuyer tax credit extended? That's what I hear.
because arbitrary numbers matter? Computers count in powers of 2 so 1024 is the next important number right?
More like hugging the toilet.
Bernanke seen walking halls of Fed with a new logo shirt..."A trillion dollars in stimulus and all I got was this lousy t-shirt".
Now there's a product whose time has come!
Another day in which the Federal Reserve and Wall Street influence political legislation. More Wall Street blackmail at it's finest. Unless you have complete control of the markets you could not paint the tape day in and day out. We have a United States political system that does not have a seperation of powers but one which has a 4th body in Wall Street & The Federal Reserve dictating political policy using the markets as a tool.
WTF is going on here. Where is the SEC & F.B.I on this? You wanna laugh I have a client who is leasing an apartment from me who had to step away from his trading desk at prominent bank at 3:30 to negotiate and he said,"Busy day" I said "yeah markets off nearly 300 into the close.
I said to him, "No worries the PPT is on there way 20 minutes into the close"
He could not stop laughing. These events should be the headlines on every nightly news channel but the answer is they are not..because they are all political tools of the administration. Fuck me
I had some shorts since 1100, and was adding to them after the 1040 break, but after watching the last minute retracement from 1035 to almost 1043, I decided to close them and see what happens tomorrow, with HFT you never know!
Thank you Benito B
It won't last.......headed south...big number week....all negative....BS at the end of the day with headline of extend housing tax credit.....but that's not what they actually did....only the closing date for those already under contract by April 30th.........Many were prepared to walk.
Bonds continue to trade like Internet stocks.
:cue music:
Life is good
All of the time
Got out of the market
On the PPT's dime
Thank you berry much

Or reality.com.
What the fuck is so positive about price fixing? And what positives do you speak of? Who says that Bulls markets must last for years and bear markets only months? If you consider manipulation and political corruption a positive well than by all means go mortgage every asset you have and get as long as possible. The fact that this market and housing are as lofty as they have been for decades is supernatural and nothing more than supernatural and the result of unprecedented intervention that equates to the most dangerous experiment in price fixing that has ever existed.
I hope the free market Terminator makes you his first victim.
Well said. Bravo.
you had me until you said "positives"
it was the tell you were trying to be funny
Tripps you trippin'. You went long on Citibank, eh? Glad you lost your shirt. This is called Zerohedge, not CNBC or happynewsmedia.com.
If you want all of 1 follower to visit your website, be blunt about it - but stop being an eediot on your happy go lucky financial news. We already have someone here named Leo for that flowery BS.
We talk about the positives all the time. As in we're positive this market is farked up the ying yang. Just because turds were selling for ten bucks before and now they're ten cents a dozen doesn't make them a good deal.
No one here is preventing you from buying in at these bargain basement prices. Go for it!
ZEROBULL.com is more apt.
you should try some.
"I have come here to bury Ceasar, not to praise him."- Mark Anthony
I've not seen this news anywhere else, but: Mortgage Lenders anouncing new "Disaster Relief Unit" for mortgage holders affected by the BP Oil Spill. Just call lender if you live in a Gulf state and they will "coach" you on how to answer about ten questions. Then, just fax in your response and viola! Six more months of having no mortgage payments at all! The cost could equate to 70B or more, per month. Another half trill not registered anywhere.
I have this picture in my head of all the Keynesian Crew in a room , smoking cigars, staring at the charts on a monitor .. with a collective voice screaming "PSYCH" at the 4:00 close.. bitches.. all of them.
+1
Way off topic here, but i have just found that out muslims dont pay rollover fees on their forex trades! (i just had to tell someone) These people advertise on ZH btw, as bforex. (i knew i should have kept that hijab)
