Stunning New Footage Of Incoming Tsunami

Tyler Durden's picture

As per the BBC, newly emerged footage shows the force at which the tsunami struck Japan's coast. In the fishing port of Miyako, in Iwate prefecture, boats
were overturned, while video from Kamaishi city shows cars being dragged
down city streets by the water. Footage courtesy of TV Asahi.

And even more disturbing, courtesy of EscapeKey:

We are so fragile and we pretend otherwise every day of our lives.

A Man without Qualities's picture

Just yesterday, right outside my apartment, a car ran a red light doing about 70mph. It clipped another car and flew into a group of pedestrians, killing 3 and injuring another 8.  One family was standing at the lights, the car went over the father and 2 kids and killed the mother standing just behind.  I know it pales into insignificance relative to events in Japan, but I missed being there by a couple of minutes.  You imagine you'd somehow be quick enough, but the reality is it's just luck. Same luck as the guys in the clip driving away from the tsunami - turn right or left on the road determines if you live or die...

Longer, higher quality of the same video from RT:

I finished a contract and stayed an extra night to have a few drinks with the boys.  The dodge was fueled and packed and at 7 am I grabbed a coffee and hit the road.  I filled up along the way but consciously didn't get another coffee because the lineup, I had to go.  An hour later I had a head-on crash with a drunk.  Good thing he was in a small car or I would have been toast.

I had to drive twelve hours to meet that guy at that place and time.

Guess the nukes weren't enough huh?

Wow. There sure are a lot of stupid people on Facebook.

You cannot fix stupid !

Please, please, please tell me this isn't real, it can't be. Can it?

Could we ship these people over to Japan to, perhaps, help with reactor containment?

taisen's picture

I believe they are real..sorry...

I'm seriously happy that this didn't spark self-righteous comments agreeing with these morons, who apparently resent life..

I hate what that link leads to but it is certainly something that folks need to see. They are fucking numb and dumb. They need to look up Hiroshima and Nagasaki. They need more, but I won't say what.

farragut's picture

Those folks are unbelievable. Everytime I think I've seen the worst of humanity, I realize I've grossly underestimated them--again....

UGrev's picture

#1 reason why I think bugging-in with the general population around me scares the shit out me worse than the SHTF situation itself.

Lord Welligton's picture

That link leads to a knowledge of ignorance.

Knowing that ignorance exits is essential to knowing that one exists.

We live in a soup of ignorance.

TwoShortPlanks's picture

Not one of those posts came from someone old enough to have lived through that event in the first place, so, realistically, it's just the bottom end of the IQ band starved for some attention, any attention, and posting comments annunciating that intelectual disposition with's those same type of people who bang the drum of war hoping to get some nightly entertainment on the TV while seated comfortably in their armchair, and living a pointless consumer-based existence. It is the loathing of their own lives which has manifested into the loathing of others, others whom they have no direct contact or first-hand experience with, but to whom they wish the deepest of hatred.

Psychology 101: The bigger the front, the bigger the back.

END 20c worth.

DukkButt's picture

I don't know what "the end" will be, but when you see stuff like this (gloating over Japan's misfortune), you know it is getting closer. Take a good look around. When all you see is fear, anger, hate and apathy (or "Comfortably Numb" ala Pink Floyd  * ), in all of their possible combinations, again, you know "the end" is near. I have reached comfortably numb. I know people like CD think that something can still be done, but I don't believe it. The best I can rouse myself to is to shoot the *&^%ers when they come to confiscate my guns. A sure death sentance, but I wouldn't want to live in the world that comes after that anyway, and if enough of us do that they might decide they don't want our guns that badly after all.

* Pink Floyd, "Comfortably Numb"

When I was a child, I caught a fleeting glimpse

Out of the corner of my eye

I turned to look, but it was gone

I cannot put my finger on it now

The child has grown, the dream is gone

I.....have become.....Comfortably Numb

That's twisted; the battle should be on idealogy, the contest: debate. The goal:  some semblance of truth.

Any m'f*cker can kill any other m'f*cker ... see?

That's elementary.

Did the Government pay for your degree in sociopathy?

Picked up on the streets ... classroom education can be so, limiting and non-reflective of the scope and dimension seen in real-life (stated outright just in case your experience base might have been artificially restricted) -

- my Lord.

Ident 7777 economy's picture

BTW, my Lord, have you nothing to say to the original poster, Michael, who kicked off this series of interchanges?

Planning to stand mute?

Mark McGoldrick's picture

Don't attempt to defend yourself.  Lot's of lunatics in this world - you're not the only one.

Wishing the disaster happened in NY or SF reflects a pathetically sick mind, just like all the libertarians who took so much satisfaction and amusement in the Tucson tragedy.

That, coupled with equating the economies of Iceland and the United States is indicative of someone who is completely in outer space.

Goldust's picture

No real Libertarian would take pleasure in that tragedy.  Your ignorance is on display for all to see...  Cocksucker.

In fact, "Cocksucker" doesn't even come close to the effin' disgust I feel at your comment.  You are true and 100% ignorant moronic trash... scum of the earth garbage.  Eat shit and die you ignorant bastard.

akak's picture

Goldust, I wouldn't even give such a willfully ignorant worthless piece of trash the dignity of addressing them as if they deserved any shred of human respect after such a vile and outrageous series of posts.

Mark McGoldrick's picture

Your command of low-brow, barnyard profanities is impressive, unfortunately your political affiliation isn't.

Don't get mad at me for putting a mirror in front of your face; these are the comments and opinions of your party: doomer libertarians with no capacity for compassion and who frequently hang out in trees.  For instance, Michael (a hard-care libertarian and a prolific poster on this site) expressed yesterday that he wished the Japan tragedy happened in NY or SF instead - his words, not mine.

Secondly, a simple review of the Tucson tragedy posts will show a disgusting lack of compassion by an overwhelming number of libertarians at this site.  That lower brain stem mentality is further proof that humans descended from lizards and apes, and some of us are a little behind on the journey.

These are your people and their opinions, not mine.  Next time you attend a "freedom" rally or a Tea Party gathering, take a look up in the trees... you'll find the actual number of participants is much greater than you think. And for the love of God, don't bring bananas with you: you'll incite a riot.

BigJim's picture

Hey, statist, a single one of your masters has a much greater taste for the blood of innocents than any number of libertarians.

New World Chaos's picture

If this is real, I'm glad these assholes are all dumb enough to use their real names and pics.  Google is forever.  Their comments will live in infamy.

With this 'logic' its fine for those in the Mid-east to say 9/11, karma for the shit the US is/has been pulling in their countries for decades. There are some seriously fucking stupid people in this world.

MsCreant's picture

Ya'll are sweet. Thanks! Makes a girl feel good.

While I have not "fought" anyone per se recently, there was a woman at the park two weeks ago who had her dog on one of those leashes that unwind a long way and fold up into a round canister thing. Her dog went after my husband, barking, snapping. My husband was polite and just walked away, thing is, the leash kept running. She was on her cell phone. I asked her to "please" get control of her dog. I don't know what the fuck was wrong with her, she just let the dog do what it wanted, that leash was out pretty far and that dog was at my husband. I didn't think or anything, I just got in her face and screamed at her, "Get your dog off my husband." Finally, she started reeling that thing in, but she looked soooo offended, as if I was in the wrong. Spacy bitch. I had to laugh later, my husband said it was no big deal, but I felt like he was cornered into the gentleman role and couldn't act. I wasn't. Don't think I would assult her, but I might take the fucking leash from her and do what she was not doing. The dog was nuts.

Another time, couple years ago, my husband had a broken arm in a cast, and broken teeth (had been in a bike accident, he is okay now). We were walking and some guys slowed down to wolf whistle and hassle me. He started making kissing gestures at them. They slowed down more at first, and then they drove off really fast. They were clearly scared. I will never forget it. I've got his back every day of the week.

Thanks for having mine.

Lord Welligton's picture

Why didn't you just kick the dog in the mouth.

And I mean really hard?

that dog hates men.  I have met a couple.  a little abuse at the hands of a man and the dog is ruined, forever hating men.  The bitch obviously enjoyed her dog attacking your husband.   A kick in the teeth would have done her good.

Miss Expectations's picture

Everyday I get a virtual parade of dog walkers thinking it's just fine to let their dogs shit on my lawn.  Apparently, there are only a few people left who know how to behave and we are pushed to the ends of our leashes on a daily basis.  During my last dog-walker altercation, my husband said that I had to stop yelling at the neighbors.  I don't start out yelling.  I ask them to not walk their dogs on my lawn and I, too get the offended looks.  I am at the point where I don't want any neighbors.

MsCreant's picture

Sometimes the dogs will poo in my yard too and I don't like it either. I am wondering if putting up a good quality white picket fence is the thing to do. I could grow grapes on it too maybe. ;-)

Mother nature warning us to slow down ?

All that oil, ore dug up from her core ought to have some consequences ?

Wow you're an idiot. There have been earthquakes along the Pacific rim since it has existed. Nobody is drilling for oil off the coast of Japan.

"Mother nature warning us to slow down ?"

For God's sake grow up.

There is no such thing as "Mother" nature.

You exist you die.

What you do in between is your business.

That's all there is.

Did "Mother" decide to move the earth to teach me?
