Studio Zero
Many of you have asked us about the purpose of "Radio Zero." All of us have avoided answering. What is true, is that there are some surprises in store for our readers down the line. Unfortunately, revealing them at this point would do definitional violence to the word "surprise." We can, however, reveal to you that a fully-functioning sound studio and streaming audio server is a key component of our plans. To wit:
Studio Zero
Yes, half of it is still in boxes. Scarred boxes. Boxes shamed with the wet lipstick marks of condensation circles. Traces left behind by many a sweating beer bottle (always imported... as proper attire forbids domestic labels of any kind or anything that looks properly placed when near any General Motors product).
And the other half? While meeting the literal definition of "unpacked," that inventory has become a mound of enmeshed packing paper, packing tape, packing peanuts, and bloodstained audio cords.
A pile of bubble-wrap in the far corner got my spirits up temporarily before further examination revealed its bubbles either made flaccid at the very factory of their birth, or maliciously popped by other than their rightful owners. No pleasing cries of plastic-exploding help emanated, even when I stomped on them liberally with a well-heeled boot. Reduced to a mere series of plastic sheets- useful now only for engineering the expedient expiration of the neighborhoods louder children- or that dog that never shuts up.
My patience has worn thin.
The only highlight of the day was the semi-surprise appearance of an old friend... let's just call him "Lloyd." Depending on your age bracket, you may well have seen "Lloyd" spinning Electronic Dance Music live and in person in Europe and/or the United States to massive (and possibly rabid) crowds.
After he realized that there was no beer in the refrigerator, it took some effort to talk "Lloyd" into staying behind a bit. I think the image of me standing alone, in the middle of a furniture-less room, disheveled hair sprinkled with broken fragments of Styrofoam™, a trickle of blood running down my forearm after my close-encounter with the obsolete but far from useless Funktion One X01 Audio Management System, and a wild look in my eye.
To add insult to injury, not five minutes after his arrival "Lloyd" forcibly removed a foot-long amalgam of ripped cardboard and packing tape from my ass with a loud -schwipp- followed by a solid five minutes of his laughter. Five... long... minutes.... Even now... I plot my revenge.
Meanwhile, I am extracting dues from him by putting the studio (that is "Studio Zero") through her paces this morning. So, here we are. Perhaps we'll try to throw together a quick remix on-the-fly for you. Maybe I'll show this weak excuse for a DJ how we do it at Studio Zero. Or maybe we'll tag-team. Maybe, if we get the phone hookup working, we'll take reader calls. (Or not). Who knows?
Join us...
...and see.

Stream is alive now. We'll go "Live live" at 8:20amish ET.
5:00 ET Update:
We're back. A quick reboot and Studio Zero returns.

___/ \_/ \_/ \_/
cool potatoes, back to work.
Thank you, this is wonderful this morning.
After five minutes the music stopped.
It is a pitty.
Anyway, thank you Marla.
Edit 10:24 (16:24 local time)
I tried again and the stram is working.
wow ... nice to see Blankfein doing something productive ( if you don't get it " Lloyd " )
Well, the real "Lloyd" has a lot more hair than LB.
Or is he our dear Lloyd from "Dumb and Dumber" who might have taken time out from his adventures in Aspen for a little side-trip to who knows where? The other day my daughter put a notice on her social network that her bed had collapsed and the pets heads were falling off--unfortunately, i missed the joke and got worried, until all of here friends replied to her "status" with other "DUMB and DUMBER" memorabilia!
Intriguing news. ZH Talk? I like the possibilities.
who has time for audio or video -
if you cannot speed read it...........
you will not get exposure to anyone that matters
Today's NYTimes...Paulson ethics on AIG bailout to feed GS. Interesting, that Paulson claims that it was FED who insisted on saving AIG..Fed say's it was Paulson...
In the end it does not matter, the monster was saved, get out the candy.
There's more than the AIG bailout at stake in this ethics question. For example, granting bank holding company status to Goldman after letting LEH go under. GS is still a bank holding company BTW, even though their business model has nothing to do with it.
GS is an hedge fund masquerading as a bank so that they can rape the people. The AIG thing was the icing on the cake.
On the new site there should be a fluff section where zero content useless dribble can be posted.
Or am I just being definitionaly violent toward the missive. LOL
Maybe someday you will find something with substance to write/post about until then you can write about all the cafes in Parris sweetie.
Good Luck with that!
More comments about "Parris" cafes! On the way!
Parris, Texis, I hope, I hope
Hey "Anonymous" with a Big "L" on your head, Marla doesn't walk over to your street corner and knock dicks out of your mouth, so why don't you go back to work and tell CNBC we said "hi" between jobs?
Marla, you should visit Karl Denninger's forum. He makes it a bit more difficult for people like this to wander in and say stupid crap.
I don’t feel ‘Priliged’ enough for your responses. LOL
Stones, glass houses, Cindy’s moms giving folks 2$ hand-jobs down at the 7-11 I guess.
But really thanks for your responses even from the skanky bitch it lets me no (know) I have raked a nerve.
yawn. you have got to be the lamest piece of shit troll to ever haunt this board.
All that crack has affected your teeny tiny brain.
Now shut off the computer, your mom is calling.
>>a fluff section where zero content useless dribble can be posted
Sorry, but MSNBC will sue, claiming "prior art."
Sweet. I was worried I'd have to go another Sunday morning without Radio Zero.
yo Marla, baby, can you ask Lloyd has he ever played his music on the Adriatic Coast .. if he has, then i might have been on one of his gigs ...
...or Tokyo in the early 90's when acid house was truly the edge. Ahhh, the memories of a young English lass named Nina ripping house like no other after lagers at the Sunset Strip....
"Traces left behind by many a sweating beer bottle (always imported... as proper attire forbids domestic labels of any kind or anything that looks properly placed when near any General Motors product"
Do not casually demean domestic beer. America is well into a craft beer revolution that largely renders buying imports unnecessary, nigh onto silly, except for (desirable) oddities such as Flemish sours, or Westy 12 and the like. I know for a fact you have access to Sly Fox beers in NYC. I'm curious to know what beer you feel the need to import.
Except if you're buying well-known imports, in which case I don't even want to know about it.
As much as I love craft brews the US does not do justice to the weissbier.
I get a syntax error when I click on the link, and am wholly unfamliary with what this sort of Internet animal is.
Could someone please put a guide on how to use Radio Zero in the forums?
open with realplayer
I avoid RealPlayer like the plague, they ruined the late 90's internet for me. Winamp, VLC, Itunes, can all open the stream.
Thank you. Nice technotronica!
Hey Marla, you might consider suggesting noobs like me use Winamp to listen.
I would, but I find the animation that accompanies "Buffering..." on my RealPlayer client to be quite hypnotic.
And on an iPhone QuickTime slurps it right up.
Mobile SZ...
Are you saying you can get the stream on an iphone, if so can you tell me how? I can plug my iphone into my car and it would be awesome to stream radio zero, bumpin' down the street...
Just navigate to the url in safari either by typing it in or navigating through www.zerohedge.com.
Yup...just be careful if it ever becomes illegal to SZ while driving - even hands free.
Let me see those hands - all of em.
Pete
I hear Lord Blankfein's wife is a real piece of work. North American royalty with an attitude.
I know this woman. She is obnoxious beyond anyone you have ever met. --(A la' Leona Helmsley) To hear LB ask his employee's to stop with the neuvo riche' conspicuous displays is just the grossest thing I have ever heard. Talk about insult to injury!
Well if you were married to Lloyd, come on, cut the poor gal some slack, there's not enough gold in Fort Knox, and , whereas, all that glitters is not gold, if you know what I mean.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW! What a nice sunday morning surprise..sweet:)
Up all night waiting for a surprise that came in the morning so that I slept through the start of it.
Thanks for the treat Marla and Lloyd.
Hang in there Lloyd. we are counting on you.
I am plugged in. My cats are groovin.
How old are you Marla? Like totally 24 or whatever?
Please tell?
Are you the daughter of Tyler?
Keep up the GREAT work -- You are destroying CNBC and all of the other lying MSM's with your unrelenting attempts to get at the TRUTH~~
How did the MSM's think they could get away with such blatant obfuscation of the facts for SO LONG????
Exactly!
The work that you are doing is so incredibly valued and appreciated by the public right now. We are so sick and tired of supporting networks that are bought and paid for by Corporate interests. To watch their indignant reports-(yep Charile Gasparino, that would be YOU)--just shovel the BS day after gruesome day can no longer be watched or tolerated on any level. We want the truth, no matter what the cost.
ECHO'd!~
Charlie Gasparino has lost all credibility. The ultimate shill!
$300 Personal Burial money, Check!!
What player open the .pl files?
I use itunes
dammit, i dont have itunes and will not install apple bloatware
Use BSPlayer.
BSPlayer can also play .avi (mpeg2, mpeg4, divx, xvid), and can support the matroski container. And it supports most all the audio codecs.
And it has more flexibility than itunes, wmplayer, blah blah blah...
As I have never listened to online radio before, I need to ask: how do I bookmark/save this inside Winamp?
I have it working now after saving listen.pls to my drive and double clicking on it, and Winamp will play it. But this is a little cumbersome.
Ok found one way, in Media Library tab, go to History, right click on zero hedge, Send to->Add to bookmarks.
have I missed something or why are they playing calm classic music that makes you wanna sleep?
WOW, ZH how did you folks get so super cool? Were you born that way, or did it happen along the way? Either way so glad to have found this site... Eclectic and Free, just the way I like it...
SUPER KUDOS!!!
don't worry, the free part will go away in due time
by Free I meant Freedom, I realize this is a financial blog, but everything isn't about money....
I too meant Freedom
Ok, then I am confused, are you alluding to black cars and black suits and black sunglasses, like Friday @ GS?
all of the above plus a special bonus box
Hence the choice of pseudonyms, John is that you?
everything is revealed in time
can I interest you in a piece of chocolate covered bacon?
Ohhh, I see, you want an internet slap fest... what's wrong is your mom not around?
Not sure where you get that idea. Everything that is free today, will be free forever on Zero Hedge. Did you have some statement in writing or other representation that gives you this idea?
Marla, where is Parris? I can't find it on a map.
in Ghana
Thanks Marla! Great stuff.
Have you considered making Zerohedge sex toy?
there's not one large and abrasive enough to fit and stay in Lloyd's arsehole
Nice!
As night becomes day, it's good to know my day now has become night, gm;) Party on, FUCK MSM...the true meaning of money talks? When are you going to finish them?
Hail to LIVE RADIO ZERO HEDGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is SWE-ET Marla.
I just asked TD if he was ever going to schedule a party / happy hour somewhere for us ZHs to hang out and meet and greet. (Realizing you folks couldn't attned, but we'd drink for ya!
Hell Cindy, if it's for ruining it for everyone, I think we'd be there!
hee hee ;)
Wow, that was superb as always
Just curious as to why a radio show rather than a podcast?
Because its not a podcast?
h/t
Uh, Thanks Marla. My point was that people are: 1 - obviously having a hard time accessing it, and 2: those who are not around at that specific time totally miss out. But hey, at least for that witty reply you got a h/t from someone. I'm new and forgot Project Mayhem's first 2 rules. I should have just stated you'll probably get more listeners with a podcast.
Podcasts aren't "live." We aren't about maximizing listeners right now, to be frank. We fill up on a regular basis already!
:)
For those like me who were unable to stick around and hear it, is it possible to access a recording of it? (minus the techno hopefully - no offense)
Although I am zilch techno savvy, it reminds me of pirate radio on the border 50k clear channel sounds- wolf man jack comes to mind....also, the radio that brought us Jimi Hendrix off the shore of England.
Solid man, solid.
Quick reboot, then back in the action.
Time to flip the cassette
Oh great, she's getting ready to start laying down some vocal samples once that studio is set.
You don't have to resort to trance samples, Marla!
We can tell you you're hot without them !
Please, no!
What username and password do I use, tried my login to zero hedge, didn't work.
for itunes:
1. Advanced Menu -> "open audio stream"
2. paste in http://cdo.zerohedge.com:8000/listen.pls
3. hit ok and sell dollars
OK, thank you XRIS, for helping this non-technosaavy old fogey! It works and, until now, i felt too silly to ask for help. Thank you again!
why cant i connect
me either...wait... I hear something...aaaand it's gone....
edit 4pm Pacific
and it's back
Okay, it's not just me!
Hmm... maybe there was a 25 limit and it's used up?
just tried the link, it worked, don't know why you have problems..
unfortunately, more than bedtime for me...
iTunes sez: Network stalled: rebuffering. It's puking for me right now. Hehe. :)
Hey, Marla - Nice shit. I have a lot of connections with studios in NYC - I started sweeping floors & making coffee for the guys @ Electric Ladyland back in 1983 (I was 13 at the time and I grew up a few blocks away on Cornelia St. - I badgered them until they let me in the door) and eventually "interned" & got on the payroll as an asst. engineer when I was 17; shortly afterwards I and some friends built our 1st studio from scratch in the basement of Westbeth, over on Bethune St. (down the hall from SD50, which you're probably too young to remember); over the years I've worked @ Chung King, Charles Lane, Dubway, Greene St. and a host of others (at some point or another I've pretty much sat behind the boards @ every major studio & minor shithole in NYC.)
Anyway, my point (have faith, there is one) is that if you need any help scoring gear, I can get you, like, @ least 25% off cost on just about any equipment you might need, vintage or otherwise. Let me know. I live in LA now, but I'm out there basically every other month.
Keep it up, it sounds great. Good luck.
Agre..good stuff
Hallelujah - finally got it running steady for now. Thanks Marla and Lloyd...gonna cook dinner inspired by the inaugural of Studio Zero.
A++. Sounds are great.
This is siiiiiick
I click the link and get nothing.. what am i doing wrong?
got it....
Stopped cooking to come in here and say I just lurve when you say that... lol.
Back to simmering balsamic/honey reductions for chicken, soy/honey reduction for veggies... haha.
Thanks all on the SZ/ZH crew - and welcome to Lloyd - double trouble with you and Marla around. All the better for our ears and souls.
wicked remix of touch me in the morning... rui da silva with ur own twist!
marla, will you guys play an original mix by a ZH reader? Ill keep it boomin'....
Now this song is gettin' me up and around.. just finished the bbq.. and I like what I'm hearin'!!!
I HATE IT!
I think the equipment is probably hot!
Has anyone reported a "Funktion One X01 Audio Management System" missing?
Actually, foreclosed. Studio owed me money. I took it in hardware.
I need SZ now!
real good tonight
THANKS FOR THE HELP XRIS!
And now for something completely different:
The thought of you guys having a regular on the air show is such a happy thought!!! Thank you Marla!!!
agrotera,
download winamp and go to Play --> URL
Hey Anony!
Thank you for your thoughtful reply! I wish i had asked for help sooner! For all the MP3 players i have bought, i should have gotten one for myself so i wouldn't be so behind on all of this!
Thank you again for your kind help!
Still goin'?!? Damn GURL!
It's all recreation for me.
=]
Me 2!
Finally i can say, "wow", nice choices Marla!
I've been listening to Pandora.com for background music, but this limits music tandem to my choices..how lovely to hear yours...thanks so much!
The tunes completely rock! Thanks.
