US-Iran Escalation: Iran Arrests 30 US Spies As It Builds Venezuelan Missile Base; America Sends A Third Aircraft Carrier To Persian Gulf
A week ago Die Welt reported that, in what may soon be a repeat of the Cuban missile crisis, US arch-enemy Iran, following a secret agreement signed on October 19, 2010 of strategic cooperation, Venezuela has allowed Iran to commence construction of a missile base on Venezuelan soil. The base, which will be located on the northernmost peninsula de Paraguana, 120 kilometers from the Colombian border, has recently been visited by a group of leading engineers from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard-owned construction company Khatam al-Anbia, is unofficially designed "to help develop an infrastructure to protect against air attack. Also planned is the construction of a command and control station, residential areas, watchtowers, and bunkers, in which warheads, missile fuel and other items can be stored. In cooperation with its Venezuelan partners, Iran also intends to build missile silos at a depth of about 61 ft." The project appears to be funded by Iran: "Information gathered by Die Welt also suggests that on their visit to
Venezuela, members of the Iranian delegation carried cash in their
luggage for the project’s initial funding. Western security circles
suspect that this involved tens of millions of dollars siphoned off from
Iran’s burgeoning oil profits." But most importantly is the discovery that while presumably defensive, Venezuela has told Iran, that it will be granted use of the base when completed: "According to the secret agreement between the two countries, Venezuela
pledged to Iran that it will be able to strike its enemies from the
joint missile base. Iran is attempting to boost its strategic threat to
the U.S., similar to the Soviet strategy in Cuba during the 1960s." And while skeptics may say that the base located about 2,400 miles from DC has no chance in striking the US capitol, the reality is that the Iranian long-range ballistic missiles Shahab 5 and 6, are rumored to be a three-stage system, which has a range of anywhere between 3,000 and 10,000 miles. So with missile base supplies most likely to come by sea (Venezuela is a few hundred miles away from Cuba), is a recreation of the 1961 Cuban missile crisis the next big political diversion?
Location of the base per Die Welt:
Which then begs the question: is America trying to antagonize Iran and to accelerate this "Cuban" denouement? According to the latest Naval update, not only are there now two aircraft carriers situated at the Straits of Hormuz, but a third one, CVN 77 G.H.W. Bush, is under way on a deployment to the 5th and 6th fleet AORs.
These developments come at a bad time for Ahmedinejad, whose power appears to be slipping following the deterioration of his relations with the religious leader Khamenei. Following a series of bizzare cabinet layoffs and forced transitions, none of which were to the liking of Iran's religious head, the president appointed himself the as country's oil minister, which yesterday was denounced by Iran's constitutional watchdog as illegal: a move that will put the country even more on edge as it likely now faces a crisis of confidence in its current rulers.
From Al Jazeera:
Iran's constitutional watchdog has deemed illegal Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's decision to take over the role of oil minister, after Iran's president removed the previous minister along with two others earlier in the week.
Iran's president was said to have assumed the role earlier this week as part of a government shakeup that reduced the number of ministries from 21 to 17.
The move put him in direct control of the government unit responsible for the extraction and export of the world's fifth largest oil and gas reserves.
It also meant Ahmadinejad would represent Iran at the next OPEC meeting, set for June 8 in Vienna.
According to Iranian law, a president has three months after removing a minister to introduce a new candidate to parliament.
During that period he can act as caretaker of the ministry or appoint someone else to do so.
And a move that is sure to tip the scales to an outright confrontation even more, is the just announced by Al Arabiya arrest of 30 suspected US spies: a move which will certainly lead to executions, and the complete collapse of any diplomatic ties between the two countries.
Iran has arrested 30 people it said were spying for the United States.
“Due to the massive intelligence and counter-intelligence work by Iranian agents, a complex espionage and sabotage network linked to America’s spy organization was uncovered and dismantled,” an intelligence ministry statement read out Saturday on the television said.
“Elite agents of the intelligence ministry in their confrontation with the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) elements were able to arrest 30 America-linked spies through numerous intelligence and counter-intelligence operations,” it added.
According to Iran’s semi-official Fars news agency, the suspects had passed information to US officials at embassies and consulates in third countries, including Malaysia, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates.
It said Iran had identified 42 US intelligence officers in such countries, saying: “They engage in collection of information regarding Iran’s nuclear, aerospace defense and bio-technology fields,” among other areas.
Spying in Iran usually carries the death penalty, often implemented without a full trial.
The announcement of the arrests comes two days after US President Barack Obama made a speech on the Middle East, reiterating Washington’s view that Tehran sponsors terrorism and is developing nuclear weapons, charges that Iran vehemently denies.
Topping it all is the fact that just yesterday Obama had a meeting with Israel PM Netanyahu (full transcript here) which sought to mitigate the previous announcement by the administration that Israel should get back to its 1967 borders, and which merely led to yet another failure for returning to peace talks, after Palestinians described fresh talks as pointless following Israel's dismissal of Barack Obama's call for a return to prewar frontiers.
Once again, just like in 2010, the geopolitical concern of the "Iranian Question" continues to be the fuse on the timebomb for the inevitable military conflict which, as Zero Hedge predicted in early 2010, is the only possible outcome to the current global stagflationary wave. At this point it is almost certain that a war will break out. The only question is when, in what format, and just which countries will participate in the conflict.

Some naive posters here still believe the office of the President controls US foreign policy or the use of the military.

Just hearsay, but he doesn't look very CinC-ish in the photo, more like a benchwarmer. He's not even at the table or striking an A-type personality pose.
It's obvious that the impending economic collapse will need an even larger distraction underscored by the pressing need to protect the very foundation of democracy...U.S./Iran round 1 soon to begin. Let's get ready to RUMBLE!!!! The August 145 SPX puts are cheap.
It's no big deal.
Unless they complete the base as originally reported and you live inside the red circle on the map in this article:
The Big Story of the Week: Welcome Back to 1962
The Persian Gulf is awash with exploding globes as we speak.
just buy Baja California from mexico - and move Israel. Literally.
2 neighbors that hate each other and always will = someone needs to f*ing MOVE.
Israel : ideal candidates for immigrants to the land of the free and home of the brave...
Why not move the Palestinians?
they will back into Palestine aka 1967 frontier. Obama has just proclaimed his desire that the UN affirms and the EU/Russia/China/India/Brazil/Mexico all approve. All these countries have said the state of Palestine must emerge. Only the US is dragging its feet since 1975.
Obama must deal with disappointment, then.
Did I mention that the majority totalitarian regime UN can bite me?
rodent, you have a president you hate, you have a Mrs President you hate...which is worse as she is a woman! WTF are you pretending to be a patriot when you despise the symbols of your own country?
Go take a shower, cool off and ...read poetry...Amen. I don't know what the hell you try and represent? A one man country? Give it a break!
Here's a poem for you:
HYMN BEFORE ACTION
The earth is full of anger,
The seas are dark with wrath,
The Nations in their harness
Go up against our path:
Ere yet we loose the legions --
Ere yet we draw the blade,
Jehovah of the Thunders,
Lord God of Battles, aid!
High lust and froward bearing,
Proud heart, rebellious brow --
Deaf ear and soul uncaring,
We seek Thy mercy now!
The sinner that forswore Thee,
The fool that passed Thee by,
Our times are known before Thee --
Lord, grant us strength to die!
For those who kneel beside us
At altars not Thine own,
Who lack the lights that guide us,
Lord, let their faith atone.
If wrong we did to call them,
By honour bound they came;
Let not Thy Wrath befall them,
But deal to us the blame.
From panic, pride, and terror,
Revenge that knows no rein,
Light haste and lawless error,
Protect us yet again.
Cloak Thou our undeserving,
Make firm the shuddering breath,
In silence and unswerving
To taste Thy lesser death!
Ah, Mary pierced with sorrow,
Remember, reach and save
The soul that comes to-morrow
Before the God that gave!
Since each was born of woman,
For each at utter need --
True comrade and true foeman --
Madonna, intercede!
E'en now their vanguard gathers,
E'en now we face the fray --
As Thou didst help our fathers,
Help Thou our host to-day!
Fulfilled of signs and wonders,
In life, in death made clear --
Jehovah of the Thunders,
Lord God of Battles, hear!
There is only one poet, and Kipling is his name.
r u Obama's ghost writer? He just said that...officially. It's not policy. But its on the table, put there by the Pr of the US of A...
It's so crazy it could almost work, but you'd have to move the Palestinians, not the Israelis.
The Israelis have the guns, and they have some old book they keep yammering about that says something about Jerusalem.
Jerusalem is not negotiable.
Who wrote that book? Oh ya the Jews.
This is brilliant and shows some critical thinking for a change. The Israelis could move to Texas which has similar climate but that makes too much sense. The Israleis would then want Arkansas, Oklahoma and New Mexico because we all know that the Israelis have simple asperations. They only want the land next to the land they already occupy!

Netanyahu was pretty awesome breaking his foot off in Obama's shiite lovin ass. It was like a pit bull mauling a yorkie with NPD. Heh.
That was some good TV.
The missiles may not be able to accurately strike Washington, D.C. (which I strongly doubt - you don't need to for a nuclear device) but there's about 4 million US Citizens in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands less than 500 miles away. Florida (a huge Jewish enclave, let's face it) is also less than 1500 miles away and so are almost 60% of our oil facilities on the East Coast. Let's also not forget the Panama Canal and that minor economic powerhouse called Brazil as well as the fact that Venezuela is right next to the future "Lithium Battery" triangle.
This will not be just an easy carrier or land based air set of strikes to eradicate. We're going to need boots on the ground and it's going to be bloody and messy, especially if Cuba reacts to an attack on its ally. Then we have to watch Russia's reaction.
Don't forget that Iran could use a nuclear Pakistani warhead if they don't use their own to complicate matters as well.

Big Badda BOOM!
...and then there's the prophetic false peace among all the nations and Israel, as it is written.
...and it does not last, ...then, a few years from now, your shits in the wind or it ain't, the time of sealing shall have past. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iNiUG33rSyY&feature=related
...may wanna consider waking up before Summer ends. http://bible.cc/matthew/24-32.htm
Take the air support and all the american army will be useless in a fight with china or russia even zimbabew if they are at par with equipment.
All wars america won not because they have the best soldiers but because they had the best AIR SUPPORT
If iran and venezuela have the new russian s-300 and the upgrade s-500 Air defence will be funny to watch for F's comming down like flies when spreyed with RAID LOLZ.
Can anyone tell me whats the percentage in the american army for the peoples that join just because they want the benefits of a college education ?
And dont give me the crap with patriotism to die for those banksters and also for the peoples of a certain culture realy is useless
PS did you guys noticed ELF towers poping up like mushrooms in your area ? Here in south florida they are like 2 3 / mile on any major highway
The US can still do air superiority. So, um...what is your point?
I really wish some of you nut jobs had done some time in the military. They are still citizen soldiers, not robots. Get a clue before you sound more clueless to people who have served.
I am unusual. Most are quite compassionate.
I have respect for our soldiers, not the military brass. Up until 1991 depleted uranium rounds were not used but since then it has been okay. The brass and our government don't give two shits about our brave men and women most of whom have been brainwashed into thinking their invasion of sovereign nations is helping us stay safe at home. They need to invade WDC if they want to make us secure! Homeland Security was established to be used against the American people. Wake up!
Tuco Benedicto Pacific Juan Maria Ramirez
Every time I try to wake up, I find that the opposition is made up of anti-American Arabs, Iranians, or commies.
If that is my choice of allies, I'll back TPTB.
They might be thieves, but the are not insane.
A western police state is preferable to living under Sharia. Really. If I have to choose the lessor of evils, I'll choose fascism over Sharia.
You have respect for our soldiers, when they illegally invade other countries, in an orgy of rape and theft and murder?
Iranians are just responding to the stupid threats initiated by Americans. Just like with Israel, together with Hizbollah they have created sort of M.A.D situation there with missiles.
They are trying to do the same with Americans. Iranians could probably soon take out a couple of major US cities. Stupid macho talk has sometimes real consequences in international politics.
Good plan. Those nukes are going to end them. You enter that arena, you'd best act like to definition of self-restraint. They don't do that well.
Start composing your death ballad for Iran. I won't be long.
How many countries have Persians attacked since 1700? How many Americans? I'd say in that game it is something like 0-25. So an American talking about "They don't do that well" is really laughable. Maybe you should learn some history...
BTW, taking out Iran with nukes would effectively take out Iraq and Saudi Arabia oil wells too. Then you would be riding a bicycle to pretty much everywhere and USA would collapse into Mad Max hellhole.
You have a point. I guess a decapitation strike would make the most sense.
P.S.
Y'all grossly overestimate the destructiveness of nuclear weapons. Some acquaintances, and I, once did a study on how many nukes it would take to vaporize everything in Paris down to melting every last train rail, and we concluded it would take nearly 300 warheads.
Unfrickin believable. Does anyone actually think this shit is true????? Come-on. Just more lies. Like all the other fucking lies this government throws at us. How many countries are we in now? How many people do we keep on murdering EVERY FUCKING DAY! I have an idea. KTB, kill the bankers......it's that simple. With them gone ALL of this bullshit stops. Lapping this crap up just prolongs the nightmare that we're all in.
Iran shares a border with both Iraq and Afghanistan. Seems like an easy move to consolidate forces somewhere near Tehran.
Yes, hang the banksters and the corporate facsists!!!!!!!
"Make the rope tight because it has to hold the weight of a pig!"
Tuco Benedicto Pacifico Juan Maria Ramirez
:)
But pigs taste better than bankers!
These are Persian people and they have about 20 times longer history than Americans. So if you start messing around with that kind of culture, they will start their game too with the cards they have been dealt. Those cards might not be worth much but they will play them cleverly.
Iran is not a new Nazi Germany but neither Iran is a helpless lapdog. Already former Mossad boss in Israel has said attack against Iran would be stupid and those nuclear plants cannot be taken out without major nuclear attack.
I doubt they will never initiate an attack but try to position themselves so that an attack would be too costly to the enemy.
Yeah, the Nazi sympathizer Iran has been laying back. Right. Hie thee, 12th Imam, I will bring thee force says lil' Mac Mood.
Yep, the Persians had 2000 year head start and are still nukeless. 7th Century Sharia medievalism and supremacist barbarism set them back. They're still stuck there.
But they're worse than the Nazi's. They practically invented slavery and, under Sharia, it's their duty. Islamism is a totalitarian government system masquerading as a religion.
Chavez is also hosting Russian warships in Venezuela along with Cubans fighters. Chavez has also known to host American marxist/anarchists to support them to return to America as armed guerrilla fighters to infiltrate against their own country.
Cuban special forces are known to have come through the Yucatan to slip into America through our southern borders. The former governor of the Yucatan is married to one of Castro's relatives. He lost his job (partly) after it was revealed about the Cubans.
And Obama refuses to seal the Southern border and take it seriously. And now he's throwing Israel under the bus for the MB. Makes you go Hmmmm....
WAR= OIL
OIL=WAR
hence we go to war for Oil. What a world we live in.
Fucking war and oil bitchezzzz only thing the Govt and Banksters care about.
I remember the missle crisis. I remember John Kennedy, Obama is no John Kennedy. He's not even Kennedy's ass wipe. We are so screwed.
maybe you deserve it and your death wish is now looking at you...The US is now like Hitler...at war with the rest of the world...economically, energy wise, financially but hopefully not militarily. They can't afford another war. Obama has to sound the retreat. Only saudi remains strategic. And it is now a co-responsibility with China, India and Japan. As Russia is with EU and China for its RM. We are now firmly in multilateral governance. Forget military options. 'Cos it lose-lose. And every body knows it. Period.
USA is a dying Empire and sometimes dying Empires lash out. Hopefully they lash in rather than out. Some kind of real SHTF is coming for sure.
Obama retreat? He is bombing Libya and trying to start a war with Pakistan.
We used to have allies.
And then Obama came.
And now we wait for a response from the BRICs. Their level of approbation should be an accurate measure of the waning US/USD influence in the real world.
Suicide bomber targeting NATO medical trainers infiltrated Kabul's main military hospital on Saturday and blew himself up in a tent full of Afghan medical students eating lunch, killing six and wounding 23.
Proxy wars will never end. All are the problem and solution. China has a big issue with NC "death camps" so move the business as decision into Pak. USSR austerity program working just fine to date. EU and any other Demo or Theo better listen up since human life has never been or is the issue. Stability is ethics. All Country's have some good people until they do not need or want truth. Indeed follow the money and the trenches with bodies.
"Iran Arrests 30 US Spies As It Builds Venezuelan Missile Base;"
So, they were thinking about closing Guantanamo?
Yes, close our torture chambers. Is this America or Red China!
Tuco Benedicto Pacifico Juan Maria Ramirez
War with Iran is not happening anytime soon. It would mena high oil prices and a middle east in much more chaos. No one in the Pentagon and military(with the exception of the airforce they love to show off) want war with Iran because it would be a disaster for us and israel. Here is what a war with Iran would look like.
A war between Israel and Iran would go down like this. Israel would attack Iran's nuclear centers successfully but they would face reprisals. Iran,Hamas, and Hezbollah would fire missiles at Israel. Israel's David Sting, and Iron Dome systems would be overwhelmed. the Israeli air force would have to retreat from the north and go south because hezbollah has M-600 missiles,Syria,Iran would fire a multitude of missiles at Israel. Israel would then plan a ground invasion of Gaza and southern Lebanon. Israel at this time will do a bombing devastating blitz of Gaza,Syria, and Lebanon. Syria is getting anti ship[ missiles from Russia which with no doubt be sent to Hezbollah. So Hezbollah would sink at least one Israeli ship like last time. The air war over Lebanon will be very different. with upwards of 40,000 Katyusha rockets stockpiled, Hezbollah still retains the terror option. If Hezbollah’s plentiful M600s were fired in high-volume volleys, the Arrow system could be overwhelmed. If the IRGC [Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps] launched Iranian high-value Shahab-3Bs and variants timed with Hezbollah’s M600s, the Islamic republic could deal telling blows to strategic targets…. Hezbollah is said to be flush with the Russian-made SA-7 “Grail”, the SA-14 “Gremlin” and the SA-18 “Grouse."
These shoulder-fired SAMs are a point defense for covering mobile missile launchers like the M600 when exposed during the firing and retirement cycle. Also in the bargain came the SA-8 “Gecko”, a mobile launcher with a range of about 16 kilometers and a height of 12,000 meters. Mix these new capabilities with Syria’s new radar system supplied by Tehran… For Israel, the cost of setting back Iran’s nuclear program a few years before dealing decisively with Hezbollah and Syria is now at an all-time high
If Israel goes to invade southern Lebanon they will fall into a trap. The Lebanese military made a clear a couple of months ago that if Israel invades Lebanon that they will fight along side Hezbollah. So Israel will face a bloody guerilla campaign. In Gaza it will be an urban warfare nightmare.
Iranian special forces and Iraqi Shiite militias will start cutting the long US supply line alone Route Tampa from Kuwait City. Then the Shiites on southern Iraq will start a campaign on attacking the reaming 50,000 US troops. Iranian irregulars would cross the border to give support and man power for the Shiite militia. Shiites in the Iraqi army and police will defect to the side of the militias and start killing US troops. The troops will be able to hold their own but we would be forced to retreat from Iraq. The reason because at this time the Iraqi govt would collapse and all gains that was made from the surge will be un done for good. We could possibly see at least 100-180 US troops being killed when the Shiites cut the supply line temporarily(because our air support will stop the blockage) and start conducting guerrilla attacks on them. On Afghanistan we could see Iran reluctantly giving the Taliban SAMs. That would make the war effort harder to win.
Iran has formidable asymmetrical retaliatory capabilities. For example, all of these are vulnerable to Iranian sabotage or hundreds of Iranian missiles on the eastern side of the Gulf: from the narrow Straits of Hormuz, which still handles 25 percent of the world’s oil traffic; to Bahrain, the U.S. Fifth Fleet’s headquarters where the population is two-thirds Shiite and the royal family is Sunni; to Dubai, where about 400,000 Iranians live, including many who are “sleeper agents” or favorable to Tehran; to Qatar, now the world’s richest country with per-capita income at $78,000, which supplies the United States with the world’s longest runway and sub-headquarters for CENTCOM, and whose LNG facilities are within short missile range of Iran’s coastal batteries; to Saudi Arabia’s Ras Tanura, the world’s largest oil terminal, and Abqaiq, nerve center of Saudi’s eastern oil field.
So an attack against Iran would be disastrous in multiple levels. Yes conventionally they are a paper tiger, but their strength is in asymmetrical warfare. they will try to destabilizes the region and create as much casualties on us and Israel. Israel will be bogged down in Lebanon fighting a combined Hezbollah and Lebanese military guerrilla force. We would be forced to either retreat from an Iraq descending into chaos or stand and fight until reinforcements come but face very high casualties in which the America citizen would not stomach since the Iraq war is very unpopular. Pakistan could collapse with violent Islamic demonstrations. And the war in Afghanistan gets worse with the Taliban getting SAM missiles to hinder the war effort. And the middle east more destabilized and dangerous then before. Oil would skyrocket and hurt the already collapsing global economy. Any one with a modicum knowledge in economics and military strategy and tactics know this would be a disaster and blow up Israel and our face literally.
Iran's conventional military is a piece of shit and junk and we could crush it in less than a month but it has proxies and cells to spread chaos and bedlam in the middle east and cause us headaches. We will not bomb Iran unless Gingrich or Palin are elected.Even Bush knew war with Iran would be bad because our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan would suffer the brunt heavily.
Our Nobel Peace Price winning President seems to be determined to go to all-out war with someone. There isn't a nation on earth the U.S. isn't challenging. Most of the rest of the world just politely backs down knowing full well we're on the way to the dustbin of history. So, the question is why is the Prez doing this? The only answer can be to delegate to himself war powers and dictatorial control. Stay tuned.
If an Iranian nuke ballistic missle took out WDC up to 14 honest people would be killed. Devastating! If the U. S. can have forces in 175 countries how come Iran can't have forces in two?! Take a deep breath and please recite all the sovereign nations that Iran has invaded in its history. Thank you.

Are not African American males notorious for being primitive and violent? It's an underlying theme in all that gangsta rap he listens to. He does endorse the rappers and their messages by coddling them during their visits to The White House.
Fistbumps, he pays tribute to his cultures violent heritage.
It's disgraceful.

Hadn't thought of it that way - since he's half white and hates capitalism my guess is that he's just a died in the wool socialist.
The U.S. better get with the program and have the Chinese build us some more aircraft carriers. While at it, have them throw in some cheap fighter jets like they just sold the Paki's.
When the military machine becomes unsubstainable, we go down just like the USSR.
It is very close now. We are the hollow man.
It is very close now. We are the hollow man.
Terrorist countries like Iran are compulsive liars - they also continually over-exagerrate. Just like a criminal that gets caught and then starts to confess the "truth" - they usually dial down the "bad" by about 1/2 hoping you won't think so badly of them... and just like someone with delusions of grandeur, they embellish to no end.
Somewhere in there is the real truth, the real facts.
Most likely, they ARE working on some relationship with Venezuela. Most likely their missiles CAN'T go 10K miles. They are so enamoured with thier own delusions that they probably are trying to build a missile bas on Ven. Most likely, their missiles can go 5K miles and we better damn well be concerned. Countries like Iran and other terrorist organizations also are emboldened when we host liberal presidents. Pres. Obabma is making a complete fool of himself in regards to foreign policy right now. 1967 borders? Pahleeeze. What a child - it's embarrasing... and it's a green light to people like Achmed-in-a-dinner-jacket.
Excuse me Zymurguy. Is that an Israeli name by any chance?? I only ask because you display such a potent need to bomb, bomb Iran.
dood you all know somewthing is wrong but cant put your finger on it.
let me spell it out for you,hes black.
no way TPTB let a black guy in teleprompter job, unless hes bred on white bread.

Seriously, do the neocons hijack ZH on the weekeneds?
Sounds like to me that the BAD GUYS (NWO Boys) are just pulling another "Black Buzzard" out of the cage to snooker everyone, as in shell game, take your eyes off the ball, and/or smoke and mirrors, while they commit some more thievery. I really don't think the average Venezuelan really wants to be vaporized. Otherwise, time to get Seal Team Six warmed up again and OBL presidente Chavez's ass and steal his petrol. Don't ya just love free trade:)
Let's be realistic. Iran is not really an aggresive state even against Israel but if it came under attack by The United States Of Israel it would defend itself and the existence of the homeland would be over in a matter of days. All this manouvering ships and weapons talk is just a big sham designed to keep people scared and compliant. Don't be concerend but of course be aware so you can protect yourself financially against idiot chicken hawks who take this news seriously.
Is Venezuela the 52nd or the 53rd state? I always get it mixed up with the UK.
I predicted it in 2007. Actually earlier, but that's when I put it up.

Sounds like the CIA fucked up. You just can't get the staff these days.
At this point, cooler heads should prevail in Iran. China, Russia, and Pakistan will talk Iran down as needed. Russia and China will make clear to the U.S. that war with Iran will not be simply put to a vote in the UN; there will be repercussions. Russia and China to U.S. "We take any U.S. DoW on Iran as a major threat to geostrategic stability. We view an attack on Iran as nothing short of an American attempt to control the world's oil. This will result in global war." The U.S. will make some noise and back down for now as mutual defense pacts are signed and the sides are drawn for what could be the final show. With the global financial system on a knife's edge, all the horrible past of the twentieth century seem to be very present.
Don't they have FB and Twitter in Caracas too ?
Russia is the wild card, as she always has been between East and West. Russia could turn on a dime and tip the balance of power in favor of the West and the U.S. For the moment, however, Russia is in the Sino-Persian camp.

In fairness, we been hearing about a US-Iran war since 2006 and the Oil Bourse. Since then it seems like the Iranians have stood strong and proved that the US was just bluffing. America ain't gonna even try attack Iran because if they did Russia and China would be forced to back Iran up.
Add into the Mix, huge spikes in Oil from the announcement of war (and bigger spikes after Iran retaliates by hitting the Saudi oil fields), a Mahdi Army takeover of Iraq, Hezbollah and Hamas launching counter-strikes on Israel and you looking at a war zone from Israel across Syria Iraq Iran Afghanistan and Pakistan with Russia and China probably sneaking over some Feng Dong missiles to take out those Aircraft Carriers (in short a war the US cannot hope to win).
The Chinese response would be more substantial than smuggling weapons I would suspect. China and perhaps Russia cannot possible sit still should the U.S. DoW another major oil-producing state. They will conclude, much as the allies did in the wake of yet another German demand for territory in Poland, that appeasement only leads to ever greater demands.
Iran's constitutional "watchdog". That is hilarious. Thanks, I needed a good laugh today.
All smoke...no fire. Hey, listen, we probably have 300 millile bases around Iran if they do anything they will be wiped out. Add in the massive WMD's that Israel has and it's a none-starter imo. Nothing to see here...move along.
Note to Pentagon: Anyone getting any sort of feeling there that Oil, physical oil, is this countries worst enemy ? Or does everyone know it, but no one has the balls to do anything about it ? Oh, you want war. Oh, I see. That's right, if no war then less perks, pensions, power, retirement. Ok, I'll just STFU.
mmm.
Man came minutes from the end during the Cuban missile crisis. Now the Russians wouldn't dream of interfering in this global show - a drunk, blind, bankrupt ogre gets attacked by dozens of midgets and grows more and more tired as he funds his own enemy's prowess (oil).
Nope, I'd let that one just play out and watch it on TV even.
