US Military Releases Official Investigation Results Relating To Wikileaks Iraq Massacre Video
The US Military issues its official retort to the Wikileaks video. Here are the official US Army recommendations based on that episode:
I ratify the appointment of the investigating officer, MAJ [Blanked out]
The recommendation that:
-(10a) Members of the press be encouraged or required to wear identifying vests or distinctive body armor within the MND-B AOR is (approved) (disapproved) (remanded to the BCT Cdr).
-(10b) Coalition Forces be notified when members of the press are operating in their AORs is (approved) (disapproved) (remanded to the BCT Cdr).
-(10c) Condolence payments be made to families of the two children wounded in this engagement is (approved) (disapproved) (remanded to the BCT Cdr).
I remand the matter to the 2/2ID Cdr for appropriate action.

They moved here for freedom from the frightening, unfathomable barbarism they saw and lived there. Before I became a doctor, I had an Iranian pharmacist mentor who was in the Shah's army. He told me about the horrific things that went on there.
As a physician, I protect life in every way possible.
When I see a religion that beckons you to beat and kill the wife you swore to love, to maim and kill the child that loved you back and even yourself in the name of religion? I don't see religion. I see pure evil, hatred and a monstrosity that no God of any religion would condone.

i can respect your oath, as i choose to believe it is one of the bedrocks of human civilization.
however, standing against callous disregard for human life (for whatever reason) on one side does not justify justifying the callous disregard for human life on the other. if one chooses to value, protect & respect life, then one should do so regardless of which side one is on, no?

Would you be proud to show this to your family during Thanksgiving gathering? Birthday? Could you show your mom, and still be proud of yourself?
Combat is one thing. Shooting an unarmed, injured person is completely different.
CR, you can bet your ass I would be proud to show this to my family. Surgically eliminating risks so other families' loved ones get home safely to their own Thanksgiving dinner is something to be proud of.
The spry and twisted comments by the soldiers are proof that war ain't pretty. No one should be allowed to comment until they have been there and been shot at.

I am so sorry you had to watch your children die. That has got to be the most gut-wrenching experience I could imagine. Anyway, I just wanted to say that.
I remember when I graduated from boot camp as a newly minted 18 year old Marine - my dad, who was a career military soldier - both enlisted and battle field commishioned officer and served in Korea and Vietnam - came out to my graduation ceramony. On the plane ride home - I was talking to him and made the statement -- IF I were sitting out on an ambuch, and I saw an enemy walking down the trail at night - and I knew he had a family, mother, father, brothers, sisters, children -- and I KNEW I could blow his head off, or let him go and neither one of us would get hurt - I didn't think I could shoot him. My dad looked at me and said - son - when you are in combat and you have seen a lot of your buddies who you love like brothers get their killed - you would have no problem shooting the guy - because if you didn't , the next night he might see you and not have the same feelings. Thank God I NEVER Had To Find Out!
That said - this guy was an officer - he should have known better - especially when the van pulled up to try to help the wounded. That is not killing because you feel threatened - it is killing because you are sick and enjoy it. You can tell that by the way these people laughed about running over a dead body - or the comment - common dude - pick up a weapon! The people who were involved in this have no excuse IMO -- they deserve to rot in hell. The real problem is - that shit probably happens every day -- it is a game. Thius is not a true war - we are there on false lies, using weapons that are vastly superior and it is more like shooting fish in a barrel. The day will come however when the shoe will be on the other foot - whether it be from Earthlings or Aliens - and when it does - I hope to GOD they pay this country back for all it has done.

Well - I can say this - had someone in my unit done something like that - they probably would have gotten shot - SERIOUSLY. I do not think this asshiole is representative of Marines in general - he is just an asshole - you find them everywhere.

Junking is either with merit, or without, but it is subjective, yes. However, there is such things as TRUTH. Truth is real; get to know it (not you boiow, I agree with your comment, I am being rhetorical to those who junk with ignorance).

A lot of people here talk about enjoyment in that video.
I'm naive and I know it but for some reason I would like to put that laughter down as a way to relief tension and at the same time express horror about what just happened.We cannot see their eyes and in my ear that "laughter" sounds nervous and a little held back.
How many of you have smiled when your eyes are almost glassed over and your frightened. If I remember correctly smile is a way to express fear in other primates and laughter also expresses horror and disgust when somethings are too terrible to even think about then people normally "laugh".
Also somethings that you do you "can only laugh about because in your mind you're screaming". I have not gained as much will power or harnessed it as well as CD so this is the way I would act as that pilot/gunner.
The case with the van is more difficult but if I were there and couldn't see the copter (.5-1m away somewhere as someone pointed out) I would drive there to help a wounded person because the situation "seems to be" over and I can do what I can to help my fellow man. And then I would have been "foolish and dead" as the argument goes and as happened.
