Unfortunately it isn't just Turbo Tax Timmy's dinky winky that's sinking and shrinking. But I love the Seinfeld reference.

And the Golden girl in the background? They are real and they are spectacular.

FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH:

http://news.goldseek.com/GoldSeek/1258049769.php

And here’s what the Chinese allegedly uncovered:

Roughly 15 years ago – during the Clinton Administration [think Robert Rubin, Sir Alan Greenspan and Lawrence Summers] – between 1.3 and 1.5 million 400 oz tungsten blanks were allegedly manufactured by a very high-end, sophisticated refiner in the USA [more than 16 Thousand metric tonnes].  Subsequently, 640,000 of these tungsten blanks received their gold plating and WERE shipped to Ft. Knox and remain there to this day.  I know folks who have copies of the original shipping docs with dates and exact weights of “tungsten” bars shipped to Ft. Knox .

Watch out for this post -- appears to be an attempt to spread misleading information about spurious gold -- no doubt an attempt to discredit gold!

Actually just the opposite - think about it.

If a significant amount of Gold Ingots were found to be counterfeit, that would significantly REDUCE the amount of real Gold thought to be "available". Less of something, means an increased value of said thing.

It's not an attempt to discredit gold. It's an attempt to discredit our leaders who all seem to want to run a fraudulant ponzi scheming economic system so it's easy to discredit them. Which is really easy.

There is no reason that suspect "gold" bars could not be fairly quickly checked by "pinging" with suitable instrumentation.  Gold is soft; tungsten is hard.  The speed of sound in gold is around 3240 meters/sec.  The speed of sound in tungsten is reported as 5180 meters/sec.  A "gold" bar with a tungsten interior would be easy to detect in an ocilloscope trace of a ping reflection would show discontinuity at the tungsten gold interface.  Modern equipment images cracks in manufactured parts by this method (although not preferred for this particular application).

Something like gold "paint" would quickly show up.

It is true enough that some folks in government are so ignorant that they might think that such an act could be some sort of a solution for a perceived problem.  But it could be pretty easily spotted by any government interested in checking their gold.

Gold has different resistance values than tungsten all you have to do is check it's electrical conduction properties to see if its gold or tungsten.

How True.

Speaking of Timmay, I know this is off-topic, but what would an involuntary IMF intervention in the US look like?

If present trends continue, it could be either that or DEFAULT.

Would anyone like to tackle this topic? (especially Chumbawamba or CB).

This is not a cartoon... this is Timmay's recurring nightmare...

You see all of Timmay's friends are Wall Street banksters...

All of Timmay's relatives... i.e. Aunt Lloyd and Uncle Jamie are Wall Street banksters... and now wildly successful op-ed columnists in prestigious news publications...

And they all have BSD that make lil' Timmay feel very, very inadequate.

So Timmay has the recurring nightmare of being at the pool with his pants down and a 6 year old boys penis while all the trophy wives laugh at Timmay and all their BSD husbands look on...

Then women execs from Wall Street show up and they have BSD too...

Then Timmay realizes he is at the pool of the Larchmont house he can't sell...

And then Timmay wakes up in a cold sweat at 4am screaming "Pool Dick!"

This cartoon was disturbing on so many levels.

Firstly, I was under the impression that the earlier call for restraint in language, specifically, the use of threats of physical violence, was an attempt to raise the level of discourse and discourage the emotional noise on Zero Hedge and not just a move to avoid prosecution.  While one man’s noise may be another man’s signal, I am at a loss to understand what substantive message this cartoon is trying to communicate.

On one hand, the other currencies and even Gold are portrayed as women.  The only man in the picture, besides possibly the obviously subservient bartender, is Timmy.  Does that mean that regardless of his ‘diminished stature’ the other female characters are still his bitches?  What is the rhetorical purpose of their passive-aggressive behavior?

Is the implication supposed to be that if the other currencies went into the pool of Quantitative Easing their ‘statures’ would not also be diminished?  Are they, as women, immune to QE?  But this would only be because, as women, they have no ‘statures’ to be diminished.  Where is the competition for Timmy?  Is there some off-scene BRIC big man?

On the other hand, Timmy’s hips are wider and shoulders are narrower than any of the women [and his breasts are at least as large].  Are we perhaps supposed to conclude that there are no men [or currencies] of real prowess and that even Timmy is actually a female character who was, until revealed, only maintaining the pretense of masculinity.  Why then is Gold toasting the naked North end of the South facing Timmy?  Why are these women laughing?  They have lost even the illusion of the existence of a credible masculine player at the party.

Who are the hoi-polloi in the distance?  They are on the other side of the bar and seem so far away as to be irrelevant.  Why are they depicted at all?  What is the purpose of the hedge?

Do not misunderstand me; I have no interest in Timmy either as a man or a Treasury Secretary.  He is at best a mere tool, or even less - a cog in the machine.  To personalize him here serves only to aggrandize him.  He is unworthy of such elevation.  No other country/currency is anthropomorphized as a recognizable actual person; why not?

In short it seems to me to be a personalized cheap shot with the flimsiest of rationales for inclusion on this site.  I believe it diminishes the stature of Zero Hedge as a forum for serious discourse and adds very little humour.

There are some really angry posters here. They have a right to be angry. I cannot know all the particulars of the ZH project, but it would be reasonable to provide threads like these as a place to let off steam so that the other threads can contain the kinds of discourse you desire.

Burlesque, paradody, satire, all have proven to be powerful tools for social change. Burlesque theater used to be primarily sketch humor in the late 1800's, performed by women in nude skinsuit costumes. They mocked sexual mores, the gender norms of the time, and officials. It was intelligent working class theater.

As word got out, the upper classes started slumming because it was good entertainment and spoke the truth. How else could it be so damn funny? The problem is that some of the judges, cops, and politicians who were being mocked in these plays would attend the shows. As a result they were raided. Ironically, the more lewd the shows, the less likely they would get raided. The more sketch humor, the more likely. Striptease/erotic dancing as you know it today is a degenerative derrivative of old fashioned burlesque which used to be a site for cultural critique. This place is doing cultural critique as well.

The Semiotics underpinning this particular cartoon, may or may not work well. To each their own. To discourage "emotional noise" is a mistake. Charts, logic, and art all need to be employed to help people understand what is at stake. Some folks who can't interpret a chart may start asking the right questions by viewing a cartoon. Some like music, like say Zeroradio. Others hashing it out in chat. All the senses that can be engaged online are being engaged (no smell, but we know it stinks).

This is war. Burlesque is another tool. Please don't ask them to censor this too. You may not be feeling this one, but you may laugh your butt off at the next one and feel solidarity and solice with those who understand how dire our situation is.

Peace.

You bring up a number of interesting points, I'll try to tackle them since your critique suggests you have an interest in digging deeper into the content than most of the reviewers.

Basically yes, the other currencies are 'bitches' as you label them. Last year we got to see what happened to the other currencies in stride when the yen carry trade began to unwind of the back of a financial implosion. The dollar still remains the worlds reserve currency and as such is represented in such a fashion (also TG is a male). To answer the question why the other currencies aren't represented by their representative CB's? Truthfully, it doesn't matter, they aren't the next new carry trade, the dollar is.

They remain passive aggressive because they aren't the reserve currency. Read deeper.

Certainly their stature would be diminished but not nearly as much as Geithners, afterall the US prints ~40% of the worlds currency. He could easily have been depicted as an 800lb gorilla, but why does it matter what the visual imagery as long as the message is clear? Conveying TG as anything other than TG would add an extra layer and detract from the clarity of message, namely a dip on the QE pool will devalue your currency and leave you 'exposed' to attacks.

Where is the competition for Timmy? You tell me, name another country that could serve as worlds reserve currency and produce a GDP commensurate to the US's? BRIC's, are you serious? What is happening to Tim is happening because Tim allowed it to happen to himself, if you've ever been swimming it would be fairly obvious if at some point your bathing suit came off. Similarly you can't print, support markets and marketplace transparency, it's like getting out of the pool naked, other countries will notice this.

The hoi-polloi are at 'the gold bar' figuratively they represent people who care not for entrapments of the currency game. They aren't making fun of Tim because they don't care to, they aren't flirting with other currencies because they're interested in preserving their value and worth not. The hedge is just that, loonies are backed with resources (somewhat hedged currency against dollar devaluation) hence the Canadian girl on the other side of the hedge.

Why are other currencies not rendered as recongnizable people? Why would it matter? The point isn't about them the point is about Tim's devaluation and subsequent exposure. Why does it matter if the Eurobabe were represented by Trichet, it would only confuse, detract or dilute the message.
