Whether or not large nations actually go bankrupt, one thing is clear . . . Larry Summers, Ben Bernanke, Tim Geithner and their foreign counterparts have failed ...
Very quiet, boring day today. Keeping an eye on the European banks and the resilient semiconductors. If the girls can get themselves out of rehab and the banks cen get something going, then a reaction rally might be due. Otherwise, its back to "Risk Revulsion and Convulsion".
All for turkey and football, but this does seem to be shaping up to be an interesting market day... Dubai World says "the check's in the mail", foreign stocks (esp. big Dubai creditor HSBC) choke on their own vomit, London exchange halts trading due to "technical difficulties"...
Lets all enjoy our last "Turkey Day" as Obama 2.0 will be available in stores soon. Next year we will all be eating government cheese and turkey brick.
Yes, happy thanks giving. Trading in the London exchange has been interrupted while bank stocks were crashing. The cause is, of course, unrelated. The cause for the halt was just a technical glitch.
Yes, Thanksgiving unofficially marks the end of non-winter, even though weeks remain on the calendar. This year, thanks to the tireless efforts of ZH and others, we anticipate and prepare as best we can for this coming winter. So, THANK YOU, and if I might take this opportunity to remind my American brethren, tough times or no, we DO have much to be thankful for. It is all too easy to forget our standard of living is measured full brackets higher than most of the world. Our poor are often well off in comparison to the world. Our struggling middle class, wealthy. We haven't just exported our manufacturing base to China, but the worst of the pollution that came with it, and so the many of the citizens get punished far more than the Government in their dealings with the West. Be Thankful and be Introspective this year my friends. Peace.
Ya that's because Dubai is ready to join Iceland and Argentina by defaulting on their Sovereign debt.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone and thanks ZH for everything.
Does no one think its ironic that we're celebrating a holiday while Rome is burning?

Of course gold hit $1195 and is retreating (for the moment) and the Dollar Index almost slipped below 74 (though its bouncing back up for the moment)...
Meanwhile, we will ignorantly continue to expect life to go on as it always has, buying what we can't afford, what we don't need, stuffing ourselves with so much food we need surgery to get it out...
When this machine stops, it's going to be like 1,000 people playing Musical Chairs with only 1 chair. May God have mercy on the USA.
While this particular internet meme is false. We do have a system that relies on the free flowing digestion of complete lies falsehoods and stupid justifications. Our ascended masters are going to get a little constipated and when this sucker finally takes the big number 2. You're going to want to have air freshner handy. So have some good short speaches to give when you're staring down your gun barrel. Words are cheaper than ammo and only the people who won't listen are worth the bullets.
It is worth noting that while MSM is enjoying the parade and various football games the best financial blog on the internet continues to churn out the most relevant, breaking news stories.
Be careful you all are really spoiling us. We might get used to it.
Thanks Tyler, Marla, et al at ZH. Glad to see that others share my dark, dark perspective of the traditional holiday gatherings.
I'm a young professional, and when asked by numerous acquaintances (most of them my senior) about my holiday plans, virtually all of them were horrified that I intended on spending Thanksgiving by myself. I'm not sure if they were more appalled by my solitude, or that I declined the invitations to join their dysfunctional get togethers.
Regardless, it's good to see that ZH hasn't skipped a beat, and I'm waiting for the oddsmakers to weigh in on the over/under for Black Friday and the following Online Monday sales numbers.
