A Visual Case Study In HFT Accumulation Perfection

Tyler Durden's picture

Presenting the chart of AAPL: the stock, which has surged from $240 to $292 in less than a month, has done so without violating the 2 Std Dev upward channel once! In other words, nobody but programs which are designed to trade within the traditional technical upward channel of +/- 2 Std Devs are doing the trading in AAPL. And now that your confidence in a rational, non-binary market has returned, please buy, buy, buy. And pray none of these machines has a short circuit, and/or nobody decides to use the Stuxnet virus on the NYSE.

As for those carbon based lifeforms who are looking at this chart and are concerned by the increasing parabolic blowoff, which soon mean the stock will have to travel backward in time to rise as fast, one may say they have a good reason to be quite terrified.

the key to the market is an apple

Anybody want to hazard a guess how much longer this is going to keep going on? My best guess is it could stop anytime between now and Dec, probably with a spectacular down day.   Unless they want to collapse the dollar now, they have to stop right?  Don't they want to drag the collapse out another year or two?

lechmm's picture

Won't stop as long as Ben is at the printing press.

SMG's picture

Yes, but from what I've been able to tell, the printing press doesn't  just have an on-off control.  Seems more like LO-MED-HI-Zimbabwe control. Just wonder if they don't set it to ZIM until end of 2011 to 2012.

Also might the republicans winning in Nov result in a dial back to MED or LOW?

lechmm's picture

Are you suggesting there is a difference between the parties?

SMG's picture

No I know they are controlled behind the scenes by the eyeball triangle cult.   Neither party is saying get rid of the fed, or stopping suicide trade practices, or illegal immigration.

I'm saying that in the short term, if the Reps do what they say in the "Contract to America"  which is cut spending.  That should maybe dial the printing press back to MED or LOW, and crush equities and commidities.  Which may be the next phase in the plan before all out hyperinflation. (At least this is my current theory)

lechmm's picture

There is no one good solution, I believe, only solutions that will hurt more or less. America is in the economical experimental zone... as it frequently had been in the past. Hopefully it will come out of all this stronger. But it will take time. Lots of time. Years and years, IMHO.

Keri at Bankster Report's picture

Unless, of course, the Republocrats win and all the sudden we're invading Iran.  The Rep's (with a few expections) don't seem to extend any measure of fiscal responsibility to so-called "defense" (read: offense) spending or international war-making.  Don't forget to add "ending the empire" to your list of things that neither party is advocating.

And by the way--its the eye-ball pyramid cult, not eye-ball triangle cult! We have an obligation to our Freemasonic founding fathers not to get our symbols mixed up, don't you know.  Plus, Roosevelt, Wallace, and that creepy Russian dude, Roerich, were very careful to make sure our worthless FR notes were decorated with the appropriate Luciferian occult symbols, and it is our patriotic duty not to question the notes, our government, or the master eye-ball pyramid cult.

They became politicians.  Only now they are living off of the fat of our backs, rather than the fat of the land.

Honestly, this or something similar it is the future, we're going to have to learn to work with it. (bitchez)

lechmm's picture

Agree. Given the state of the market, there are three alternatives, as I see it:

1) stay on the sidelines - invest in stuff giving 1-2% per annum

2) go with the flow (the FED)

3) be a contrarian and short the market taking into account the doomsday scenario.

Until now, I have 80% of my capital in alternative #1, and 20% in alternative #3 (according to the scenarios described by ZH and other well-intended gurus).

Well, the contrarian approach is hurting me terribly and I realize I won't succeed fighting the FED. (Pls don't comment, I know I was stupid. As an excuse I will say I did not have time to devote to the issue). So, am thinking to switch over to #2, in other words "if you can't fight them, join them. But will give it still 2 weeks, hoping to recoup somewhat in early October. Teppler's interview and Damien Cleusix' Q3 outlook, posted yesterday, made the decision for me. Thanks for those, Tyler.

You forgot #4

buy as much silver and gold before the reset - if there is armageddon and WWIII then 1-4 don't matter anyway

lechmm's picture

Yes, you are right. I do trade gold miner stocks. I just sold my holdings (with a profit). Awaiting the trend to cool off a bit. (Am not a day trader.) But I will devote only a small portion of my capital to gold-related holdings. BTW, I think Coke is better than Gold.

Before WWIII, I think there will be an American Revolution.

Are they accepting food stamps at the apple store? Oh its just dumb money and machines pumping this.

I like apple, good company, but this is insane for a months move, very scary after adobe goes from year high to year low in one week.

UninterestedObserver's picture

Come on - I am SURE AAPL deserves to be the 2nd largest company in the world as determined by market cap. Market probably won't crash until it is solidly #1

AAPL??

That's nothing.

Look at AMZN, who warned big last July and the stock is up nearly 60% since then.

return hyperinflation;

FunkyMonkeyBoy's picture

That C won't compile dude.

If you're indexing in to that array 'x' you'll need to put a value into [].

Also, can't see when bernanke_pump ever gets set to false? So the loop won't ever break out. Does this mean we never return hyperinflation? Maybe that's the point!!

Let's have some Hungarian notation next time please ;-)

Xedus129's picture

Java, not C! or C# if you want, and yeah infinite loop was a joke, but I did misplace that last bracket.

Xedus129's picture

I mostly do VHDL and Assembly anyways, Java was just a side hobby.

No, no hungarian notation; let the 80s structured-programming fetishes die.
