Just out from Reuters:

  • OSLO EXPLOSION BLOWS OUT MOST WINDOWS OF GOVERNMENT BUILDING HOUSING PRIME MINISTER'S OFFICE-REUTERS WITNESS
  • Several people injured in explosion at Norwegian Government building in central Oslo

More from Reuters:

A huge explosion damaged government buildings in central Oslo on Friday including Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg's office, injuring several people, a Reuters witness said.

The blast blew out most windows on the 17-storey building housing Stoltenberg's office, as well as nearby ministries including the oil ministry, which was on fire.

Reuters correspondent Walter Gibbs said he counted at least eight injured people. The cause of the blast was unknown but the tangled wreckage of a car was outside one building. Police and fire officials declined comment on the cause.

Update from Sky News:

Norwegian police have said that an explosion in Oslo this afternoon was a bomb which has caused "deaths and injuries".

Police said there were "one or several powerful explosions in the government building in Oslo."

They have told people in the Norwegian capital to stay away from the city centre and limit the use of mobile phones.

The building housed the offices of the Prime Minister, who was not thought to have been in his office at the time, and was reported to be safe.

The explosion was also thought to be near Norway's biggest tabloid newspaper.

Norwegian police have reported there were 'deaths and injuries'

Journalist Asgeir Ueland said that Oslo is a popular destination for people from other parts of Norway.

He said the streets were crowded: "It happened when people were packing up for the weekend and leaving their offices.

"There were lots of people with blood on their faces and severe cuts."

Craig Barnes is in Oslo and said that he is shocked at what has happened.

"It is a very nice, safe place to live.

"Norwegians are very friendly and I think everyone gets on.

"I think this is going to change a lot of views now. There will be questions regarding safety."

Nearby offices in the Norwegian capital have been evacuated.

Large amounts of glass and metal have been seen in the street

There has been a major explosion in downtown Oslo. Windows are broken in VG-built and government officials in Oslo.

All we know is that there is a kind of explosion. We are on the way out there, are the short and hasty message Aftenposten.no get the police in Oslo for the call just after half past four.

Several injured

Both windows in the government quarter and VG building is blown out, according to Aftenposten reports on site. She looks more damaged.

A huge røyksy rose several hundred feet in the air. Large parts of Oslo heard a huge explosion which led to Darren Hayes literally shook when the explosion happened at five at half four in the afternoon.

Entire facades blow out

As a reminder, as BBC reported a year ago, three people were arrested in a "bomb plot"

Norway 'al-Qaeda' bomb plot: Three arrested in Oslo

Three people have been arrested in Norway on suspicion of preparing terrorist attacks.

Unnamed Norwegian and US officials told the Associated Press
that the men were members of al-Qaeda and had been under surveillance
for a year.

They said it was not clear whether the men had selected a target, but they were attempting to make peroxide bombs.

The BBC's security correspondent says Norway may have been targeted because it has troops in Afghanistan.

"The Norwegian Police Security Service (PST) has today, July
8, 2010, arrested three people suspected of preparing acts of terror,"
the PST said in a statement on its website.

Prosecutors say the Norwegian case is linked to foiled bomb plots in New York and the English city of Manchester.

Twin plots

On Wednesday, US prosecutors charged five men in New York over
a plot to bomb the underground system. The plot was foiled in
September.

The New York plot also involved peroxide bombs, prosecutors said. One man, Najibullah Zazi, has already pleaded guilty.

"The charges reveal that the plot... was directed by senior
al-Qaeda leadership in Pakistan," the US Department of Justice said in a
statement.

One of those charged in New York is Abid Naseer, 24, born in
Pakistan and arrested in the north-east of England on Wednesday. The US
is now seeking his extradition.

Mr Naseer was remanded in custody by a court in the UK on Wednesday night.

The former construction site worker is suspected of being the
ringleader of a plot, thwarted in April 2009, to bomb targets in
Manchester city centre

A bid to put him on trial in Britain was aborted last year
and his deportation was blocked when a judge said Mr Naseer could face
torture in Pakistan

The more tolerant and accommodating the Scandanavians are to muslims, the more the islamic terrorists intimidate and take advantage of them. When will they learn?

Oslo has a radical muslim enclave that has become a "no-go" area for Norwegians. It's a well known muslim district run by Imams and Sharia law and they don't want non-muslim Norwegians to enter. Non-muslims who venture in there are subjected to islamic supremacist conditions and treated accordingly, including beatings and rapes. It has become a hot immigration destination for ME muslims.

PS: The Norwegian police will not even go in there to help you. Norwegians are supposed to tolerate it and know better than to go in there.

Update:

Official sources are provisionally linking this to a Kurdish terrorist group:

The attack comes days after Norwegian prosecutors filed a terrorism charge against Mullah Krekar, founder of the Kurdish Islamist group Ansar al-Islam, who is accused of threatening a former minister, Erna Solberg, with death.

"Norway will pay a heavy price for my death," he said. "If, for example, Erna Solberg deports me and I die as a result, she will suffer the same fate."

It is not clear whether Friday's attack is related to the threat.

Conversely:

Norway has just backed Abbas' plan for Palestinian sovereignty, so highly unlikely to be the bogey men you're looking for in the MSM at the moment (Libyan etc - I'll leave it up to reader's cynicism to suggest a more... USS Liberty source...):

Abbas, who arrived here on Sunday night on a visit seeking Norwegian support to his proposals, said that he hopes Norway will recognize the state of Palestine on the 1967 lines and continue to give support to the Palestinian people in their endeavor for an independent state.

Contextualisation:

Norway currently has a national week's holiday, so most buildings are on a skeleton staff, and there are much fewer people than normal in the area (including state staff). Current reports stating 3-7 people dead, "10's taken to hospital".

[edit]

Clearest, and best video of scene I've found so far - includes wrecked car up close, however looks like physical impact damage rather than car bomb that caused it:

"most buildings are on a skeleton staff ...... much fewer people than normal in the area"

That would seem to indicate a western intelligence false flag ... "we can't kill too many, in case they catch us out later". Raghead terrorists would go for maximum impact on a busy business day (as in ME and Bali bombings).

Do a damage comparison - people are saying this was a "car"; if you're looking at an amateur made load [i.e. fertilisers / home blended chemistry without professional sourced materials] the extent of the damage would need a larger delivery system. A 200lb car bomb simply won't cause the devastation shown by the videos.  So, logically - you either need a more complex material causing the explosion, or you need a larger bomb. You can't have both.

Then figure on the expertise of the IRA, and do a comparison to Docklands vrs Bali [actual terrorist groups]:

At about 19:01 on 9 February, the IRA detonated a half-tonne bomb containing an ammonium nitrate fertiliser and fuel-oil mixture,[1] in a small lorry about 80 yards from South Quay Station on the Docklands Light Railway (in the Canary Wharf area of London), directly under the point where the tracks cross Marsh Wall. Due to a telephoned warning, nearby buildings and the road were evacuated. However, two men working in the newsagents shop directly opposite the explosion, Inan Bashir and John Jeffries, had not been evacuated in time and were killed. 39 people required hospital treatment due to blast injuries and falling glass.

Bali bomb (for comparison) had a mix of amateur chemicals and professional elements:

The Mitsubishi L300 van bomb was initially thought to have consisted of C4, a military grade plastic explosive which is difficult to obtain. However, investigators discovered the bomb was made from potassium chlorate, aluminum powder, and sulfur. For the Sari club bomb with the L300 van, the terrorists assembled 12 plastic filing cabinets filled with explosives. The cabinets, each containing a potassium chlorate, aluminum powder, sulfur mixture with a TNT booster, was connected by 150 metres (490 ft) of PETN-filled detonating cord. Ninety-four RDX electric detonators were fitted to the TNT. The total weight of the van bomb was 2,250 pounds (1,020 kg).[10] The large, high-temperature blast damage produced by this mixture was similar to a thermobaric explosive,[11] although the bombers may not have known this.[12]

Disclaimer: this is all hypothetically speaking on a comparison to publicly available videos. However, I think that unless someone can find a small / medium sized lorry, fast, then it is less likely that this was a purely amateur hour effort.

Interesting to see how this spreads online as it happens - if you can get enough speed up, you tend to catch out all the little "Osama was armed...Osama was hiding behind wife" edits that are woven in.

In this case, two bombs were initially reported by two sources, then retracted.

UPDATES:

There is now reports of shooting at the Norwegian ruling party's summercamp for young menbers of "Arbeiderpartiet." One person - dressed as a policeman -is supposed to have started shooting around him with a handgun. This is still an ongoing situation.

This might point to a targeted attact against the Norwegian ruling party and its government.

The Oslo police have just hald their first press conference where they urge people to get out of town, and avoid any crowds or crowded places.

This means that they do not know if there are any more bombs waiting to go off, or not.

One area around the Norwegian TV channel TV2 is currently sealed off, and is beeing searched for more explosives.

The area around the government building is still beeing searched for dead and wounded, in addition to putting out minor fires.

If you have family or relatives in Oslo, and wonder if they are safe, you may call the national information service at: (-47) 815 20 800.
