Televizing The (Second) Greek Revolution - Three Live Streams From Syntagma Square

Tyler Durden's picture

Greece's D-Day has arrived: June 15 may soon be the 2011 equivalent of May 6, 2010 when the reaction to the realization that Greece was insolvent hit the population, together with a peak in hostilities, not to mention the US market flash crashing. In addition to a general strike, thousands are already packing the central Syntagma square in Athens, where MPa have started congregating to commence deliberations on the Troica's mid-term fiscal proposal. Already there has been tear gas fired at protesters who are gradually shifting away from their peaceful posture and slowly becoming unruly. Below is a live feed of the square as well as a link to an English live blog following up to the minute events.

Live stream 1:

11:30 am Thousands gather at the rally of public and private sector labour unions GESEE & ADEDY at Pedio toy Areos Park.

Athens Metro Station ‘Evaggelismos’ is closed. The metro passes through but passengers can not get on or out.

11:40 Greek media decided to cancel their strike after 12:00 at noon time – Greeks want information on such important day, right!?

PM Papandreou will hold an extraordinary meeting with President
Papoulias at 1 pm. He will reportedly call another meeting with
political leaders to seek consensus for the Mid-Term Package.

11:55 Thousands Boos were heard when the Prime Minister’s convoy headed to PM’s manor.

Protesters hurled eggs, bitter oranges and bottles with water over the riot-police ‘wall’ to the President’s convoy

The rally organized by Greek Communist Party labour union PAME is heading to the Parliament. Estimated more than 15,000 people.

12:30 Tension as protesters tried to push down the ‘iron blockade’. They hurl water bottles over the blockade to riot policemen.

For 21 days the protests were peaceful. However the ‘iron &
plexiglass wall’ seems to have the same effect as a piece of a red cloth
has on a bull.

12:57 There are reports of fired tear gas against protesters at
Rigilis Sq – 500 me from Parliament – there are reports of clashes among
protesters’ groups

video – earlier: protesters attack the iron blockade

13:10 Big tension at Rigilis Sq – Tear gas – Protesters tried to
break through riot police – Police and protesters chase each other

PM Papandreou meeting with the President ” National effort is needed,
we are in crucial historical moment. National consensus is needed. I am
in contact with political leaders on this. We will continue with
responsibility to bring the country out from the crisis”.

Scenarios speak of the establishment of a broader governement , after Friday, with the participation of all political parties.

13:16 small scale riots hooded, indignants, far-leftists and
far-rights, riot police, tear gas right in front of the Parliament.
Efforts to push away the hooded – provocation to spoil the peaceful
protest???

13:46 Still tension – Indignant Greeks chase hooded Greeks hurling
molotof cocktails. Sticky air due to exessive use of tear gas in front
of the Parliament.

The Irish are tough.

They are not to be messed with.

They know how to fight !

Until. Until their money is being stolen by the bankers.

Which is met by a shrugging of shoulders, a waving of placards, a day at the liquor store, a sense of apathy and helplessness.

And that's about it.

Wow !

And this was once the people that would threaten to bomb Thatcher to pieces.

How times have changed.

10 years of Euro fattening has made them complacent and spoilt.

Now they're being sent to the austerity slaughterhouse.

Because it cannot be that private banks should have to suffer even $1 of losses.

Under no circumstances ! Heaven forbid !

+1 They don't care, it seems. You can count on some tears the next few years when the transfer of power is complete and they'll turn it into a farm with some serves working on it. By then, it will be too late. Hardly any young people interested in their future. Too busy playing xbox to even care. The inverted totalitarian state has proven to be an excellent model. It's power is invisible, it's control and strategies too intricate, the coöperation it demands flows into daily life without a visible seam.

Greeks too. One square. A few squirmishes. A few rounds of teargas. No buildings taken, No gates breached. there's 20.000 max in that square. Some people dancing, they seem happy. A fat bloke taking pictures with a huge camera. Observers, not angry participants. IF they want something, that is not enough.

If anyone wants freedom and self determination, you have to fight for it. It's easy being a debt slave. You just live and do whatever they tell you. Greece had it all, and squandered it for some illegal swimming pools, and a few hollidays. There were no reasons to complain for most, since everyone in the power pyramid got what they wanted. Corruption accepted as long as it was attainable for everyone. Fools. There are no rules. It will all be taken away, since it's no longer yours. That is the way of the world.

So Greece, it's now or never. Choose.

I'm 75% Irish, and what I've seen in my own family is that, yes, the Irish are tough- and do know how to fight.  I haven't seen much feminization in my clan, or any of the other Irish families I know.  We still beat one another to bloody ribbons for fun.

But there's the other side to that coin, too.  There's the drinking, the self-hatred, and the grandiose words that fall right back into the bottle they came from.  Everyone has their demons.

In this case, though, I don't think that those demons are the issue.  As I said, I'm 3/4 Irish myself, and I'm ready to fight- not later, but right now.  Here's the problem- there's really no one to fight with.  Who am I going to shoot- my neighbors?  Maybe I could mess up a slightly-over-minimum wage bank teller- that would sure make the NWO shake in it's boots...

When the tanks come rolling down the street, I know what to do.  When a rigged market is siphoning money out of my wallet, there is no target to aim at.  Hence the reading here- hoping to find a new way to fight.

Send a banker my way, I'll be happy to hang 'em high with their guts opened and dangling down to the street.  But we have to clear the fog first.  Help with that, and the 3%ers will do the rest.

No he didn't! What are you talking about? This? http://www.wakeupfromyourslumber.com/node/6720 That's unfounded rumours, and a flawed idea that the german economy was strong: It was gearing up for war. It was never intended that it would be a self sustaining economy. They needed "lebensraum" because the only way a war economy can survive is constant conflict and expansion. They needed oil and that was the big push into russia.

There's a pervasive idea and it's commonly accepted that war economies and war guarantee an economic upswing. You can find in textbook history books that the second world war ended a global period of economic slowdown. This creeps into every discourse about it. It's a lie. Wars are only profitable to the ones supplying the means, not to the people of these countries. http://georgewashington2.blogspot.com/2010/10/idiot-washington-post-call...

The Nazis were sponsored by big industry (IG Farben, Krupp, Siemens, incl. IBM and american banks) from start till the end. Big money got them in power, big money could experiment with new models of industrial production. They saw the whole experiment as a catalyst. They based their model of state loosely on the Italian fascist state, which had perfected it's system, and, before being dragged into war by it's leaders, had a firm grip over Italy.

After the war the real power brokers got off with a slap on their wrist, and resumed their positions at the leaders of the german industry. Instead of looking back, the whole country looked forward. The technology developed in the concentration camps now found applications in the new world, nothing changed, only the name. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5xvYglViNI

war helping economies is just another example of the broken window theory or Keyne's allegory about paying people to dig ditches and then paying someone else to fill it up.  No incremental productive value has been created. It is just another variation of the confidence game.

Everyone is having fun watching this, this morning - like UFC fight night.

If this ever comes to the shores of North America, it ain't going to be pretty. How many millions of Americans have extensive military training? How many guns exist in the US? Our silver won't be worth much if its stolen and family members are dead.

Revolution has a romantic notion, but the movies don't capture the awful reality that it brings. Be careful of what you wish for...

During the great depression the only thing my ancestors noticed is that more people started eating cornbread.  It just wasn't a major deal for country people in my area.

I don't make as much money as my city brethren, but there are some benefits of a semi rural lifestyle in a land where nobody likes a parasite.  The real americans around here would rather starve than beg, but fortunately they will never have to do either because there is still community.

Nothing is going to change until firearms are used.  Why should a bankster care if people walk in the street, as long as they still get taxpayer money sent to their bonus accounts?

There has to be blood coming out of gunshot wounds before the banksters will perceive any risk to themselves, which is all that matters.

Think again, it's coming...................

And it'll be you up against the wall instead of the military.

When the welfare nations of the world realize, like greeks have, that the party is finally over they will go absolutely apeshit like these freeloaders are.

The days when you actually have to make your own way are here again. You will be required to look after your own families instead of having us, the fucking taxpayer, do it for you.

Yes you'll have granny and grampy downstairs yelling for you to wipe their asses instead of you going for a drive in your Bimmer you'll be stuck at home tending your family.

The look on the freeloaders face as their realization that they fucked is truly spectacular.

It's about goddamned time..........

Yes, really.  Perhaps not in every individual case, but on aggregate they have been promised amounts that are mathematically impossible to pay.  What can't be paid, won't be paid.

The link you provide has no relevance to the Public/Private sector pay debate.

BTW - Quoting the Bolshevic Broadcasting Corporation and the TUC does not strengthen the case.  One would expect nothing else from these far from impartial bodies.  To be honest I am surprised that anyone who reads ZH still takes any notice whatsoever of the BBC and their ludicrous 'Official' version of reality.

I have been financial planning  for years to avoid the future rip offs that will occur as sheeple realize they aren't going to get what they were promised.

The initial reaction will be to go after the producers even more aggressively.   Of course this will just make things worse as producers realize they might as well take it easy and enjoy idle free time.

They will not get any more from me, and at some point they are going to get far less!

True.

I've been discovering that the Galt effect is not an entirely voluntary choice, as Rand would have had it.  When you get to the point where people ask more every day, and offer nothing more in return, it's not just hard, but virtually impossible to continue to work at full capacity, and a guy finds himself just wanting to pack up and go home.

This wage stagnation is an example of how market capitalism has failed according to the BBC.

You have not tried market capitalism since about 1930 in the UK.

And it does confirm my belief that they will come after people like me.  They will leave the rich alone, but they will come after people like me and try to take my money.  That is the only way "dividing the wealth more fairly" could be interpreted.

It's pretty obvious the government parties inserted provocateurs into what for 21 days was a peaceful movement. They got what they wanted: the indignant have been cleared from Syntagma.

But they'll be back, and there will be more. All they have done is angered the silent majority.

The Australian has a good article on recent chinese riots.  There were an estimated 180,000 riots in china last year.  Even with four times the population of the USA that is still a lot.

The Chinese authorities are terrified of people actually expressing their opinions peacefully through blogs and newspapers.  This kind of repression ultimately leads to revolution.  The people have inalienable rights no government can take away, except at that government's peril.  The most basic is the right to speak freely.

Let the Jas-mine revolution continue!

Also today we have tried to stop the Catalan parliament, unsuccessfully, to vote the next budget. Some violence (which I don't approve, at least at this stage of events), though the media overplays it, of course, since it serves their interests. And a promise form the Catalan president to use violence if we try to stop members of the parliament when they exit. He had to enter the parliament by helicopter, by the way. The links:

So let me get this straight..this is a conflict between lots of Bankers who don't want to accept the losses associated with the risky bond sthey bought (and turned out bad) and on the other side lots of people who don't want their generous benefits cut to Bail out the Banker/Bondholders?

Is that right?

However, few if any are going to realize that it is the SYSTEM of government that has failed them, not these particular dirtbag politicians that happened to run them aground THIS time around. Sadly true.  It's interesting how often the protesters are described as "democracy demonstrators" or other such euphemisms, as if they are advocating greater liberties.  As you correctly note, the real reason they are pissed off is that the social safety net gravy train has finally run out of track.  This is what happens when you make unsustainable entitlement promises.  You can get pissed off at the banks or your politicians or whatever, and they may be pieces of shit, but at the end of the day if the people demand the cradle-to-grave nanny state, this is the inevitable conclusion.  It's only a matter of how long it takes and how egregiously imbalanced the system is.

You need de Gaulle's ghost in France. No shit....that is what true regression is. Whenever a country goes militarist/absolutist it means its lost IT totally. Now if you say regression is necessary for subsequent progression I could buy that. But right now tiny Greece is just the pimple of the first signs of a larger disease...And its not STATE side control...quite the contrary...its private oligarchy rule that has squashed, corrupted, "she-maid-in-Sofitel N.Yorked" the public sector of the western world. Deep penetration at the expense of the next generation, innocent collateral victims of this hubristic rip-off. So you old cynics better take stock of next generation's unbegotten legacy imposed by others like "original sin".

May the Greeks be successful in taking their country back from the financial institutions that seek to enslave them and conquer the rest of europe in a bout of economic genocide.  Politicians have proven that they only work for their one true master: global crony capitalists and the never ending worship of greed.

Much like in Greece and everywhere else in the world, life can will be better once the current system is overthrown.  It is our individual rights, liberty, and pursuit of happiness and opportunity that is at stake and is currently trying to be taken away-- not only for ourselves, but for generations to come.

The illusion of the necessity of the current financial system is cracked. They will not succeed in the economic genocide and a better life for all will follow once we break the shackles of the current system.

People cannot be enslaved if they don't believe in getting freebies.  Politicians give out freebies to get elected.  Freebies lead to debt.  Debt leads to enslavement by the banks.

Default is inevitable. The Drachma will return. The Euro is doomed, unless it survives as the currency of the northern tier -- minus Ireland.

This clusterfuck is the result of a misguided experiment trying to blend regions with contrasting productivity and compunded by moral hazard. Guess what? The Euro-Med periphery has a different work ethic than the northern tier, to put it mildly.

It may be government debt, as observed above, but these borrowed funds were siphoned by insiders or squandered on a do-little socialist agenda supporting a population that refuses to pay taxes and insists on starting dinner at 11PM.

Let the Greeks walk, and let the banks take the hickey. A plague on both their houses. No free lunch. At the end of the day an economy must produce. 'Swhy we are headed for an ugly reckoning in Amerika. Say hello to fascism in your future.
