Studio Zero

Marla Singer's picture

Many of you have asked us about the purpose of "Radio Zero." All of us have avoided answering. What is true, is that there are some surprises in store for our readers down the line. Unfortunately, revealing them at this point would do definitional violence to the word "surprise." We can, however, reveal to you that a fully-functioning sound studio and streaming audio server is a key component of our plans. To wit:

Studio Zero

Yes, half of it is still in boxes.  Scarred boxes.  Boxes shamed with the wet lipstick marks of condensation circles.  Traces left behind by many a sweating beer bottle (always imported... as proper attire forbids domestic labels of any kind or anything that looks properly placed when near any General Motors product).

And the other half?  While meeting the literal definition of "unpacked," that inventory has become a mound of enmeshed packing paper, packing tape, packing peanuts, and bloodstained audio cords.

A pile of bubble-wrap in the far corner got my spirits up temporarily before further examination revealed its bubbles either made flaccid at the very factory of their birth, or maliciously popped by other than their rightful owners.  No pleasing cries of plastic-exploding help emanated, even when I stomped on them liberally with a well-heeled boot.  Reduced to a mere series of plastic sheets- useful now only for engineering the expedient expiration of the neighborhoods louder children- or that dog that never shuts up.

My patience has worn thin.

The only highlight of the day was the semi-surprise appearance of an old friend... let's just call him "Lloyd." Depending on your age bracket, you may well have seen "Lloyd" spinning Electronic Dance Music live and in person in Europe and/or the United States to massive (and possibly rabid) crowds.

After he realized that there was no beer in the refrigerator, it took some effort to talk "Lloyd" into staying behind a bit.  I think the image of me standing alone, in the middle of a furniture-less room, disheveled hair sprinkled with broken fragments of Styrofoam™, a trickle of blood running down my forearm after my close-encounter with the obsolete but far from useless Funktion One X01 Audio Management System, and a wild look in my eye.

To add insult to injury, not five minutes after his arrival "Lloyd" forcibly removed a foot-long amalgam of ripped cardboard and packing tape from my ass with a loud -schwipp- followed by a solid five minutes of his laughter.  Five... long... minutes....  Even now... I plot my revenge.

Meanwhile, I am extracting dues from him by putting the studio (that is "Studio Zero") through her paces this morning. So, here we are. Perhaps we'll try to throw together a quick remix on-the-fly for you. Maybe I'll show this weak excuse for a DJ how we do it at Studio Zero. Or maybe we'll tag-team. Maybe, if we get the phone hookup working, we'll take reader calls.  (Or not).  Who knows?

Join us...

...and see.

http://cdo.zerohedge.com:8000/listen.pls

Stream is alive now.  We'll go "Live live" at 8:20amish ET.

5:00 ET Update:

We're back.  A quick reboot and Studio Zero returns.

Or is he our dear Lloyd from "Dumb and Dumber" who might have taken time out from his adventures in Aspen for a little side-trip to who knows where?  The other day my daughter put a notice on her social network that her bed had collapsed and the pets heads were falling off--unfortunately, i missed the joke and got worried, until all of here friends replied to her "status" with other "DUMB and DUMBER" memorabilia!

Today's NYTimes...Paulson ethics on AIG bailout to feed GS.  Interesting, that Paulson claims that it was FED who insisted on saving AIG..Fed say's it was Paulson...

In the end it does not matter, the monster was saved, get out the candy.

Ben_the_Bald's picture

There's more than the AIG bailout at stake in this ethics question. For example, granting bank holding company status to Goldman after letting LEH go under. GS is still a bank holding company BTW, even though their business model has nothing to do with it.

GS is an hedge fund masquerading as a bank so that they can rape the people. The AIG thing was the icing on the cake.

"Traces left behind by many a sweating beer bottle (always imported... as proper attire forbids domestic labels of any kind or anything that looks properly placed when near any General Motors product"

Do not casually demean domestic beer.  America is well into a craft beer revolution that largely renders buying imports unnecessary, nigh onto silly, except for (desirable) oddities such as Flemish sours, or Westy 12 and the like.  I know for a fact you have access to Sly Fox beers in NYC.  I'm curious to know what beer you feel the need to import.

Except if you're buying well-known imports, in which case I don't even want to know about it.

Hey, Marla - Nice shit.  I have a lot of connections with studios in NYC - I started sweeping floors & making coffee for the guys @ Electric Ladyland back in 1983 (I was 13 at the time and I grew up a few blocks away on Cornelia St. - I badgered them until they let me in the door) and eventually "interned" & got on the payroll as an asst. engineer when I was 17; shortly afterwards I and some friends built our 1st studio from scratch in the basement of Westbeth, over on Bethune St. (down the hall from SD50, which you're probably too young to remember); over the years I've worked @ Chung King, Charles Lane, Dubway, Greene St. and a host of others (at some point or another I've pretty much sat behind the boards @ every major studio & minor shithole in NYC.)

Anyway, my point (have faith, there is one) is that if you need any help scoring gear, I can get you, like, @ least 25% off cost on just about any equipment you might need, vintage or otherwise.  Let me know.  I live in LA now, but I'm out there basically every other month.

Keep it up, it sounds great.  Good luck.

Stopped cooking to come in here and say I just lurve when you say that... lol.

Back to simmering balsamic/honey reductions for chicken, soy/honey reduction for veggies... haha.

Thanks all on the SZ/ZH crew - and welcome to Lloyd - double trouble with you and Marla around.  All the better for our ears and souls.

Hey Anony!

Thank you for your thoughtful reply!  I wish i had asked for help sooner!  For all the MP3 players i have bought, i should have gotten one for myself so i wouldn't be so behind on all of this!

Thank you again for your kind help!
