"When you see that trading is done, not by consent, but by compulsion—when you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing—when you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors— when you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don't protect you against them, but protect them against you—when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice—you may know that your society is DOOMED." - Ayn Rand Atlas Shrugged

DAYM. who was THAT at the beginning?

Equaly as gifted.

"Whenever destroyers appear among men, they start by destroying money, for money is men’s protection and the base of a moral existence. Destroyers seize gold and leave to its owners a counterfeit pile of paper. This kills all objective standards and delivers men into the arbitrary power of an arbitrary setter of values. Gold was an objective value, an equivalent of wealth produced. Paper is a mortgage on wealth that does not exist, backed by a gun aimed at those who are expected to produce it. Paper is a check drawn by legal looters upon an account which is not theirs: upon the virtue of the victims. Watch for the day when it bounces, marked: "Account Overdrawn."

You must have bad juju. Please shower and come back later.

The ZH servers burp every now and then. Wait until to post a comment, then you try to return and see that the entire thread has disappeared. Then you won't ever want to come out of the shower. :>)

Images of Rome burning are popping into my head as I watch.  Does anyone know if Ben plays the fiddle?

OT: Looks like POMO will be about $6.5B today.

Fox-Scully's picture

No he does not play the fiddle, but he is forever washing his hands!

Oh, they'll see it alright.

Reminds me of the olf Jeff Foxworthy routine about bill collectors taking a check.

"Oh, you'll take a check!?  I thought you wanted money!"

BigJim's picture

Well, sorry, I haven't got that much money.

So when she comes to collect, I'm just going to have to pay her in kind.

Bokkenrijder's picture

Hot chick, pity of those tattoos.

She sounds American, yet when it comes to money she's suddenly Taiwanese. Riiiiiight....

At the Minsky Conference last month Paul McCulley said the $2T held by the Chinese is the best deal in history -- even if they get stiffed. They managed their emergence by preventing crippling domestic inflation from 1978 to present. Granted, inflation is turning up now, but the Chinese have pulled off a world-historical transformation. Although true that water, other environmental issues, and Gini coefficient could derail the path to greatness, what a performance!  We forget that China was supreme for many centuries and only subdued by naval gunnery in the 19th C.

Midwest Prepper's picture

Not only will the Taiwanese not get their money, they will get no assistance from a broke US when China makes the move to "repatriate" them to the mainland, Communist country!

They wont get all the way to China, China is digging in the other direction and will soon meet them at the Middle where they will slug it out with their shovels.

Think like the rich.

Steal all remaining dollars via inflation (make sure no one has any left)

Make dollars valuable since nobody has any left...

Looks like the rest of the world has figured out the game. It's only those who have the most to lose that keep the Ponzi going.

You can't lose if you can keep the game going.

BigJim's picture

You can if the game is paying out exponentially less in real terms...

I was speaking from the point of view of those who feel they must keep the Ponzi balls in the air.

Of course it all comes apart. But for those immersed within the insanity, the very fact that they can and have put it off for another day feeds their belief that can put it off indefinitely.

We are talking about a massive addiction here, not sane behaviour. Just because they wear three piece suits doen't make them immune to the insanity. In fact because they wear the suits they have convinced themselves and many others that they are the smartest men in the room.

Boxed Merlot's picture

they have convinced themselves and many others that they are the smartest men in the room...

I'm beginning to think we've gotten to this point because the Masons have neglected their fundamental calling, recruitment.

Perhaps if they had secretly inducted more into their ranks we would have the next generation of smartest controlling the wealth of nations and preventing global havoc.

Just thinkin, but it seems their Creator root belief system, inclusive of Judaism, Christianity and Abraham's seed through Ishmael has left Asia in the ether world. Maybe if they go back to Noah, they can pick up the Asian thread and weave it into the solution.

Couldn't agree more CD. It's another chapter in the "Book of Complacency"...no need to read it all because you know how it ends...

Reminds me of Chuck Prince's statement in 2007:

The Citigroup chief executive told the Financial Times that the party would end at some point but there was so much liquidity it would not be disrupted by the turmoil in the US subprime mortgage market.

He denied that Citigroup, one of the biggest providers of finance to private equity deals, was pulling back.

“When the music stops, in terms of liquidity, things will be complicated. But as long as the music is playing, you've got to get up and dance. We're still dancing,” he said in an interview with the FT in Japan.

Its interesting that we live in a world were the most astute, diligent and accurate synopsis of socio-economic conditions are broadcasted through the medium of cartoon bears, digital animations and anonymous bloggers on the internet. (plus unorthodox pundits such as Gerald Celente, Marc Faber, Jim Rogers, Max Keiser etc.)
