Three Killed In Gaza Airstrike As Mossad Chief Says Israel "Risks Becoming A Burden On The US"
It appears that tensions are escalating between Gaza and Isreal. The Jerusalem Post reports that 3 members of an Islamic militant group had been killed after launching two rockets into southern Israel, which "landed in open areas and caused no injuries." This was allegedly immediately followed by an airborne retaliation: "The IDF confirmed it had carried out an airstrike Tuesday, and Gaza's chief medical examiner said there were three deaths." Doesn't end there: the Israeli media reports that "two Palestinian terrorists were identified infiltrating into Israel from the southern Gaza Strip earlier this morning. The soldiers on the scene exchanged fire with the terrorists, killing them both." We are still awaiting for the other perspective on these escalations, although so far have been unable to attain an impartial view on events.
In other news Al Jazeera quotes Mossad Chief Meir Dagan as saying on Tuesday that Israel is progressively becoming a burden on the United States. "Israel is gradually turning from an asset to the United States to a burden," said Dagan, speaking before the Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee.
Also, here is the latest news on the Gaza flotilla massacre:
A senior Israeli occupation army officer also spoke at the committee meeting on Tuesday, explaining the details of the army's operation on the Gaza flotilla on Monday.
He said that the army had decided against sabotaging a ship in the Gaza flotilla at the center of Monday's deadly clashes, out of fear that the vessel would be stranded in the middle of the ocean and at risk of a humanitarian crisis.
And in all this hoopla, the whole world has ignored the fact that three Israeli German-made subs (the irony here is beyond commentary) armed with nuclear cruise missiles are now tactically positioned just off the Iranian coast. One can only hope the escalation in regional hostilities does not lead to a direct offensive involving substances that have a far longer half-life than the ECB's intervention in currency markets these days.

Yeah, it's really tough to form a functioning state when you're under brutal occupation and your people are being systematically exterminated.
Nicely played, douchebag.
I am Chumbawamba.
So explain how Israel benefits by brutally occupying and systematically exterminating the Palenstinians? Don't leave out the part where the Palestinian leadership steals all the aid money given to it by the rest of the world and especially the US.
Please don't feed this new troll...No matter how much he begs...
OK -- Chumba? Ignore the troll?
Just for you ;)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troll_%28Internet%29
You are the troll, dude...
I wonder how Turkey likes Isreal training Iraqi Kurds. As long as they are ethnicly cleansing the arabs from the area and to create a ethnic power block to grab the huge oil field in the area no problem. But at some point the flavor of the month will shift again to eastern turkey.
Yep.
I am Chumbawamba.
I am Scumbawumba and I'm going to jackoff when Israel is destroyed. Genocide is bonerific!
Agree completely, there are only so many people that can be killed, so many people imprisoned, so much land stolen, so many countries attacked, so many ruined lives, so much lack of respect for other people and so much hatred created before things reach a tipping point.
The Jewish people should know this better than anyone, and yet those in power in Israel do not act towards others as they wish to be treated themselves.
Israel has been slowly digging it's own grave (and those of others) for a long time which is a tragedy since there are of course many good israelies who will eventually suffer from this.
If it was the Palestinians (or anyone else) doing the killing, stealing, jailing an entire people and other inhumane acts I and anyone else with any sense of morality would condem them too, but it's not.
Peace.
If everyone understands it's PR, is it really PR?
It's a good thing Israel has so many concerned friends willing to help it with its strategy and PR. Why, if they'd just avail themselves of all the free advice they're getting, I'll bet this whole misunderstanding between Israel and its neighbors could be settled in a jiffy.
It's always PR to those who wish to believe the PR. The lie is rarely intended to turn minds, only to keep the caged minds refreshed and invigorated.
Hundreds of posts in this piece and in Marla's earlier piece and you, one of the most vocal posters on here, choses not to offer an opinion on this crime but rather to only post the above two lines.
Have I misunderstood your previous posts so much, or did you sell out?
".....one of the most vocal posters on here...."
Please describe what you mean by "vocal"?
Prolific maybe. Though the vast majority of time I'm talking about our psychology and collective insanity. But mama told this fool never to hit the hornet's nest with a stick and its clear from the posts on these threads that very few people are interested in introspection or understanding.
Most everyone seems too busy swinging a bunch of sticks at each others hornet's nest. I'll pass, thank you very much. My opinion? People died. This is not good. Period. To say any more than this in light of the hate displayed on this tread would be stupid on my part. In this case, it's better that people assume I'm stupid then to open my mouth and remove all doubt.
Oh come on, that's not fair. No one is obligated to offer anything. Not that I need to explain anything for CD. And not that I blame him at all for wanting to stay on the far fringes of this orgy of acrimony.
Me? I'm a warrior. I do battle with Zionists. I'm a zionist killer. This is what I thrive upon. And so I blather.
I wish I could stop, and go do something productive, but I can't. It's my calling.
I am Chumbawamba.
Chumba
I appreciate your neutral view of my non comments. I find the deaths deplorable and the information spin even worse. And you my friend are acting as stinky shit to the flies. :>) It's clear that this is a hot button for you for you're rarely this vocal for this long except on this subject.
As I've posted on the other thread, this subject is infected with Megaphone reflexes and thus there is no intention for sanity to prevail. Megaphone has one purpose and that is to promote a one sided view of the insanity. To attempt to discuss this subject openly and fairly is thus impossible. In my old age, I've learned that all I succeed in doing when facing this situation is to raise my blood pressure, not a healthy endeavor for me.
I assume you realize that many (but certainly not all) of the people you are fighting with have only been registered with ZH for a few weeks or months and that a quick check of their comment history shows many are only interested in one thing. Shadow boxing is all that you're doing here though I must say you're in superb shape and I love your constant insistance that you deal with measurable facts rather than spin and myth. :>)
why not just suck his cock :-)
you really are the eptiome of sychophancy...yes look it up.
Dude, you would be priveleged to drink the piss directly from that man's cock.
Go cover yourself you shameless harlot.
I am Chumbawamba.
<sigh>
Coldcall registered for 2 weeks and 2 days. I rest my case.
But if you would like to whip yours out and swing it around a little bit, I'm sure we can all accurately measure your brain power. My bad, you just did. Very impressive.
Well, thanks for being an island of sanity in this ocean of crazy.
Zionists are on the run and Americans are waking up to the reality of the situation in which they are but prisoners and pawns. Israel has few years left, so my work is almost done. I just want to make sure to be there to lend a hand when we're driving the stake through its cold, black heart.
I am Chumbawamba.
Interesting bit on Meir Dagan. Sounds like a challenge to Bibi.
Israel should move farther way from the US, and stop taking US aid money while they are at it. The Israel/US relationship is a weight around both nations necks.
Perhaps peace with the Palestinians would be more likely to occur without all the interference from outsiders.
Has the US, UK, EU, UN , Arab league, Iran, Saudi really helped the peace process? More like the kiss of death.
Yeah, Israel should stop taking US aid money. Please. Perhaps they can re-fill the 99% of the national budget they would lose from such a move by selling the organs of Palestinian prisoners. Oh, wait, they already do that.

Maybe Marla can write a humorous article about that? Ha ha ha. Would be so funny!
I am Chumbawamba.
Ah yes, Israel is guilty until proven innocent.
Hey chum, how about posting a list of duly-elected Jewish members of the Syrian parliament.
Oh...wait--
Hey, it worked for Israel when they demanded that Saddam prove he didn't have any nukes.
Turnabout is fair play. Unless you're a zionist, of course. Then you're God's Chosen People, making you unanswerable to mere mortals, I guess.
I am Chumbawamba.
Israeli Arab MP aka token.
Marla really got to you. What a fragile psyche bullies have.
Man, I really got to you. What a fragile psyche random impotent ZH comment posters have.
I am Chumbawamba.
Marla got to him????
Marla couldn't scratch his balls.
I might let her do that.
Whatever. News from the Gaza Strip is as newsworthy as Prechter announcing armageddon.
And this story is posted on Zero Hedge for what reason? It's influence on the curreny market? Stocks?
Or just another excuse to to let the anti-semites out of their cages for another feeding at the zoo?
+1
FYI THIS SITE IS WHOLLY OWNED BY THE CImotherfuckingA. Tyler and his tumor are agents of some government I'll betcha.Either that or their Swiss.
this disinfo pays very very well ...
Actually, it was to give me another opportunity to demonstrate everything that's wrong with the internets.

You do that with your every post chum.
That's because he IS Chumbawamba
The burden of Jerusalem has weighed on the wings of the Eagle for 62 years.
Its nothing new Dagan.
You are confusing Jerusalem with Barney Frank.
LMFAO!
Or, thweet, as Barney would say.
Not to get too kooky, but I get the sense that all the various insane tribes in the world are testing the ability of the US to intervene internationally in its fiscally strapped state.
Like the Suez Canal crisis spelled the end of the British Empire, the US' inability to act may signal the end of the American one.
i dont think thats too far from the truth. US has lost influence on both sides of the Israel/Palestine equation. It also appears helpless against the Iranians getting a nuke (having promised the Israelis they would make sure it never happened.)
US power is now waning, no doubt about it.
Yeah, sucks for Israel.
Something about not putting all your eggs in one basket comes to mind...
Then again, there's that old adage of "you reap what you sow".
I am Chumbawamba.
What does a genocidal tax-cheating deadbeat borrower reap?
Why, Financial Freedom, of course.
I am HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
ya thats about the tenth time you've rolled out the old: "sow what you reap". Come on, be more creative, you are becomg a boring fuck.
Oh, OK. How about:

Haha. I'm the Greatest Fool.
Oh well, I'll nail it next time.

+1 ... isn't the end of the imperial age horrible to live through?!... wouldn't it be a shame if it ended?!
personally (re: the mossad guy) i would like to know when and how israel ever was an asset to the u.s.
it certainly wasn't when turkey refused the u.s. airspace to attack iraq properly from the north. or when osama cited israel as one of his key reasons for 9-11. or when jonathan pollard (among others) spied on the u.s. and fed our secrets to israel. or when opec embargoed oil and raised oil prices following the yom kippur war. or when israel, france and britain (colonialists all) tried to seize the suez canal and ike (the last u.s. president with a clue as how to handle israel) had to back them down.
as general (and secretary of state) george marshall told truman at the birth of the zionist entity: it's a bad idea.
oh wait, i remember. we got the cool music that is the theme to the movie "exodus" (starring the also cool paul newman and his "unjewish" blue eyes).
They function as a canary in the coalmine. The bad guys in the middle east are rather obviously the dictators, mullahs, armed gangs, and hundreds of millions of misogynists. The tiny group of modern, well educated, democratic and multiculturally inclined people living and working hard in the relative paradise called Israel are the good guys. The bad ideas that make the region a problem for itself and for everyone else, since 13 centuries running, come directly from the totalitarian economic, legal, and cultural system known as "Islam". Islam makes peoples poor and ignorant. It is the success of people that reject their faith that makes islamic people so angry. Really, on a financial blog we at least ought to admit that economic policies built into Islam are a curse on every islamic state and its people. Similarly, we ought to recognize, again here on an economic blog, that Israel is very like the western world in regard to economics. We insist on freedom. So do they. Everyone around them insists on tyranny. Its a fair bet that gangs of premodern jerks attacking Israel are equally predisposed to do the same to us, the only difference being that Israel is closer by. Canary in the coalmine.
The Western world is socialist. The various central planning diktats that keep coming down (like green tech, cap and trade) shift it more towards national-socialism.
Actually, the people of the Western world generally love slavery. They're "bottoms." They love getting pissed on, tortured, and fucked in the ass. The population has become a perverted crew of proles.
This said by the white money changer who charges interest.
The irony of the global financial meltdown in light of the above drivel must really be eluding you right now.
I am Chumbawamba.
What is the point of all these stories about Israel? Pretty weak attempt to tie it into economics at the end but otherwise it seems pointless and only designed to spark some of the dumbest debate on the internet outside of youtube.
Thank you for reminding us that our ingrained-sense of the existence of some type of relationship between History, Sociology, Political Science and Economics is acutally IMAGINED.
Nothing is connected to anything else.
</sarcasm>
look, why don't we all just convert to Judaism, then we can all live in peace. Jesus will still be around. The catholic church can become an aid agency and contraception will be cheaper. Then we give the muslims the middle east and all move, i dunno, somewhere less dusty.
Jesus was a Jew. Christians have, in a sense, already converted. The Greeks and Romans had their own values which were jettisoned in favor of Jewish values. Jesus was a Trojan Horse, to paraphrase Nietzsche. False-values. Etc.
No, I'm not an ant-yadayada.
Tyler,
I suggest you leave some of the more critical analysis to the contributors at counterpunch:
http://counterpunch.org/
They have some excellent stuff, but read it with a critical mind.
Fuck Palestine. Fuck Islam. Go Israel!
The world has been trying to exterminate you for centuries. Go ahead and wipe the desert clean, and live in peace.
Our stupid fuck president will never do the hard work. Clinton is worthless as well. So it's up to you to take care of yourselves.
All of you anti-semites out there, especially you Chumba, can eat my shit.
It's like team sports, isn't it. You pick a team and support it. Kill the other side!!!
This kind of nonsense is no different from the rednecks who go to a nascar event and cheer when an opponent of their favorite driver gets in a fiery accident.
I think we'll leave eating your shit to your wife.
Maybe I'm a gay bear looking forward to fucking you up the ass!
Can someone please explain how Israel has ever been an asset? I am serious, I have no freakin' idea why anyone would consider them anything other than a UN mandated obligation / post WWII chairity case.
They don't make scapegoats like that anymore. Jews are a classic national asset.
in that case why have a nation full of them when they can be kept in house writing sitcoms, practicing law and absorbing blame?
Its really not practical to support the number 1 irritant of our energy providers no matter if the grievances are justified or not.
UN should just admit it made a mistake and give the Jews part of Bavaria to call their home.
Actually I remember reading a few years ago of a campaign started by a few young Israeli Jews who pushed for the idea of having a Jewish homeland in Europe, specifically Germany. Their idea was completely rational, and much better suited the historical facts of our time (given the realities of WW2 and what happened).
But to actually have a Jewish homeland in Europe would be inexcusable for Europeans, as much as they pretend to like Israel and support it, the reality is that they probably wouldn't support a Jewish homeland in the EU. Far too politically contentious.
And this before we even get into the history of Zionism. Homelands in Argentina and Madagascar were offered to the Zionist leaders but they were flatly refused, they knew full well that without Israel the "religious legitimacy" battle could never be waged and therefore their nation could never take off and receive full backing, economically and militarily from western powers, which Israel needs to this day to survive. The Zionist leaders played a very crafty hand when they demanded Palestine, it could so easily have been elsewhere. The nature of Zionism lies not in religion but in a secular trend, to entice the religious Jews it HAD to be Palestine, no less.
The fucking Europeans are more anti-Semitic than the Arabs, and I include Arabs in that anti-Semitism (i.e. true Semites).
Why do you think they so readily sent them all off to Palestine? They certainly weren't welcome in Germany amidst the majority of the population that were taught and programmed to hate and exterminate Jews.
Again, I blame the fucking White Man. We always hear about how this or that colored person is the cause of all the world's problems. Well, guess what? The fucking White Man has been running the show for several centuries now and the world is in worse shape than it's ever been.
Mull that over in your mind.
I am Chumbawamba.
You're ignorant. Europe's ruling class (Roman descendents) permitted Jews desperate immigration in order to divide and perturb the aboriginal population. Romans never described their skin as "white" even in contrast to Carthaginians (Palestinians' ancestors), but Caesar did remark the great stature and fair skin of Celts and Germans right before he ignited their villages.
I'm talking about now, not centuries in the past. And I'm speaking rhetorically.
White Man don't like being addressed by his color. Imagine that?
I am Chumbawamba.
The Israeli burden has already cost the US trillions of dollars down the drain. And before anyone accuses me of excessiveness read on.
The actual budgeted cost of payments to Israel stands at approx $101 Billion. Add in billions of dollars of backdoor, undeclared and un-budgeted costs that are paid to Israel every year. Add in payment of money transferred to Israel by banks and other corporations which should have been used elsewhere, all to guarantee the furtherment of Israel. Add in "cheap goods" that get given effectively to Israel for free. $50 million F-16's that Israel buys for pennies, million dollar missiles that it gets for free, all these costs add up, they are real and have to be borne by the US. And if you really want to look to the full spectrum of costs, you could easily add in technology transfers, especially of the military variety, which Israel receives for next to nothing, billions on research projects which are handed over.
And now we come to the wider costs of the US support for Israel. The unquantifiable loss of standing in the International Community. The covert protection that the US has to pay to protect Israel. Tens of Billions of dollars paid every year to puppet regimes around the world so they can further the Zionist agenda's e.g. Billions in Aid to Egypt's Hosni Mubarak in return for compliance on regional issues. Paying off Jordanians, high value technology transfers to Saudi's etc. All these costs are borne by the US, it comes out of the US pocketbooks.
And finally we come to the costs of waging wars for Israeli national interests. A touchy subject, and most do not like to acknowledge such realities. But the cost of the War in Iraq 2003, Bush and Blair with their beliefs that anything whatsoever that engenders Israel's safety is to be abolished. Costs of operations in Lebanon - specifically 1982. Operations in Syria etc. These have cost the US trillions of dollars for almost next to nothing in return. The US was kicked out of Lebanon, and is quagmired in Iraq whilst haemmoraghing money the likes of which the world has never seen.
To say Israel is a "burden" to the US is to say Sisyphus pushed a rock around. The reality is that this "chosen nation of God" has sucked on the US like a leech and in return the US has gained next to nothing, with the exception of having a watchtower in the Middle East and some intelligence links (I would actually see links with Mossad as a negative not a positive - and that's before we even get to the False Flag history of Mossad). And we really shouldn't discount the Zionist influence on Wall Street as well (but that's a subject that gets enough coverage on these pages anyway). So what exactly has the US gained?
So the next time some rabid Christian Evangelical spouts some nonsenical mockery of how supporting Israel makes the US favoured by God, take a deep breath and show them exactly what the US has gained, and where the US is headed, to a path of absolute bankruptcy and socio-economic collapse, thanks in no small part to its unequivocal connection with Israel.
You better knock that shit out if you don't want to be called "anti-Semitic" by one of the neocons here.
I am Chumbawamba.
Don't worry, the neo-cons will flip like a switch with what comes next.
Don't worry Chumbawamba, they can knock me down with the smear campaign of Ant-Semitism but I will get back up again, you're never gonna keep me down.
#Oh Danny Boy.....#
Nice ;)
There is always someone else for you to blame.

We're launching predator attacks on Pakistan every fucking day. I don't think this incident is going to matter much to the U.S. We're a burden to ourselves.
This was a staged event by Israel's detractors. When the idiots on this boat started attacking the Israelis with clubs and knives and firebombs, they got what they asked for. Israel offered them to unload the supplies after an inspection. Why did the Turks and protestor's refuse to comply if they sincerely were trying to provide humanitarian supplies? because it was a propoganda stunt to make Israel look bad. The Palestenians as a whole are savages. When Israel gave Gaza to them to control, what did they do? They burned down everything of value and began launching katyusha rockets into Israel. I wish Israel would run the Palis into Jordan (who talks a big game for the Pali friends, but does nothing to help them along with the rest of the Islamic world). Israel is a civilized democracy. And well, we all know what the rest of the Islamic world is in comparison. It amazes me that after World War II there is still such hate towards a peaceful and civilized people in Israel.
It was a stunt to make Israel look bad? Israel doesn't need any help in that regard, my dear.
Anyway, we have enough people advocating ethnic cleansing as it is. We have no quota for more. Please choose one of either a) organ harvesting, b) torturing child prisoners, or c) home demolitions.
I am Chumbawamba.
Chumbawumba, why don't you get on the next boat "humanitarian" boat from Turkey to Israel and help the poor Palestenians. I bet they would love you in Gaza. You would probably be treated as well as Daniel Pearl. Some people. The Palestenians are savages and thats who you back. Are you a jew-hater?
Jews never provided Palestinians the faculty of developing mores of civilized people; since Jews have continuously restricted them to cells, destroyed all institutions of civlization, reduced their daily cares to those of brute survival--in short deposed all Palestinians into zoos as animals. Jews since their occupation of Palestine have been permitted by US to construct modern houses, cultivate crops with modern science, instruct civilized institutions; yet it is the Jews who conduct themselves as animals or even insects in ruthlessly and inconsiderately killing unarmed women and children. Civilized humans such as Romans institute Rules of War such as Augustine's Just War, civilized rational humans exhaust instruments of rational dispute before resorting to violence, civilized rational humans do not kill non-combatants; all these the Jews do with a vicious depraved perverted glee as they sometimes dance Jew-style on the corpses of unarmed Arabs. Whether or not Palestinians are uncivilized or not is necessarily unknown, as they've never had a faculty of living a civilized life; Jews, though, provided gratis the benefits of American money have demonstrated themselves indisputably and clearly to be vicious incorrigible irredeemable savages. You can take the Jew out of the Ghetto but not the Ghetto out of the Jew.
A newly discovered diary of Harry S Truman indicates that the former president may have had a strongly negative opinion of Jews. In the diary, which includes 42 entries written in 1947, Truman recounts a conversation he had with Henry Morgenthau, the Secretary of the Treasury, who had phoned to discuss the fate of Jewish refugees. In criticizing the approach of Morgenthau, who was Jewish, Truman wrote in a July 21 passage, "The Jews, I find are very, very selfish. They care not how many Estonians, Latvians, Finns, Poles, Yugoslavs or Greeks get murdered or mistreated as D[isplaced] P[ersons] as long as the Jews get special treatment. Yet when they have power, physical, financial or political neither Hitler nor Stalin has anything on them for cruelty or mistreatment to the under dog."
Thank you for corroborating my argument. Jews are incorrigible and irredeemable.
"You can take the Jew out of the Ghetto but not the Ghetto out of the Jew."
There's the punchline folks, sort of equivalent to: "you can take the n*gger out of the jungle but not the jungle out of the n*gger"
And Cognitis was doing so well up to then - bless his cotton socks.
If you think that you are superior to every other nationality, that you have been given a mandate by your god (whether real or imaginary) to supress other nationalities and religions, how do you behave? As the fundamentalist Muslim does, so does the fundamentalist Jew (and historically the Roman Catholic etc) - they supress, indulge in "ethnic cleansing" etc. Kind of puts Cognitis' comment into an understandable frame of reference does it not?
The Jungle's ratio both persists in us all, but civilized humans restrain or eliminate the Jungle and are governed more by human reason; as the German hack Nietzsche wrote: "Vieles ist in Euch noch Wurm".
Your racist ignorance is plain to see Cognitis.
quoting Nietzsche too - impressive! How's Hitler Youth going these days?
This is satire right?
If you run out and stomp on every flaming bag that lands on your porch, eventually you're going to step in dog shit.
It is impossible to have a rational dialogue with a person about creeds and concepts that he has not acquired through rational thought. Whether one is speaking of God, race or patriotism ( C.R Zafon)
You stretch the truth and disturbingly over-simplify the situation. Back to the library with you!
Some aspects of Israeli democracy are at odds with core American values. Unlike the US, where people are supposed to enjoy equal rights irrespective of race, religion or ethnicity, Israel was explicitly founded as a Jewish state and citizenship is based on the principle of blood kinship. Given this, it is not surprising that its 1.3 million Arabs are treated as second-class citizens, or that a recent Israeli government commission found that Israel behaves in a ‘neglectful and discriminatory’ manner towards them. Its democratic status is also undermined by its refusal to grant the Palestinians a viable state of their own or full political rights. http://www.lrb.co.uk/v28/n06/john-mearsheimer/the-israel-lobby
No, Arab Israelis are third class citizens. Arab Jews within Israel are second class:

I am Chumbawamba.
Perception is 10/10ths of reality; and the "reality" slowly gathering momentum is that Israel is the liability to real peace in the Middle East. That's probably hard for all the AIPAC trolls on this board to deal with.
I feel ya pain, dog; but not that much.

You should all read this excellent Haaretz editorial, The price of flawed policy:
The price of flawed policy Relations with Turkey will probably deteriorate further, and there may even be serious damage on the official level.Haaretz Editorial
When a regular, well-armed, well-trained army goes to war against a "freedom flotilla" of civilian vessels laden with civilians, food and medication, the outcome is foretold - and it doesn't matter whether the confrontation achieved its goal and prevented the flotilla from reaching Gaza. The violent confrontation, whether caused by poor military planning or poor execution, resulted from flawed policy, wars of prestige, and from a profound misunderstanding of the confrontation's meanings and repercussions.
The grave political damage caused by the confrontation is all too clear. Relations with Turkey will probably deteriorate further, and there may even be serious damage on the official level. The proximity talks with the Palestinians, which started lamely and with low expectations, will have trouble proceeding, now that Israel has attacked a ship intended to aid Gazans languishing under a four-year siege. Hamas claimed an outstanding victory without firing a single rocket, Egypt is under redoubled pressure to undermine the siege by opening the Rafah crossing, and it's reasonable to assume Europe and the United States will not be able to let Israel get away with a mere reprimand.
All these developments are little surprise to anyone, and shouldn't have surprised the policy makers in Jerusalem. Nevertheless, it seemed no one could resist the temptation to show the Israel Defense Forces' strength in a place the IDF should not have been in the first place. Because the question was not who would win the confrontation, but who would win more public opinion points. In this test, Benjamin Netanyahu's government failed completely. Israel let its policy of maintaining the siege on Gaza become an existential matter. This policy boomeranged and cost Israel its international legitimacy.
The decision makers' negligence is threatening the security of Israelis, and Israel's global status. Someone must be held responsible for this disgraceful failure. There is no way to convince Israel's citizens and its friends around the world that Israel regrets the confrontation and its results, and is learning from its errors, other than setting up a state inquiry committee to investigate the decision-making process, and to decide who should pay for this dangerous policy.
http://www.france24.com/en/20100601-mubarak-orders-rafah-border-crossing...
Finally that coward Mubarak is opening the border!
If he had done it before, it wouldn't be necessary to confront the cold-blood murderes of the Iraeli navy to try to make humanitarian aid reach Gaza.
Mubarak is responsible for the deaths of hundreds of Palestinian children due to the closed border.
Who is flagging this as junk? This kind of cold splash of truth is what Israelis need to maintain a prosperous country. If you are for peace in Israel, and really care about Israelis (not the hawkish jackbooted government goons in power) this article should ring with an air of truth and importance. I say +1000!
Only fools who fear the truth would junk that editorial. It's a must read.
SELF-HATING JEWS!!
In light of this editorial, it is plausible the Turks and U.S. concocted a trap for Netanyahu. It's no secret that Obama's administration loathes Netanyahu. He's the impediment towards peace.
I was reading that Turkey might escalate and send more flotillas escorted by warplanes and warships.
Then it dawned on me that Turkey is a key member of Nato and Israel isn't.
As an attack on any Nato member is an attack on NATO, the all thing could get out of hand
Let's hope cool heads will prevail

Hey, wannabe Brad Bitt- why dontcha stick to your personal vendetta against GS&Co. and leave the real important news to the pros. I don't come here to read your babble on complex mid-east geopolitics. You simply aren't qualified.
In a world of widespread nuclear weapons all people are equally likely to be vaporized. Doesn't matter where you live, how big your army, how rich, or how advanced. Nor is poverty, large population, or oil any protection.
Unite or die. (From the American Revolution).
I concur with FourWudes excellent comments as well as Doublethink's very important thoughts.
Some points..let's look at the larger picture...
1) There are fewer and fewer people in this country who care about the religious beliefs of others. Most of us know clearly that there are good players and bad players in all religions. I personally have seen some of the more sane comments coming out of Rabbis at times when religious leaders gather for opinion sessions I have happened to catch. At this point Americans have far too many other concerns - such as whether they will die someday in a polluted parking lot of cancer when they are older - the way Washington is driving this country now.
2) When I read or hear that we are sending dime one to another country - nevermind billions - I go ballistic. How can we be sending any other country - except in a deep humanitarian crisis - any money when we are technically fucking bankrupt. It is the height of absurdity to be charging up the Big Credit Card for some jesture, a show. Once we get into aid in the billions to just one country, it reaks of insanity in Washington and Americans ought to be outraged at bad decisions coming out of Washington. Write to your Congressman, and rip him a new one.
3) This Gaza situation is the last thing that this planet needed right now with all the other shit that is hitting the fan. In fact, the very last. Obama did the right thing (screwing up in many other areas though) by offering to take the supplies off of the boats and bring them in. Of course Netanyahu, sensing that the world was not paying enough attention, declined that and opted for the international incident instead. He'll be over lobbying for more funds within a few weeks now. I recall a few years ago that an Arab prince or some such fuck was over here lobbying for some sort of chemical to remain in gasoline, even though it was toxic to water supplies. Yea, well fuck them both.
4) General Patraeus pointed that the Israeli government's increasing frequency of poor decision making is costing American lives. Understatement of the the century ?
5) Once again, the Israelis played into the hands of the Muslim extremists. But most of us know by now this is no accident. Israeli is a country controlled by its military complex. Those at the top, the military tech co owners know that the constant threat is what keeps them wealthy. It is sick. Meanwhile the Arabs have $47 trillion in oil reserves. Take even a tiny portion of that that gets filtered to the terrorists and, well, that's decades and decades of more of this shit. Great, we are spending $700 billion in "Defense" in this country and we can't stop terror attempts that my 10 year old could anticipate (man goes to Pakistan, comes back 6 months later. No one monitors him. What the fuck did he do there ? Man screams to Embassy CIA that his son is a terrorist and he is still not on the no-fly list, etc, etc, etc).
6) Take 25% of the US defense budget and use it to destruct the utility of oil - I mean make it useless ASAP - and that will be the best use of any long term tax payer money. Why the Israeli's are more concerned with jet fighters and selling shit to the Chinese (and in a sick display of what goes around comes around, the Chinese turn around and sell it to the Iranians) is becoming more and more obvious.
7) Bottom line is that we are all so sick of this conflict that we could fucking puke - it is dragging us all down. Look at who is benefiting; Terror groups, Israeli defense contractors, American defense contractors, no one fucking else.
The only thing with which I can find exception is your idea that Arabs are a one monolithic culture. They aren't. The Saudis are more closely aligned with Halliburton and KBR than with Al Qaeda (though they have ties with them as well). It's all one big inbred orgy of defense contractors and megalomaniacs, both here and abroad.
The Arabs are not your enemy, your enemy is right here at home! It hides behind names like "Congressman" and "Vice President" and "Senator" and "Justice" and "Inc.", etc. Stop searching out monsters abroad.
Clean up your own yard before you go complaining about the neighbor's.
I am Chumbawamba.
You're stupid. HAL and KBR operating as one with US institute the Saudis: Saudis represent Arab mores as much as James Baker represents your local PTA.

According to new statistics released by the Pentagon, with Barack Obama as commander in chief, there has been a 23% increase in the number of “Private Security Contractors” working for the Department of Defense in Iraq in the second quarter of 2009 and a 29% increase in Afghanistan, which “correlates to the build up of forces” in the country. In Iraq, the Pentagon attributes the increase to better accounting. But, these numbers relate explicitly to DoD security contractors. Companies like Blackwater and its successor Triple Canopy work on State Department contracts and it is unclear if these contractors are included in the over-all statistics. This means, the number of individual “security” contractors could be quite higher, as could the scope of their expansion.
Overall, contractors (armed and unarmed) now make up approximately 50% of the “total force in Centcom AOR [Area of Responsibility].” This means there are a whopping 242,657 contractors working on these two US wars. These statistics come from two reports just released by Gary J. Motsek, the Assistant Deputy Under Secretary of Defense (Program Support): “Contractor Support of U.S. Operations in USCENTCOM AOR, IRAQ, and Afghanistan and “Operational Contract Support, ‘State of the Union.’”
If you haven't read "The Israel Lobby" (at least this:http://www.lrb.co.uk/v28/n06/john-mearsheimer/the-israel-lobby, and even better the book) and have a deep understanding of the context in Israel and neighbors and history, and you insist on unwavering support for the Israeli government, you are a damn fool! Everyone involved has blood on their hands.
I wish to remind everyone that violence begets violence.
I would say that most of the Levant NEEDS Israel to distract their own citizens from the abject poverty and oppression they live under.
From my, and I'll stress limited, experiences living in Syria, the al-Asad family has set up a 1984 society using perpetual war with Israel to legitimise 'Emergency Law' where the government can spy on its citizens, throw them in jail, etc. Syria has been in a state of Emergency Law since 1973.
If you read any of the Arabic-language newspapers there, every article has a common link: they all mention the word 'SaHiyunia' - Zionism. I kid you not, I once read about an article about a archeological dig and they managed to fit the Zionists in it somehow. It is so scary, it is comical.
You will never hear a balanced opinion on the Arab-Israeli conflict, and you will never hear an argument supporting the Israelis. As much as Israel seems a bunch of fatherless-thugs, they allow demonstrations against the government policy towards Palestinians.
I think that is part of the reason the Arab countries haven't done much to abate the situation. War with Israel is convenient.
War is certainly convenient for Israel as well, especially its military industrial complex, so there goes your (incredibly stupid) theory.
I am Chumbawamba.
Allah Loves the Jews!!!!
1.Israel is a major burden to the US. Everyone knows it. Yet another example of our flawed, phony system that we even have anything to do with them at all.
2. Cobalt Blue is epic. Just got back from St. Tropez where it played by the pool non-stop for a week. Props to whoever put that together. Let's have some more of that...
Am Israel Chi!
And the world condemns Israel....
Fact:
Turkey (as does Brazil) signs agreement with Iran to enrich uranium.
Turkey PM has a close relationship with Hamas.
Iran = Hamas= Hezbollah = Syria = Turkey.
It was well organised by Iran/Turkey/Hamas as a Bait! Iran 1 Israel efes.
There is nothing peaceful about Mythrdom.
Knives, metal clubs, metal chairs, trying to disarm a soldier.
Nikud!
So, Brazil reached the agreement with Iran too. Are we brazilians a bunch of fanatical fundamentalist terrorists?
Do you wanna fight with Brazil, you fuckin' zion-nazi terrorists? We are in for a fight...
OK.
Can add you to the list of anti-semites as well.
This game is getting fun.
well flushed you jew hater out quick!. Do you want a game of poker! Fool.
Do you see the words terrorist in my post next to Brazil. NO.
But while your on the subject -for what purpose to supply Iran with enriched Uranium?
Helps to cut down global warming perhaps!.
Racist anti-semite.
"Racist anti-semite."
Vira o disco, ô vitrola enganchada!
I have two jewish friends here in Brazil who think Israel is just a piece of shit.
And if I was a racist, I should commit suicide, since I'm a descendant of "white" portugueses, black africans and indigenous natives. Maybe you can't understand it because Israel has racist laws against inter-racial marriage, and a jew can't marry an arab...
Go cut someone's lawn... or fix me a Taco Bitch!
Suuuuure.

Iran nuclear plant to start by August: Russian official
http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20100520/wl_mideast_afp/irannuclearpoliticsunrussia_20100520165722
According to Oil and Gas Journal, as of January 2010, Iran has an estimated 137.6 billion barrels of proven oil reserves, or roughly 10 percent of the world's total reserves.
http://www.eia.doe.gov/cabs/Iran/Oil.html
Among the parties with a keen interest in the nuclear standoff between Iran and the UN Security Council are foreign investors. Iran is an energy bonanza (NYT) in their eyes: Its underdeveloped oil and gas fields, the world’s second largest, need outside expertise, capital, and technology.

Chess not Checkers!
ohh fuck thats so scary, what are you gonna do, send those brazilian whores to invade Israel? :-)
Thanks for your heritage! Think before you speak and learn your subject in this case... Arab law also forbids marriage between Jews and Arabs - (Jews, Christian and all relegions are infidels) did you miss that point. SO does the different forms of Christianity forbid marriage between Christianity / Non Christians.
You still are an Anti Semite.
Allah Love the Jews!!!
They have all, All! No... Wait! ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL of the other land around to live on... the one... little slice that the Jews have defended against attack... by multiple other Countries, at once...
Well it seems to me, the Will of Allah... is that the Jews keep what they have plus some... for the effort. God's Will, will be done... says the Camel Jockey’s, if that's true then the Jews are in good standing with Allah.
I offer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Six-Day_War as proof, positive... that Allah is on the Jews side.
I totally forgot about them moving 3 subs off the coast of Iran. You know the hypocrisy here is incredible, one Iran has every right for the full nuclear cycle but since we deem them "terrorists" if they don't keep spilling more and more (can you imagine other nations demanding us to tell them our state secrets) information and even asking them to prove that they aren't building bombs to OUR liking, setting the bar so that they can never reach it even if they did comply. And two, do you think any Western nation or some Eastern would even tolerate nuclear weapons off the coast of their country (even if it's 60 or 100 miles away at best). We almost went to war with the Soviet Union over the Cuba missile crisis and Israel wouldn't even want Iranian anything that close to their borders, but they are supposed to take it in stride. Yea, in this fight if you fight back your in the wrong.
Mark my words on this, 3 things are going to happen at the start of the Iranian conflict. One, the US will launch a massive bombing campaign against all their military and research sites using the new bunker buster bombs that where transported to Diego Garcia (a forward operating base for US bombers). Two, Israel may be used to launch a small nuke at the reactor and the enrichment facility and if their is nuclear fallout it can be blamed on the facilities having nuclear fuel. Three, they are prodding the Americans saying that they will launch on them if you don't attack soon and decisively.
You don't move almost 4 carrier groups into the gulf and position weapons at Diego Garcia and move 3 subs with nuclear munitions to bluff or scare. The logistics is a nightmare and it moves your assets away from areas. This summer is going to be the time they will attack Iran.

For a blog that attacks just about EVERY SINGLE part of the American governing and financial institutions (some accurate and for good reason), I am taken aback by the lavish support for the governing institutions of Israel!
This continues to be one big surprise.....
Fight club? Anti-establishment? Really?
I guess it depends which one...
the irony is that you know very little about the history of israel mr durden, and yet you feel fit to place here your opinion about israel on zerohedge, making it appear more and more like a 'general news website' . you should probably not post general news affairs on a website specializing in finance because it makes you look like a vacuous talk show host and reduces the general support and respect you've cultivated with you readers by all the hard work and expertise you you inject into most of your quality articles about finance.
more articles about BP, israel, north korea, and other gibberish that the mass media feels is necessary to distract the sheeple with.
if you do want a little history lesson, germany supplied pre-48 jews and post 48 israelis with more weapons and money than any other country for its first two decades of existence. the fact that germany is an ally of israel is not ironic. germany played THE fundamental support role in the creation of israel as the post war german government was headed by reasonable german citizens who understood that they should help out in carving a new home for the very people whom they murdered and displaced from europe. the fact that germany still supports israel militarily is a testament to an enduring relationship. of course, america may well have played a role in this cooperation as they had conquered germany, but russia also supplied israel with arms early in its existence ( russia early on had perceived israel's socialist character as a sign of potential communist bloc leanings, but they quickly learned they were mistaken and subsequently began supporting the arabs to side against american interest)
