UN Security Council Condemns Cheonan Sinking, An Act North Korea Had Stated Would Be Considered An Act Of War

Tyler Durden's picture

On June 15, North Korea threatened military action Tuesday in response to any UN
censure over the sinking of a South Korean warship. As AFP then reported, "We don't want the Security Council to take measures provoking us,"
Pyongyang's ambassador to the United Nations, Sin Son Ho, told reporters
in a rare press conference here by North Korea. If the 15-member
UN Security Council takes action against Pyongyang "follow-up measures
will be carried out by our military forces...I (will) lose my job," he
warned. It appears the UN's Security Council has decide to call North Korea's bluff. The AP reports that "The United States has introduced a draft statement in the U.N. Security
Council that would condemn the deadly sinking of a South Korean warship
and express "deep concern" at the finding of an international
investigation that blamed North Korea for torpedoing the vessel." It was however, unclear, if according to the draft statement would directly place the blame on North Korea, or if the condemnation would be targeted at nobody in particular, leading to a major political victory for the communist country.

From the AP:

The United States has introduced a draft statement in the U.N. Security Council that would condemn the deadly sinking of a South Korean warship and express "deep concern" at the finding of an international investigation that blamed North Korea for torpedoing the vessel.

However, the draft statement, obtained by The Associated Press, does not directly condemn or blame North Korea for the March 26 attack which killed 46 South Korean sailors.

U.S. Ambassador Susan Rice told reporters the statement was agreed to by the five permanent council members — the U.S., Russia, China, Britain and France — as well as Japan and South Korea.

She presented the text to the rest of the 15-member council late Thursday and expressed hope for speedy agreement.

Right.  NKorea has been the kid throwing the tantrum in the mall for years.  This will result in nothing.  "Oh noes, not a sternly worded letter from the UN!"  Oprah doing a show condemning NKorea would have more of an effect.

All cry, no action? Does that mean they didn't sink the vessel in the first place? Or, did they?

It was probably an accident.  Maybe the dear leader was porking a young one and slipped on the torpedo launcher.

If they condemn NK again they will declare it a "double dog act of war."

Accident my ass crack... Try US black ops...

Baengnyeong Island close to the sinking has a US naval installation and Navy Seals stationed there...

Along with the USN  Salvor capable of seabed installations of electronically activated anti vessel mines...

How convenient...

I kind of think he's wanted to be working with Westerners but has mostly only found love from China. If he does instigate war, he would be hired, not fired. Getting fired happens after you don't follow through properly.

North Korea isn't going to do anything but make their losing soccer team work in the coal mines as slaves.  This idiot leader they have is all mouth and no bark.  If he was such a big man, he would stand up and say "Yea, I sunk that f*cker, whatcha gonna do about it!!"   But he cowers like the weasle he has always been, hiding behind his son and the unfed army he has.  This guy is nothing, and I am glad they are calling his bluff, because that is all it is every time he opens his mouth.

All mouth? You're claiming he just sank an enemy ship. Then, you do a 180 and say he ain't gonna do anything?

You're as brainwashed as any NK who believes what your leaders told you to believe. How the heck do you know who sank what vessel? Just sit back and keep listening to the guy who lies to you every day.

The tragedy is 46 people died & the United Nations will once again inhibit truth through 'word-smithing'  - I think this statement needs to have an amendment which indicates that the the Portuguese Soccer Team will visit Pyongjang once a month to play the North Korean national soccer team on an internationally televised, commercial-free event called 'One Reason Why North Korea SUCKS! - once the perpetrators are identified & transported to Seoul to face prosecution the soccer matches will end & Cristiano Ronaldo will pose in matching Speedos with Kim Jong Il.....

UN means nothing.  NK will just give us the finger as normal.

Maybe when Kim "mentally" Il Jong gets his boy in as the new Great Dear Leader, maybe we can work through this.

3 generations in a row that would be.  In the old days they called that a Monarchy.

Is it not funny that the Israeli and South Korean submarine forces are wholly German-made? Even funnier is that the torpedo that sank the Cheoan was made in Germany.

Logically, North Korea has been sneakely buying subs from those teutonic manic exporters.

I love the smell of a false flag in the morning, specially when it helps to overthrow an uncooperative Japanese gov and secure a base in Okinawa.

The proposed joint military exercise w/ SK in the Yellow Sea is just a ploy to pressure China into falling into lines. It'll be fun to watch how this thing plays out.

You ever been around a  military base on a holiday weekend?  They all take 4 day weekends now, every holiday.  When I was in the military, you only got a 4-day weekend with a Presidential approval, and that was never, now they take them like clockwork.  The bases are so deserted, if one country attacked a major base on a holiday weekend, it would be over before it started.  Hospitals on skeleton crews. Soldiers in the bottle.

More like a political victory for a country going communist.

One cool afternoon, the US and SK were having trials at sea. The US was to show SK how it could fire a very advanced  weapon at a rusted empty hulled SK ship 25 miles from the observation area. The US fired a torpedo that had electronic controls which took over the operation of the torpedo once it was 8 miles from the sub. While the SK crew had their Nikon cameras in one hand, for pictures of the event, and their dicks in the other hand for comfort, the ass end of their ship disappeared.

The investigation assigns blame to North Korea.

The statement by the security council does not assign blame to North Korea.

Sounds like perfect logic to me.....
