Typical Options Expiration Maniacal Trading
Whoa! What a day, where "Risk On" and "Risk Off" trades are being gamed on 5-min. charts from all the "Algo/Igor/Robo" quant traders. Insane volatility as these machines flee back and forth from one group to another, depending upon what happens to be "working" at the moment.
With the huge momentum building for the longs, the first thing these chumps were buying was CSCO.
But after the first 15-minutes, there was no follow through, so then they started dryhumping AMR, as the airlines have been on a tear lately.
Of course, other NDX HeatMappers were also being chased, like JNPR, EBAY and other assorted stocks being eyeballed by the Investor's Business Daily momentum chasers look at at "stocks breaking out of sound bases".
Then things got really crazy as pretty much anything and everything was dumped when AIG, FNM, FRE, etc. started going wild on the "Biggest % Gainers" chart.
But after that last minute orgy, the market stalled out, and all of a sudden it was time to sell anything and everything commodity-related (GDX, XLE, OIH, XLB, etc.) in a huge panic selling wave which sent the herd reeling.
But then there was another infamous "Nipple Bottom" on the 5-min. chart, so everything that was sold in the last hour was suddenly bought back with a vengeance.
The best way to describe today's action:
Quick, hurry up and buy CSCO!!!
Oh, wait, its selling off!! Bail!!!, buy AMR instead!!!
Opps, the Single Digit Midgets are taking off! Quick sell everything and buy those!!
Whoa! What happened? Is this a potential reversal day? SELL, SELL, SELL!!!
Oh, wait, that was a fake out. The Euro is rallying back up off the lows. Quick!! Buy some commodity plays!!
Oh wow, look at STI and Citibank!!! Making new highs. Let's buy those breakouts!!
What's going on in the after-hours??? Let's find out what's gapping up on earnings and buy it!!!
Anyway, did everybody make money daytrading today??

I only invest in Chinese solars for LT, but at a buck & change, might buy 5,000 shares of ESLR and sit on them. They have string ribbon technology and could be a key player in the future.

Do folks feel better about not making money themselves when they surmise that "daytraders" don't' bank on 5-min .5 / 1 R/S gyrations? "Daytraders" are unemployed lawyers named steve, those who are actual "pros" bank on each 1.25 wide-range ES bar irrespective of "time". Quiet days like today are light fare til 2:14 when the big boyz come out to play. 1/3/5 min ES scalps for .75 / 1.25 is 'daytrading' ... playing point for point on GS n GOOG n seeing what happens is retail fare. Don't hold shit inter-day, trade long intra-day w/ bias n keep building put protection before the VIX plots a multi-session island reversal for 28% and be gone, for good. If folks only had 1/10 of the zeal they have for gold for risk mgmt ... They might still have a chance at retirement this time next year. Carpe VIX, before it be too late ... 2 pts down n 102 up, hmmm, tough trade.
