The Truth About Your Politician: An Interactive Guide

Tyler Durden's picture

Curious to know just how liberal or conservative your representative politician (either in the Senate or the House) has been in the past year? Courtesy of the National Journal, now you can. In the following list, members and senators are assigned separate
scores for their roll-call votes on key economic, social, and
foreign-policy issues during 2010. The senators are rated in each of the
three issue categories on both liberal and conservative scales, with
the scores on each scale given as percentiles. An economic score of 87
on the conservative scale, for example, means that the senator or member
was more conservative than 87 percent of his or her colleagues on the
key votes in that issue area during 2010. Composite scores are
calculated based on the issue-based scores. Members with the same
composite scores are tied in rank.

A Minority Report-type interactive wall awaits just after the jump.

I have come across a passage in a novel I’m reading that strikes me as profound when applied to the world we are living in today. More specifically, the misguided government I find myself living under seems to have egregiously strayed from this simple principle. I beg those currently in power to take heed. Moreover, I implore my fellow constituents to wake up and deny those power who so flagrantly abuse the following ethic:

The problem with the world, there is too much Thought Protectionism. I have no protectionism of my own thought processes to a point where there are no subjects I will personally refuse to talk about. This is the major problem with the mainstream media. They shut out conversations on 9/11, the Federal Reserve, the police state and TSA, and every other special interest and ideology they wish to protect.

The Internet is great at breaking down this barrier in that you can't hold a gun to another bloggers head.

Be serious...there's a whole lot of shit we CAN'T talk about...even on the "free" internet.

Take race...it's still taboo to talk of it here.  And it's as big a lie as the rest of the shit they spew.

I don't submit to "can't".

Charlie Sheen breaks the ice on the taboo mention of the "Jew", Zionist, Israel topic. The ADL are working overtime these days with Sheen, Beck, Jones, and others.

"Antisemitism", It's a mind trick, the Jews always use it to make themselves look innocent.

That's because a large percentage of the U.S. population doesn't care about those subjects...the Lindsay Lohan story gets more viewers than a story on the inside job of the economic crisis.  Sad but true...

Thought Protectionism.

More like thought compliance.

Good point Michael... although I often disagree with how you make your arguments you are certainly not afraid to go where common sense tells everyone else not to go.

I have thought about this issue tremendously. I have personally decided to join you off grid.

Be forewarned... I am going ream you a new one when you go too far.(Which will be often).

But I do love your sense of passion.

Who gets to define what Liberal is and what Conservative is? Who even knows what those word mean anymore?

To me, it would be better to label politicians pro-constitution or anti-constitution. That's much easier to define because the Supreme Court has ruled on virtually every constitutional question there is.

The dividing line is the degree to which they desire an expansion in the size and scope of the government.  A liberal desires for there to be more, a conservative less...  towards the conservative pole, you get into the libertarian realm...  and once you hit the pole, you're in anarchy land.  (although some people here have said "governmentless", which is apparently less inciteful to their ideals).

This is the definition...  the problem is that everyone we have a chance to elect is a liberal...

The thing is, this ranks relative performance. So if everyone but you votes to raise taxes 100% and you vote to raise taxes 99%, suddenly you're a bright red, conservative maverick and outlier.

Don't you just love how TV network executives decided all together one day that liberal/Democrat would now be represented by the non-red color?  Even this chart cleverly has an up/down orientation instead of a left/right one.

It would be nice to see these clowns spread to a zero added aggregate government benchmark as determined by their votes.

They use to have a saying...fool me once...shame on you....you can't get fooled again. (yes I wrote that wrong on purpose)

The sad thing is, after being fooled once, you're out, due to term limits.

We all love rookie Qb's, and rookie pitchers, so much they must win MVP all the time! That's why we'll introduce term limits, because people are so much on point the first time around this shitshow called CONgress.

Term limits makes it easier to ROLL congress through lobbyists, and if you actually find a decent congressman, they're out along with the bad.

I even hate it for presidents.  Where would we have been if FDR was out of office in 1940.  Speaking german perhaps.

Term limits = sophistry

You don't get better politicians by pulling the handle on the slots more times.  If you want better politicans, listen.  We still aren't listening as a body politic, otherwise we wouldn't be voting for the likes of Obama, Bachman, Walker, Christie, only to find out that the bs they SAID they would do, is exactly what they will do + more.  People of wisconsin should of seen the fascism coming.  I saw it.  I'm in Arizona, there's no excuse for putting such a fucktard in office when it was plain as day he was a fascist from the get go. But somehow nobody saw it? Yeah term limits somehow change that.  Nope.

(plus with bush, no way he would of gotten elected in 08, and he deserved to go down in defeat) It would have meant something historically, but now we don't have that, because America never got a chance to vote this guy down after they finally had learned how crappy he was.  We missed as a country a great learning and finalizing opportunity.  But that's a much smaller concern than the other reasons.

If you want a better congress, put forth better candidates, and LEARN HOW to filter how the crappy ones.

Term limits don't do anything regarding this.  Another con.  Another piece of sophistry to distract us from what is real.

As if the people judging left-right actually know it per this chart.  Here's a hint, the fascist obamacare is not 'liberal', it's FASCIST.  How many other laws have been passed that were said to be 'liberal' or 'conservative', and are really anything but? Well on that chart, since they don't know what the laws really are, how can you take anything out of this? You can't.

The democrats aren't liberal, the republicans aren't conservative.  They're all fucktards employing fascism, and sometimes they employ fascism using what would normally considered to be socialist mechanisms.  (but it's still fascism...because the benefits flow where and are done why? Business over people.).

Term limits are a sugar pill called the cure of cancer.  Instead of helping, it's more likely to give them diabetes (hurting).  Term limits are ANTI-AMERICAN.  (funny how so many people consider limiting ones freedom.....freedom)

"Left" and "right"?  According to this thing, Ron Paul is a centrist.  He is NOT a centrist, he is a conservative libertarian.  Comparing left and right is worthless.  In order to examine where someone really stands, you MUST make a two dimensional plot with economics on one axis and social issues on the other.

This has been done here: http://www.politicalcompass.org/

It would be interesting to see these politicians plotted with this system.  It is much easier to tell good from evil.  You will find that the "good" side is largely DEPOPULATED.  All these fucks are on the same side, and as such are against you and me.

This is how you rid congress of people being there solely to seek pecuniary gain completely contrary to the interests of the represented...  Treat it like jury duty and move on...  you have a duty to your state to ensure its affairs are maintained...  we could elect a panel (keeping the analogy of jury duty, these people would be lawyers) with pre-emtory challenges...  they could basically strike the most downsy of the lot (20%?) and everyone else gets to manage our affairs.

I'm thinking though, the people should only be picked from people who have produced and/or paid taxes...  people of real middle class status...  the leaches at the top and bottom can eat it.  [of course, this would probably have to be settled by armed conflict beforehand given the predominant classes of the country would not go quietly into the night...  which would probably defeat the entire purpose of the exercise...]

This list is bull crap. Found this on another site:

"So, the confusion arises in inappropriately labeling those rated as either liberal or conservative. If the Vote Rating merely measures how often representatives go along with the votes of their political parties, then the Vote Ratings are really only a measure of a representative's submission to political parties, and not how well they stand for liberal or conservative principles. As such, those rated should be referred to more accurately as either Democrat or Republican, and not liberal or conservative. It's disappointing to learn that The Vote Ratings are clearly a measure of conformity to political parties rather than principles."
