USPS Stops Accepting Mail To Canada
But before people scream bloody murder that the USPS finally went bankrupt (3 months ahead of schedule), the blame for this one actually lies with socialist Canada, where the Canadian Union of Postal Workers is continuing its strike, making deliveries of all sorts of unmarked boxes to incognito recipients quite problematic. As a result, "the U.S. Postal Service will suspend accepting mail destined to Canada -- effective Saturday, June 18, 2011, 11:59 p.m. CDT -- with the exception of Global Express Guaranteed shipments." Hopefully Americans trying to reach friends and neighbors in the far more solvent northern neighbor will be able to make do with email attachments for the indefinite future. "As a convenience to our customers and to minimize service disruptions, we arranged to accept mail destined for Canada as long as possible," said Giselle Valera, vice president, Global Business. "We will continue to closely monitor the strike situation, and once Canada Post resumes operations, the U.S. Postal Service will again begin accepting mail for Canada. We also will then resume processing any Canadian-destined mail currently held in our network." Next up: outbound mail to Europe halted indefinitely (except for shipments of secret Fed-originating cash of course), where we are stunned that the local socialist union of postmen still believe in showing up to work daily.

continue to send letters and packages via the Postal Service's Global
Express Guaranteed (GXG) service. GXG is a premium, date-certain

delivery by FedEx Express. GXG is available online at www.usps.com and at thousands of participating retail locations throughout the United States.

Had a package to Canada accepted into USPS the day before the strike started. Now it sits there on the tracking page.

I'm in Canada, I ordered 2 books online, got free shipping and they came by courier on time. The thing with Canada Post, I believe is that they have a government mandated monopoly on all letter mail. Since I don't receive much in the way of letter mail, having gone paperless on all bills (at least the ones I'm going to pay), The Canada Post strike has no effect on my day to day business.

Canada is a basketcase and ready to blow. I don't know why everyone thinks Canada is a flight to safety when we carry one of the highest household debts in the world. More then America! We didn't avoid anything and made it even worse since 2008—especially in the housing market where the CMHC now has a near 1 trillion dollars in housing liablities, while its total equity is only 10 billion. If the housing market deflates by even 5%, Canada Action Plan 2.0 will commence. Our socialist Harper government (now with a majority) is ramming spending cuts through parliament trying to front-run the collapse (as if it will do much). Canada is now two years behind America to a tee— lead the way to hell America, we got your back!

Yeah, Canada is in worse shape than people realize. Take for example the North American Free Trade Agreement. It was enacted to allow the United States to pilage Canada's oil supplies and gain cheap labor from Mexico. There is a tremendous amount of raw material being exported from Canada to supply the U.S. With the United States going down it will most assuradly bring down Canada while requiring that Canada only exports oil to the U.S.

The Chinese are scouring Canada making the buys of oil and mineral deposits. You wouldn't believe how knowledgeable they are of every little mineral drill hole. Canada is free to sell its oil to whoever. The reason TransCanada will get their Keystone approval for the pipeline to Oklahoma is to delay the pipeline across British Columbia that can only supply the Chinese and Japanese. If the USA goes down, Ontario and eastern Canada goes down, but Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, and the Yukon will do very nicely as their own country, exporting to Asia.

I fully support the Canadian postal workers. My Amazon.ca order has been sent by UPS and they slpit it so that's two UPS deliveries for zero cost to me. I feel like one of those Americans getting a free powered wheelchair. Absolutely no cost to me.

Don't ever ask the USPS for a refund on 'guaranteed' Express Mail packages that's Return To Sender. You'll get a reply like I did: "I ain't gonna give you your money". Show any restistance to such rebuke and you'll receive a call from the postal inspector by morning.
