The Sudden Lust for Semiconductors Renewed

Once again, old habits die hard. Everyone remembers the time at a young age when they went to a strip club and went all the way with the hottest stripper. No different than the stock junkies, who remembered the SOX rocketing from 200 to 1300 in a mere 18 months.

That same teenager who remembered his first and finest time at the strip club is still attempting to find the same experience again at age 45, even though he's been skanked out and robbed at least 50 times since then by various pole dancers.

It seems that the gigantic run in the semiconductors in 1998 - 2000 is so burned into the memory of speculators, they will never give up trying to bandwagon these stocks again and again in hopes of scoring on another epic run.

Anyone remember this??

Any accident that all these charts look exactly the same?

That's because the same eyeballs are all looking at the same 5-minute charts and 9000 hedge fund managers are all hitting the F12 keys at exactly the same time and all these managers are trying to "make their year" by gunning the highest beta sectors possible.

No different than the supermodels that live in Los Angeles.

They all use the same plastic surgeons.

They all inject the exact same doses of Botox.

They all sleep with the same movers and shakers that can "make things happen".

They all want to "make their career" by becoming Victoria's Secret models.

Must be because of this:

Demand for IC products from the PC and motherboard sectors have slowed down, according to sources at IC distributors, who expressed caution about the third quarter.

Although current order visibility in general has reached July, the momentum is not strong enough, the sources noted.

Shipments of IC parts to the motherboard sector will be weak in June due to a relatively high level of inventory at motherboard makers, said the sources, indicating that the trend may last into the third quarter.

Too bad I didn't invest in those same clubs though I had great returns - about three times a week. Back in the day, you could spend $6 for bottle of St. Pauli girl at the Newark airport, or you could watch the look-alike Pauli girl, and drink a $5 Heineken at a local club.

Oh, and those semiconductors, yech !

It's easy to make money as a semi company when you've laid off all your R&D staff, are running your fabs at 50% capacity, have your customers on 20 weeks lead time so they'll pay whatever you ask to get parts. Sooner or later you will have to start the fabs up again, but since you haven't developed anything new in 3 years... whoops!. Make sure (if you're a semi exec) you pay yourself a handsome bonus from the juicy cash flow.
