A Totally Unmanipulated Melt Up

Tyler Durden's picture

In what can hardly be described as a travesty of efficient markets, the Dow closed at the perfectly normal level of 10,997.35 after the complete lack of a concerted effort by the primary dealers to reroute recently acquired capital into stocks that are now trading at triple digit forward multiples. Fear not - the resilient U.S. consumer who now realizes that no contracts have to be honored (courtesy of a unrepentant skeleton) and instead all money must be rerouted into shares of Pets.com, will make sure that the market is and always will be a leading indicator to a 400% debt/GDP economy. Also ignore that the Dow hit 11100.98 as if possessed by a mysterious GETCO DMMon, that was also perfectly explainable. After all, over the weekend, as Morgan Stanley whisper expectations indicate, Greece will default. That, together with an imminent meteor impact that is set to wipe out humanity and leave SkyNet in charge of trading stocks, should be sufficient for newly crowned Supreme Justice 80286 to make offers of any securities not only illegal but punishable by lethal and prompt use of Norton Antivirus software and/or H2O.

And a special message to all those who made this impossible market possible:

How long can the perception of Greece's situation be manipulated to keep the dollar weak? Im new to this, but if I was head of EvilCorp I would use that pendulum to swing the dollar weak, (to drive up PPT in US markets) on stability of Greece bailout then yank the carpet on them and then just crush the market the other way to my collected shorts. Is this plausible/crazy/stupid?

I've been lurking here for 4 months now, reading EVERYTHING, absorbing and using this site as a locus for understanding.  Its the complexity of FOREX>BOND> EQUITIES >SOVEREIGN FRACTIONAL BANKING relationships I am trying to get a grasp of. I started my finance education on bottom to top approach but then realized the true power moves are made in altering the perceptions of VALUE and playing the EGO not the market.  Is there other reading that can help me understand how the above financial instruments are used on a global scale.

Also, what resources are available that give you concrete information and facts as to who is buying and selling markets and general information as to commodities and industrial info?  I dont need a 18k a year feed, just simple clear information. Thanks to any that can help.

G: What is your wish?

M: I would like you to build me a bridge so that I can drive to Maui and back whenever I want. I love the beach in Maui.

G: You know that's impossible young man. you can't stretch a bridge across the pacific.

M: Okay then. I want to understand the stock/bond/fx markets and all.

G: How many lanes do you want on that bridge?

Ha! I walked into that one.  I think it would help with my understanding if I had a better idea of how value moves through the world economy, through major instruments, and the magnitudes of effect these instruments enact relative to one another.

"Always leave yourself outs."  ~Rounders

I am short, but I started in a small way.  Averaging down.  I am not predicting the end of the world, nor do I need it to wreap some decent gains.  A simple move the the 25MA of the major indicies/ETF's will suffice.  SOONER RATHER THAN LATER WOULD BE NICE THOUGH!!!

It's a crazy world we live in.  ABK gets seized.  Then they post a profit and the stock jumps +80% in 1 day?!?  WTF?!?  Seems like either they didn't need to be seized or the books are cooked.  1 or the other.

Greece has been "bailed out" so many times the last few weeks, I lost count.  Does this mean they are not going on their fundraising tour of 5-star hotels with hot tub suites in China?  AIG execs would be happy to take their place...

I was laughing to the point of tears when I read the *bleep* everyone post.  I empathize with the frustrations.
