"Operation Payback" Crashes VISA Website In Under One Minute As It Seeks Revenge From Second Credit Card Processor

Tyler Durden's picture

After taking out MasterCard.com earlier, the hacker organization Anonymous Operation, via its WikiLeaks supporting Operation Payback has just launched its attack on visa.com. And, lo and behold, Visa.com is now down.

As of this posting, the operation has succeeded in under one minute: www.visa.com is down.

For those who haven't figure it out yet - mess with hackers at you own peril.

Also, didn't the New York Fed refuse Assange discount window access or something? This New York Fed: www.newyorkfed.org

WikiLeaks is supporting freedom of speech and exposing US government corruption. I consider that pro-American. I think you suck balls.

For those of you who think that it is impossible to shut down the entire internet, I was told that it was very easy.  Last night after a couple of beers, I ran into this big dude wearing a black trench coat, and he had on these silly looking clip-on sunglasses.  I thought he looked like Lawrence Fishburn, but when I asked he just glared at me.  Anyway, he was explainin' this whole interweb thing to me, and said that the way they shut it down last time was to invite Neo-Anon to the chamber of the Architect (Al Gore).  There, the "Architect" prattled on about global warming and carbon credits until Neo-Anon lost his mind and the web crashed.  And some bitch got shot.  That also pissed off the Neo-Anon guy.  Was it Hillary?

Have you ever noticed the cord attached to the headrest of your recliner?  I never did before those blue beers last night either.  In fact, I never knew I had a socket in the back of my head!  Note to self->Must spend more time with the shampoo.

my favorite handles for ZHer's are "ripped chunk" and "liberal sodomy" aka barney frank.

The system appears beyond repair and wikileaks is getting the whole process closer to the endgame.  Unfortunately, it will take the "JOKER" to clean up the trash in DC.  Maybe Oprah will run for President.

All this talk about internet shutdown has got me thinking...

Does ZH provide any archived content for public download? Would be a real shame to wake up one morning and see the project and all the content gone or otherwise inacessible.

Anyone got any good links to creating alternate internets (alternets), ideally wireless, encrypted, trust based and distributed?

I wonder if any of those hackers are smart/ballsy enough to hack into some of the High Frequency Trading computers and MEGA DUMP some of the companies they are targeting?  Seems far fetched but who knows, those guys seem to get into everything people say is impossible to hack...

Who benefits from this -- should we all be looking at Akamai with the thought that every web server in America needs to be hosted and broadly distributed using companies like AKAM?

Ironically, these cyber-attacks would have been cheered by the "real" Tyler Durden (the fictional protagonist of "Fight Club").

However, the approach already taken by this website is probably far more effective.  {i.e.  publically exposing the "bad behavior" within our financial system and substantiating it with data}.

I think we can bet on the following:

1. Security related IT stocks will take off

2. Encryption related security companies will take off

3. New protection and security mandates from the gov't

Good to be an IT vendor

I am guessing that if this is the start of an ongoing hacker offensive, then there is likely to some serious "recruiting" drives to augment and replenish the botnet ranks.

This is cyber terrorism pure and simple. I can't defend this type of action ... no matter what the circumstance. For the US Administration this has become a no win situation. It makes the US look weak and the chaos that we are seeing right now is as a result of an ineffective Justice Department. No matter what you think of president Bush. This would have been addressed far earlier and it would have been stopped point blank. The current administration is at least six months late and it makes you wonder if they really wanted to stop it.

That is why the networks covered it for several days.  They are obviously using this for some other motive, like shuting the Internet down.

And a new breed of terrorist is born, and a new war on terror.
