Update: Canada has now sent a warship to Libya as well.
Here we go:
Gates said 400 Marines are aboard amphib Kearsarge (as we predicted yesterday), which is headed towards Libya w/other ships. Notes UN has not authorized use of force.
And to those who think the good Colonel will leave his oil in the hands of the infidels, we suggest you short Brent now.

Naw.... things are out of control, you give them far too much credit.
That being said they will take every advantage of any oppurtunity provided for them to move bonds at an "attractive rate"
Slippery slope? While the level of violence is much higher in Libya, than say, Bahrain. What happens if we drop even one bomb or one US boot touches Libyan soil? Other ME protestors go ape-shit assuming US will back them only to find out that we only do that against "bad leaders."
That's the plan Stan - provocation.
The plan is to get Q-daffy to realize he has -0 chances of survival and go ahead and scuttle the oil fields before the no-fly takes effect and send this bull oil market to the moon.
Too bad Obama doesn't have his civilian defense force ready for this assignment. They could land in "yes we can" matching shirts and organize these Libyans whether they like it or not!
excellent!
Mogadishu all over again. Why on earth did we wait till after K-daffy opened up the armory and gave all the toys out to the good little girls and boys of Lybia?
You are new to this charade, right? To ask that question is to answer it my friend!
Part of me still has hope that someone with an ounce of good sense runs the show in Washington. I know, foolish naïveté on my part. I'm just not quite that jaded yet. Give me a few weeks.
seems like everyone is sending ships...
India, S.Korea, China, Turkey, Syria, Greece, Germany, Britain, Canada, USA...
I understand most are for evacuations, but with the tensions and so many ships in a tight area things could get a bit messy. Who runs into who first???
Throw a friendly fire incident between China and India into the mix...
Who runs into who first???
1st, US to Britain.
2nd, India to Greece.
3rd, S.Greece to N. Greece
4th, N.Germany to Turkey
5th, S.Greece to S.Greece
6th, China to N.US
7th, W.US to Syria
and so on
Blame Canada!
Looks like you got the smarts to put together a tournament bracket -- March Madness, M.E. division!! :>D
Why, those plucky Iranians are riding the briney right NOW!
How'd they get the memo?
Haha :-)
Very good.
Maybe they cracked our Enigma code...?
we are here to help. we want to give you democracy. now then, assume the position. turn around , spread you legs and cheeks and tell us, do you want regular or premium grade.......
don't forget the S.S. Minnow!
That donkey kong thing is hilarious.
You all have it all wrong. We are sending Marines to build a bullett train from Tripoli to the desert.Bullett trains solve everything.Didn`t you listen to the POTUS speech? We will have transparency and the guys will teach them how to create 6,000,000 new jobs for the new green economy. You just don`t listen.
You sir, are a sick puppy, and far too close to the truth. There will be an FBI file on you soon. Welcome to the club;)
Once the Zimbabweans are fully employed, the African "Economic Miracle" will happen almost overnight! Bullett trainz rule! :>D
In other words, the American war hawks are trying to take over the Libyan revolution and use it to reinstate Israeli/Western rule over Libya - this time with considerably more Israeli control than Colonel Gadhafi permitted.
Interestingly, this is exactly what Gadhafi's government said would happen. .Colonel Gadhafi’s Tripoli empire may be disintegrating but the radical wave of the American Empire is still alive and firing. These three paragraphs written earlier tell the story :
From Neocon Hawks Take Flight Over Libya | Antiwar.com |02.26.11
In a distinct echo of the tactics they pursued to encourage U.S. intervention in the Balkans and Iraq, a familiar clutch of neoconservatives appealed Friday for the United States and NATO to "immediately" prepare military action to help bring down the regime of Libyan leader Muammar Gadhafi and end the violence that is believed to have killed well over a thousand people in the past week.
The appeal, which came in the form of a letter signed by 40 policy analysts, including more than a dozen former senior officials who served under President George W. Bush, was organized and released by the Foreign Policy Initiative (FPI), a two-year-old neoconservative group that is widely seen as the successor to the more-famous — or infamous — Project for the New American Century (PNAC).
Warning that Libya stood "on the threshold of a moral and humanitarian catastrophe," the (Libyan) letter, which was addressed to President Barack Obama, called for specific immediate steps involving military action, in addition to the imposition of a number of diplomatic and economic sanctions to bring "an end to the murderous Libyan regime".

The names tell the story:
“Among the letter’s signers were former Bush deputy defense secretary Paul Wolfowitz; Bush’s top global democracy and Middle East adviser; Elliott Abrams; former Bush speechwriters Marc Thiessen and Peter Wehner; Vice President Dick Cheney’s former deputy national security adviser, John Hannah, as well as FPI’s four directors: Weekly Standard editor William Kristol; Brookings Institution fellow Robert Kagan; former Iraq Coalition Provisional Authority spokesman Dan Senor; and former Undersecretary of Defense for Policy and Ambassador to Turkey, Eric Edelman.”
Again, the names tell the story:
The Project for the New American Century that called for war in Iraq has included such proponents as Robert Zoellick of Goldman Sachs, now head of the World Bank…
“In a January 2000 Foreign Affairs essay entitled "Campaign 2000: A Republican Foreign Policy," he (Zoellick) was one of the first of those now associated with Bush's foreign policy to invoke the notion of "evil," writing: "[T]here is still evil in the world—people who hate America and the ideas for which it stands. Today, we face enemies who are hard at work to develop nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons, along with the missiles to deliver them. The United States must remain vigilant and have the strength to defeat its enemies. People driven by enmity or by a need to dominate will not respond to reason or goodwill. They will manipulate civilized rules for uncivilized ends."[25] The same essay praises the "idealism" of Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson. Two years earlier, Zoellick was one of the signatories (who also included Donald Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz, Richard Perle, Elliott Abrams, Zalmay Khalilzad, John R. Bolton, Richard Armitage, and Bill Kristol) of a January 26, 1998 letter to President Bill Clinton drafted by the Project for the New American Century calling for "removing Saddam [Hussein]'s regime from power."[12]

Makes me wonder if Qadaffy feels like he's been thrown under the bus.
The last half of your post is especially interesting. No surprise to see suction cup marks all over this.
Looks like some of GW's persecutors are drive-by junking.
the hofjuden really want Libya's gold badly if even the spineless canucks are sent to get it.
Damn that was funny! They come bearing Molson Golden! (canucks)
well if the dirt poor wanted to get out of libya before, they sure as hell want to get out now.
more murder and mayhem from murder, inc. to suck more oil out of the ground....the usa has no business invading libya to say nothing of no money.
actually "we just acquired 30 billion." that should "smooth out the Wisconsin thingy."

Budget cuts. The Wacky Colonel's paying in gold and Ukrainian hookers (time share only).

When is someone going to stand up and say enough? When?
Might be different - Libya protesters do not want foreign troops at least not now.

they are not going to invade rightaway, they are going to tease Gaddafi to make him do somthing foolish like either kill more of his people or attack the US ships then they will justify their invasion to BRING FREEDOM AND FU..IN DEMOCRACY like in Iraq now
Invasions suggest taking over sovereign territory, and governmental control. This is an intervention. Sheen style. After 4 or 5 tries, you die or turn into Keith Richards.
no show of force for Egypt or any other non-exporter, huh?
y in the world would n e 1 buy oil when it is so easy to steal it?
You know what is fucking sad? Really fucking sad.
That on the idiot box today the Gumps were arguing whether it was a good idea to talk about these military deployments in the media.
Seriously, we had vietnam. We STILL have Iraq (2 mission accomplished speech/line crossing party) and Afghanistan. All three errors showing us WHY we NEED TO TALK ABOUT THESE THINGS...and the dipshits still are saying....'we shouldn't be talking about these things' in regards to Lybia.
WTF
In or Out, good idea or bad, we our it to ourselves to talk about it. Yet many 'pundits' in spite of two continuing wars that we DIDN'T talk honestly about, some people want us to just jump right in. (the fact these idiots are getting paid to NOT think is a shammockery)
There's a popular uprising in Libya against a corrupt dictatorial regime, a regime which uses brutal force to quell the uprising, and the US responds by sending troops (2011).
There's a popular uprising in Burma against a corrupt dictatorial regime, a regime which uses brutal force to quell the uprising, and the US responds by imposing new sanctions (2007).
There's a popular uprising in China (Tibet) against a corrupt dictatorial regime, a regime which uses brutal force to quell the uprising, and the US responds by sending POTUS George W. Bush to attend the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics (2008).
Just trying to understand.
++++++
no, you understand fully sir - thanks for taking the time to perhaps nudge others towards that awareness, as always.
That is quite a narrative here. The popular uprising as you called it targeted Han shops.
Please tell what happened in the US when negroes targeted white people's shops. You should add this example to your list, shouldnt you?
The LHD class can carry around 1800 embarked personnel, wtf would they have only 400? This is routine, Ive done deployments on gators for 10 years.
They're running out of jarheads, the ones they have are either of 3 places, iraq, afghanistan or where most of them are, CONCUSSIONSTAN.
endless supply of video-game trained young unemployed ready 'n' waiting to play the real thing.
endless.

Will we ever learn, war is not good for us?
Interesting article...
Economic terrorism makes sense, if not, how would you explain doing the same things to get out of this mess as you did to get into this mess. They obviously have no idea what's gone wrong. They think you can just print more money and they'll break free... by putting us all in debt.
Maybe they've latched onto something big and juicy, the American Sheeple.

"Lord of the Flies" sez it all.
Isn't it overdue to flip the title back to Secretary of War?
